In a quite stark bit of pre-E3 willy-waving, Microsoft’s product director Aaron Greenberg has pointed out that total sales of Halo 3 aren’t simply better than those of Sony’s leading games – it beats the lot of them combined.
Speaking via Twitter, Greenberg stated:
“Just in from research team (NPD): Halo 3 has outsold Resistance 1 + 2, Uncharted 1+2, Killzone 2 and God of War III COMBINED....wow”
Though the likes of Resistance: Fall of Man and Uncharted debuted when the PS3’s install base was very low, recent hits such as Killzone 2 and God of War III have performed strongly at retail – though not to the same extent of big hitters such as Halo, Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty.

In a typically flamboyant press release, Valve has confirmed that Portal 2 will no longer be released later this year and is now targeting a 2011 arrival.
The developer and publisher also confirmed that its much-discussed E3 surprise is about Portal 2 and not, as many had hoped, about a new instalment in the Half-Life series.
It’s worth a read, so here's the announcement in its entirety:
Aperture Science, doing business as Aperture Laboratories LLC, in partnership with Valve today announced the successful completion of an ethics-review-panel-supervised release date restructuring process. Portal 2, the sequel to the ground-breaking title that earned over 30 Game of the Year awards despite missing its original ship date, is now targeted for a 2011 release.
Representatives from both companies acknowledged that public safety concerns factored into the decision. They went on to say that even though Portal 2 will arrive slightly later than planned, all life on earth won't instantaneously stop as every molecule in your body explodes at the speed of light, which is what would happen should a rip ever appear in the fabric of Valve Time.
“Also, the game will be even better,” they added, missing an historic opportunity to create the first product delay press release to mention that a product is being delayed to make it worse.

Canadian studio Beenox is developing Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions with two key pressures in mind; Bobby Kotick and Batman.
Earlier in the year, Activision CEO Kotick suggested that recent Spider-Man games had “sucked” – a comment that has likely heightened expectation for the company to deliver from its next spin of the wheel.
However, the associate producer on the next Spider-Man title – Kevin Umbricht – believes the main pressure to raise the bar has come from London studio Rocksteady, developers of the breakthrough title Batman Arkham Asylum.
“Arkham is a fantastic game,” he told Develop, “and it did raise the bar of comic-book games, it elevates the genre and it steps your game up.
“[Developers Rocksteady showed] that you can make a hardcore comic-based game that appeals to the masses. That was very intriguing, as it’s usually a movie licence that brings comics to the masses.
“So our focus is to stay really true to the source material. Every time a triple-A title comes out, and redefines the genre, it will affect your decision making.”
Umbricht was confident, however, that Activision was up to the task, and conveyed Beenox’s relief in not being tied to any upcoming Spider-Man movie.
“There are definitely challenges with movie based titles,” he said, “especially in terms of time-frames, and the game’s content is usually limited to whatever comes out in that movie as well. So you have two hours of plot to play with.
“With Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions we can pull from 50 years of comics, thousands of storylines and thousands of characters – we can craft the story that we want to, so there’s definitely more freedom.”

The latest issue of UK lads mag Zoo has revealed details of FIFA 11.
According to the mag, new systems include Pro Passing, which makes it harder to perform ping-pong exchanges up to the halfway line, and a new emphasis on players' individual attributes.
These should be more evident during regular play all over the pitch, rather than just in obvious areas like speed and acceleration, and new body types will make it easier to distinguish players at a distance.
Other new tricks include swerve passes, driven and backspin lofted through balls, and refined goalkeepers.
It will also be possible to customise your team's chants and intro music.
Look out for a massive FIFA 11 "blowout" tomorrow on Eurogamer based on our experience with the game, which should be out this autumn, and our discussions with developer EA Canada.

At this point, off-the-shelf Arduino microcontrollers aren't anything special, and honestly, neither is an Xbox 360 gamepad that manipulates them over USB. What is special, however, is the dedication that turned this unassuming R/C car into a reality-blurring 3D racing videogame. Like any Xbox 360 racer worth its salt, the triggers make this car stop and go, the left analog stick aims the front wheels, and the right stick offers full camera control. Though the wireless camera's a little wonky and the Bluetooth modem's range is limited, a video demonstration proves it capable of canine annoyance from an adjacent room. Think of the potential with a proper sidewalk racetrack... and some turtle shells.

Rockstar Games may be celebrating the success of Red Dead Redemption but its next sequel, Max Payne 3, will not be released before October 31st, parent Take-Two has confirmed tonight.
The third game in Rockstar's series will now debut as part of the publisher's 2011 financial year - it was originally expected to have arrived sometime this year.
Take-Two didn't confirm timings for the game, so it could still launch in November or December this year.
That said, it's not all delays at Rockstar - Take-Two this evening also confirmed that L.A. Noire, the '40s thriller published by Rockstar and developed by Australian team Team Bondi, will be out by October.

LoveMHz posted new W.I.P. details of Love364 (a Nintendo64 emulator for homebrew 360s) on his blog:
[QUOTE]
First off, I'm sorry that the video didn't show up on this blog post at first. I fail at posting from my phone. Secondly, sorry for the lack of blog posts, but I haven't had the time between a crazy life and working on Love364 as much as possible.
The video below is of Super Mario 64 running with full vertex buffering and HLSL shaders. Now this may look like a step backwards from my previous posts before but it's actually a huge step forward for the project. The main goal of Love364 was not only to write a working N64 emulator for the 360, but also to expend the possibilities of the N64 hardware on the 360. There's so much that DirectX 9 and 10 offer in terms of graphics, post effects, and overall awesomeness. Something that wasn't possible 5-10 years ago when N64 emulation started. This also offers me a great operatunity to expand my knowledge of the 360 and DirectX.

CLK Rebellion released Xlaunch.fdf Editor:
[QUOTE]
This is a tool intended for devkits, and it allows you to edit your xlaunch.fdf file (which is where all of the images and other files for the dev launcher are held, plus a few extra like the Xbox 360 logo for some reason...).
Quite simple, just load your xlaunch.fdf file from your flash, edit the file you want to edit, and voila.
Don't be an idiot and replace files with a different extension than the one you chose to overwrite it with.

Valve boss Gabe Newell has mailed fan site HalfLife2.net to say that the developer's E3 reveal is not Half-Life 2: Episode 3.
Valve lit up the internet with speculation last week when it cheekily said it was replacing its Portal 2 event with a "surprise".
When emailed about the surprise by the site, Newell simply replied, "It isn't ep 3".
Newell also dismissed an image bearing the Half-Life logo, hero Gordon Freeman's name and "14th June" - the date of Valve's event. "Fake," he said.
Portal 2 is definitely being shown at E3, so whatever Valve's plans are, we won't be coming home empty-handed. Look at for more info - yes - next week.

Earthworm Jim HD is due out on Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday, 9th June, and will cost 800 Microsoft Points (£6.80 / €9.60).
Earthworm Jim is a rather weird 2D platformer released for a multitude of formats in the mid 1990s by Shiny Entertainment. Jim uses his head as a whip, launches cows around and generally behaviours peculiarly.
The HD update aims to make the most of all that and also introduces a four-player co-operative mode.
PlayStation Network and WiiWare versions should follow in a month's time according to previous reports. Developer Gameloft has already ported a non-HD version to iPhone.

It's rumoured that Microsoft's casual racing game Joy Ride is to be reborn as a launch title for the Natal motion controller.
That's according to a "senior retail source", speaking to CVG, who said it had been "completely reworked into a bigger, richer game than before".
The original plan for Joy Ride to be a free-to-play game has been binned, said the source. But the source didn't know if it would still be an Xbox Live Arcade exclusive or appear in the shops.
"The hope for us is that it will be a boxed release - we're still in the dark on that one - but it's definitely for Natal and will definitely be here for launch," CVG's source said.
"They're putting the final touches to it now. The biggest thing for us is that it just works with Natal's racing controls. We're reliably informed it's very intuitive."
Joy Ride, developed by BigPark, was announced at Microsoft's E3 conference last year as a free-to-play Live Arcade game featuring micro-transactions, and starring gamers' own Avatars. It was originally due out before the end of 2009.
It's been missing in action since then, barring a brief confirmation from Microsoft that it had moved to 2010.
Last week, Joy Ride's listing disappeared from Xbox.com, prompting Microsoft to say that it would "bring BigPark's vision to life in 2010".
The unveiling will apparently be at Microsoft's Natal curtain-raiser on Sunday evening in LA. We'll be there.

THQ has revealed that Red Faction: Armageddon is the name of the sequel to last year's Guerrilla and that it's due out in March 2011 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
A trailer released on Friday - viewable below - reveals that, years after the events of Guerrilla, mankind has been forced from the surface of Mars into its ancient mines by the loss of the planet's vital terraforming technology.
However, worse is to come for Darius Mason - grandson of Alec Mason and Samanya from Guerrilla - when in his job as a scavenger he accidentally wakes up some of the locals and puts the future of mankind in jeopardy.
Mason will need to save his fellow colonists, reclaim territory, create alien weapons out of artefacts and sort out the stirring fauna.
Judging by the trailer, he will do this in the series' time-honoured tradition of blowing big chunks out of things - no doubt harnessing an updated version of the excellent GeoMod 2.0 tech from Guerrilla.
On top of that we're promised a new extermination mode where four players repel waves of enemies online. Sounds like a regular day at the office to us.

The PlayStation brand has always enjoyed a strong following in Europe and, in particular, the UK but Microsoft’s VP of interactive entertainment business for EMEA Chris Lewis has revealed why it remains one of his firm’s key territories, too.
“We don’t break out figures by country, but the UK continues to be a very strong market for us with the highest attach rate in the world,” he told MCV in an exclusive interview in this Friday’s magazine.
“In the face of price drops, new form factors and massive marketing expenditure by the competition, Xbox 360 still grew full-year market share in EMEA from 2008 to 2009.
“In November, we also celebrated selling 10 million consoles into customers’ homes in EMEA. Our games attach rate remains the highest in the industry, by an increasing margin, which makes us both an enviable platform and a great partner for publishers and retailers alike.”
MCV has spoken to each of the three platform holders in its E3 Special Edition, which will be circulated at the LA event next week. To read the interviews in full, make sure you check MCV magazine this Friday.

Rumors are spreading around the Internet that Microsoft is planning to announce a Hulu application for the Xbox 360 as one of their big E3 surprises. While we can't confirm whether that'll actually happen, here's what we can confirm: a Hulu application for the Xbox 360 definitely exists. A source close to Microsoft told 1UP that Microsoft does have the software for a Hulu application on the 360 fully up and running -- the only thing holding them back now are rights issues to Hulu programming.
The initial rumor was floated by Gear Live, who reported that their own source said Microsoft will announce a Hulu service on 360 at E3, which would require a subscription fee separate from an Xbox Live subscription (just like Netflix instant streaming on 360). Again, we can't confirm whether the announcement is set in stone. But if does pop up in Microsoft's E3 press conference, it'll only be because Microsoft was able to work out the licensing issues behind the scenes.
