MCV has been told by a senior global publishing source that price cuts for the Xbox 360 and PS3 will be announced by the end of the year, and possibly as early as next month’s E3.
In addition, it is believed that there’s a strong possibility that Nintendo is also considering a price cut to stave off the increased opposition expected from Microsoft’s Natal and Sony’s PlayStation Move this Q4.
The publishing source in question has revealed that its own financial projections have been constructed around the belief that price drops are planned and that, as a result, console install bases will be higher than current trends point to this Q4.
The increasingly busy Q4 release schedule backs up the belief that publishers are expecting a very busy period in the traditional markets.
The likelihood is that Sony is planning an entry-level £200 PS3 SKU to compliment its existing high-end high-capacity offerings, probably including one controller and a 40GB or 60GB HDD.
Microsoft, meanwhile, is less likely to significantly reduce the RRP of the Xbox 360 and will instead add to existing retail offerings by adding the motion camera Natal to the standard SKU.
Its entry-level bundle is expected to cost between £130-£150, though a Natal-less sub-£100 SKU has also been rumoured.
UPDATE: When asked by MCV, reps for SCE UK have laughed away the claims. A spokesperson for Nintendo told us: "This is total rumour and speculation and we currently have no plans to cut the price of Wii in the UK."

Scuba156 of Xbox1Crew released a new version of Batch Con Flag Remover. It's a tool that will batch-uncorrupt game saves from a banned console instead of having to do it one by one.
What's new/fixed:
+ Redesigned the GUI
+ Changed 'open' button to 'Add' which now allows you to select multiple directories to add for batch removing
+ Added a remove button (can remove multiple selections)
+ Now also searches for files in the selected directory (for single file flag removal)
+ Fixed a typo
+ Now only writes to file if the flag needs to be removed instead of writing 'FFFFFFFF" regardless
+ Check if file is already listed so no duplicate items (determined by file
location)
+ Begun to write for resigner (very little but its a start)
- Ignore the product ID column, it is not working as of yet

Artik of logic-sunrise.com posted an update of their upcoming FBAnext - a Neo-Geo, Megadrive, CP System I, CP System II, CP System III, Sega and Taito emulator for homebrew 360s.
The current (private) W.I.P. build plays 95% of ROMs at full speed, with sound and in full filtered (HQ3X) 1080P. Advanced future versions will also support other software and hardware filters. Other new stuff in the current build: support for megadrive (genesis) ROMs, 2-player mode, ROM reset without leaving FBAnext.
The first public release is expected by the end of this month.
[QUOTE]
Here is a video I did, to show you FBAnext running in 1080P, graphic filtered! Genesis support has been implanted, and most roms runs like a charm with sound Here is the video, running a Genesis game, the a neo-geo and finally, a little CPS3 game

There's new evidence to suggest that 2002 side-scroller Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project may be coming to Xbox Live Arcade.
A new entry in America's ESRB ratings database lists the game for an Xbox 360.
This isn't the first hint we've had at an Xbox Live re-release for the Manhattan Project. Gamerbytes noticed a LinkedIn update pointing to the game late last year, and the Korean Game Rating Board listed the game last month.
We weren't terribly impressed with the game when it first hit PCs eight years ago, calling it an "entertaining yet somewhat shallow and overly simplified action game".

If you've been waiting to lay waste to some split-jawed Elites -- or, conversely, to some uppity Spartans -- then today is your lucky day. Bungie has tweeted that Invasion mode will be added to the Halo: Reach beta at "around 11am PDT" today.
Lest you forgot how Invasion mode works, it's a 6-on-6, Spartan vs. Elite gametype that sees the Elites on the offensive, trying to take objectives and unlock new sections of the map. The Spartans, obviously, have to defend said objectives. Also, unlike most other modes in Reach, Invasion allows players to respawn next to a designated teammate (out of combat), adding to the strategic possibilities. On paper, it sounds a bit like Bad Company 2's Rush mode. In the beta, Invasion can only be played on Boneyard, a new, huge map with lots of vehicles and progressively deadlier weaponry unlocked as the match plays on.
In other words, clear your schedule. You have plans tonight.

Maybe you don't need another World War II shooter, but how about three? If recently spotted listings on GameStop and Amazon are accurate, a new Call of Duty compilation, dubbed Call of Duty: The War Collection, will be released next month.
The collection bundles together the three WWII-based games in the series available on Xbox 360: Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty: World at War -- all for $60. Given that Call of Duty 2 was never released on PS3, it seems unlikely that Sony's platform will receive this particular collection.
That's three (old) Call of Duty games for the price of one standard Xbox 360 game. Not a bad deal, especially for Modern Warfare players in need of a history lesson. According to GameStop and Amazon, The War Collection will be released this June.

Details on Gears of War 3's weapons, dynamic environments and additional combat systems have tumbled out in a new translation of the Russian preview that Cliff Bleszinski was grumpy about the other day.
Thanks to a Russian friend of Digital Foundry editor Rich Leadbetter, we know a number of additional details. For example, Gears 3 features a new grenade launcher with grenades that burrow underground and emerge on the other side of cover to strike enemies even when they're protected.
There's also a double-barrel shotgun that fires both shells simultaneously, and a single-shot rifle that does increasing damage when you achieve consecutive hits on the same target.
More weapons than before allow you to perform melee fatalities, too. Traditionally the Lancer could be used to chainsaw enemies, but now the knife can slice throats, while other weapons can break necks, and the flamethrower can be used to torch someone from within (use your imagination, I guess).
While it was possible to grab somebody as a "meat shield" in Gears of War 2, the third game will also allow you to strap a grenade to a meat shield and then kick him towards his friends. Boom. There are three grenades types, as well - smoke, explosive and napalm.
The game has previously been confirmed as four-player co-op, but now we also know that it will be possible to swap weapons with your friends while playing together, so if you're more of a Lancer man than shotty, do a deal.
The preview also revealed Lost Planet-style exoskeletal suits, in this case called Silverbacks. They have miniguns with unlimited ammo along with a limited-ammunition grenade launcher. Apparently they're well-armoured at the front but not so much from behind, and can also be used in stationary mode as a turret.
On the technological side, Epic has made it possible for environments to change more dramatically as you move through them. An example given is a street that suffers an earthquake as you move down it, altering the geology and bringing water cascading down from a nearby river. We should also see things like wind simulation (or at least feel their presence).
Gears of War 3 is due out on 8th April 2011 in Europe and we're expecting to learn more about it at E3 next month. In the meantime, check out the announcement trailer again to whet your appetite.

Activision plans to release its second map pack for Modern Warfare 2 in the "back half of the year" according to CFO Thomas Tippl.
Referring to releases in the second half of calendar 2010, Tippl said during last night's earnings call: "With respect to the Call of Duty franchise, we plan to release the second Map Pack for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, which is currently in development at Infinity Ward."
Tippl later said that the first pack, the Stimulus Package, had been a roaring success and the $15 - 1200 Microsoft Points - price tag had been the right call for Activision.
"I think they've been selling incredibly well. As you know, we've expanded the number of maps that we are providing as part of that release," he said.
"And therefore, the $15 price point has still provided a fantastic value to gamers and is also evidenced by the billions of hours that people are playing the game online. So we think that has worked.
"We have currently the second Map Pack in development at Infinity Ward. So we expect this to be launch sometime later this year. And we haven't made any comment beyond that at this point," he added.

the total number of players for the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta exceeded 1 million in the game's first 24 hours of availability, according to Microsoft.
In stats provided to blog site Kotaku the number of players on Monday, May 3 were put at 1,170,112, with 157,972,986 in-games kills recorded.
Microsoft has already claimed the online multiplayer demo to be the "biggest console beta ever". The beta is due to run until May 19 and the completed game is due for release this autumn.
A copy of 2009's Halo 3: ODST is required to access the beta, but over the coming weekend a subscription-based Gold Xbox Live account will not be needed. This will allow Silver subscribers to access the beta for free.

Node21 (Team XeDev) released a new version of XM360, a tool running on homebrew 360s that will allow to organize, scan and unlock XBLA and DLC content.
!Update! v1.5b released.
What's new/fixed (v1.5):
* Added full support for game saves.
* Added ability to have the "remote" 360 do a force-rescan when connecting to it.
* Fixed issue where ftp stopped connecting after about 20 or so connections
* Added ability to delete XBLA content on the first page (including REMOTE content)
* Added display of file size to first page
* Added support for UsbMU0: and UsbMU1: if you are using dash 9199 (including via ftp)
* Don't mount DVDROM or FLASH when starting...greatly improves startup time
* Added support for new "REPORT_PATH" in the config which will be used for all reports (XBLA, DLC, GAME SAVES)
* Added filter to the DLC page to show only DLC which wasn't "matched" (or "scraped")
* Added some more specific status messages when connecting to a remote 360
* The local content.bin (file written when you do a rescan all) is automatically updated if you fetch content via ftp or delete local content
** Just a quick note. Fetching and pushing content still keeps the full path intact. That means if you are trying to fetch content from a remote memory unit, for example, and you don't have a memory unit locally...it won't work. It will fail silently.
** Also, pushing content as well as deleting remote content *doesn't* update the remote content.bin. You should either remember to do a rescan all on that machine the next time you use it, or go to the Remote Connection button, check the Force Rescan checkbox, and reconnect to the remote machine.
What's new/fixed (v1.5b):
* Include DLC located on UsbMUx:
* Start all searches at xxx:\\Content\\ instead of xxx:\\Content\\0000000000000000 (game saves) This means a full scan will take longer, but it's necessary.

Here is a short clip showing Avatars in freestyle dash. There are lots of options available to skinners when creating their own themes. You can rotate the avatar with a XuiSlider, you can auto rotate the avatar with an XuiProgress bar giving preview or user control of the avatar. You will also be able to create an avatar scene to show player 1 through 4 or create a randomly generated avatar.
Here is a video showing multiple instances of the player 1 avatar. The left avatar is on an autorotate with an XuiProgressBar element using a keyframe animation to loop the changing of the value.
The right avatar is on a manual rotate with an XuiSlider... I am controlling the right bar to choose where to rotate the avatar....
Skinners start brainstorming how you can use this in your skin!

Seems that April 6th ship date that GameStop posted back in March was a bit off, but hey -- beggars can't be choosers, yeah? SanDisk has just announced that it's now shipping the planet's first licensed Xbox 360 USB flash drive, which just became useful for easily transferring gamertags, game saves, map packs, Arcade downloads, etc. from one console to another. The device is pre-configured for plug-and-play, and SanDisk is even throwing in a one-month subscription to Xbox LIVE Gold for good measure. Naturally, you'll be paying a premium for that Microsoft seal of approval, with the 8GB unit boasting an MSRP of $34.99 and the 16 gigger going for $69.99 (or £29.99 and £51.99 respectively in the UK). Hang tight if you can, though -- we get the impression that loads more are on the way from every other storage outfit, and you know what competition does to pricing. Don't you?

Three more titles have been added to the Xbox Live Games on Demand Service. They are Prince of Persia, Skate 2 and Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway.
Skate 2 costs £15 to download; the other two cost £20.
Skate 2 is the best of the three and remains the genre-leader for skateboarding games, at least until Skate 3 comes out. Skate 2 earned 8/10 on Eurogamer. You can queue it for download from the Xbox.com website.
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway is a strategic World War II shooter. Adequate but uninspiring: 7/10, said Eurogamer. You can queue Hell's Highway for download on the Xbox.com website.
Prince of Persia was supposed to be Ubisoft's big IP revival, with a sumptuous stylised visuals, co-op and an emphasis on climbing and exploration. Turned out to be a bit monotonous and boring, although some people liked it. Nevertheless, a sequel using the same engine could be a triumph, in much the same way that Assassin's Creed II now towers over AC1.

Xbox Live virtual arcade Game Room is to receive its first update today, following layoffs at Australian developer Krome Studios.
Game Room was launched at the end of March with a small selection of coin-op and early console games, but has seen no updates since.
Microsoft originally announced the service as having a goal of 1000 titles in its first three years and a weekly schedule of new additions.
The new titles due for release today remain fairly obscure, particularly to a non-US audience. They include Atari 2600 titles Super Breakout, Pitfall!, Realsports Volleyball and Basketball; Intellivision title Night Stalker; and Konami coin-op Rack 'Em Up.
With many publishers still choosing to release coin-op ports, such as the recent After Burner and Final Fight, as full Xbox Live Arcade releases it is unclear if and when Game Room will include newer and better known titles.
The developer of Game Room, Australian company Krome Studios, was recently forced to cut between 30 and 50 staff due to economic pressures.

Microsoft has said that it will not allow video or photography at its "technology-free" pre-E3 Project Natal showcase, taking place on the Sunday before the big event.
The move is likely to raise eyebrows of those questioning the motion control technology and its reaction time – Lionhead's Peter Molyneux recently told GamesIndustry.biz that he was frustrated that the tech has gone through so many iterations but Microsoft has still only shown last year's E3 demos to press and various taste-makers.
The Sunday night event is separate from Microsoft's E3 show on Monday June 14, and is intended to showcase the universal appeal of Project Natal at the 10,000 capacity Galen Centre in Los Angeles.
It's expected the platform holder will reveal new software from first and third-party partners, as it looks to get the upper hand ahead of Sony's conference on Tuesday 15, where the rival Move controller is likely to take centre stage
