Red Dead Redemption stock may be running low in the UK, but Rockstar has told MCV that the situation should be resolved within days.
The current UK No.1 has arrived amidst strong reviews - and huge interest from consumers.
Some retailers in fact say they won't have stock until next week, however Rockstar reckons supplies will be topped up by the weekend. Even crazier stories last week suggested an entire cargo boat of games had gone missing.
But it seems good old demand is the reason for the shortage. And it's a temporary shortage, at worst.
“We have seen very strong demand for Red Dead Redemption at launch which did impact on availability for gamers in some locations unfortunately and we’re sorry if that has been the case," Neil Stephen, Rockstar Games' UK GM told MCV today.
"We have been working hard with all our partners to get more stock into stores to meet the ongoing demand as quickly as possible and we believe the situation should be resolved by this weekend, so we’d like to thank everyone involved for their part in this.”

As Xbox boss prepares for life outside of Microsoft following the announcement of his retirement yesterday, the popular exec has claimed that the release of Natal later this year will provide Xbox 360 with a ‘midlife kicker’.
“Well, I think initially it presents a great opportunity for us on Xbox,” he told TechFlash. “If you think we have close to 40m consoles in the world, and every one of those consoles can work with Natal. So, there's a tremendous opportunity from a business perspective to produce a new experience for people without shipping a new console.
“That's sort of the Holy Grail in many ways of the console world is how do you ship completely new game experiences without actually forcing everybody to start over again, and I think Natal certainly presents that opportunity.
“So, for me it's a jumpstart catalyst. It's a midlife kicker for the 360, and it's an opportunity to really drive that business in a dramatic way.”
Furthermore, Back thinks that the true potential of Natal might not be felt until as long as three years after it hits the shelves – a timeframe that would see Xbox 360 into its ninth year.
“When I think about the broader impact, I think you're going to feel that over 12, 24, 36 months, because I think we'll do some great experiences out of the gate, and people will say, wow, that's really cool,” he added.
“Then the creative teams will really hit their stride, then the technology team will really hit its stride, and how it integrates with Live will get enhanced. Because it's software and services oriented, you've got three, four years of some really cool innovation that can happen.”

Resistance developer Insomniac Games is working on a new intellectual property to be published on Microsoft's Xbox 360 platform - the first time the studio has worked on a non-Sony platform in its sixteen year history.
The new franchise, to be published by EA Partners, will be for both the PS3 and the Xbox 360, and will take place in a "brand new universe", although further specifics on the project are being kept strictly under wraps.
"Working with EA Partners allows us to extend the reach of our games to a multiplatform audience while retaining ownership of the intellectual property," said Ted Price, founder and CEO of Insomniac Games.
"We are excited and eager to introduce Insomniac to a new group of gamers while reinforcing to our loyal fans what makes our games special."
Insomniac's Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank and Resistance franchises have combined to sell more than 35 million units worldwide on Sony platforms.
EA Partners has announced a string of high-profile deals over the last 12 months, including publishing duties for Crytek's first move onto console with Crysis 2, the ambitious release of Realtime Worlds' APB and last month's partnership to partly bank-roll Respawn Entertainment, the new team from ex-Call of Duty leads Jason West and Vince Zampella.
"This is an exciting day for all of us at EA Partners and for gamers everywhere," offered David DeMartini, senior vice president of EA Partners.

Following rumours of a significant restructuring to Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Division, an internal memo from CEO Steve Ballmer has confirmed the retirement of EDD president Robbie Bach and, as rumoured, the departure of J Allard.
Bach leaves after 22 years at the company, though Allard – himself a 15-year Microsoft veteran – is to remain as an official advisor.
Effective from July 1st both interactive entertainment boss Don Mattrick and mobile chief Andy Lees will report directly to Balmer.

The PC version of Front Mission Evolved will feature a stereoscopic 3D mode when it arrives this September.
Consumers will be able to experience intense mech battles in a whole new way through nVidia’s 3D Vision technology.
Front Mission Evolved will be released on September 17th, and will also launch on PS3 and Xbox 360.

It’s not Wednesday, but Japan woke up to a new Xbox Live Arcade game. Without any warning, Doom II appeared on the Xbox Live Marketplace, but only in Japan. Gamerbytes caught the surprise addition and promptly posted the news. Microsoft have not taken the game offline yet.
You can download Doom II now and play it before the rest of the world if you have a spare 800 Microsoft Points ($10) linked to a Japanese account. Or just settle for the free demo. Don’t expect much, though. Doom II for Xbox Live Arcade is simply Doom II.

In Gears of War 3 you'll be able to perform flying-kick take-downs directly from cover, and there'll be a new Arcade mode with a HUD that tracks score, multipliers and your teammate's location.
There'll even be Unreal-inspired mutators available for co-op games that might swell heads to ridiculous levels or add another variable to the formula, according to GamesRadar's latest preview.
Gears of War 3 takes place 18 months after Gears of War 2, and begins on a huge naval carrier called Raven's Nest that has turned to a refuge for remaining dregs of humanity.
Hero Marcus Fenix moves through the decks looking for old friend Dom Santiago, who he finds watering his plants. Reunited, the pair soon run into Gears of War 3's new enemy, the Lambent, as gigantic stalks burst out of the water and spew Polyp onto Raven's Nest.
Polyp are fast, scuttling creatures that will be hard to hit. But they'll be the least of your worries; the Lambent Drudges are much tougher. These apparently look a bit like Locust Drones, only with glowing limbs. And they mutate.
One mutation has them grow in height and gob chunks of emulsion; another has their arms stretch and flail; another turns their legs into trunks to spawn Polyp; and yet another has their head detach and write on the floor breathing fire.
Thankfully, Gears of War 3 introduces co-op for four people during the campaign. Baird, Cole and Anya will be playable, as will newcomer Jayson Stratton. They'll need to work together to open doors, hold back fencing and even fire super weapons.
And they'll have a beefed up arsenal. That double-barrelled shotgun we mentioned earlier this month is the sawn-off Gnasher shotgun. This has an incredibly wide blast at close range but reloads slowly. A Gnasher execution involves neck snapping while reloading.
There's a new rifle called the Pendulum Airlancer that has a bayonet. This is strong up close but packs an incredible kick, making it tricky to stay on target. A Pendulum Airlancer execution involves a bayonet-stab to the side and a throat slash.
There's a beefed-up sniper rifle called the One Shot that fires bullets as big as forearms that can rip through even a Boomer's shield. There's no mention of an execution move, presumably because finished enemies will be at range.
But even the Mortar will execute: Marcus staves enemies heads in while feet spasm.
The biggest new weapon is the Silverback exo-skeleton. Not only does this have a minigun and a rocketlauncher, but players can also Roadie Run and Curb Stomp while using it. The suit overheats if overused and has a weak, unprotected rear. In defensive mode, the Silverback turns into an immovable lump of metal team-mates can use for cover.
Gears of War 3 will of course have multiplayer, although the modes are being kept under wraps for now. Maps include Overpass, a place where several earthquakes will happen during play and sink the city; Cracking Up, a map that turns from sunny to stormy to hurricane to volcano; Thrash Bash, a thrashball stadium with active scoreboard; and Barney Rubble.
Gears of War 3 will be released for Xbox 360 on 8th April 2011.

Online reports claim that original Xbox evangelist J Allard is currently on sabbatical from Microsoft and may not return to the company.
Citing unnamed sources, Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet suggests that Allard took a leave of absence from the company after the recent closure of the Courier Tablet project he had been working on.
Although only one of Foley's sources suggests that Allard was encouraged to leave by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, there seems to be general agreement that he was unhappy about Courier's cancellation and increasing keen to leave the company.
Allard was one of the original champions of the Xbox brand, undergoing a radical makeover to take centre stage at a number of press conferences and public events. After overseeing the launch of the Xbox 360 though Allard disappeared from public view and was never again seen to be publically involved with the Xbox brand.
Instead he became involved in research and development for a number of secret projects, including Courier and what eventually became the Zune media player.
Microsoft has refused to comment on Allard's current whereabouts or status, although his corporate profile still lists him as chief experience officer and chief technology officer.

Infamous Grand Theft Auto radio DJ and regular Rockstar contributor Lazlow Jones has said he hopes the "really gritty western" atmosphere of Red Dead Redemption "evokes an emotional response" from players distinct from GTA's satire.
"I hope that for the people that do pick it up that it evokes an emotional response," he told Radio 1 Newsbeat.
"That people will feel they're part of our world and that they'll become immersed in the time period. We did so much research into everything. What the guns of the time looked like, what the clothes looked like, what the interiors in the game are like. Those interiors were all specifically researched by our people in great detail, so I hope they'll love it and that it'll put a smile on their face."
Asked how it felt to complete a five-year project like Redemption, he said: "It's an amazing high. You're also very sensitive to any criticism about it because you've worked so hard on it."
The producer - who claimed to get involved with Rockstar after he met one of the founders while out surfing - also said that he thinks the success of the last Grand Theft Auto game has made it a lot easier to create adult game content without being ripped apart by the censors.
"I think that Rockstar has pushed a lot of boundaries to be able to make the art that that we believe we should be able to make," he said.
"If you tell a gritty crime drama with violence and profanity and call it The Sopranos you're handed a load of awards to put up on the shelf. You do the same and call it a video game and you'll have certain organisations up in arms.
"I think ever since GTA IV came out and there were such rave reviews by major publications saying that this is actually art the restrictions about being politically correct have largely fallen away."

Bungie has announced that Halo: Reach will launch in the US and Europe on September 14, and in Japan a day later.
The recent beta for the game saw more than 2.7 million players take part, logging 16 million hours and more than 1.1 billion kills during the 18-day test. Access to the beta was through last year's release, Halo: ODST.
"It's exceeded our expectations," said Bungie community director Brian Jarrard. "Our only real perspective going into this was the Halo 3 beta test, which had about 800,000 people. We knew there were a couple million copies of ODST' out there, but we really didn't have any specific information that let us know what the population might be like."
"There really is tons of analytical data that we need to derive from the beta test with regard to the network and back-end systems," added creative director Marcus Lehto.
"We needed our fans to provide feedback. We needed a very large audience to hammer on this game, which allows us to use the data that really helps shape the final product."
Reach is the last Halo game from Bungie, and once it's out the door, the team will be firmly committed to its new 10-year deal with Activision.
"It's absolutely bittersweet," offered Lehto. "We created this. I was there on day one in 1997 back when it was just three of us working on what ultimately became 'Halo.' Now, we have the largest team we've ever had on a 'Halo' game. We're having fun, but closing this series out as the leader of this project, I will definitely be sad when it's all over."

Extra checks to determine drive hardware type, as opposed the Inquiry info.
