FBA-xxx Pro is a a derivative build of FBAxxx, the main purpose of which is to add support for the latest and most accurate ROMsets available to the emulation scene. A great many changes and additions have been made to the rather outdated sets supported by the original build, including new parents, new clones, new bootlegs, support for both encrypted and decrypted Neo-Geo sets, as well as the latest CPS and other set updates from MAME. Alot of new code has been added to improve the accuracy of the emulation, there are some minor tweaks and bugfixes to the emulator itself, and a new default skin (a modified version of the excellent Fighter skin by Duracelleur) is included.
Both Romcenter and ClrMAMEPro DATs can also be found in the package so please make use of them to ensure the ROMsets you have are the ones FBA-xxx Pro requires. And don't forget you'll also need the Neo-Geo bios set (neogeo.zip) in your ROMs folder.
A reader dropped us a tip asking the following good question. Because the question and answer shed light on the console wars, we're sharing it with you.
"I recently decided that I would like to have an Xbox for my upstairs bedroom so that my fiancée can play games that she enjoys such as DDR and Psychonauts.... I have since discovered from numerous store managers that Microsoft has discontinued the core version of the original Xbox. Now instead of paying $149.99 for an Xbox, as one has been able to do since 2003, it is necessary to drop $179.99 for an Xbox packaged with Forza Motor Sport (a game made by Microsoft).... The real kicker is that the only way to buy an Xbox now is to pay $30 more than the system cost for the past 2-3 years just because it is packaged with a first party game that retails for $19.99 (new).... Since when did console makers RAISE the prices of consoles towards the end of their cycle?"
Good question. We searched Amazon, Buy.com, and Wal-Mart.com and could not find an original Xbox console for less than $170. All of the consoles found at these sites (except used consoles offered through Amazon.com third-party sellers) came bundled with Forza. Why has Microsoft chosen to restrict (or discontinue) the supply of core Xbox systems at exactly the moment when console manufacturers have tended to drop prices?
There are a few reasons why we imagine Microsoft might pursue what appears to be a perverse strategy.
The Xbox is installed in fewer than 25 million homes worldwide versus the PlayStation's estimated install base of around 100 million. At this point, no sane third-party developer or publisher is going to release an exclusive for the Xbox given the lower overall demand for Xbox games. It's also unlikely that Microsoft is going to force its first-party developers to pour resources into a last-gen console at a time when the Xbox 360 needs and requires 100% of internal support. Given the situation, the game is no longer about Xbox vs. PS2 sales. Any additional support of the original Xbox in the form of games or even price subsidies would be counterproductive.
So forget the idea that Microsoft will do anything that supports the Xbox. Heck, they're going to actively discourage Xbox sales by bumping up the price so that the Xbox 360 looks even more attractive relative to an Xbox purchase. Every prior-gen system sold at this point is lost walletshare that could have been dedicated towards next-gen gaming. The price increase is a great way to encourage recalcitrant gamers to consider upgrading to an Xbox 360.
There's some evidence that Microsoft's strategy is working. The biggest games publishers are having difficulty making money right now because demand for previous-generation gaming has dried up as gamers increasingly look toward the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Revolution. This shift in consumer demand forces developers and publishers to jettison or retool prior-gen projects and turn more squarely towards the future--a future that is so far dominated by the only console on store shelves: the Xbox 360.
Expect Nintendo and Sony to do what they can to keep gamers suckling at the teat of prior-gen systems. Neither Sony nor Nintendo are eager to cut off a revenue stream before they've launched their respective next-gen consoles. If they can keep gamers happy for just a little bit longer, they have a better chance of keeping those gamers as customers when their next-generation systems finally launch later this year.

Lightgun for Plasma TV. Lightgun for 100 Hz Television. Lightgun for LCD screen. Lightgun for VGA monitor. Lightgun for DLP projector TV. Lightgun for HDTV... If one of these was either on your Santa wish-list or in your recent Internet searches, you've been waiting long enough for this! The LCD TopGun for Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PC is coming to the rescue as it fits with just all the needs described above, running on any screen or television set you can imagine, old or new. Hell, it even is supposed to work with a retroprojector or with the upcoming SED technology from Toshiba! Presented for the first time to us at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair last Christmas, the LCD TopGun finally came out two weeks ago. The bad boy is selling like hot cakes ever since, and in between intensive shipping sessions, we also took the time to test it out with various screens and configurations. That's right, it's been two weeks we got paid to shoot zombies with an attitude, while listening to pumpin' 'n' pimpin' gansgta rap music real loud... "Lik Sang Clan ain't nothin' to f#@k with!"
The LCD TopGun is changing hands for US$ 34.95 only, quantity discounts are available for quantity purchases. We suggest getting an extra controller extension cord while you are it, to make sure you have the necessary comfort when playing from the recommended distance. We have stock of such cables for very low prices on both PlayStation 2 and Xbox.
* Updated supported bootleg sets based on the latest information. (thanks to Ferchogtx)
* The following sets have been added: ms4boot, ms5boot, kof2k1bl, kf2k1pls, kf2k1pla, kf2k2spr, kf2k2plb, kf2k3exa
* No more corrupted graphics in ms4plus, ms5plus, kf2k2mp, and kf2k2mp2.
* Removed unobtainable mslug5 M ROM. (game runs fine without it)
* Added encrypted M ROMs to decrypted C sets. (this is correct for these sets since ideally only the C ROMs should be decrypted)
Xport has released a new version of Beats of RageX, a port of Beats of Rage, a fun beat-em-up game developed by the people at Senile.
The new version adds support for OpenBOR, an extension of the Beats of Rage engine by the people at www.openbor.net.
Extra Features in OpenBOR:
* Running
* More flexibility in modding (walkable areas, hole shapes/sizes)
* Customizable "free specials" (any 2 directional combination and an action button)
* New attack types (freeze, burn, steal)
* Blocking for players and enemies
* Ability to have adjustable walking areas using a unique "wall" system
* Ability to jump on/walk on obstacles
* Updated decrypted M ROMs to most recent versions.
* Re-added mslug5 encrypted M ROM. (a fake is now available with the correct CRC. This should suffice until the real one is released)
* The following sets have been added: kf10thua, kf97plsa, kf2k4spl
* And the following PD games: Frog Feast, Jonas Indiana and the Temple of Ra
* Fixed AES mode in nitd/nitdd
* Some other minor updates and corrections.
* Re-added the ROMlist counter by request and updated default skin to incorporate this.
* Fixed some irregularities in the DATs.
I've just had it confirmed that the decrypted M ROMs added to the v1.08 build were not publicly available dumps. It seems I was misinformed and therefore have released this fixed build which restores these ROMs to their previous CRCs.
Apologies for any confusion this mistake may have caused.

* added: <radiowidth>, <radioheight>, <radioposx>, <radioposy> tags to radiobuttons.

* NOTE: www.xbmcscripts.com is as of this typing still down, causing the XBMCScripts Installer to fail!
Keep in mind this is a CVS snapshot of the current development tree. It's not an official (stable) point release. Use only if you know what you are doing.
Xport has released a new version of XBoyAdvance a GBA/GBC/GB/SGB/SGB2 emulator for Xbox.
What's new:
* Updated to v1.8.0b sources
* GUI brought up to date with any missing features
* Much more robust mp3 playlist features
* People who cannot display 480i should be able to see something now
* 480p, 720p should work fine now
* Previously, all save state files, config files, sram files were stored in one directory. Now each game gets its own directory. This will allow for 4096 games. 4096 is the maximum number of files/subdirectories that can exist in one directory on the XBox. Existing files are moved automatically.
* Fixed bug with ISO9660 DVD images where information could not be read past the first 2GB of data on the disc. The directory would be displayed fine, but when you selected a game that existed past the first half of the disc, it would fail.
* Video lines shifted up to fix problem with lines getting cut off on the bottom.
* Fixed white strip in upper left corner when emulator plays first game.
* New option to autoload the last game you played upon launching the emulator. Find it on the second page of Configuration-]General
* When you change the save type for GBA, the SRAM file will automatically be deleted. Previously, if you did not delete the save file if one was already created, it would get read in which caused problems. This is useful for when you select the wrong initial SRAM type for certain games (like Dragon Ball Z).
* Added locked-aspect-ratio mode when resizing the game screen
* Implemented a few misc GBA bugfixes from various other sources
Xport has once again updated the GBA, GBC etc emulator for the Xbox:
whats new:
* Save files are now only moved to their new location once. If you wish to use your save games on a previous version of XBoyAdvance, then do the following:
+ Run this version of XBoyAdvance once and then exit back to the dashboard.
+ Copy the save games from their new location back to the old location
Default new location is E:\SAVES\XBOYADVANCE\[gamename]
Default old location is E:\SAVES\XBOYADVANCE\
+ Run any previous version of XBoyAdvance and your saves should work again and they will never be moved again.
* Added an option to display FPS on the General Settings page.
* Fixed incorrect kf2k2mp2 P2 ROM.
* Fixed corrupted GFX in ms5boot.
* Fixed sound in ms4boot.
* Fixed missed controller presses when navigating menus.
* Removed switch to hide clone sets from ROMlist. (for some games the only working sets are clones so this option is useless)
* All INI files are now saved to the emulator's TDATA folder.
* Updates to default skin.
Xport released a new version of XBoyAdvance, a GBA/GBC/GB emulator for Xbox.
What's new:
* Reverted back to 1.7.2 core
* Implemented relevant portions of VBAsmooth code
* Delayed auto-load save states to avoid strange slowdown. Sometimes when the auto-loading of save states happened, the GBA emulation would be very very sluggish, like the timing is off. Seems the GBA emulation needs to "warm-up" for a second before loading the save state.
