Discounts website says interest in Xbox 360 version is twice that of PS3
The Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII is on track to outsell the PS3 SKU by two-to-one – that’s the prediction of discount shopping portal MyVoucherCodes.co.uk.
The site comes to the conclusion based on the number of searches made on its server, with interest in the Xbox 360 title running at double the rate of its rival.
It also states that the sheer amount of enquiries about the game point to it being the most successful release of 2010 to date. In February alone over 250,000 searches were made for the Xbox 360 release and 120,000 for the PS3 disc.
“The Final Fantasy series has always been a huge draw for Sony, since its debut on the PlayStation in the form of Final Fantasy VII,†MyVoucherCodes MD Mark Pearson stated.
“For Microsoft to now be sharing and in fact beating the interest for the PS3 version must be worrying Sony chiefs, who must be wondering just how to steal the march back, if it is at all possible. Our Christmas sales data showed that Xbox 360s were outselling PS3s three-to-one in the holiday period, a fact which seems to be presenting itself here as consumers show more interest in the Xbox 360 title.â€

Final Fantasy XIII on Xbox 360 will outsell the PlayStation 3 version by 2:1.
That's according to findings from MyVoucherCodes, which claims its website has received more than 250,000 unique searches for Final Fantasy XIII on the Xbox 360, compared to 120,000 searches for the game on the PS3 since February 1st this year.
"The Final Fantasy series has always been a huge draw for Sony, since its debut on the PlayStation in the form of Final Fantasy VII," says Mark Pearson, managing director of MyVoucherCodes.
"For Microsoft to now be sharing and in fact beating the interest for the PS3 version must be worrying Sony chiefs, who must be wondering just how to steal the march back, if it is at all possible. Our Christmas sales data showed that Xbox 360s were outselling PlayStation 3s three to one in the holiday period, a fact which seems to be presenting itself here as consumers show more interest in the Xbox 360 title."
Square is already confident that Final Fantasy XIII will sell well, so it won't be worrying too much about these findings, we shouldn't think. The question is, which version are you getting?

We've been teasing our interview with Co-founder and former CEO of DICE, Fredrik Liliegren, in sections, but before we drop the entire thing, we thought it'd be just to highlight Liliegren's thoughts on Mirror's Edge.
While Mirror's Edge was received fairly well by reviewers, the game didn't catch on with gamers all that much. Here's how our questions went:
Gaming Union: What do you think of DICE's choice to make Mirror's Edge, and now that they're developing a sequel?
Liliegren: Knowing that that product was in development for about seven years.. [laughs] and given that it wasn't Mirror's Edge when we started, but it was one team working on 'the new IP' for seven years, I think they did a strong final. They did something different that people hadn't done before. I think it needed a second generation so they can tweak on it, I played it a little bit.
GU: Do you think it was a good idea for them to make that, compared to making more of what's already been successful for them?
Liliegren: I think they were given an opportunity, and that was stated throughout the seven years "to come up with something different," and I think that they did that. I think they achieved that goal. I think they learned a lot, and I think that they definitely got a lot of press out of it, [an] insane amount of press actually, given that they didn't really sell that well. So I think it raised DICE itself for a developer that thinks out of the box.
Incase you're wondering, Liliegren departed DICE when EA bought out the company. At the time Liliegren was managing DICE Canada, but when EA bought DICE, they decided to shut down that studio. Since then Liliegren formed another studio called Antic Entertainment, which we just so happened to do an interview about.

Rare's opening a new office in Birmingham to help bring Project Natal up to scratch for an autumn 2010 release.
Rare's rural Twycross studio will remain the "creative hub", but this urban Fazeley location will provide crucial extra testing space and flexible access to top creative talent and a variety of testers.
"First of all, because of the nature of Natal - and it would have been exactly the same with the Wii - to test it properly you need a larger physical space than you had before," Rare boss Mark Betteridge explained to GamesIndustry.biz.*
"But also with Natal, we believe test is extremely important to get the balance and the content of the game right - because a lot of the people that Microsoft will be appealing to with this technology won't be traditional games players, and we need to test with a wide range of people, different ages, demographics, and so on.
"I don't mean testing in the sense of does the game crash, or is the artwork correct," he added, "I mean proper user testing. Also with Natal there'll be a huge variety in the set-ups that people will have in their homes, so it's very important that we optimise any title to work in any of them."
If you live around the Fazeley area, look out for a call to arms; Betteridge says the studio will probably ask people to come in for a couple of hours at a time.

Ubisoft overlord Yves Guillemot wants his company to turn out Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed games "more often".
"This is a long-term vision," Max Beland, creative director at Ubisoft Montreal, told Edge Online. "I'm not telling you that in a year you'll have another Splinter Cell. Right now the direction Yves gave us and where the company is going is, at one point, if the direction doesn't change, yes you're going to be seeing Splinter Cell games - just like Assassin's Creed games, just like anything else - released a little bit more often."
The upcoming Splinter Cell: Conviction may be an Xbox 360 (and PC) exclusive, but Beland says Microsoft has no such control over the rest of the series. Not yet.
"I'm not involved in the business deals. I joined Splinter Cell after the exclusivity deal with Microsoft had already been signed, but there's no reason why Splinter Cell couldn't be on the PS3," he said. "Conviction? No because of the exclusivity deal. I know people keep talking about maybe, maybe not, [but] at Ubisoft Montreal I haven't seen anyone working on PS3 for Conviction.
"[The next game] is open to new deals," he added. "If Microsoft wants an exclusivity deal, they don't call me, it's Yves dealing with the business people. But yeah, I guess we could even be a PS3 exclusive if there's a deal that makes people happy there."
Whether Sony would stump up the cash for it is another matter, of course.
Splinter Cell: Conviction will be released on 16th April on PC and Xbox 360.

Superfly beat-em-up Street Fighter IV has joined the Xbox Marketplace library of Games on Demand.
That means you can download it directly to your Xbox 360. The game is priced at £19.99.
Our US counterparts have a different addition to the library this week in the shape of Fallout 3. There's no word on when, or indeed whether, the game will also make it to the European Marketplace.
Still, Street Fighter IV should keep you going - we're big fans here at Eurogamer, with the game scoring 10/10 in our review.

Sega was shy with the details when it shared first footage of Platinum Games' new "Vanquish" in late January. It didn't even provide the game's platform.
Thanks to Japan's always reliable Weekly Famitsu, we can now confirm that the title actually has two platforms: PS3 and Xbox 360. Japan will get the game this Winter.
A new Platinum Games title would draw attention anyway, but this game is particularly special because it's the first game from Shinji Mikami, director of the original Resident Evil and countless other Capcom hits, in four years. Mikami is serving as director on Vanquish, with Platinum's Atsushi Inaba serving as producer.
Mikami shared a few high level details in an interview with the magazine.
Vanquish takes place in the near future and puts you up against robots rather than other humans. The story appears to be centered on a conflict between Russia and America.
You take control of a main character who wears a slim armor suit. Your gun transforms in real time to new forms.
Mikami describes the game's genre as "shooter." Based off the screens in the magazine, he seems to mean third person shooter.
But this isn't just a generic shooter. The game will have the speed and rhythm you get from playing an action game, he said. This will be particularly true of the boss battles.
Gameplay systems mentioned in the magazine include a boost system which lets you close the gap between enemies quickly, and some sort of bullet time system that lets you slow the action down.
Development on Vanquish is currently at 80%, Mikami told the magazine. The development staff is assembling the basic areas of the game right now, but still have to tackle the more precise, detailed areas like enemy and ally AI.

Take Two has announced that Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption is now due for release on 18th May in the US and 21st May elsewhere - three weeks later than originally planned.
The publisher issued its Q1 financial results this evening and also noted that Grand Theft Auto IV has now sold over 15 million units worldwide, while BioShock 2 has shipped three million units.
Elsewhere there was confirmation that LA Noire, Mafia II, Max Payne 3 and Sid Meier's Civilization V are all due out in the company's fourth fiscal quarter - which ends 31st October 2010 - but the publisher noted that its guidance "reflects the potential movement of one of these titles into fiscal 2011".
Take Two's financial call starts soon, during which we look forward to the latest variation on boss-man Strauss Zelnick ranting about how he won't comment on when Grand Theft Auto V's coming out.

Sony Computer Entertainment should sue Microsoft over XBLA car combat game, Scrap Metal, says Twisted Metal creator David Jaffe.
Writing on his blog, the God of War man accused Sony of sitting by while other's ripped off its game properties.
"George Lucas gonna sue somebody. Ok, maybe not Lucas but Sony should. Or if I owned the rights to TWISTED METAL and GOD OF WAR, I sure as hell would at the least send a sternly worded legal letter. Heck, I'd send two legal letters if it were me," Jaffe wrote.
"I mean, first Microsoft puts out a car combat game and calls it SCRAP METAL? Hey, looks like a great game! Right up my alley! Day one purchase for me. But come on guys, isn't that just a little too close to Sony's own car combat game TWISTED METAL?"
The next target on Jaffe's sue list is upcoming movie, War of the Gods: "Sony has GOD OF WAR, a game and potential movie about mortals fighting ancient Greek Gods. And then this movie gets announced called WAR OF THE GODS about- yep!- mortals fighting ancient Greek Gods."
He adds: "Look: Sony doesn't- and should not- own the concept of the Greek Myths. Nor should they own the idea of mortal fighting ancient Gods, Greek or any other kind. That's all public domain stuff. But the TITLE? Sony DOES own that. And GOD OF WAR/WAR OF THE GODS seem a little too close to comfort ya'll."
We have to admit, Scrap Metal is scraping the legal body work a little bit...

Lawyer speculates that outgoing West and Zampella could win right to veto further releases in MW series
Much about the acrimonious split between Infinity Ward founders Jason West and Vince Zampella and publisher Activision remains unknown, but one lawyer has speculated that the inevitable court battle that is on the way could conceivably result in future releases in the Modern Warfare series being vetoed.
On Tuesday it was confirmed that Activision had sacked former Infinity Ward owners West and Zampella.
However, today it emerged that the pair are to sue Activision over claims it terminated their employment just weeks before they were due to be paid ‘substantial royalty payments’ as part of their existing Modern Warfare 2 deal.
As part of the statement their lawyer confirmed that they are seeking to “vindicate the contractual rights Activision granted to West and Zampella to control Modern Warfare-branded games†– a claim that litigation specialist Jas Purewal is stating could lead to what amounts to the death of the record-breaking FPS series.
“This is potentially explosive,†Purewal wrote on the Gamer/Law blog. “West and Zampella are arguing they have contractual creative control over the Modern Warfare brand.
“The details will have to come out in the litigation, but it could see West and Zampella demanding a veto over Modern Warfare 2 DLC as well as any other Modern Warfare games. If they have a good legal basis for their argument, you could even see them seeking an injunction against Activision prohibiting any further work on Modern Warfare until this lawsuit is resolved.â€
Speaking of the upcoming court battle in broader terms, Purewal added: “From what we know so far, it seems the legal crux of this litigation will be whether West and Zampella were really in breach of contract to the extent that Activision was entitled to fire them in the manner it did.
“All of this will have to be backed up by disclosure of Infinity Ward/Activision documents and witness statements from West, Zampella, Infinity Ward and Activision personnel. You can see that this is not going to be pretty.â€

Crystal Dynamics has announced that Lara Croft is set to return in a digitally downloadable adventure.
As revealed on the Eidos forums, it's titled Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. That's right, there's no mention of the words Tomb or Raider in the title - perhaps because this marks a departure for the series.
"This is a really exciting project for Crystal Dynamics, we have created something completely new and very different to what people might be expecting," said studio manager Darrell Gallagher.
"Lara Croft is such an iconic character in videogames, with Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light we have created what we believe is a truly original digital experience."
A website for the game has already been set up. There's not much to see, mind, just the opportunity to sign up for the newsletter.
The game is down for a release later this year, with platforms yet to be announced.

Original Xbox games will no longer be playable online from April 15, but Microsoft's set to ease Halo 2 obsessives from their addiction with the promise of Halo Reach beta access.
Several committed Halo 2 players have already been contacted by the Xbox Live Team, reports Kotaku, who thanked them for being "loyal" Xbox Live customers with the promise of free three-month Gold memberships and 400 Microsoft Points to spend.
Microsoft is also extending the invitation to participate in the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta, "because you've been so loyal to Halo."
A good incentive to get those stubborn Xbox 1 stalwart over to the current generation then - if they haven't already.
Last month Microsoft confirmed that the multiplayer beta - also accessible through copies of Halo 3: ODST - will kick off on May 3. See the first Halo Reach gameplay video, if you haven't already.

Sequel to award-winning first person puzzle game due this year
Valve has announced Portal 2 will arrive at Christmas.
No platform details have been revealed, although the use of the word 'shipment' in the press release implies a retail launch.
The original Portal was made available in The Orange Box, and won multiple game of the year awards. A Xbox Live Arcade version, Portal: Still Alive, was released the following year.

Peter Molyneux has moved to dampen fears over Project Natal lag, insisting there have been "countless revisions of cameras and countless revisions of software" since the demo units shown to press and celebrities in recent weeks were produced.
Following a recent London showcase, British TV personality Jonathan Ross commented via his Twitter account that Natal was "not quite there yet", which prompted Microsoft PR to confirm the hardware and game demo Ross played dated back to summer 2009.
Molyneux, who hosted an event with non-specialist media early last week at the same venue in London's Fitzroy Square, expressed his frustration at not being able to show the latest iteration of the Xbox motion-control technology.
"It's always a huge frustration as a designer when you see somebody play a version when you know it's been exceeded many times over," he said, speaking in an exclusive interview with GamesIndustry.biz at Lionhead Studios earlier this week.
"It so often happens, because you do a version for a show and then you don't do another version because you're too busy developing the game."
He added: "So very often you get a position that what a person's looking at is two, three, four months, a year old and you kind of want to go, 'no, no, it's 10 times better than that!' So it is very, very frustrating; it always is - there's just countless revisions of cameras since the one at X10 and countless revisions of software."
A Microsoft source went as far as to claim the Natal camera used in the London demos was only "one-tenth as responsive" as the latest iteration. The company is expected to reveal the final version of the hardware and the launch line-up of compatible software at E3 in July, with a release expected in the autumn.
Meanwhile, Molyneux revealed his excitement ahead of speaking at next week's GDC, stating: "I'll be showing off Fable III and we'll be making some announcements about [the game] and I've got a talk which is going through some of the big features. I'm really excited to show all the stuff."

While he was talking about cloud computing yesterday, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer made a casual remark about the future of the Xbox. Apparently there might be new form factors, options, and price points coming:
In the case of the TV we've got both strategies. We actually have a TV implementation in some senses built into Windows," Ballmer said. "It works really well for small screen TVs that you might call a PC, but for that big screen device here's a piece of hardware that we build, there's no diversity. You get exactly the Xboxes that we build for you. We may have more form factors in the future that are designed for various price points and options, but we think it's going to [be] important.
This doesn't give us a timeline or even any actual details, but at least it fuels speculation about all the things we desire and may get at some point

Guess we don't have to wait until MIX to have all our Windows Phone 7 Series questions answered! Microsoft's Eric Rudder, speaking at TechEd Middle East, showed off a game developed in Visual Studio as a singular project (with 90% shared code) that plays on Windows with a keyboard, a Windows Phone 7 Series prototype device with accelerometer and touch controls, and the Xbox 360 with the Xbox gamepad. Interestingly, not only is the development cross-platform friendly, but the game itself (a simple Indiana Jones platformer was demoed) saves its place and lets you resume from that spot on whichever platform you happen to pick up. Pretty impressive stuff, and while the words "Windows Phone 7 Series" weren't spoken by Eric, the use of the prototype ASUS device and the clear emphasis that this would place on Xbox Live for making the magic happen make it obvious that this is the "wave of the future" for all three platforms -- at least for casual gaming.

Lucasarts made a special edition of Monkey Island, and it went down real well. Know what that means? Yeah, that Lucasarts will be releasing a special edition of Monkey Island 2.
We've heard from sources that the game is due to be announced very soon, perhaps even next week at the Game Developer's Conference, and that like the first game's special edition, will contain all-new graphics and audio.
Unlike the first game, however, this one will be reaching a few more consumers, with versions planned for not just the Xbox 360, PC ad iPhone (like Monkey Island), but the PlayStation Network as well.

Are you preparing to buy your first ever Xbox 360, and are looking for the best value for your money? Alternatively, did your Xbox 360 just commit ritual seppuku, and now you're looking for a SKU that comes bundled with some good games? Both parties are in luck -- Amazon recently added a listing for an Xbox 360 Elite Spring 2010 bundle, which includes Halo 3: ODST, Forza Motorsport 3 and a 120GB hard drive for just $299.99. According to the listing, this bundle will go on sale next Tuesday, March 9 -- the same day the $399 Final Fantasy XIII bundle hits Amazon's virtual store shelves.
We're extremely excited about this news -- not because it's a great deal (though it really, really is), but because it's allowed us to break the world record for "Most Times Using The Number '3' In A Single Headline." Thanks for making this dream possible, Microsoft.

So, you read our review of Final Fantasy XIII and are prepared to pick it up next week, but you're not sure which version to buy? If you're basing your decision on graphical fidelity, the A/V experts from Eurogamer's Digital Foundry suggest you go with the PS3 version of the game -- as seen in their quartet of video comparisons, the 360 version suffered a bit of resolution reduction during its trip between platforms.
No, the difference in quality isn't groundbreaking or anything. We just wanted you to know all the factors before making a decision. Both versions have their strengths and weaknesses -- for instance, the 360 version requires you to change the disc two times, but the PS3 version of the game is unplayable once every 1,461 days.

Bizzare Creations has said that it won't release any downloadable content for its anticipated racer Blur on release, but plans it for a later date.
"I don't have any dates for DLC, but what I can say is it's always been a massive part of the strategy to support the game with DLC," Blur lead designer Ged Talbot explained. "We do have plans for DLC... Again, no one has worked on it yet."
As reported last week, Blur is set for release on Xbox 360 and PC on May 25.

Microsoft today put an Xbox 360 Hard Drive Data Migration Transfer Kit for sale on its Web store finally allowing faithful gamers looking to buy larger hard drives to do so without forfeiting all their data in the upgrade.
Don’t know about you, but I’m still on my 2005 original 20 GB hard drive. And with the rise of digital gaming, I’ve been left biting the bullet and downloading something, erasing it to make room for something else, then re-downloading it when I want to play it again.
I’ve been waiting to buy a kit like this to upgrade to a 120 or 250 GB HDD for some time and now, with certainty, I’ll do it.
And at $14.99, it’s not the totally “bend-over” price point I expected. Hooray.
Buy your [way too long of name] kit at the Microsoft Store today.

Activision's sacking of Infinity Ward bosses, Jason West and Vince Zampella "may impact future success of Call of Duty games," says analyst Michael Pachter.
Communicating via Wedbush's latest research note, Pachter writes that the pair's track record suggests that they've "contributed greatly to the brand's success".
Pachter says: "The contributions of West and Zampella are difficult to assess, but the
pair has had incredible success with each version of the game created under their supervision.
"The 'secret sauce' of their involvement is analogous to the direction of a movie; some directors work with certain types of material in a unique way, and repeatedly achieve commercial success with that material.
"In the same way, we think that West and Zampella provide something unique to the creation of games at Infinity Ward, and think it's likely that their contribution will be missed in future installments."
The Wedbush analyst adds that he believes it's "highly unlikely" that West and Zampella will gain control of the Modern Warfare brand - as set out in their Activision lawsuit.
We wish we could ask Pachter's opinion on what we should have for dinner tonight. If you're reading Michael, suggestions in the comments below...

Infinity Ward is set to release a patch for the matchmaking mode of Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox 360.
Few details are known about the fix, but the studio's community boss Robert Bowling said that it would be arriving before the game's DLC.
PS3 users have reportedly already been offered the patch.
As previously reported, CVG expects the Modern Warfare 2 release date will be in April.
Bowling wrote on Twitter:
'We'll be patching prior to DLC that will include the same matchmaking update for 360 that PS3 got, along with other updates.'

Infinity Ward director of communications Robert Bowling has announced that the total number of unique users for Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has hit 25 million players.
Writing on Twitter, Bowling also stated that Modern Warfare 2 downloadable content details would be released this week.
Modern Warfare 2 was the best-selling title of 2009, with 11.86 million units sold in the U.S., UK and Japan alone, comfortably ahead of second placed title Wii Sports Resort on 7.57 million.
Also a critical hit, the title became the latest videogame to proclaim itself the biggest entertainment launch in history, with more than $1 billion in retail sales by November 2010.
The game's five-day gross of $550 million exceeded that of previous media record holders Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ($394 million) and Grand Theft Auto IV ($500 million).
Despite this success the last few weeks have been tumultuous for developer Infinity Ward, with the shock sacking of studio heads Jason West and Vince Zampella for unspecified "insubordination".
The pair are now suing Activision amidst accusations of "astonishing arrogance and unbridled greed" and suggestions that the legal row could postpone the release of future entries in the series.
The usually outspoken Bowling has yet to comment on the situation.
A recent statement from Activision suggests that there are currently three new Call of Duty titles under production: an unnamed 2010 project from series regulars Treyarch (rumoured to have a Vietnam or Cold War setting), a 2011 "action adventure" spin-off from new studio Sledgehammer Games and a third project thought to be developed by franchise originators Infinity Ward.

Microsoft is due to unveil its "full line-up" of Project Natal games at E3 2010 in June, according to comments made by Mindy Mount, CFO of Microsoft's Entertainment & Devices division.
Speaking at the Jefferies Annual Global Technology Conference in the US, as reported by website IGN, Mount claimed that the company's best designers were working on the platform.
With Microsoft's stable of first party developers having shrunk considerably in recent years it was unclear which developers she was referring to, although Rare are known to be heavily involved with the project and Lionhead Studios are implementing Natal features in Fable III.
Smaller first party teams such as Spawnpoint Studios and BigPark are also believed to be involved in creating Natal titles.
"We have very strong first and third-party developer support for [Natal]," said Mount. "Needless to say, we're putting some of our best people on coming up with great game ideas for this, and we're going to have some great stuff."
In January of this year Microsoft's Robbie Bach claimed that 70 to 80 per cent of games publishers in the world are committed to releasing Natal-based games.

SEGA's first lump of downloadable Aliens vs. Predator content will be released on 18th March.
This Swarm Map Pack will cost 540 Microsoft Points (£4.60/€6.30) on Xbox 360 or £4.79/€5.99 on PS3. SEGA has told us the Steam price will be £4.79.
Inside are the four maps offered for free to Special Edition AVP buyers. Two of the maps - Docks, Machine - work across all six competitive multiplayer modes. The remaining two - Outpost, Hive - are maps for the wave-based co-op mode Survivor.
Aliens vs. Predator finished third in the UK All-Formats Chart yesterday, three weeks after release. Only newcomers Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Heavy Rain - plus Ubisoft's best-selling Wii game Just Dance - have displaced AVP.
That's a strong finish for a game with a solid albeit unremarkable critical reception.

We've all had a feeling that Microsoft is holding back some pretty big surprises (or at least completely reasonable revelations) when it comes to Windows Phone 7 Series and gaming, and here at GDC this week it sounds like we're going to get a little glimpse into that. Microsoft is unveiling its new XNA Game Studio 4.0, which lets developers work on games for Windows Phone 7 Series, Xbox 360 and Windows PC. The integration with Visual Studio 2010 that we saw the other day allows developers to build a single project and then make slight modifications to let it run on each platform respectively. Most importantly, Microsoft specifically mentions that 4.0 will include hardware accelerated 3D APIs for Windows Phone 7 Series -- not stunning, giving the fact that Zune can do 3D games (and is supported by XNA), but relieving just the same. Other phone-related tidbits are also telling: there will be fairly deep Xbox LIVE integration, including unlocking achievements from phone-based games and push notifications for asynchronous turn based gaming. Hopefully we can get some real live multiplayer gaming going as well, but there's no mention of that just yet. Microsoft promises "much, much more" will be revealed at MIX 2010, but for now we're gonna dig for all we can here at GDC.

Though we already know the bulk of the March release schedule for new content on the Xbox Live Marketplace, Major Nelson's blog recently laid out how the rest of the month will play out. Tomorrow, we'll get our hands on Scrap Metal for 1200 ($15), next Wednesday will see the release of Perfect Dark for 800 ($10), and on March 24, we'll get our hands on the (somewhat) free Game Room hub. Oh, and the Games on Demand service got a bit crazier today with the release of Condemned: Criminal Origins for $19.99.
If you're an insatiable value-hound, you should turn your attention to the upcoming Deals of the Weeks: The original Fable will have its price reduced to 800 ($10) from 1200 ($15) during the week of March 15. All of Fallout 3's add-on packs, including Operation: Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta, will be offered at half price (400, or $5) during the week of March 22.

Sorry, everybody who bought a Zune HD! You screwed up. It won't be a part of the XNA Game Studio 4.0 party—meaning it won't play those new mobile Xbox Live games for Windows Phone 7—unlike the Zune HD2.
It's through MIcrosoft's XNA Game Studio 4.0 that developers get access to the Xbox Live goodness, using Gamer Services APIs. And that's not in the cards for the plain old Zune HD, according to Microsoft's Klucher:
"Development for the Zune and Zune HD will continue to exist in XNA Game Studio 3.1, however, in XNA Game Studio 4.0, we're encouraging you to migrate your games over to the Windows Phone 7 Series platform."
That's where the Zune HD2 comes in, which Mary Jo Foley hears is in the pipe, and "will be similar to an iPod Touch," and could ship as early as this year. In other words, it'll presumably be a part of that "Windows Phone 7 Series platform" and run Windows Phone 7 apps.
Which is what Microsoft will need—as many devices as possible running WP7 apps to give the platform a running start, and a wide base of them that don't require carrier contracts isn't a bad idea. Like Steve Jobs once supposedly referred to the iPod touch as "training wheels for the iPhone," devices running around with Xbox Live games and Zune music, getting people hooked on the platform early, the people who aren't quite ready for a full phone (though maybe that's where the mysterious Project Pink comes in), is almost a necessity, really.
But, uh, everybody who already bought a Zune HD. Um, yeah. Sorry?

Infinity Ward has announced that the first map pack for Modern Warfare 2 will be released for Xbox 360 on 30th March.
Writing on Twitter, IW's Robert Bowling added that PC and PS3 would receive the DLC at a later date.
Microsoft has previously told Eurogamer that the first two map packs would be exclusive to Xbox Live for 30 days.
There's no word on the contents of this month's offering, but Activision has whacked up a comedy website to go with the announcement.
Yesterday Bowling said that MW2 had been played online by 25 million people.

The title launched in Europe and North America yesterday, with launch events held in London, San Francisco and Paris. The game is already being tipped as being the biggest release of Q1.

Microsoft has told CVG that the Halo: Reach Beta will feature 'never seen before' gameplay - ramping up excitement for the public opening on May 3rd.
The firm released gameplay footage earlier this month as part of what Bungie called a 'multiplayer bomb'.
However, speaking in a new interview with CVG, director of Xbox and Entertainment at Microsoft Stephen McGill said there was plenty more to be revealed:
"As you can imagine, we're really excited about Halo Reach and with the beta coming in May you'll get a chance to experience some of the new features and gameplay never seen before," he said. "Obviously I don't want to give too much away but it really is shaping up to be the ultimate game of the year."
Bungie community chief Brian Jarrard previously told CVG that what the firm showed at X10 was "the tip of the iceberg in terms of what we have planned for Halo: Reach's multiplayer capability".

MSN's Video Player has come out of a successful beta and may find the Xbox 360 a natual place to expand to.
Speaking with TechRadar, MSN's Rob Crossen talked about targeting TV audiences next.
"What we're doing here is taking MSN beyond what it has typically been known for," explained Crossen.
"An obvious place to tale MSN Video Player - given the quality of content that you are seeing on the platform - is the TV, and there are a number of ways that we could do that and in fact the challenge is prioritising so we're looking at a number of opportunities."
He continued: "There are a number of ways... widgets on internet connected TVs, we have our own products within the Microsoft network, Xbox and Windows Media Center for instance. There are a number of ways that we could choose to explore."

Electronic Arts' Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 will include support for the PlayStation motion controller - currently believed to be codenamed "Arc" - but not Microsoft's Project Natal.
The latest iteration of the franchise was unveiled at the ongoing Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and iPhone.
The game is due to be released on June 8, with the PlayStation motion controller not expected to be released until the autumn. Nevertheless, in comments made to website VG247 an EA spokesperson indicated that "timing" was the sole reason for the lack of Natal support and that it would be introduced in the next iteration.
Microsoft has promised that Project Natal, which has so far been the higher profile of the two new motion controllers, will be released before Christmas 2010.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 featured support for the Wii MotionPlus add-on, with an optional bundle including the peripheral sold in most territories. EA has already confirmed that this support will continue in this year's game.
Thanks to the use of motion controls the Wii version has become the most successful in the series in recent years, with the most recent iteration receiving particular critical praise.
The main new gameplay features for Tiger Woods 11 are the inclusion of the officially licensed Ryder Cup tournament and online team play for 24 players on the 360 and PS3.

Several snazzy supercars and one raunchy racetrack will be available for Need for Speed: Shift next Thursday, 18th March.
Stuffed in the Exotic Racing Series pack, these will cost 800 Microsoft Points (£6.80/€9.60) on Xbox Live or $10 from the PlayStation Store.
The new cars are an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, BMW M1 Procar, Gumpert Apollo, Honda NSX, McLaren MP4-12C, Maserati GranTurismo S and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss.
Swoon.
Each of these dazzling motors has had challenges crafted for them, totalling around 50 and including time trials and sprints.
The new course, Riviera, has "daring" corners, "blazing" straights and four layouts to stop you getting bored.
There are 125 extra gamerpoints on offer to those that complete every aspect of the DLC.
Need for Speed: Shift took the series onto the racetrack and off of the streets. The game launched last autumn and performed well. The next Need for Speed game will be developed by Burnout creator Criterion. Excitement abounds.

Ubisoft's bluff-based strategy game R.U.S.E. will be released on 4th June on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
The date arrives as a public PC beta test gets underway on Steam, granting access to six factions, seven maps and three multiplayer modes. Head over to Steam's R.U.S.E. page to join in.
R.U.S.E., for those who don't know, involves tricking opposing generals by using a number of pre-defined ruses. It's a clever idea, and we delved into the multiplayer side of the game this December past to see how it worked.

EA has restated its "extensive paid digital content plan" for Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
During today's Wedbush Morgan financial conference, lead money-man Eric Brown said game owners will have "multiple opportunities to spend five, 10 or 15 dollars on additional content in the next six months or so".
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was another high-profile champion of Project Ten Dollar - EA's new initiative to provide DLC codes to first-hand buyers, who can redeem them for extra content worth around $10.
Brown said 85 per cent of BFBC2 players had activated their codes.
Brown also mentioned "extensive" DLC plans for Mass Effect 2, another of EA's Project Ten Dollar games.

Codemasters has announced plans to release F1 2010 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this September.
The British publisher has also released the first two screenshots of F1 2010 in action.
F1 2010 promises to include all the official teams, drivers and circuits, including the returning Michael Schumacher and the new Korean International Circuit.
Game modes include an "extensive, innovative" Career mode, plus Grand Prix, Championship and Time Trial.
Naturally there will be competitive multiplayer as well.
As you might imagine, developer Codemasters Studios Birmingham is using Codies' fabulous EGO engine (DiRT 2, GRID).
Hamilton academic?
We're promised a "highly advanced" damage model, dynamic weather and changes to "accurately recreate the unique aerodynamics and handling of 200MPH+ Formula One cars".
Codies also boasts of "unprecedented access" to teams and drivers, but then everyone says that. I had unprecedented access to a sandwich earlier.
We're all fairly pumped about this one though, especially after Codies did such a reasonable job of F1 2009 on Wii. Expect proper impressions of F1 2010 very soon.

We just got our hands on the Windows Phone 7 during an interview at GDC, and given our unnatural obsession with bolstering our online notoriety, the most prevalent question in our mind was: just how many Gamerscore points can we crank outta this thing? The answer: A beefy 200 Gamerscore points per game, which will be added to your total Gamerscore, as displayed on your Xbox Live Gamertag profile.
We'll be writing up our impressions of the platform, as well as our interview with its creators, later today. For now, rest assured knowing that when you unlock an Achievement in a Windows Phone 7 game, it totally makes that satisfying "bloop-bloop" noise.

OXM has translated the foreign sayings in Modern Warfare 2, including some of the English military jargon - so we can finally find out what "tangosucker" actually means.
With Modern Warfare 2 spanning Brazil, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Moscow (not to mention the Russians invading the US), there's a lot of international jargon flying round.
OXM has translated the bulk of what you hear during the game, most of which understandably translates to "target destroyed", "throwing stun grenade" and the like.
But interestingly enough, there's also a small voice-acting error in Arabic that has been picked up on.

Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux has given a brief description of working with Natal for Fable III.
Speaking at GDC, Molyneux said: "Natal is wonderfully adaptive to this experience. I can't give you specifics, but it's been a real joy to put some Natal stuff in there."
The developer also announced that John Cleese will be providing the voice of the butler throughout the game.
Fable III will see you take control of a Dickensian kingdom and is set for release sometime before Christmas. Will you play the game as a good king or a 19th century Darth Vader?

EA has announced that EA Sports Active 2.0 will be released this autumn on the Wii, PlayStation 3, iPhone and iPod touch - but not the Xbox 360 or Project Natal.
The original title was released on the Wii last spring and used the standard Wii controllers, bundled accessories and, optionally, the Balance Board. The title proved a substantial hit for EA, after a heavy marketing push and even two dedicated retail stores in the US.
The third game in the series, after expansion EA Sports Active: More Workouts, will feature new leg and arm straps with motion sensors, a heart rate monitor and a new online hub to "track and share workout data".
The lack of an Xbox 360 version comes after yesterday's announcement that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 would support the Wii MotionPlus and PlayStation Move, but not Microsoft's Project Natal.
EA's only explanation for the decision has been that the "timing" of the release (Tiger Woods is due in June) made support impossible and that Natal functionally would not be implemented until next year's sequel.
EA Sports Active 2.0 is due for release this autumn, but with few other Move or Natal titles announced so far it is unclear whether this pattern of support will continue at other publishers.

DICE has revealed more of the "extensive" DLC planned for Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
Due 30th March are two new maps, Arica Harbor and Laguna Presa. More importantly, they're free to anyone who redeemed a VIP code inside a first-hand copy of BFBC2.
Arica Harbor, playable in Conquest mode, follows a US strike on a Russian base. Laguna Persa, playable in Rush mode, presents a South American valley and within it a Dam, which the US forces must protect.
"VIP members will be able to expand on the deep and ever changing sandbox experience, which in itself provides near endless hours of entertainment, by having new content to keep things fresh.
"It also plays a vital part in making sure you, the players get proper value for the money you've invested in Battlefield: Bad Company 2," wrote executive producer KM Troedsson on the Battlefield blog.
"This is why these map packs are available at no extra cost, contradicting the industry standard and what our direct competitors are doing. Of course, it also helps avoid segmenting the community, making sure everyone can play together having the same maps available.
"There will be future paid downloadable content as well but these packs will focus on expanding other parts of the game experience rather than the selection of maps available for the basic game modes. We're dedicated to taking care of this product for a long time - helping you avoid 'mapathy' without getting nickel-and-dimed," he added, in a thinly veiled reference to Infinity Ward's DLC plans for Modern Warfare 2, which are being promoted with a jokey Mapathy website. IW plans to release its "Stimulus Package" for MW2 on 30th March as well.

via Eurogamer
Peter Molyneux has told Eurogamer that he doesn't think PlayStation Move is the same kind of step forward as Microsoft's Project Natal, but admits he fancies a crack on Sony's new magic wand controller.
"I have seen some of it. We're not really surprised, are we? I mean at E3 last year we saw they were having a wand, and that's kind of what I expected. It looks like they've taken a step forward but it's not as big a step as something like Natal, I don't think," Molyneux told us in an interview at GDC.
"This is purely me talking personally, but I think maybe it's slightly more a device for the core than it is for the casual market, because I think it's quite precise.
"As a designer it's another one of those things I'd love to get my hands on and to play around with. As a consumer, everyone's talking about motion control now - I mean, I'm starting to get confused. It's kind of like the arms race, with the Wii MotionPlus and now the Sony Move and now I'm getting kind of confused."
Asked what he thinks of Move relative to Natal, Molyneux said it was "down to what us poor old designers do with this stuff, because all these guys do is make the hardware".
"Whether we utilise that hardware in a real way or whether we just take shortcuts, that's really going to be where we succeed or not."
Check out the full Eurogamer interview with Peter Molyneux at GDC 2010 for details on this week's Fable III revelations and what we can expect Molyneux to be speaking about at E3.

Rally driving game DiRT 3 has been announced by Codemasters and likely hit UK stores in 2011.
In an interview with Edge, Codemasters VP Gavin Cheshire said: “It’s all about letting the teams just innovate. There’s some great stuff coming from Birmingham that’s going into DiRT 3, and obviously you’ve seen Bodycount.â€
He also suggested the developer may focus more on the British side of rallying in the sequel to Colin McRae: DiRT 2.
“DiRT 2 is a brilliant game but it’s all American accents, so maybe we’re a little over the top with those. Maybe we should fly the flag a bit more.â€
“In DiRT 3, I’m not saying we’re throwing all the codebase away, but we’re throwing the thoughts away and coming out with something fresh and new. Because if you don’t innovate, you’re dead.â€

BioShock 2's first batch of DLC, the Sinclair Solutions pack, may have been on the game disc all along.
Users on the 2K forum (spotted by VG247) recorded the download size as a teensy 24K on PC and 108K on Xbox 360. That's what it says on the Xbox Live Marketplace page too.
Developer 2K Marin would need something akin to a miracle to squash all of the Sinclair Solutions content - two new playable characters, 20 new trials, a third weapon upgrade for each weapon, five additional masks, rank upgrade to 50 - into such tiny files.
2K Games is avoiding comment at the moment, which suggests that a more measured and senior statement be needed.

3D Dot Game Heroes is only a PlayStation 3 game. OK, why? I brought the question to Takehiko Terada, President and CEO of Silicon Studios, the developer of 3D Dot Game Heroes.
“If people are waiting for an Xbox 360 version it’s not going to happen,†Terada explained to Siliconera in an interview. “It’s not a problem with technology, it’s the strategy of the publisher.†From Software published 3D Dot Game Heroes in Japan. Atlus is publishing it in North America and have said in a press fact sheet that 3D Dot Game Heroes will be a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Silicon Studio’s middleware and tools that developed the game are designed for multiple platforms, namely PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

At the big Final Fantasy XIII launch at the HMV store in London, fans show their disapproval of the prospect of winning a free Xbox 360 bundle. Really guys?
Gary from The Koalition was on hand at the big London Final Fantasy launch, where hardcore Final Fantasy fans nearly booed presenter Alex Zane off the stage as he announced a prize that, in my opinion at least, anyone would be happy to receive.
Is a multi-platform Final Fantasy really that bad?
I mean hell, Square Enix has been working on the game for what, five years? When you put that much time, effort, and money into one game, you have every right to release it on as many platforms as humanly possible. I suppose you have the right to boo the company's decision, but treating it as some sort of betrayal is just silly.

In a video answering fan questions, Splinter Cell Conviction Creative Director Maxime Béland revealed the existence of a demo for the highly anticipated sneaking-guy game. "Yes, there will be one. I can't tell you what map or when it's going to be released yet. My lips are sealed." Warning us in advance of the demo's release date would run counter to the whole 'stealth' theme, we suppose.
We first heard of a demo for Conviction from an Ubi employee known only as "Adam," and before that had only a guess that there would be one based on the common-sense fact that it's a really popular game. Splinter Cell: Conviction is currently due for release April 13.

An early listing of the Modern Warfare 2 "Stimulus Package" on the Xbox Live Marketplace web site reveals it is comprised of five maps, two of them old favorites from the first Modern Warfare.
The Stimulus Package isn't due out until March 30 on the Xbox 360 (dates for the PC and PS3 versions are still TBA). Here's the description from its Xbox Live listing, which was live as of 3 p.m. U.S. Mountain Time.
The best-selling Xbox 360 game of all-time just got bigger, with more epic multiplayer content, first on Xbox LIVE! The Stimulus Package delivers 5 additional action-packed multiplayer maps featuring a variety of locations: "Bailout," a multi-level apartment complex; "Storm," an open industrial park littered with heavy machinery; "Salvage," a snowy junkyard fortified by stacked debris and crushed cars. Two legendary fan-favorites from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare return, including "Crash," [pictured above] a war-torn urban environment; and "Overgrown," which features a massive dry creek bed. There are no refunds for this item. For more information, see www.xbox.com/live/accounts.
It'll weigh in at 328 MB. No word on pricing yet, and you can't queue it up for download, either. It asks you for a redeem code.

Rab released GOD2XB1, so Xbox 1 GOD support is now possible:
This trivial tool will make these modifications to the god package until the new iso2god.
All it does is change that one byte and then rehash the file for you (simplifying these 2 steps):
- Open the CON stub and change the byte at offset 0x346 from 0x70 to 0x50.
- Calculate the SHA-1 hash from offset 0x344 to 0xAFFF (you should be hashing 0xACBC bytes of data) and write the hash value at offset 0x32C.

While Ubisoft has the Might and Magic series, internally developed RPGs are rare. So this bit of news may surprise you, Ubisoft appears to be working on a HD role playing game.
The news comes from a LinkedIn profile leak where a Lead Level Designer mentions a “RPG title†for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Recently, Ubisoft announced Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes for both platforms. Since Capybara Games, the same studio behind the DS game is developing high definition version, this game appears to be something else, but what?
An Assassin’s Creed RPG? Rayman RPG? Imagine RPG?

Metro 2033 has pushed Xbox 360 graphical standards in a way that hasn't been "done before", according to THQ's head of communications Huw Beynon.
"The 4A Engine is a fabulous piece of tech," Beynon told VG247, "and you'll see Metro 2033 doing things on the 360 that you haven't seen done before. Personally, I think it looks incredible. But take a look, judge for yourself."
"PC is a another level again," he added. "I think we scared a few people when we suggested our Optimum specs, but Optimum means exactly that - the very best set-up for the very best quality and performance."
"Metro will run well and look great at the minimum spec, let alone Recommended which is well within the reach of serious PC gamers. Then there's 3D Vision implemented - Metro is currently NVIDIA's poster child for their 3D tech, if you get the chance to see it you really should."

Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg has claimed that Xbox 360 has "nearly twice" PS3's installed base - partly because its lack of a Blu-Ray drive allows it to be sold at a more attractive price point.
The Xbox product director claimed that "being $100 cheaper [than PS3] is part of the reason we're nearly twice their installed base".
It's likely Greenberg was referring to Xbox 360's North American installed base, with 360 and PS3 widely reported to be neck-and-neck in Europe.
"Sony bet on the physical disc, and there are costs associated with that," Greenberg told Edge magazine.
"The fact that we're able to offer a console starting at $199 is a benefit of not being burdened with that cost."
He added: "For us, our bet was on digital distribution, that was the future - the ability to [play] 1080p movies with no disc, no download required; we have the largest movie and TV library, the largest HD library of any console."
His comments come after Microsoft's director of Xbox and Entertainment Stephen McGill told CVG the firm had "no plans" to adopt Blu-Ray drives into 360.
Greenberg claimed that 360 had more exclusives than PS3 last month in an interview with CVG.

New downloadable content for Take-Two's BioShock 2 was already on the game's disc, according to accusations from fans.
The Sinclair Solutions pack was released on Thursday, March 11 and includes two new playable characters, 20 new trials, new upgrades for weapons and an increase of the level cap to 50. The pack is priced at 400 Microsoft Points (£3.40/$5.00).
Fans on the official 2K Forum message board noticed that the download was only 24K in size on the PC and 108K on Xbox 360, implying that the content was already finished and stored on the game disc.
A comment from forum community manager "Elizabeth" tacitly admits that the download was already on the disc, claiming that this was to ensure there was no split in the userbase for the game's multiplayer mode.
Although no formal comment has been made by senior Take-Two staff Elizabeth continued: "I know some of you have strong beliefs about DLC, and I'm not here to sway your opinion or convince you to buy our stuff - if you like what we're offering, I hope you get it and enjoy it. If it's not your speed, enjoy BioShock 2 as we released it."
Charging for content that already exists on a game's disc has proven consistently controversial with fans, with Capcom becoming embroiled in similar user revolts over its Versus mode downloadable content for Resident Evil 5.

Microsoft has patented a new system of purchasing downloadable content via an automatic prompt, which attempts to ensure all players in the game have the same updates.
Discovered by website Broke My Controller, the "automated directed transaction and delivery system for digital content" (ATDDC) is designed to automatically detect if a player has not installed a particular component necessary to take part in an online game.
Once the content, such as a map or character download, is detected a prompt to the user is automatically generated. This allows them to purchase the extra content and automatically download and install it while remaining in contact with the other players.
The patent application uses a racing game in its example, describing a situation where a game host has a downloadable circuit which another player does not. Rather than having to exit the game and visit the Xbox Live Marketplace the ATDDC system would allow them to purchase and install the content immediately.
As with any patent there is no guarantee that Microsoft will implement the system, although it does have obvious potential for increasing sales of downloadable content.

An editorial at Eurogamer delves into what Sony and Microsoft hope to achieve with their upcoming console motion control systems, despite entering the market several years after Nintendo set the standard. "The cards Sony has placed on the table this week suggest one answer to that question. It sees PlayStation Move as being an upgrade path for Wii owners — an invitation to the tens of millions of consumers who have invested in Nintendo's platform to swim upstream to the more powerful, HD-enabled system. Yet even Sony's most optimistic view of the market will be tempered by a dose of realism here. ... What's more likely — and what Sony are probably quietly hoping to achieve a significant proportion of the Move's success through — is that the technology will expand the appeal of the PS3 in the family setting." The Digital Foundry blog has an in-depth look at the PlayStation Move from Sony's event at the Game Developers Conference, saying, "... if there was one positive you could take away from the event, it was that Move is clearly a far more precise implementation than the Wiimote. Some of the games felt clearly more 'tactile' than the Wii equivalents."

Microsoft has announced a 9th July 2010 release date for Crackdown 2.
Xbox community manager Graeme Boyd revealed the date on Twitter moments ago.
"Listen up Agents! We've just announced the Crackdown 2 release date as July 9, 2010. Prepare yourself," Tweeted Boyd, aka AceyBongos
His next Tweet pointed to a new Crackdown 2 developer diary, titled "Fun With Friends".
Crackdown 2 introduces super-powered enemies and four-player co-op to the crime-busting Xbox 360 series that not so much turned heads as span them around like basketballs in early 2007.
The last we saw of the sequel and wrote about was in November 2009.

New research has shown that nearly a quarter of Xbox 360 owners earn less than 10 per cent of a game's Achievements, and that only four per cent seek out every reward.
EEDAR's Jesse Divnich, speaking at GDC (reported by GamesIndustry.biz), said 27 per cent of people earn half of a game's Achievements, but less than 10 per cent of people attain 80 per cent of the Achievements or more.
"Does this mean Achievements are too hard?" pondered Divnich, who did see a correlation between higher-scoring games and Achievements earned.
EEDAR (Electronic Entertainment Design and Research) analysed 32 million data points provided by Microsoft. From that, 100 games were selected at random and conclusions made.
EEDAR also offered some other interesting statistics, such as that the RPG genre turned out the most new IP - 40 per cent, to be precise.
Among the publishers endeavouring to create new brands was EA, deemed to be the third-highest new IP producer on PS3 and 360.
And, despite the worldwide recession, the amount of new IP has risen from 16 per cent in 2006 to 22 per cent in 2009.

Mark Rein has said that Epic Games is free to do what it likes with Gears of War.
"We own Gears of War. We can do what we want with it," Rein, who is vice president of Epic, told VG247.
"We have a great relationship with Microsoft, and they helped turn the game into a huge success for us, and we are pretty happy with the way things are going."
Gears of War has only appeared on PC and Xbox 360 up to now. One assumes Epic's working on Gears of War 3. Bloody well better be - I must know what the deal is with Marcus's dad!

If you've been holding out on buying an Xbox 360 for the last five years you live in Canada, you'll be totally psyched to hear that the Arcade bundle of Microsoft's console is currently on sale in for $130.
The Xbox Canada site lists the price drop for both Futureshop and Best Buy, though we also found it over at Amazon Canada and GameStop Canada. Get 'em while you can! We've followed up with Microsoft to clarify whether or not this is a permanent change for our Canadian friends, and, of course, if we'll be seeing a similar sale/price drop in the US.

Epic's Cliff Bleszinski has said he finds motion controllers "very interesting" but favours those like Natal which don't rely on any hand-held controller.
"I find motion control to be very interesting, very compelling," he told IGN. "The ones that I personally like the most are the ones that are more natal-like; that don't have yet another plastic controller sitting underneath my coffee table cluttering everything up. That I can just fire it up and do very cool movements and have interesting results."
He continued: "As a side note, the kind of game that I think will be the most interesting will be something that's a hybrid."
"Maybe it's something where I'm playing the game with a controller and your significant other can sit there on the sofa and do gesture based things... So that you bring the hardcore and the casual together in a compelling fashion

[TheTwoJ] and his friend built a laptop-form-factor Xbox 360. Their extensively documented process was inspired by [Ben Heckendorn's] work. The result is a brick when folded up but a good-looking (albeit loud with 8 fans) gaming rig. There’s everything you would expect; LCD screen, integrated WiFi, camera, optical drive, and a full keyboard. These poor saps seem to have spent a portion of their student loan on the build but we understand how easy it is to let your budget get out of hand. They’re trying to recoup through eBay auction.
Take a look at the walk through after the break. If you’ve got the spare dough, you can try your hand at this with our three part series on building an Xbox 360 laptop.

Remedy's Matias Myllyrinne has confirmed that multiple Alan Wake instalments are on the way this year.
"I think it'll depend a lot on the audience, but certainly we want to - if we're successful - we want to do a large 'Season 2,' if you will, at some point," he told Joystiq.
"Right now, I'm not allowed to say what we're doing exactly this year. But we're going to have more than one episode come out this year."
As reported earlier this year, Alan Wake will be "story-driven like a TV series", according to Microsoft's Robbie Bach, and told in downloadable episodes.
"Imagine the TV show Lost as written by Stephen King and filmed by David Lynch and you have Alan Wake," he said. We'd rather have the TV show Glee as written by J. Michael Straczynski and filmed by Jerry Bruckheimer, but there you are.

Bungie's filed a new trademark to secure the name Marathon for a videogame.
Marathon, remember, was Bungie's game for Mac from a million years ago. There's no other evidence of a remake, but the name alone should start people talking.
Marathon: Durandal - a bit like Doom but with colour - was ported to Xbox Live Arcade in August 2007. It wasn't as good as Halo.
Bungie is currently hard at work on new game Halo: Reach, which will be released this autumn.

With more details about the gaming aspects of Windows Phone 7 Series announced at Microsoft's MIX conference this week, Microsoft is building up a head of steam with mobile developers.
However, it seems there's one unpleasant surprise in store: multiplayer features for WinPho 7 games will be restricted to turn-based, rather than real-time.
No over-the-network deathmatching for players, in other words.
According to IGN Wireless, this is partly because Microsoft is keen to encourage developers to make games that run across mobile, Xbox 360 and PC - but mobile users may be disadvantaged in real-time games by their less predictable network quality.
The danger for Microsoft is that there are an increasing number of real-time multiplayer games available for rival platforms - particularly iPhone - which seem to work pretty well (albeit without trying to factor in consoles and PCs).
The restrictions may prevent those games coming to Windows Phone 7 Series, although this isn't to suggest that you can't do exciting stuff with turn-based games too. Witness the rise of social games...

Cricket, F1 and new shooter Bodycount front "next wave' of titles from Britsoft firm
Codemasters has revealed to MCV that it is working on a new cricket game, which will be released before the end of the year.
The announcement follows the recent reveals of F1 2010 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in September and brand new FPS Bodycount, which is due to hit shelves in Q1 2011.
“Following last year’s success of Ashes 2009, we are not resting on our cricketing laurels," UK general manager Jeremy Wigmore stated.
"We’ll soon be talking about the evolution of our cricket series, which will make a triumphant return later this year.
"This, added to the announcements of F1 2010 and Bodycount herald the next wave of titles created by Codemasters Studios."

A new Battlefield: Bad Company 2 viral video has poked fun at genre leader Modern Warfare 2.
Infinity Ward released a Friends Against Grenade Spam (***S) viral in November 2009. It was swiftly pulled down amid internet backlash.
EA couldn't resist, and has shot a similar public service announcement-style clip (spotted by VG247), "Brought to you by Friends Really Against Grenade Spam."
The video stars CC Sabathia, who's a pitcher for the New York Yankees baseball team.
"I'm here today to talk to you about a random problem affecting all of us: random grenades," he says.
Behind him, a soldier tosses a grenade at a tree. Sabathia confronts him and is told that the soldier thought if he threw enough of "these here hand-bombs" then he was bound to get "a kill or two".
Sabathia puts him straight, telling him that in BFBC2 "grenade span isn't going to prove quite as effective as one might find in competing games of this particular genre".
The soldier doesn't listen and commandeers the camera, only to be shot to pieces by CC in an attack helicopter moments later.
"So remember, everybody - stay away from random grenades and stay safe, the CC way," he says, and flies off into the sunset.

EA has announced a 14th May release date for Skate 3 in the UK.
The game's in development at Black Box for PS3 and Xbox 360.
Skate 3 aims to bring friends together online in teams. Jason DeLang, senior producer, reckons this will be "the most connected, accessible and social skateboarding experience yet". But then he would say that.
Another interesting addition is the Skate.Park editor, which allows you to make and share skate parks as well as videos and photos.
And on top of all that there will be more areas to skate in and more people to skate as than ever. Funnily enough, there's no Tony Hawk on the roster. Eric Koston's there, though, as is Jason Lee as Coach Frank.

Square Enix has sent word that Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will be released on 27th August.
IO's sequel - in development for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 - follows the two eponymous criminals through "48 hours of hell".
There's an emphasis on a new documentary-style presentation, plus fresh multiplayer modes Undercover Cop, Cops & Robbers and Arcade. Fragile Alliance will return for K&L 1.
"We believe the unique visuals and relentless gameplay has created an intensity never delivered in a videogame before," said Niels Jørgensen, boss of IO. "In a genre where so many games look and feel the same, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will make people double-take. We think it's going to make quite an impression."

Been to the gym lately? If not, then let this be your new motivation. What we're looking at here is a purportedly forthcoming Xbox 360 motherboard redesign that takes aim at slimming down the portly figure of Microsoft's console. Sure, there's a small chance that this diet could be the work of a scarily talented console modder, but it'd still be a near-impossible task to work in what appears to be a CPU / GPU combo chip (pictured after the break) under that greatly reduced heatsink. Note that there's also an extra SATA port at the top left corner. Perhaps this is the "Valhalla" revision that we've all been waiting for? On a related note, Microsoft is currently hiring a Motherboard Design Engineer for the Xbox 360 Console Development team, with such saucy tasks as "specifying, designing, implementing and verifying the mother-board and other various sub-system boards that make up the XBOX 360 product line." Feel free to sign up if you think you can hack out a better motherboard.

Nothing derails the excitement of playing games online with your friends quite like finding out that you don't have a certain piece of DLC required to join their game. The USPTO recently approved a Microsoft patent application (filed way back in August 2008) for a system that would enable users to seamlessly purchase and download game add-ons from the Xbox Live Marketplace when alerted by an in-game prompt, provided the content was required for a particular online game they attempted to launch.
The process would allow you to make purchases without being forced out of a game lobby you might be sharing with friends -- though, really, what kind of "friends" wouldn't warn you about your game's newfound incompatibility before inviting you in? Inconsiderate friends, that's who.

via Joystiq
Documentation obtained by Joystiq – and subsequently confirmed with two separate sources – reveals that "USB Mass Storage Device Support on Xbox 360" will soon be a reality. The document, authored by a senior software development engineer at Microsoft, states that due to "increased market penetration of high-capacity, high throughput USB mass storage devices, a 2010 Xbox 360 system update" will allow consumers to save and load game data from USB devices. The update is purportedly coming in Spring 2010.
Once the update occurs, Xbox 360 owners will be able to download Xbox Live Arcade games, Xbox Live Indie games, Games on Demand, DLC and Title Updates to the storage device. "USB storage devices may, however, have far greater memory capacity than MUs (at the date of writing, the largest MU is 512 MB), and may therefore support previously infeasible operations-such as installation of a full disc-based title." That's right, you can also store disc-based games to the USB device; however, it will require the disc to be in the tray for authentication, identical to the current functionality.
According to the document, the USB mass storage device must be at least 1GB and the system will do a compatibility check. "The system partition occupies 512 MB of space, and by default the consumer partition occupies the remainder of the device capacity, or 16 GB, whichever is smaller." Upon inserting a blank USB storage device, "consumers are offered two choices: 'Configure now' or 'Customize'." The "Configure now" option will use "the entire device capacity, up to the maximum of 512 MB plus 16 GB" meaning, regardless of the overall size of the device you're using, the Xbox will only enable 16 GB of usable, non-system storage. The "Customize" option will allow you to "preserve some pre-existing, non-console data on the device" such as music.
It should be clear by now that Microsoft is simply pulling out of the Memory Unit business and not the highly lucrative Xbox hard drive business. With an artificial cap of 16 GB – still shy of the 20 GB hard drive that shipped with the original 2005 Xbox Pro and a fraction the size of the currently shipping 120 GB hard drive – USB storage support simply removes the onerous requirement for a Memory Unit on Xbox 360 Arcade units, and brings the Xbox 360 platform a feature that's been present on the PlayStation 3 since that console's 2006 launch.
If you're intent on circumventing Microsoft's cutthroat hard drive pricing the Xbox 360, you can use two USB storage devices for a maximum of 32 GB of usable storage; however, the console "has a fixed limit of two external USB mass storage devices" regardless of whether they're "formatted for the Xbox 360 or not." If you fill all three USB ports on the console, only the first two to be connected will be recognized.
With talk of a new (slim?) form factor for the Xbox 360 picking up, and plans to abandon (or at least obviate) Memory Units underway, we're guessing those Memory Unit slots could be cut entirely from future iterations of the console.

The CK3 Probe Add-on for the Xecuter Connectivity Kit 3 (Lite or Pro) is a tool that makes the process of extracting a key from a Lite-On drive totally solderless, without this tool the user would have to bridge the TX and RX points on the drive board with a soldering iron before they could use the CK3 to read from the drive. This tool is for those people that have never soldered before, but know how to flash and don’t want to risk using a cheap iron on their drive and make a mistake, or also for tech guys in a hurry this tool makes the process just that little bit faster.
The CK3 Probe is extremely simple to use and there are excellent step by step tutorials on the Team-Xecuter website. There are two LED's which indicate power to the CK3 Probe and also a successfull connection to the TX point on the Lite-On drive. The package includes the CK3 Probe and the cable that will connect it to the CK3 Lite or Pro

The acclaimed videogame studio Mobile Pie (developers of Oh, My Word! and B-Boy Beats ) today announced they will be publishing David Mile’s Deception Wars for Xbox LIVE Indie Games.
The title, created in Microsoft’s XNA, won the Judge’s Award at this year’s Bristol Global Game Jam, beating a handful of other titles to the accolade.
Mobile Pie’s Creative Producer Will Luton said:
“As soon as David pitched the title I knew we had a winner and what he created within 48 hours was simply breathtaking. He’s clearly a future star of the indie scene!â€
The game, a mixture of Geometry Wars and the backstabbing party game Mafia (aka Werewolf), features up to 8 players blasting and deceiving each other.
Luton added:
“Most of the game happens off screen. Someone will blast you and you’ll throw the pad down and scream at the *@&% knowing you’ve just been double-crossed. If it doesn’t get you cursing and laughing you’re probably clinically dead!â€
Mobile Pie have been working very closely with Miles on giving the title a very retro vibe, both in terms of the classic EGA visuals and dual-stick shooter mechanic.
Miles said:
“I’m really keen to see what people make of the new game play ideas Deception Wars brings to the Xbox 360, and working with Mobile Pie is really helping to bring it to the next level.â€
Deception Wars will be available via Xbox LIVE Indie Games in Summer 2010.

Images of the motherboard for a possible new Xbox 360 hardware version have emerged online, with speculation that it may be intended to coincidence with the launch of Project Natal.
As with many such leaks, such as early glimpses of the PlayStation 3 Slim, the images originate from China. The photos only picture the motherboard and internal components of the supposed console, but based on their size they suggest a console roughly a third smaller than current models.
The technical experts at Digital Foundry, part of sister site Eurogamer, have analysed the images in detail and identified what appears to be a new integrated Xenon and Xenos CPU/GPU processor.
The images do not make it clear whether the hardware is using a 45nm fabrication process but generally speaking a smaller motherboard should mean a more power-efficient, cheaper and more reliable hardware.
In Digital Foundry's opinion the images are likely to be genuine, suggesting a smaller console which Microsoft will be able to produce cheaply enough to sell at a reduced price.
The most obvious hypothesis is that the new console will be launched alongside Project Natal this Christmas, perhaps in a bundle that will allow Microsoft to maintain similar prices to the current models but with the addition of the Natal motion sensing camera.

Rumours suggest that Microsoft may be planning a new firmware update that would allow external USB hard drives to be used with the Xbox 360.
The rumours began with website Joystiq, which claims to have received Microsoft documentation describing the new feature, having subsequently confirmed the details with other unnamed sources.
The document purports to have been authored by a senior software development engineer at Microsoft and states that due to "increased market penetration of high-capacity, high throughput USB mass storage devices, a 2010 Xbox 360 system update" will allow users to use USB devices for storage via an update due in spring 2010.
The update will allegedly allow users to download games, downloadable content and patches onto the device, just as they would for the 360's bespoke hard drives or memory units (MUs).
"USB storage devices may, however, have far greater memory capacity than MUs," states the document. "And may therefore support previously infeasible operations such as installation of a full disc-based title."
However, the documentation indicates that whatever the size of the USB device it would have its maximum useable storage capacity capped at 16GB.
If true this would presumably be an attempt to ensure that sales of Microsoft's highly profitable 360 hard drives are not adversely affected, even as the USB support removes the need for existing MUs.

Often dismissed as a failed venture, the Xbox Indie Games programme has earned successful man-and-his-dog developers tens of thousands of pounds from sales of their homebrew games. Wired explores the success stories of this hidden marketplace. ... now, more than a year since its launch, the Xbox Indie Games are seeing something of a revival. Microsoft has made huge strides to improve the service, games are beginning to be taken more seriously and success stories are becoming more and more common. Especially for [James] Silva, a New York-based developer, who became an impromptu Indie celebrity after his game The Dishwasher won Microsoft's Dream-Build-Play competition. He says he's 'absolutely thrilled' to have seen I Maed a Gam3 w1th Zomb1es!!!1 — his latest game — become a cult hit, for gamers to flock to it in record numbers and to have sold over 200,000 copies.

Some advice for any Xbox 360 owners thinking ahead to the launch of Microsoft's Project Natal later this year: You might want to see if you'll need to reconfigure your living room. After all, the motion-sensing control system is no sit-on-the-couch experience. You'll need some space to move your body and swing your arms without banging into the coffee table.
To be precise, you'll want to clear an area extending at least 4 meters (a little more than 13 feet) away from the television. That's the back edge of the space to be taken into account by the Natal sensors. In terms of width and height, the field of vision naturally expands as it moves from the Natal device to that back edge, ending up a little more than 4 meters wide and 2.7 meters high (about 8 feet, 10 inches).
Those were among the tidbits passed along by representatives of the Natal team during a briefing for a group of reporters and bloggers Monday on the company's Redmond campus. The session was part of a day-long technology discussion held by Craig Mundie, the company's chief research and strategy officer.
Natal, announced last year at the E3 video-game convention, is due out by the holidays. It's Microsoft's effort to bring its own "natural user interface" to the Xbox 360. It differs from Nintendo's Wii and Sony's upcoming Motion Controller, in that the camera system senses movement without requiring the gamer to hold a controller. (However, one of the details that emerged from the session is that controllers and accessories can be used in conjunction with moving around to add even more elements of control to games.)
During the Monday session, we quizzed Don Mattrick, who heads the company's video-game business as its senior vice president of interactive entertainment. Mattrick said the response from consumers in testing of Project Natal has been "off the charts." Mattrick said he's excited about the types of experiences that game developers are creating with the system, declining to go into details. He noted that Natal is also getting interest from the broader entertainment industry, citing as an example Steven Spielberg's early endorsement.
The session included lots of technical details on the Natal device, including its three sensors for measuring the depth of the room, capturing the gamer's movement and ensuring adequate light. The machine-learning system can also tell where parts of your body should be even if they aren't visible to the camera, such as an arm tucked behind your back. (Technical phrase: "Extremity occlusion resilient.")
The Natal team says the device requires less in the way of processing than the average smartphone, because they wanted to leave as much processing as possible available to the game itself.
As for the price? Mattrick wouldn't say, but he predicted that it won't be as much as consumers who have tested the device might expect, given the amount of fun they say they're having. Microsoft has created the Natal device with off-the-shelf components, which has the effect of keeping costs down and positioning the company to take advantage of broader industry advances in vision technology and sensors.
"We're going to drive the business, and make it scale, and make it profitable," Mattrick said.

Project Natal may not be in shops yet, but creator Microsoft is already thinking about "a second version".
Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald (spotted by VG247), Hsiao-Wuen Hon - managing director at MS Research Asia - said investing heavily in research allowed flexibility to look towards and plan for the future this far in advance.
"And when we do invent something first like the Natal kind of scenario, while we have a researcher working with the product group for the first version, we already have a researcher thinking about the second version down the road so we certainly hope we will continue to be holding that technology," he said. "I really love what Microsoft is doing."
Project Natal will be available for Xbox 360 this autumn. All we know about Microsoft's motion-sensor is on the gamepage below.

EA intends to release large, paid-for demos in an effort to measure a game's popularity before release. If enough copies are sold then the publisher will confidently produce full-scale boxed products for shops.
That's what analyst-supreme Michael Pachter said he was told by Visceral boss Nick Earl last week.
"Mr. Earl revealed a strategy to release premium downloadable content (PDLC) as a product for sale prior to the release of a packaged product," Pachter, who keeps an eye on the games industry for Wedbush Morgan, wrote in a note to investors (reported by GamesIndustry.biz).
"The PDLC [premium downloadable content] would be sold for $10 or $15 through Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, and would essentially be a very long game demo, along the lines of 2009's Battlefield 1943. A full-blown packaged game would follow shortly after the release of the PDLC, bearing a full retail price.
"Mr. Earl believes that the release of the PDLC first limits the risk of completing and marketing the full packaged version, and serves as a low-cost marketing tool," he added.
Pachter then explained to GamesIndustry.biz that these large, paid-for demos would manifest as a short version of a game, although he wasn't sure how this would be included in the boxed product.
"Think about Battlefield 1943 as the prototype," he said, "so a full (but short) game experience for a reasonable price. At the same time, an expanded version of the game will be under development for release as a packaged product.
"The idea is that if the PDLC gets favourable reviews, it will build word of mouth for the boxed product. If the PDLC has issues, they can tweak the packaged product to address those issues, improving the final product before release.
"It actually sounds like a great strategy," he added. "Again, I don't know if they intend to include the PDLC in the packaged product, but my guess is that they won't. I think that the PDLC will be a 'prequel' to the full game, so that they can keep selling it after release of the full game."

Nintendo users will also enjoy an exclusive firearm peripheral, the Hunting Controller, which rests against the shoulder like a rifle and allows for more accurate shooting.

Microsoft has issued a clarification explaining that Natal is not dependant on the size of gamers' rooms to work properly - following reports that at least 13 feet of clear space was required.
"The comments recently about the play space for Project Natal were misinterpreted," the software giant explained in a statement. "It is true that the Project Natal sensor reads the configuration of your room and adjusts play space, as appropriate."
"We know that living rooms come in all shapes and sizes, and have conducted numerous play tests to ensure everyone will be able to jump off the couch and into the fun when Project Natal launches globally this holiday."
Earlier this week, Microsoft exec. Hsiao-Wuen Hon let slip that the company is already at work on a sequel to Project Natal.

Hello!
First post on here
Basically, my friends xbox got rrod and he asked to take a look at it, so i did the usual thermal compound fix etc. Worked for <2 hours and then gave up again.
So, i got it back and decided to take a closer look. Firstly i noticed that the bottom of the DVD drive was 'stained' black with heat, if i rubbed the colouring it wouldn't move. This obviously was a major problem if the heat had damaged the metal on the metal DVD drive case, it was clearly getting really hot to burn that.
It seemed they sacrificed the heatsink on the GPU to make room for the DVD drive. This sucks and causes errors.
What i did was
a) Screw a fan into the GPU heatsink.
b) replace the tiny sata cable with a longer one.
c) modify the fan plastic so it fit together again.
d) cut a hole in the top of the xbox to further help with heat and another for the DVD drive cables.
e) check the console with a >2 hour session on HL2 - worked FINE.
f) place the top case on and screw into position.
g) install the dvd drive by screwing it into place. One of the holes on the top of the xbox was fine for this purpose and i made the other - i screwed it into place by sacrificing 2 case screws.
h) Put together and test!
it worked fine. even the eject button. It hasnt given him any problems since.
This will fix your xbox RRoD (for good, i think) but however you'll have to make your drive external.

After several months of silent running, digital toy boutique Denki has revealed the first footage of Quarrel, its highly anticipated new game.
You can find it on YouTube by subscribing to and following ‘denkigames’, or by visiting: http://www.youtube.com/denkigames
Quarrel is designed for Xbox Live Arcade, and the company is hinting obliquely at other more ‘breathtaking’ plans.
Denki took Quarrel busking last year and encouraged hundreds of people – from families, tourists and gamers, through to competitive strategy gamers and Scrabble players – to play the game to near universal acclaim. The feedback from these sessions was collated, considered and then Denki decided to make the game even more awesome.
Quarrel now includes the following embellishments:
- “More ways to play†- There are now THREE entirely new games modes for you (providing hours and hours of honest-to-goodness fun).
- “More platforms†- Surely. Though Denki are remaining tight-lipped on what these may be.
- “More characters, troops, maps, music and words†- Yes, no, there’s loads already, si senor and we have the best dictionary in there already.
- “More cowbell†- Ha ha. Xylophone, yes; cowbell, not so much.
- “Less timer†- Sorted.
Yes, Denki has revisited, revised and revamped the game. It now features a completely new single-player experience. The master funmakers have tinkered with and tweaked every aspect of the game to make it fast, fluid, fun and generally just spent the last few months turning the game into an even shinier example of lovely.

The new 250GB Xbox 360 hard drive will cost £64.99 here and not £79.99 as once thought.
That's according to Xbox Community Manager Graeme Boyd, who also revealed that a data transfer kit will be bundled with the new drive, allowing content to migrate from old to new.
"You probably saw the announce of the 250GB Xbox HDD, but just to confirm: It is coming to UK/Europe, RRP is £64.99/99.99 Euro," Tweeted Boyd, aka AceyBongos.
"Lower the pitchforks and douse the torches - the 250GB does come with a data transfer kit. Sorry for the confusion," he chirped.
The 250GB Xbox 360 hard drive will sell from 16th April in the UK.
Before then, Microsoft will lower the price of existing 120GB HDD drive to £80. Yes, that's more expensive than 250GB drive that arrives in under a month. We're checking 'why'.
Update
Actually MS is saying £64.99 was a mistake, It really is £80

Know what happened to the game Doom II that was supposed to come out on Xbox LIVE Arcade late last year? Is it still coming to Xbox LIVE? Any new info on a release date perhaps?
We don't always have the answers, but we reached out to Bethesda -- who we correctly assumed would be publishing the port of id Software's classic first-person shooter -- to find out.
"It’s still in the cards," Pete Hines, VP of Public Relations and Marketing, told us today. "Just can’t give you a date just yet when it will be out."
So there you have it -- hell on Earth is still making its way to Xbox LIVE Arcade, Jim. We're just not exactly sure when.

No big surprise here, but Microsoft is bringing its full Project Natal setup to the E3 games show in LA this year, with a "world premiere" event on Sunday, June 13th, followed by a media briefing on Monday the 14th. It's good to know they're on track for showing this off, after a no-show at the PlayStation Move-dominated GDC, and we'll of course be there in force, waving our arms around like we just don't care. From the looks of our invite, which puts the name "Project Natal" in quotes, we're not convinced that's even the final name for the device, but we suppose we'll find out for sure in June. Microsoft promises this will be our "first look at the future of fun," and we imagine some near-final hardware and beta game experiences will be on display as well. No word in the invite, but we imagine a Fall launch is still in the cards, with Jonathan Ross's "October" tweet as the most recent morsel on that front.

Atomic Games, a developer of simulations for US military and intelligence agencies and a pioneer in military action games, announced Breachâ„¢ today. Breach is a first-person multiplayer shooter that literally blows the floor out from under conventional military shooters. Breach introduces new kinds of destruction that haven't been seen in any other game, unveils an Active Cover System which allows players to take advantage of any cover as it is ripped apart, and adds in unique, true-to-life spy gadgets which all changes the very nature of multiplayer combat.
Breach uses Atomic's innovative Hydrogenâ„¢ Engine to give players inventive ways to use destruction so they can stun, manipulate, and eliminate their opponents with a new toolbox of tactics. For the first time, virtual warriors can punch holes through floors to get the drop on enemies below, breach both interior and exterior walls, crush enemy fighters by collapsing ceilings and balconies, and even shoot away individual bricks to create "shooter's holes." Breach is the first game to mix Atomic's ground-breaking Active Cover System, which lets players attach instantly to cover, quickly pop in and out of cover, and peak and blind-fire from behind cover, with an environment in which virtually anything that can be used for cover can also be destroyed. As walls get eaten away from bullets and explosions, characters will be able to use the new openings to return fire without leaving the protection of remaining cover.
Players will take on the roles of some of the most elite field operatives in the US. CIA Special Activities Division officers are the teams sent in on real-life black operations when no one can ever know the US was involved. Atomic is using expertise it developed creating training systems for the world's leading military and intelligence organizations to bring the secret world of black operations to life with accurate weapons, gear, and real-life spy gadgets which virtual operators can use with real world tactics to defeat the enemy.
Breach also aims to disrupt the way video games are priced and purchased. Breach can be downloaded through the Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. On this platform, Breach offers the kinds of innovation and features expected in a full packaged game.
Breach will be available this Summer and it does not yet have a rating by the ESRB. Initial intelligence and can be found at www.breachgame.com.

Support for USB memory storage on the Xbox 360 will go live on April 6 courtesy of a system update.
After patching, flash drives will be able to store profiles, demos, game saves and full games, according to Larry Hryb, who also said that two drives can be plugged in to the console at once, with maximum storage of 16GB each.
"USB Hard drives may work, but like flash memory, you’ll only be able to use up to 16GB of space," he wrote on the official Microsoft blog.
"Since performance on flash based USB storage is usually better, I highly recommend using flash based instead of spinning media like a hard drive…it’s just going to give you a much better experience."
Although third-party storage devices can be used, Microsoft will also partner with SanDisk for an official 360 branded USB flash drive, to be released in May..

Microsoft is preparing a Project Natal marketing push in June, promising a "World Premier" event to show off the motion control system on the Sunday before E3.
Held at the 10,000 capacity Galen Centre in LA, the event is to showcase the wide-ranging appeal of Natal, and will be followed on Monday by an official press conference.
"We’re gearing up for a really exciting E3 – unlike any E3 we’ve ever had before," Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg told VG247.
"As you may have heard, our traditional news briefing is on the morning of Monday, June 14. Additionally, as a kick off to the week, we will be hosting a can't-miss exclusive Project Natal World Premier experience designed for all ages and demonstrating the universal appeal of Xbox 360 on Sunday evening."
The system was first unveiled at E3 last year, but Microsoft has yet to show any significant software releases for Natal, or commit to a price or solid launch date.
Peter Molyneux said last month that he's found it frustrating that so far demos of the technology have only used early iterations of Natal, and that the software has been through "countless" revisions since it was first announced.
E3 is held June 15-17 this year, but as is traditional, the platform holders and major publishers will hold events before the official show dates in attempts to get better press coverage for their products.
The 2010 show looks to be one of the busiest in years, with rumours already circulating about new game announcements.
Earlier this week Nintendo pre-empted its competitors by revealing that it would show a brand new 3D handheld console at the event, and Sony has said that it will be unveiling more details of PlayStation Move and 3D games for the PlayStation 3.
In the same week, cloud gaming service OnLive is also set to go live to the public for the first time.

Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb has confirmed the inevitable to Joystiq: Xbox 360 Memory Units and the 120GB hard drive are being phased out. Acknowledging what's been in the stars since February, the Xbox spokesman stated that "the channel is being drained" of the storage options. The same goes for Memory Units, which, after today's official announcement of USB support, makes the MU even less useful.
This makes the $130 250GB HDD the primary option ... well, at least until this fall, if the Xbox Slim comes to pass.

This morning at the PAX East Microsoft breakfast, Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb revealed the 16GB Xbox 360-branded Flash drive from SanDisk. Available in May, the not-yet-priced device comes pre-installed with the April 6 Dashboard update for those who shun the connectivity of Xbox Live.
In a conversation with Joystiq, Hryb informed us that all data will be transferable to the USB device, except for installed games -- users will need to re-install those directly to the USB device once more. He assured us, however, that, "If you've got a 16GB and you only want to use 8, you can use the UI and throttle it back." Further, he reiterated to Joystiq that while this branded device is certainly one option, other Flash drives (including those larger than 16GB) will work in the same capacity.
