Konami has told Eurogamer that no date has been set for glamorous new PS3 and 360 game Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.
Therefore, a spokesperson added, talk of an October release must be dismissed as "speculation".
An October launch would put Castlevania: Lords of Shadow in the heart of a busy holiday schedule. Konami must believe that its big-budget, third-person interpretation of the creaky old licence will rake in the big bucks.
Certainly the talent is there: Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima is collaborating - albeit in a hands-off, overseer role.

The Xbox 360 Medal of Honor beta has finally begun.
Head to the MOH website and log in to your EA account to redeem a beta key. When that key is redeemed you'll be given a token. That token can be used on Xbox Live to download the beta demo.
It sounds like a key is given to anyone with an EA account.
The Medal of Honor beta has been ongoing on PC and PS3 since earlier this summer. Dan Whitehead did some war for Eurogamer.

Kinect requires six feet of space between the player and TV in order to be enjoyed.
That's according to online retail behemoth Amazon, which has seemingly delivered the most concrete info yet on how close we can expect to wiggle in front our tellies.
The retailer warns: "You'll need any Xbox 360 console, a Kinect sensor, Kinect games and 6 feet between you and your television for play space."
The spacing info is mentioned on the game's pre-order page, but oddly not only the official Kinect checklist.
If true, this pretty much puts bedroom Kinect gaming to bed, especially considering the device allegedly doesn't work when lying down either.

Microsoft's on again off again relationship with Peter Molyneux's Kinect project Milo & Kate appears to be on again.
Last week at the TEDGlobal Conference in Oxford Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux said Microsoft had no plans to release Milo & Kate, according to a BBC report.
A fortnight previous, Microsoft mouthpiece Aaron Greenberg said "right now it's not a game" before changing his mind, after which Lionhead boss Molyneux waded in and said Greenberg's original comment was based on out-of-date information.
But according to Greenberg, who we spoke to last night, there's still a chance that Project Milo will be released.
"You can see that it's definitely not just a tech demo," Xbox product director Aaron Greenberg told Eurogamer in an interview published elsewhere on the site.
"They're building something that's pretty unique and compelling. We leave it up to Peter and his team to determine what that game is and when it would come to market. All we've said is that at this point in time it's not coming this holiday. But as you can see it's definitely quite a bit more than just a tech demo.
"What that turns out to be and how it gets brought to market all remains to be seen. We're fortunate to have one of the brilliant creators of our industry pushing the boundaries of creativity with this project. It's been exciting for people that have seen a preview of it. He's [Peter Molyneux] best to speak to about what this product will eventually become."
So it's Molyneux's decision whether it gets released?
"There are a whole variety of factors. But for now it's in Peter's hands. Peter serves as our creative director for all of our studios in Europe. What that turns out to be and all those details remain to be seen. It's not something we're bringing to market this holiday, so we're going to be a bit more vague about it than if it was launching in a couple of months."
If, like us, you're having a bit of trouble keeping up, read Ellie Gibson's account of an evening interacting with Milo.

Microsoft finally announced the price for Kinect and unsurprisingly it’s $149.99. The entry level package for Xbox 360 owners includes the sensor and Kinect Adventures. Additional games like Kinect Sports, Kinect Joy Ride, and Dance Central will retail for $49.99 or $10 less than the average Xbox 360 game.
Don’t have an Xbox 360? Microsoft is ready with a Kinect hardware bundle. This package includes a remodeled Xbox 360 with 4GB of flash memory (note: this model does not have a hard drive and currently Microsoft is not selling hard drives for the slim Xbox 360), controller, Kinect, Kinect Adventures, and a code to download three additional levels for $299.99.
You can get the 4GB Xbox 360 starting on August 3 for $199.99. Kinect and its hardware bundle makes its debut in North America on November 4th.

July 20th, 2010, 23:18 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft has told GamesIndustry.biz that UK sales of the Xbox 360 family of consoles surged last weekend, up over 1000 per cent compared to the previous week.
Sales were driven by the release of the Xbox 360 S, along with price cuts on existing models of the Arcade and Elite models, with Xbox EMEA boss Chris Lewis claiming an 84 per cent share of the market.
"It's only a couple of days of sales, but it does further enforce the appetite that people have for the Xbox 360, and excitement for the 250GB slimmer, quieter version," said Lewis in an interview published today.
Although not revealing hard numbers, Chart-Track said earlier in the week that sales of the redesigned console – which features built in wifi – were higher than Sony's release of the slim PlayStation 3 model and the launch of the smaller PS2.
The Xbox 360 S has a RRP of £199 in the UK, while the Elite is selling for £149 and the Arcade unit £119. Lewis did not offer a break down of the different SKUs.
Earlier today Microsoft detailed pricing for a new 4GB Xbox 360 S which comes in matte black (£149.99) or bundled with motion control tech Kinect plus one game (£249.99). Kinect is also available with a game for £129.99.

July 20th, 2010, 23:11 Posted By: wraggster
Whether they annoy you or fulfill your nerdy collection habit, achievements have spread across the gaming landscape and are here to stay. The Xbox Engineering blog recently posted a glimpse into the creation of the Xbox 360 achievement system, discussing how achievements work at a software level, and even showing a brief snippet of code. They also mention some of the decisions they struggled with while creating them:
"We are proud of the consistency you find across all games. You have one friends list, every game supports voice chat, etc. But we also like to give game designers room to come up with new and interesting ways to entertain. That trade-off was at the heart of the original decision we made to not give any indication that a new achievement had been awarded. Some people argued that gamers wouldn't want toast popping up in the heat of battle and that game designers would want to use their own visual style to present achievements. Others argued for consistency and for reducing the work required of game developers. In the end we added the notification popup and its happy beep, which turned out to be the right decision, but for a long time it was anything but obvious."

Also unveiled is the much-rumoured cheaper model of the new Xbox 360 S. The £149.99 (€199.99 / $199.99) console will include 4GB of built-in flash memory instead of a hard drive, and will sport a matte finish rather than the glossy shell of its bigger brother.
Onboard wi-fi remains, and the console is officially known as the Xbox 360 4GB. It will be available at retail from August 20 in the UK and August 3 in the US.
A bundle containing Kinect, the Xbox 360 4GB and Kinect Adventures will be released in tandem with the seperate Kinect launch this winter. The package will sell for £249.99 ($299.99).

July 20th, 2010, 23:03 Posted By: wraggster
EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich says the £129.99 ($149.99 in US) asking price of Microsoft's Kinect peripheral is "appropriate".
Disagreeing with comments from Wedbush man Michael Pachter, who reckons Kinect is "too expensive", Divnich thinks the device still has the potential to sell to the masses considering "previous peripherals with mass-market appeal, such as band kits, have sold millions of units worldwide even while priced north of $150."
Divnich notes that said band kits were only for use with one game at release, and restricted to the music genre, while Kinect has a far broader use and potential shelf life.
"Kinect should not be viewed as a typical video game peripheral that is retired from one's active playlist after 90 days, but rather a consumer enabling device that has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with all forms of media on a daily basis," he said, adding that it's "crucial to rekindling the energy among the casual and mainstream audience, the same audience that has exacerbated software revenue declines since 2009."

July 20th, 2010, 23:00 Posted By: wraggster
Industry analyst Michael Pachter has claimed that the price of the standalone Kinect peripheral for Xbox 360 is too high to win over the hardcore - but that Microsoft can afford to cut it in future.
However, Pachter said he expected the device to be "moderately successful" - but without troubling the casual market dominance of Nintendo's Wii.
Microsoft announced pricing for Kinect earlier today, with the standalone device (plus Kinect Adventures) at £129.99 for the UK and $149.99 for the US.
It also announced a new 4GB Xbox 360 'S' console for £149.99. Kinect and Kinect Adventures are to be bundled with the hardware for £249.99, or $299.99 in the US.
"The Kinect bundle costs only $100 more than the cost of a standalone console, so they can afford to sell Kinect for $100," Pachter told CVG.
"[Also] the standalone price for Kinect is too high, and core gamers will be put off by the price. My bias is that most core gamers will wait, but that 5 - 10 per cent will buy it. That suggests 2 - 4 million standalone units [sold]."
He added: "The takeaway is that if they can afford to cut price on the [new 250GB Xobx 360 S] console and to bundle Kinect for $100 more, we could see a $349 bundle next year.
"That would provide an advantage over Sony. At current pricing, it's only a $30 advantage, given that the all-in cost for a complete Move package is $180 and the all-in cost of a standalone Kinect is $150.
"I don't see a meaningful threat to the Wii at these prices. The all-in cost of the arcade bundle is $299, still $100 above the Wii, although some people will find that attractive. The all-in cost of the PS3 plus a complete Move package is $479; $399 for the PS3, game, Move and Eye, another $80 for an extra Move and a sub-controller. At this price, it's not particularly competitive with the Wii.
"I think that both Kinect and Move are priced too high to spark the whole industry, but think that both will sell modestly well."

July 20th, 2010, 22:57 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft product director for Xbox Aaron Greenberg has claimed that Microsoft's Kinect - which has just been given a hefty £130 pricetag - is better value for consumers than Sony's Move peripheral.
Sony announced pricing for Move earlier in the year. It will cost £34.99 for the standalone controller, whilst a PlayStation Move Pack - which includes a PlayStation Move controller, the PlayStation Eye camera and the starter disk which includes the games Beat the Sketcher, Blocks and Echochrome 2 - will set you back £49.99.
The PlayStation Eye camera on its own costs £24.99 and the PlayStation sub-controller on its own will cost £24.99.
"Relative to the competition, we feel like we're in a very envious position," Greenberg told Destructoid.
"If you think about the console bundle as a standalone, what you have to keep in mind is, when you get the console and the sensor and the game, when you add another player to that experience you don't have to buy another wand, another controller, another Nunchuk... It's all included in the experience."

Capcom vs. Namco and Namco vs. Capcom are two games currently in development, US mag Game Informer reckons.
Sources told the mag that Capcom will make Capcom vs. Namco using the Street Fighter IV engine, and Namco Bandai will create Namco vs. Capcom with the Tekken 6 engine.
Rumour suggests Street Fighter main man Yoshinori Ono is in charge of Capcom vs. Namco, and Namco Bandai's Katsuhiro Harada is leading the Namco vs. Capcom charge.
Apparently a fighting game debut trailer will go live on Saturday 24th July during Comic-Con.
We already know Ono will unveil his new game at the show.
A couple of weeks ago he tweeted: "SuperSF4 is nothing compared to what's coming!!"
Fans have speculated that Ono's new game is a Darkstalkers reboot. However, one game Ono has denied he's working on is Capcom vs. SNK 3.
"Personally, I hope for it. But I don't have time. Will anyone make it? " he said, once again, via Twitter.

July 20th, 2010, 21:12 Posted By: wraggster
Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada has admitted that Final Fantasy XIII met with a mixed reaction from gamers, and that he's not sure if the long-running RPG series should look to change in the future.
"When it comes to the customers' reaction to the quality of the game, some value it highly and some are not very happy with it," Wada told Gamasutra.
"I think this is a product that was able to meet the expectations for those who know Final Fantasy," he said. "There are all kinds of games around in the market today. Should Final Fantasy become a new type of the game or should Final Fantasy not become a new type of game?
"The customers have different opinions. It's very difficult to determine which way it should go."
Final Fantasy XIII was criticised by many for its slow pacing and linear first half, for adhering too strongly to some Japanese RPG traditions, and for diverging from others. However, Wada pointed out that despite varying review scores, the game was a commercial success.
"Looking at the numbers alone, it is pretty good, because we were able to release the latest Final Fantasy in all three markets of Japan, United States and Europe in a very short period of time, and we were able to reach 5 million units rapidly - and I think this product will grow further."
We suspect that will influence his thinking on what direction Final Fantasy will take more than the complaints of gamers on the internet. Us? We liked it.

[Chlazza] let us know about their Xbox hard drive to SATA adapter, allowing the use of an Xbox 360 (original) hard drive on a PC without voiding the drive’s warranty. Looking for a fun and enriching experience read: really bored and inspired by a previous adapter we featured, [Chlazza] set out to make their own and ended up succeeding with a board that costs less than $1 in parts. Of course the drive uses its own Fat32 based file system so there is still some hacking to do if you intended to read the data, but this is a step in the right direction.

Budget multiformat game Pure Football has been advertised by Blockbuster for £9.99 – less than two months after it hit store shelves.
The retailer has placed a series of ads in Metro listing the game at £9.99. It is selling copies of Ubisoft’s five-a-side footie title on its website as well as in stores.
Pure Football originally went on sale on May 28th with Xbox 360, PC and PS3 versions retailing for £29.99. It went head-to-head with EA’s 2010 FIFA World Cup which was released a month earlier.
Ubisoft even signed a deal with Liverpool star Steven Gerrard to feature in Pure Football’s box art.
Earlier this year Namco Bandai’s Clash of Titans also received a £29.99 RRP – a price sitting halfway between the traditional budget £19.99 and full £44.99 RRPs.
