We’ve seen the $149.99 price for the Kinect Sensor everywhere, even on Microsoft’s own online store. That price no matter where you see it, is just a placeholder, according to a Microsoft employee.
“All prices now *no matter what the retail source* are placeholders. We’ve not announced. :>,” Stephen Toulouse, Director of Policy and Enforcement for Xbox Live, posted on Twitter.
Microsoft also updated their Kinect product page with a disclaimer. It reads, “official pricing has not been announced. $149.99 is an estimate only and subject to change.”

As part of his introductory post on the official Battlefield blog, the franchise's new community manager, "Bazajaytee," announced that the delayed Onslaught mode DLC for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will arrive in the Xbox Live Marketplace tomorrow, June 24, for 800 Microsoft points ($10).
We're glad the delay wasn't, say, a week. Then we'd have probably shot someone -- in the game, of course.

Bing, Microsoft's "decision engine," is wading into the entertainment realm today with the revelation that searches for music, lyrics, games, TV shows, and movies will get a new special sauce treatment from here on out. You'll now be able to play 100 basic games right in your search results, along with full-length streaming of songs (first time only, 30 seconds thereafter) from a 5 million-strong catalog. The latter is augmented with "one-click" purchases from the Zune Marketplace (directly through the web, no need to launch the app), Amazon, or iTunes music libraries. Movie tickets are promised to be similarly easy to buy, though the biggest new feature might well be the Bing.com/entertainment page, which acts as a portal into your media consumption with a selection of the most popular content in each category. It doesn't look terribly different from the iTunes storefront, but given its partnership with Apple's digital music shop, we doubt Bing's Entertainment section is perceived as much of a threat -- not yet, anyway. As to that other search giant, Google's been said to already be putting together a music store of its own. Man, all this integration and interconnectedness -- just where will it end?

Tecmo Koei has told Eurogamer that Fist of the North Star will retain the Japanese voice-overs when is heads west.
A spokesperson for the company told us fans had been "begging" for this. Fist of the North Star will also be fully voiced in English.
Tecmo Koei's Fist of the North Star spins the Japanese Manga with a Dynasty Warriors twist. You're a hard-as-nails karate bloke with a bare chest and a weird hand. And you'll be punching through droves of enemies and racking up bloody combos galore.
Fist of the North Star will be released in the autumn on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Sledgehammer Games has relaunched its website and revealed that it has a proper office now, having hired more than 50 people to work on its new Call of Duty game.
"We are currently in production on a Call of Duty FPS game. More details coming soon or sooner if you pass our interview process and become an employee!" the main page jokes.
According to co-founder Glen Schofield, the studio now consists of "well over 50 developers" and is "still hiring", having moved into an office on 27th February.
Photos of the facilities include a shot of the room where the team reviews progress on the game, with PS3 and Xbox 360 development kits visible, along with some PCs, but no sign of a Wii or any other formats.
Sledgehammer was formed in late 2009 by Schofield and his colleague Michael Condrey, who left EA's Visceral Games studio after working on the likes of Dead Space.
The team's Call of Duty focus came to light following the ousting of Vince Zampella and Jason West from Infinity Ward earlier this year and publisher Activision's subsequent COD reshuffle.
At the time we were told Sledgehammer would "extend the franchise into the action-adventure genre", although job adverts - and now the official site - indicate that, whatever the variation, the game will be played from the first-person perspective.

Aaron Greenberg has claimed that the combination of Xbox 360's exclusive games and franchises coming to the system for the first time - such as Metal Gear Solid - mean that "if you're a gamer, you have to have an Xbox".
Speaking to VG247, the Microsoft product boss said Hideo Kojima's demo of Metal Gear Solid: Rising at the Xbox 360 E3 conference was "the perfect follow-up [to 2009's E3]".
He added: "As we thought about this generation, you've seen that our strategy is to have the most exclusives and the biggest blockbuster games. We've invested in Halo, and Gears of War, and Fable, and Alan Wake, and Crackdown 2, and a lot of the big titles that we think you'll buy an Xbox 360 for.
"At the same time we realise there's a whole set of big franchises that we never had on our platform, things like Final Fantasy; Metal Gear was a great example of that. We feel like we've kind of removed that. Now, all the biggest games are really available now on Xbox 360. If you're a gamer you have to have an Xbox, because that's where those games are at."

If you're less concerned with form and function as you are with frugality, you'll be pleased to know that the release of the slimmer, blacker 360 model has led to the fairly substantial discounting of older, chubbier versions of the console. Both Amazon and Best Buy have marked the Arcade model down from $200 to $150, while the Elite model is down from $300 to $250.
MCV reports that UK retailers are beginning to drop the price on their Arcades and Elites in anticipation of the arrival of the Xbox 360 S. If you're looking for a cheap opportunity to grab a 360 -- or if you're just a purveyor of ancient technological artifacts -- you may want to grab these while they're hot.

June 23rd, 2010, 00:09 Posted By: wraggster
Wedbush research analyst Michael Pachter has again voiced his skepticism of Microsoft's Kinect motion control camera, describing it as "a limited device".
In his latest Pach Attack show on website GameTrailers.com, Pachter described Kinect as "a limited device, because you’re really not, as Kevin Butler said, gonna to be going 'pew pew,' shooting people with your finger."
"If you want to play a dance game and have your whole body picked up, or you want to do a fitness game and have the monitor tell you to lift your knee higher you 'fat B', this is the device that you want to own," added Pachter.
"The hardcore probably aren’t going to be as impressed. Their mums are, their girlfriends are, their wives are, their kids are: that is who wants this thing," he concluded.
Pachter yesterday voiced concern at the effect a high price tag could have on Kinect's success and repeated those comments in his Pach Attack report.
"If Microsoft prices it right I think it blows out, I think it’ll sell like crazy. If they price it too high, I think it’ll take a while to get off the ground," he said.
Pachter suggests that some within Microsoft would like to sell Kinect at a $99 price tag in the US but all evidence so far, including Microsoft's own website, suggests a $149 price.

The US Army is to close a $12 million "Army Experience Center", which made prominent use of Xbox titles such as Halo to entice new recruits.
The centre was the only one of its kind in the US, and intended to be a two-year long experiment to discern the most effective way of attracting visitors. It will close officially on July 31.
Situated in the Franklin Mills Center in Northeast Philadelphia, an earlier Philadelphia City Paper report described the centre as having multiple Xbox consoles running tournaments for games such as Halo, America's Army and Madden NFL.
Bespoke Apache and Black Hawk helicopter simulations were also featured, along with a Humvee simulator housed in a full-size vehicle. The centre also has touchscreen computers which allow visitors to browse potential Army jobs based on salary and location.
Army representatives indicate that some of the installations may be used in other standard recruitment centres or a new experimental site could be set up elsewhere in the country.
Speaking to The Philadelphia Inquirer an Army spokesman indicated that the centre "did what it was supposed to do. It was a success."
"The biggest part of this was using the technology," said the spokesman. "Recruiters have used tricolour brochures, but that doesn't work with the digital generation. We have to keep up with the way people get their information."
The location was chosen because New Jersey, and the Philadelphia metropolitan area in particular, had "the lowest propensity toward military service in the nation." Recruitment has risen 15 per cent since the centre opened, although it's unclear what affect the global recession may also have had on these figures.
A controversial concept from the start, the centre has attracted hundreds of demonstrators in its two years of operation, with objections over the glorification of violence and stereotyping of enemy forces.

Microsoft's just dropped details on its new Xbox Live family subscription plan. Starting in November, it will offer the Gold Family Pack, enabling up to four users to have Xbox Live Gold subscriptions, for $99.99 a year. It'll also debut the Family Center, a new menu accessible from the dashboard for customizing account settings. We've certainly wished for something like this in the past, and the pricing sounds like a pretty good deal to us -- we'll be able to afford a new cap for our avatar, afterall! Full press release is below.

June 22nd, 2010, 22:47 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft has confirmed the release of its new-look Xbox 360 for the Japanese market.
The Xbox 360 S will be available from June 24, for ¥29,800 - the same price as the current Xbox 360 Elite SKU, which will itself be discounted to ¥24,800.
Rumours continue to abound that a cheaper version of the new model is also due for release later this year.
The June 24 availability means the slimline, quieter-running version of the console will be available more or less in accord with its US and European release, despite the Xbox 360 currently selling just 3200 units a week in Japan. By contrast, the most recent Wii sales were 21,000, and 18,000 for PS3.
A range of 'liquid black' accessories will also be made available, including controllers and charging kits. Additionally, the Xbox 360 S also includes a special Kinect port, although Kinect availability in Japan is yet to be confirmed.

June 22nd, 2010, 22:35 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft has offered up a very simple explanation for the lack of hardcore games currently set to support the upcoming Kinect motion camera – the device isn’t aimed at the core market.
Instead, the company has said that its motion titles and traditional joypad-based games are aimed at very different demographics
“With Halo: Reach, Gears of War 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops, this is the biggest year for core games on Xbox 360,” the platform holder told Kotaku. “In addition to these controller-based games, Kinect is a new way to play, using your full body and voice
“At Xbox, we're developing controller-based games for the core and Kinect titles that appeal to everyone.”
The remarks come in stark contrast to claims made to MCV by Project Natal director Alex Kipman last year:
“We'll have games that are specifically designed to work only with Natal – not just arcadey games, but real, hardcore, triple-A titles.”
Whether this strategy proves correct ultimately depends on the appetite that the core games market shows for the new motion control offerings from Sony. If the likes of SOCOM and The Fight sell well MS could quickly find itself playing catch-up.

Seems as though everyone thinks Kinect’s going to cost $150. Including Microsoft.
The Microsoft Store is now listing the motion sensor at $149.99 for pre-order.- Apparently, the following comes in the box:
- Kinect sensor for Xbox 360
- Power supply cable
- User’s manual
- Wi-Fi extension cable
There’s been intense speculation around Kinect’s price since Microsoft shied away from dropping the information at E3 last week, with rumours ranging from a $150 cost price to $189 at retail.
Kinect releases before the end of the year.

Final Fantasy XIV Online's producer Hiromichi Tanaka has said that there are currently "no plans" to bring Square Enix's next MMO to Xbox 360, although conversations with Microsoft are ongoing.
"Currently there are no plans for a version for the Xbox 360," he confirmed to RPGsite (via VG247).
"We are still talking with Microsoft about an Xbox 360 version, but at the moment we are only working on the PS3 version and Windows version."
Although it was originally revealed by Sony during its 2009 press conference, there has been talk of a 360 version of the game since, with Tanaka confirming that Square Enix was in discussions with Microsoft at Gamescom later in the year.
The good news is that the game is still on track for a 2010 release. "Yes, that is the plan," Tanaka said.
Eurogamer had some hands-on time with the game at E3, but it wasn't really the best environment to try out a new MMO. We're expecting beta access soon, so look out for our impressions then.

Microsoft has insisted that the Xbox 360 is just as 3D ready as the PS3, though has once again iterated that it’s not diving headfirst into the 3D sector just yet.
“We have 3D games,” Xbox global marketing boss Albert Penello told CVG. “Obviously the Avatar game came out last year and the console fully supports 3D. From a technical side, there's nothing about it we can't do. In fact, we're already doing it today.”
Penello went on to echo comments made at E3 that, unlike Sony which is charging full-tilt into the 3D revolution, Microsoft is sitting back and seeing how 3D uptake pans out before potentially making its move.
“We're going to take more of an attitude of seeing what the adoption looks like,” the exec added. “For us, it's more going to be let's see what the consumers say. Let's see what happens on the TV side and the sell-through side. It's something I think we're going to follow on, and that we're fine to follow on.
“I think that when we decide we want to jump into 3D it'll be because the consumer's voted.”

Viewers of Microsoft's E3 media briefing reacted to the reveal of the new, slimmed-down Xbox 360 in peculiar ways. For instance, tech writer Anand Lal Shimpi apparently reacted with excitement -- not because he couldn't wait to add the new model to his collection, but because he couldn't wait to completely dismember it.
You can check out the pictorial fruits of Anand's labor over on his site, and glimpse some of the technology that powers Valhalla. The highlight of this teardown? We finally get to see the single chip (teased by the motherboard we had Ben Heck look at earlier this year) that houses the 360's CPU, GPU, and eDRAM, which can all be cooled by a single, more powerful fan. When you turn on your new 360 and it doesn't sound like a pair of jet engines, you've got this little guy to thank.

Having done away with the iconic ‘Red Ring of Death’ in the redesigned version of its Xbox 360, Microsoft has also introduced further safeguards to protect against the console’s patchy reliability record.
It has emerged that the redesigned Xbox 360 S will automatically shut down if it detects that its innards are getting too hot. A message will appear on-screen telling users:
“The Xbox 360 is shutting down to protect the console from insufficient ventilation. You can turn the console back on after the power light stops flashing.”
Overheating was the main cause of the old model’s technical issues. More recent revisions of the hardware contained beefier heat sinks to help dissipate warmth as well as larger braces to prevent the circuit boards from warping and damaging components.
The Xbox 360’s reliability issues saw it feature twice on BBC’s consumer rights show Watchdog – once due to disc scratching accusations and again for RROD.
Microsoft subsequently extended the warranty it offered new owners, a move that cost the company over $1bn.

Online multiplayer is in, and there's a chance to earn items for your Xbox Live Avatar while playing. Our Risk: Factions gallery offers a glimpse of what to expect.
This Wednesday's other Xbox Live Arcade game is Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project.
