Microsoft's launched a competition that gives you the opportunity to play motion-sensing add-on Kinect in your hometown before it's released.
Microsoft wants you to tell it why you deserve the honour of having Kinect brought to your town, school, village, road, or even your house over on its Facebook site.
The three "most compelling and creative" reasons will win. You've got until 6th October to register your vote.
Who decides the winner? Microsoft UK & Ireland's director of Xbox and entertainment Stephen McGill, executive producer of technology & communications at Rare Studios Nick Burton and, wait for it, singer and model Sophie Ellis Bextor.
Sophie Ellis Bextor took time out from her busy schedule murdering the dancefloor to say: "I'm really excited to be announcing 'Kinect Comes to You', where we're giving someone the chance to experience Kinect, before it hits the shops. Whoever wins this opportunity I'm sure, like me, will have a great time experiencing the amazing world of Kinect!"
Kinect's due out in the UK on 10th November.

Microsoft is set to roll out some significant changes to its Xbox Live service this year, and wanted to run them by you first. An Xbox Live Update Preview Program is now accepting registrants online, and will grant selected users early access to the Xbox's updated user interface, the Xbox Live on-demand ESPN service, and the enhanced Netflix interface. This is not part of the Kinect beta test, so don't expect a camera to land in your mailbox unless you're also signing up for a reality TV show.
As per Major Nelson's instructions, you can now sign up to Microsoft's Connect website and complete a survey, after which you'll be notified if you've been selected for the program. "Multiple thousands of participants" are sought at this stage, so you might just have a good shot at getting in. You should be aware of some caveats, however: Your ISP must support ESPN 3; you need a Netflix subscription to use the new Netflix search, and an Xbox Live Gold account will afford you "priority" during selection.
The Xbox Live update will introduce a new audio codec for online communication -- if you're selected, your voice chat will become incompatible with the older version. Survey says: "Because you are participating in an exclusive pre-release program, you will not be able to voice chat with non-participants during the preview program period." Game chat should not be impacted, but you've already muted everyone on Halo: Reach anyway.

Gamers who download songs with the upcoming Zune Pass will be blocked from listening to their music if they allow their subscription to expire.
It means gamers could lose access to DRM-free music downloaded from the Zune catalogue under the £8.99 per month subscription scheme, set to hit European Xbox 360s this autumn.
Yesterday Eurogamer brought you the news that European Xbox 360 owners will be able to buy digital rights management free songs and stream download-to-own movies when Microsoft updates the expanded Zune Marketplace.
A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to Eurogamer: "Zune Pass is a music subscription service. At £8.99 per month, it will allow unlimited downloads and streaming of music from the eight million available on Zune Marketplace.
"If your Zune Pass expires, you will lose access to this music. However, it will all be stored and waiting for you the next time you reinstate your Zune Pass."
Movies purchased from Zune Marketplace, however, "are yours to keep". Zune Pass is a music subscription service only and does not include movie rentals or purchases.
The European expansion of the Zune Marketplace brings the previously US-only experience of listening to music and buying download-to-own movies through the Xbox 360 to the UK.
When the service launches you'll be able to buy DRM-free MP3s from the Zune Marketplace and listen to them on your PC, Windows Phone – due out in the UK by Christmas - and Xbox 360.
When Kinect launches on 10th November, you'll be able to control the whole operation with your hands and voice commands, too.

The eBox [Chinese game machine - dubbed "Kinect clone"] will come with 30 games built in and a set-top camera that can detect a player's movements, according to the article. According to Eedoo Technology, the company behind the product, this is only the second controller-free console.
"I think it's all about who builds the best experiences," Microsoft Game Studios exec Phil Spencer recently told Kotaku. "I don't think anybody longs to buy a piece of plastic to put under their TV. I think what it's going to be able is who has the best games and experiences for people. I think it's always been about that and should be."
"We don't really know anything about it other than that press release that went out," a Microsoft spokesperson pointed out. "Nobody really knows what it is doing and how it's doing it. We don't know about its content. There isn't a lot of clarity on it."

The much-hyped launch of Halo: Reach helped to double sales of Xbox in the UK last week, according to official chart monitor Gfk-ChartTrack.
Director Dorian Bloch revealed to GamesIndustry.biz this afternoon that Bungie's shooter has had a "marked effect on hardware sales" with Xbox "up 99 percent" for the week ending September 18.
Halo: Reach, which launched last Tuesday, September 14, shifted an estimated 300,000 copies in its first 24 hours at UK retail, and went on to enjoy the fifth biggest-selling launch week ever, according to Gfk-ChartTrack data.
While Microsoft will be encouraged by the boost in Xbox sales, it falls well short of the 1,000 percent increase. fuelled by the launch of the Xbox 360 S SKU earlier in the summer.
GamesIndustry.biz understands that sales of the limited-edition Halo-themed Xbox SKU, exclusive to GAME, played a significant part in the sales jump.

Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade has had a banner month, bringing in a ballpark $17.5 million in revenue over August, according to market research group FADE.
The VGchartz subsidiary does not have access to sales data, and instead based its figures on surveys and projections.
By its own yardstick, August 2010 saw a rise of 6 per cent the $16.5 million revenue rounded up at the same time last year - making this August the service's biggest ever month.
Nine downloadable games were approximated to have grossed in excess of half a million dollars, with Monday Night Combat the champ at $2.8 million and 187,000 units.
Other August success stories were the latest Castlevania ($2.0 million, 131,000 units) and July bestseller Limbo ($1.9 million, 128,000).
FADE calculated that the latter has now sold 334,000 units to date, though it stands in the tall shadow of Trials HD's estimated 1,005,000 lifetime sales – one of just four XBLA titles to shift over a million units

September 19th, 2010, 21:47 Posted By: wraggster
It's that time of year again. New iPods are out, and the next generation Zunes can't be far behind. Or can they? There's been a great deal of talk whether the Zune HD will be the last or second to last hardware Zune Microsoft produces. It's clear Zune's future lies in a platform, on PC, Xbox and Windows Phone, but a new Hardware version may have something to offer that the last few iterations couldn't. WMPowerUser via Engadget seems to think that an MS job posting for a hardware specialist focusing on “next generation of portable entertainment and communication devices” has something to do with a Microsoft-produced PMP or phone handset. Given the success of the iPod/iTunes same foundation in iOS (and to a similar extent the UI innovations from Zune HD that eventually made their way to WP7), it makes sense for Microsoft to consolidate the media player and phone OS teams. If Microsoft can produce a phone-less Windows Phone 7 the way Apple has with the iPod Touch they may have a chance, albeit a small one. Microsoft and Apple have already killed off their once-popular dedicated harddrive-based players in favor of multifunction touchscreen models (iPod shuffle notwithstanding). And after the Kin debacle, I can't imagine Microsoft bigwigs are in a hurry to reenter the consumer dumbphone market with an in-house handset. As exciting as it would be to have a cheaper, contract-less Windows Phone for apps, music and video, the platform has at most one or two more iterations before being killed off. Is it even viable for Microsoft to release another ZuneHD at this point?

Insomnica released a new version of Mousepatcher:
[QUOTE]
What is Mousepatcher 2.0?
Mousepatcher aims to keep your Xbox 360 safe online by patching the Security Sector data on the ISO with version 2 SS/DMI data, which has been recommended by c4eva.
Mousepatcher 2.0 is a complete rewrite from the original, and now automatically patches the ISO with SSv2 data without you having to traverse the internet to find files for yourself.
No Fuss, No Hassle
With the autopatch function, all you have to do is drag and drop the ISO image into the program.
Then the program will find the required SSv2 files and automatically download and patch them.
You'll no longer have to track down SSv2 files on the internet beforehand!
Intelligent Patching Controls
But if you have your own SSv2 files, Mousepatcher 2.0 is here to help manually patch.
With it's safety mechanisms, you can drop the SS or DMI file in a random order and the program will decide which file it is!

September 18th, 2010, 00:41 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft reckons the release of Xbox 360 motion-sensor Kinect will be the "biggest platform launch ever".
The confident predictions go on: Microsoft thinks Kinect will be the biggest home electronics launch of 2010.
"We're investing in this so people will know Kinect is here," Microsoft Game Studios boss Phil Spencer told Eurogamer in a new Tokyo Game Show interview today.
"Retailers are telling us from their buzz and what they hear from people walking the store asking questions that this is going to be the biggest consumer home electronics launch of this year, and they're gearing up towards that.
"Given all the momentum that I see and the way we're investing, I'll bet this is the biggest platform launch ever."
Yesterday Spencer's colleague Aaron Greenberg predicted Microsoft will sell over three million Kinects this Christmas.
He also said Microsoft will flog "more Kinect sensors than we did [systems] at Xbox 360 launch".
But the biggest platform launch ever?
"For the holiday, yeah, I bet it is," Spencer replied.
"We have 15 launch games - few consoles have shipped with 15 launch games. They're really high quality. And there are some things we can take advantage of - the fact the 360 is a platform people know, so the technology involved in putting a game on the platform, connecting to Live - those are things that developers have become adept at.
"It will be about how we execute, but we'll see. I don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but we're invested and we expect, yeah, that this will be the biggest launch we've ever seen."
Some will question Spencer's use of the term "platform". Is a mobile phone, such as the iPhone, a platform? If Kinect is a platform, is PlayStation Move?
In June Apple revealed iPad sales had topped three million in the 80 days since launch in the US.
Kinect's due out in the UK on 10th November and costs £130. A £300 Kinect console bundle, which includes a 250GB Xbox 360, Kinect sensor and a copy of Kinect Adventures, will launch on the same day.

The Xbox 360 Kinect will outsell Apple’s highly successful iPad – that’s the claim being made by Microsoft at the Tokyo Game Show.
“The pre-orders have been really strong,” official Kinect spokesperson Kudo Tsunoda told Gamasutra. “As far as what we're looking at for holiday, this is going to be stuff that'll blow away any of the sales you've seen with iPad.
“The Xbox 360 is already selling better than the Wii and Sony right now. Kinect's really just going to boost that to a whole new level.”
