True story: Just yesterday we were saying, "Huh, not as many people seem to be talking about Halo: Reach lately." Then, this morning we wake up to find that Bungie will be stoking the flames on November 30 with the downloadable Noble Map Pack. Get out of our heads, creeps!
Ten bucks gets you access to three new environments. The first is Tempest (pictured), an abandoned shoreline facility featuring two symmetrical bases for 8 – 16 player fights. Anchor 9, an orbital dry-dock controlled by the UNSC, is a more intimate 2-8 player affair. Finally, there's Breakpoint, a series of frozen, modular archaeological labs for 8-16 players fracases. Oh, and there are 250 more Achievement points to be had, which we know is all you really care about. Monster.
If that's still not enough new Halo, Bungie's challenging fans to make some of their own with the "Forgetacular Map Design Contest," the full details of which are right here. We'd love to participate, but we'll be too busy making foil hats to protect our precious thought waves.

October 14th, 2010, 23:50 Posted By: wraggster
It looks like someone in Microsoft's Xbox Germany team dropped a clanger today in prematurely announcing plans to raise the Xbox Live friends list cap from a measly 100 to a mammoth 1000.
They also appeared to announce a new feature called the 'Finder' tab, which will apparently help you search for friends, presumably by parameters other than their Gamertag.
The slip was made in a now-deleted Facebook post. When put through Google, it read: "A lot of long-term change was desired by Xbox LIVE users the limit of 100 friends. With the update you can now up to 1,000 friends of your friends list. How many friends do you have? Not enough? Then you looking for new friends on the Finder tab!"
Neither of these features are apparently available in the preview version of the new upcoming dashboard, according to Joystiq, but it sounds like the final version released to the public will.

UPDATE: Microsoft's Major Nelson has tweeted that Xbox Germany was mistaken. "We will not be expanding the friends list as a part of the next Xbox LIVE Update," he insists.
ORIGINAL STORY:The impending Xbox 360 dashboard update will increase the friend limit from 100 to 1000, so say Xbox Germany.
According to Joystiq, the news popped up on Xbox Germany's Facebook feed.
A crude Google translation reads, "A lot of long-term change was desired by Xbox Live users the limit of 100 friends. With the update you can now up to 1,000 friends of your friends list. How many friends do you have? Not enough? Then you looking for new friends on the Finder tab!"
Looks like the German outpost jumped the gun though, as the announcement has since been removed. We've asked Microsoft HQ to confirm or deny.
A bump in the number of friends allowed on your Xbox 360 has been rumoured for some time. Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg announced it was in the pipeline way back in January 2009.
The new Xbox 360 dashboard goes live on 4th November, boasting new Kinect and Zune functionality and much more besides.

Red Dead Redemption has found unexpected success in Japan, entering the weekly all-formats chart at number four on PlayStation 3 and number seven on Xbox 360.
According to IGN, the PlayStation 3 version shifted 70,599 copies, while the Xbox 360 disc sold 25,673.
Sales didn't quite match Grand Theft Auto 4's week one Japanese tally of 160,000 back in November 2008 but nonetheless, it's an impressive result for a Western IP.
Other new entries in the Japanese chart included a disappointing debut for Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded on DS at three, while the PlayStation 3 version of F1 2010 managed to sneak at number eight.
DS RPG Pokémon Black/White holds on to the top spot. It's now sold a staggering 3,992,855 copies in the country since its release last month.
Red Dead Redemption publisher Take-Two recently announced that its awesome open-world epic has shifted a total of 6.9 million units worldwide.

the interesting bit about Alan Wake is the game doesn’t come on disc, you get a code to download it.

Bros, oil up them chests and get ready to bump 'em because THQ has announced a new DLC delivery program for WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 called "Fan Axxess." Yeah, bro -- it's totally called "Fan Axxess."
Spend 800 MS Points ($9.99) on Xbox 360 or PS3 and you'll be placed in the Fan Axxess program, a system that "will enable WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011 owners to obtain select downloadable content released throughout the life of the videogame." This "select content" will include "a number of playable WWE Legends, WWE Superstars and WWE Divas, alternate ring gear, playable arenas, a WWE Superstar Attribute Customizer, instant access to all unlockable content and an in-game badge," identifying you as Fan Axxess member.
If you're not interested in purchasing a label or its accompanied liberal use of the letter X, you can purchase each DLC pack individually. THQ has lined up the first few, so head past the break for the details.

It'll be time to make some crazy money when the PSN and XBLA versions of Crazy Taxi pick you up in November. Hitting PSN first on the 23rd and then XBLA on the 24th, Crazy Taxi will cost $10 and offer widescreen support with 720p HD graphics. Pick up passengers across the San Francisco-ish landscape in either Arcade Mode or Original Mode, or try out the 16 minigames that "hone taxi-driving skills."
For the purists, be aware that the licensed music and products will not be present in this version. That means no Pizza Hut, and a complete lack of The Offspring and Bad Religion. That may actually be a blessing, depending on how many times you played Crazy Taxi back in the day.

It never really occurred to us that Windows Phone 7 buyers wouldn't be able to use their phones in tandem with Apple computers, but here's the confirmation all spelled out: Microsoft's Oded Ran recently tweeted that Zune will let Mac users sync WP7 phones, presumably using an OS X compatible version of the desktop software package. Of course, since the tweet was deleted shortly after it was written, it's possible this was some sort of mistake, but if buyers find the twain incompatible come launch day, you'd best believe there's going to be some consumer outrage. Here's hoping that if the software does exist, it'll sync good ol' Zune media players as well.

Abandoned Kinect-enabled mini-games for Fable III saw you throwing tomatoes at passers-by and carving statues.
A Microsoft representative told Kotaku that developer Lionhead had tried a number of ideas for Kinect, including fruit throwing and statue sculpting, but neither will make their way into the finished game.
Lionhead had initially promised that Fable III would include some Kinect elements but creator Peter Molyneux recently confirmed that would not be the case, at least not at launch.
Apparently "whatever was initially planned to be built into the game just wasn't up to snuff."
Of course, that does the leave the door open for DLC at a later date.
Fable III launches on Xbox 360 on 29th October. The PC version needs a little more work.

Atari is plucking another franchise out of its deep archive bin for revival on modern platforms. Classic Atari 2600 space shooter Star Raiders is coming to PS3, 360 and PC early next year.
Star Raiders was, for its time, an ambitious first-person space quest that let players travel around a large space map shooting enemy aircraft.
The new game is said to retain much of the same core gameplay elements, albeit with 20+ years of technical advancement thrown in. Galactic tactical maps and space warps will return, and be enhanced by customisable ships and "radical battle transformations," according to GameSpot.
The new game will also boast an episode storyline to tie the whole thing together, plus online co-op for the main campaign and competitive team-based multiplayer.

Crytek has begun sending out invites to the Crysis 2 multiplayer beta, which apparently kicks off "very soon".
There are no details on exactly what will be in the beta, Crytek only confirming that it'll be exclusive to Xbox 360 players "this time around", according to an email which lets members of the MyCrysis website stick their names on the list. But only "valued community" will be let in, so if you fall into the 'worthless community' sector, don't even bother.
"As part of our continuing Crysis 2 development we will be performing a multiplayer test starting very soon," reads the email. "For this test we will be inviting various community members to take part and help us push the game to its limits so we can make any adjustments necessary and ensure that we deliver the gameplay experience we know everyone wants to see!"
Exciting times.

The Dead Space 2 Collector's Edition will contain a replica Plasma Cutter gun, "art cell", soundtrack, downloadable armour and a copy of the game.
Amazon - an official pre-order destination - provided the listing before EA presumably intervened and had it torn down. Luckily, Examiner saved a picture of the Collector's Edition before that happened.
Dead Space 2 will be released on 28th January 2011. The game was playable at the recent Eurogamer Expo 2010.
The new story follows heroic spaceship engineer Isaac Clarke as he attempts to rid space station Scrawl of the Necromoprh. He was successful on overrun ship USG Ishimura, and so he's expected to succeed again. But like John Rambo, he's a bit shaken up.
EA is building up to release with Dead Space Ignition, a downloadable Choose Your Own Adventure-style blend of comic and puzzle that's available on PSN and XBLA today. Ignition costs either £4.99 or 400 Microsoft Points.

If you fancy yourself an Xbox Live Indie Games developer, you might have noticed a change to the XNA Creators Club today. In conjunction with the unveiling of Windows Phone 7, it appears that Microsoft has quietly changed the Creators Club to the much more generalized "App Hub." The site purports to offer resources for developers to create applications for both Windows Phone 7 and Xbox 360, though the site currently seems to favor the former.
In fact, the Education Roadmap section -- which introduces would-be programmers to XNA Game Studio -- only offers tutorials for Windows Phone 7. Of course, it's understandable that Microsoft would want to recruit as many programmers as possible for its new baby. There are still examples and code snippets for Windows and Xbox 360 programming, but hopefully we'll see some more robust introductory tutorials in the future.

It has come to our attention that one of Lord Vader's emotionally conflicted "Starkiller" clones has escaped. Again. We are currently unable to acquiesce to any transfer requests, and advise troopers who encounter Vader's twirling pet to remain calm, even in the face of his terrifying "dual-wielding" of lightsabers (see: ELEGANT WEAPONS chapter in "CIVILIZED AGES, THIRD EDITION"). Firing upon him is foolish and is not recommended under any circumstances whatsoever. Note: A self-inflicted wound from a deflected laser bolt will NOT count toward your appalling accuracy rating.
If an encounter is unavoidable and you somehow survive, you will most likely require medical attention. Be sure to bring any severed limbs to the medical bay along with your person. While it is preferable that arms and legs match the serial number of the torso, there is some degree of convenient interchangeability offered by the fact that you're all clones. Complaints of mismatched items being "gross" will not be tolerated.

High street games retailer GAME has sold out of its initial allotment of Kinect units, weeks before Microsoft's new system has even launched.
A message on its website reads "We've hit our limit for launch but you can still pre-order for a priority place in the queue. As soon as we have more stock in, we will make sure we get your order to you."
Amazon has stopped taking pre-orders, but it is still available at HMV.co.uk and Play, although the latter comes with a caveat that any orders may not ship on launch day.
Last month, Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg predicted that Kinect would sell more than three million units before the end of 2010. Looks like it's well on its way.
Kinect launches on 10th November, priced around £129.99.

More excitingly, Rocky Horror Picture Show songs are on the way on 26th October. It's only my favourite musical of all time. Yes that's news. Bundled are "Time Warp", "Sweet Transvestite" and "Hot Patootie", and they'll cost 440 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360, £3.99 on PS3 and 550 Wii Points on Wii.
