The last few Pro Evolution Soccer fans will finally jump ship when FIFA Street hits, says EA.
Speaking to MCV at a showcase for the five-a-side spin-off game – which arrives on March 16th on Xbox 360 and PS3 – creative director Gary Paterson said Street will convert players of rival Konami football game PES.
"We’re hopeful that maybe the last remaining hardcore PES group of players will be interested in FIFA Street," he said.
"We’ve been round Europe and there were a few PES journalists there who were really getting into the game too. So we’re hopeful that we can use Street as a way to introduce people that love football video games into the EA Sports family.
"Also, maybe some other players see FIFA as being a bit intimidating for them, and we’re hopeful these are looking for a more casual experience. It’s a way for people to have their first experience in the world of football gaming and maybe in the future they can go on to be FIFA gamers."
There are at least four FIFA titles due out this year, including FIFA Football for Vita on February 22nd and FIFA Street on March 16th. If past years are anything to go by, a UEFA Euro 2012 Championships tie-in will launch in the summer, followed by FIFA 13.
“We’re hopeful that it’s going to be a big year for FIFA,” added Paterson. “The first FIFA Street games did reasonably well, so even if we get half of what they did we’ll be quite happy.”

Double Fine director says developers are turning their back on closed platforms
Microsoft must heed warning signs that independent developers are turning their back on Xbox Live Arcade in favour of more open platforms, Double Fine founder Tim Schafer has said.
Schafer told Industry Gamers that the results of a recent survey of some 100 indie games developers should not be overlooked.
Statistics from a developer questionnaire, published October last year, suggested that an increased number of game creators were turning away from XBLA in favour of other platforms such as PSN, iOS and Steam.
Schafer, who recently announced that his crowdsourced adventure game will be published on PC and mobiles only, said Microsoft shouldn’t ignore the data.
"I was hoping that would be a really, really eye-opening article for the console manufacturers and I feel like it's been totally dismissed,” he said.

We're trying to be careful not to get people too excited and then have to go and disappoint them'
Gabe Newell is acutely aware of how frustrating the studio’s lack of news on Half-Life 3 is for fans, the Valve boss has said.
In an interview with Penny Arcade, Newell said that after the notorious development delays of Half-Life 2, the developer was wary of hyping up a new title too early on.
“We’re acutely aware of how much we annoy our fans and it’s pretty frustrating to us when we put them into that situation,” he said.
“We try to go as fast as we can and we try to pick the things that we think are going to be most valuable to our customers and if there’s some magic way we can get more work done in a day then we’d love to hear about it.”
He added: “Part of the reason that we backed off talking so much about what was happening in the future is that when we’ve done that in the past, you know, with Half Life 1 it was a year after we originally said it would be.

Microsoft's version of Google Goggles coming to its own OS.
The feature is built into the Bing search component of Windows Phone and will recognise QR codes, Microsoft tags, barcodes, CDs, DVDs, and books when they are placed in front of the phone's camera.
In a few weeks, the tech will also also identify print versions of magazine and newspaper articles and then link the user to digital versions.
It's available as a free update for users of Lumia et al, and is activated with a tap of the search icon and then a tap of the eye icon which pops up at the bottom of the screen.

February 19th, 2012, 23:45 Posted By: wraggster
Swizzy released a new version of his GUI for xeBuild:
[QUOTE]
Overview - What it does:
- This is a frontend/GUI for xeBuild, what it does is make it easy
for you to select most options that you might need, such as Motherboard,
SMC hack for freeboot, image type etc. etc.
- It is able to check what SMC hack you have previously used for JTAG
it's also able to tell you what SMC version you have, and if it's a
JTAG, Clean/Retail, Glitch or Cygnos patched SMC
- If you put any of these files next to the executable it'll use them
automaticly:
SMC.bin - Custom SMC of your choice; ONLY USE THIS OF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!!
Xell.bin - Custom Xell of your choice; ONLY USE THIS OF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!!
cpukey.txt - It'll read first line of this file, if it starts with "cpukey" it'll read the
last 32 characters from that line (removing any extra spaces) otherwise it'll read the first
32 characters of that line (removing any extra spaces)
FUSE.txt - It'll parse it as if it was saved from Xell using network...
flashdmp.bin - It'll load this as source nand
Default.xml - It'll load any preset settings from this file
options.ini - It'll load any custom settings from this (for xeBuild)
launch.ini - Settings for Dashlaunch, if you choose to use this setting it'll include this file
in the generated image
What's new/fixed (since v1.1):
- Fixed: When re-loading settings it now properly sets advanced mode, like it should...
- Fixed: I forgot to pack the ECC files prior to releasing 2.0 RC1, they are now included properly, sorry about that one...
** NOTE: as some of your may have noticed in previous build/this build there are some spaces where there is nothing, well there is... they're just hidden for the time beeing as i've prepared the GUI for upcomming features in next xeBuild **
- Changed: Completly rebuilt the app from scratch, the old code base became one big mess hard to keep track of, and update, with the new codebase also comes a completly rebuilt GUI the new version includes dual mode, Simple/Advanced and quite alot of new features along with a couple of easter eggs
- Changed: CPUKey/1BLKey/DVDKey only supports hexadecimal input (A-F, a-f and 0-9) aswell as backspace/delete (it'll catch what you type when you do so with your keyboard, copy 'n' paste will allow you to fill in whatever, but only 32 characters of it NOTE: there is a secondary check aswell, so you cannot input anything else then a "proper" key no matter what
- Removed: Patch SMC setting, it's not needed and can confuse you (it was automaticly used for glitch machines if your smc is a retail one even if you haven't selected it anyways, making it a useless option to have)
- Added: Option to also include any harddrive that windows calls "Fixed" harddrive (Non-Removable device) for the update downloader...
- Added: Information if the device is shown as Removable or Non-Removable by windows for the update downloader...
- Changed: True/False on MD5 matches is now displayed in bold and color formatet (Green for True and Red for false) to make it easier to see the results
- Changed: "Type of image" is now "Build type" to make it easier to understand that this will be output image type
- Fixed: Update downloader now works properly, dunno how it slipped by, but i had set it to remove the first 2 characters of the drive string (when unpacking the update), meaning the important parts, fixed now tho
- Changed: The app now dynamically add Dashboard versions based on dashfiles.xml, etheir the one located with the app or one that has been downloaded to %appdata%\Swizzy\xeBuild_GUI\
- Changed: Moved most download features to a tab on the right hand side of the program among these is the update downloader...
- Added: Keyvault dumping/decryption, thanks to LegendaryFire for his NandApi source!
- Added: I've added support for canceling downloads, the app will no longer crash when you close the program whiles it's downloading something...
- Added: You can now select if you want to have verbose output from xeBuild rather then having minimum (this will cause the log to be full of information)
** NOTE: Verbose output from xeBuild is only available in Advanced mode... **
- Fixed: The app no longer overwrites an already existing log, it'll read the old log and put it infront of the old one...
- Changed: i've rewritten the warning messages about formatting your drive along with adding an extra check just to make sure you don't automaticly click yes as this WILL remove ANY data you have on the device!
- Fixed: When formatting a usb drive using the avatar updater it will no longer lock the drive, it will however clear any label you have on it...
- Added: Support for building ECC images aswell, this disables ALL options except for those related to the app itself and of course motherboard/type, if you need to use CDjasper, just select jasper, otherwise select which ever one you like that isn't disabled NOTE: i have made NO modifications to the build.py script (apart from adding 1BLKey) so it should work to switch it out at a later time without problems, but do remember to copy over the 1blkey if it's needed )
** NOTE: If your Jasper has CB 6751 it'll automatically enforce using a donor CB 6750 **
- Added: Semi automatic selection, if you are doing an upgrade the app will now automaticly select all the options for you when you select source nand (it cannot select JasperSB(if 16mb dump) or Jasper256/Jasper512(if 66mb dump))
** NOTE: You can disable this feature if you like, but this requires that you first start the progam without loading any nand! OR manually editing the default.xml file**
- Added: The app can (and will if the files are missing) download and install dashfiles for you meaning even if the files aren't with the release it can download them for you if you have internet and you don't have to look for them yourself!
** NOTE: It won't start the download on it's own, just prompt you to do it **
- Changed: When checking the motherboard version etc. it'll now tell you what type of jasper you have
- Changed: Jasper 16Mb SB is now limited to advanced to make it easier for newbies to understand it's for advanced users if you have a machine that requires this you should know about it already, thus be a more advanced user
- Changed: Updated launch.ini to reflect changes in new dashlaunch...
- Changed: CPUKey is now grabbed the same way the console does from fuses
- Changed: When reading cpukey.txt it reads the last 32 characters of the first line if it starts with "CPUKey" or the 32 first characters in all other cases
- Added: The gui now checks the exitcode of xeBuild to instead of checking for output, if it gives an error of any kind it'll tell you what it probably is...
- Added: The app can now generate launch.ini for you (NOTE: This feature is limited to advanced mode)
- Changed: The app now use dashlaunch 2.29
- Removed: The app now accepts ANY value for temperature tresholds; BEWARE! i take NO responsibility for damage on your console due to bad settings, the feature of customizing xeBuild settings is limited to Advanced mode because you should really know what you are doing before you go about changing stuff here!
- Added: 7zip is now Embedded in the app making it ALOT harder for you to mess with the parts that deal with downloading/unpacking zip/rar files
-=*=- There are probably more changes i've done that i can't think of right now, consider them easter eggs -=*=-

J-Runner is an all new JTAG/RGH app has been in development for a number of weeks by members of Team Jungle & Team Xecuter.
Currently being hammered and tweaked by 30+ members of the teams, J-Runner will become the De facto choice for all JTAG/RGH modders much like Jungle Flasher has been for all Firmware enthusiasts.
Here is a screen shot of an earlier beta to give you an idea of what it will look like. We also slipped in a few official details of the Xecuter DemoN project.
In the meantime Xecuter has welcomed several new colleagues on to the team due to the current massive workload. Current projects include the 1175 fw, Xenon RGH, Corona RGH & 6752 CB along with several new hardware projects.
There will be many surprises in store over the next few weeks.

C4Eva reported on IRC he completed a Livelog on the new dashboard and it should be safe for modified DVD firmwares (iXtreme v3 or v2.x for non-AP25 drives):
NOTE: While the new dash seems safe for CFWs, it does however currently make the RGH impossible. But people are working on a solution and Team Xecuter already announced they will probably have a fix ready for SLIM consoles soon.

A new Xbox 360 dashboard update that went live in the US yesterday has given the Xbox Live Indie Games channel added prominence. The service is now visible on the "top level" of the Marketplace section right next to tabs for Xbox Live Arcade and Games on Demand. The November dashboard overhaul had hidden it behind an additional 'Game Type' button, causing a number of XBLIG developers to publicly voice their discontent at Microsoft's marginalisation of the service.A statement handed to Eurogamer by Microsoft today, and due to be posted on the AppHub Forums and XNA Community blog in due course, explained that the move reflected that feedback."As you've now noticed, the Xbox Live Marketplace was updated to change the way games are surfaced to customers," it read."Microsoft is continually working to better organise our digital game content on the platform and your feedback played a part in that."Part of this new organisation means that Xbox Live Indie Games now has a tile on the top level of the marketplace right next to Xbox Live Arcade and Xbox Games on Demand."Inside of the new Xbox Live Indie Games section, you'll notice that there are New Release, Top Download, A-Z, and Genre options, as well as a rotating carousel that shows off Kotaku's Picks, Contest Finalists, and can be used to house other content as desired."This update is something we are extremely excited about as it really brings Xbox Live Indie Games to a higher level of visibility in the dashboard. We believe these changes will help even more gamers find and experience the great offerings you've all developed for Xbox Live Indie Games."So, good news for XBLIG developers. However, there's one caveat. At present, the update has only been applied in North America. A Microsoft spokesperson was unable to confirm if or when the changes will roll-out in Europe.

Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivioninvite you to participate in their joyous union on April 3 in North America. Bethesda's double pack will feature the standard edition of both games, at $29.99 for Xbox 360 or $19.99 for PC.
Bethesda isn't allowed to release the double pack on PS3, Pete Hines told Joystiq. "We will continue to work to try to change that, but at present it is still not approved," he said. "We would like to release a PS3 version a well."
Seeing as Fallout 3 launched in 2008 and Oblivion in 2006, it's about time they settled down, found a partner and relinquished their previous $60 lifestyle. Of course the age gap may upset a few people since two years is, like, 80 years in video game time, but they'll get over it. While they're buying the double pack, probably.

The Indie Games section of Xbox Live has been a point of contention for indie developers since its launch, in part because the app was hard to find and confusing to navigate. Microsoft has since made improvements -- with the most recent dashboard update, even -- but a group of indie devs and industry enthusiasts are speeding up the process with a new app for Windows Phone, tentatively called the XBLIG Companion.
The XBLIG Companion scrapes the RSS feeds of XboxIndies.com and gathers the XML and CSV data for every applicable game, updating the app's listings as the games are updated themselves. XBLIG Companion will offer easy browsing of Xbox Indie Games' selection and will allow users to purchase games for their consoles directly from their phones.
Created by Casey Young and organized by Dave Voyles, XBLIG Companion is currently in beta testing -- anyone with a Windows Phone 7 can check out the prototype now by contacting Dave [at] ArmlessOctopus [dot] com, and leaving feedback right here. Now that wasn't so difficult, was it, Microsoft?

We're not even ashamed to admit we're excited about "DragonballZ Kinect," an unannounced game rated by Korea's Game Ratings Board. Usual Dragon Ball Zgame publisher Bandai Namco is listed as the publisher for this game.
It's not hard to imagine a Kinect-based Dragon Ball Z game, all yelling into the microphone to "power up" your character, making wild flailing motions to throw Kamehameha Waves and Spirit Bombs at smirking, airborne jerks with tall hair, and maybe even walking in place to pantomime the destructive stomps of a crazed space gorilla.
Whatever we imagine this game includes, the real thing's going to be so much goofier. We can't wait to find out.

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD has been available on PSN since last December, but its 2.1 gigabyte file size -- just .1 gigs over Microsoft's XBLA file size limit -- has prevented it from seeing the insides of the Xbox Live Marketplace. Though Just Add Water has been in talks with Microsoft to publish the game itself, it sounds like the developer will be making some alternative accommodations.
"We've basically run everything dry in terms of going some kind of first-party route with Microsoft, be it them publishing it or be it us publishing it ourselves," said Just Add Water CEO Stewart Gilray during an interview with VG247. "So we're now having to go down the third-party route."
The developer is in talks with "two or three" publishers and hopes to have more information to announce by Easter, although Gilray did not give specifics regarding which publishers may be interested in helping the cause. It's unclear how working through a third-party publisher will aid in resolving (or circumnavigating) the game's size issue, but we're glad to see that Just Add Water is still trying.

Remember those color problems experienced by some Xbox 360 users after last year's dashboard update? Microsoft appears to have fixed the issue in its latest system update, although it will take time for the fix to roll out across the associated apps -- we've been told this will happen over the next few months. Its Sony rival also rolled out its own (optional) update for the PS3 yesterday, improving "certain aspects" of the UI. The Xbox team promise that their update will also increase performance, but don't take their word for it; the update is rolling out now -- let us know how it goes.

Ubisoft has confirmed the ongoing development of Assassin's Creed III, which is set for release on October 30.
Host platforms weren’t announced, but the game is expected to launch on Xbox 360, PS3, PC and possibly Wii U. It will be the fifth core series entry in a franchise that has sold over 30 million units since the original debuted in November 2007.
The title was announced byUbisoft CEO Yves Guillemot during a third quarter conference call with investors. He said the “fabulous” looking project has been in development for three years and that Ubisoft is investing more money in the game than it has in any other series entry to date, IGN reports.
"Assassin's Creed 3 is the true next generation of both theAssassin's Creed brand and interactive entertainment/storytelling in general," Guillemot added, according to Joystiq.
While no further details have officially been announced, CVGrecently reported that the game is set to feature a new protagonist and be set during the American Revolution.
Earlier today, Ubisoft also announced a September 7 release date for Far Cry 3.

Oh you crazy, crazy marketers, what with your inability to line up announcement times and what have you. Adorable, we say! For instance, Sega's big reveal of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 probably wasn't intended for as inauspicious a venue as the Xbox Live Marketplace, but here we are with a whole mess of new screens and several new details about the game itself. A-dorable.
Anyway, according to the Xbox Live Marketplace listing, Sonic 4 Episode 2 will feature online and offline co-op play with Tails, all set in an "all new game engine" with updated physics. The blurb further promises "four brand new Zones" and a "new special stage." From the shots that were released thus far, it's looking like Sonic and Tails should pack an extra pair of snow boots!
