We love getting maps in game boxes. Unfortunately, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim doesn't come with one. So here's how you can make your own.
The folks on GameBanshee (thanks Kotaku) have gone to the trouble of annotating every last area and landmark on a high-res map of Skyrim.
That's not all. They've also prepared an enormous 9-page PDF version that's set up to be printed out as a 3x3 poster on your wall.
Then, if you're really nerd...we mean hardcore, all you need to do is brown up the paper with a little black tea, ruffle the edges and you'll have a proper Skyrim map.

We'll admit it -- the Xbox Live Black Friday deals aren't exactly as thrilling as the competition's are, but there are still some big savings to be had. Take, for instance, the massively discounted Marvel vs Capcom 2 for just 320 MS Points ($4!), or Fallout 3's Games on Demand release -- sans DLC -- at 25 percent off (pricing varies by region -- $22.49 in the US). Those are both pretty solid deals!
Microsoft's Major Nelson also promises more deals this coming "Cyber" Monday, so if today's offers aren't as exciting as you'd hoped, there'll be even more in the coming days. Oh, and there's always the week-long XBL sale that Microsoft is running -- Super Meat Boy is still only $5 and still really great!

Microsoft has embraced hacker culture for Kinect, and it now sees the vast possibilities offered by a machine that requires people to just twitch or shout for it to function. Microsoft is now planning to integrate Kinect into next-generation televisions, The Daily reports (citing anonymous "sources familiar with the subject"), completely destroying the all-American pastime of searching for the remote. But that's not the most shocking part -- The Daily says Microsoft may be in "early stages of licensing" its Kinect tech to Vizio and Sony, whose Electronics branch produces high-def hardware.
Sony Electronics, in charge of Sony TVs, is a separate entity from Sony Computer Entertainment, which handles its video-game business, but this potential partnership seems awkward at best, and ludicrous at best-er. We won't believe it until a tangible product materializes, but until then, we're going to imagine the ridiculous company parties that could result from this rumored venture.

Xbox UK’s new retail sales and marketing boss says the 360 has a lot more mileage left in it.
In fact Jonathan Grimes tells MCV in an interview this week he won’t be happy until every household has an Xbox.
“There’s definitely a lot more to achieve,” he offered as an update on Xbox global boss Don Mattrick’s E3 prediction that 360 would end the year as the world’s best-selling console.
“What we have to offer is relevant to most UK consumers – until I have one in every household there is always going to be growth.”

The latest rumours concerning Microsoft’s next Xbox console suggest that the company may launch an entry-level machine that is not compatible with disc-based games.
As it has done with Xbox 360, DigitalFoundry reports that Microsoft will look to launch its new machine in two iterations. However, the distinction between the two models could be far more pronounced than anything we’ve seen before.
The site speculates that the lower-cost, entry-level machine will be “positioned more along the lines of a set-top box”, with as much focus on digital content services like Sky, Netflix and ESPN as there is placed on games.
Extra features such as an optical drive, hard drive and backward compatibility would then be reserved for the higher-end SKU.
On addition, it is said that Microsoft already has many of its key staff in place in preparation for a migration from Xbox 360.
“We know that Microsoft has a range of next-gen teams assembled, with core personnel like creative director [and Kinect creator] Kudo Tsunoda in charge,” it claims.
“We also know that 343 Industries has recruited some of the leading lights in graphics engineering, such as principle engine programmer Corrinne Yu, who has also participated in the development of DirectX 11 – known to be the core rendering API that powers the next-gen Xbox.”

Microsoft is likely to pursue a two SKU strategy for its next Xbox console.
That's according to a Digital Foundry report on GamesIndustry.biz, which says the platform holder is expected to take the two model approach much further with its new console. It will reportedly offer a "pared down system to be released as cheaply as possible, and positioned more along the lines of a set-top box (the use of 360 as a Netflix viewing platform in the US is colossal) and perhaps as a Kinect-themed gaming portal".
This would be released alongside "a more fully-featured machine with optical drive, hard disk and backward compatibility aimed at the hardcore would be released at a higher price-point", the site adds.
It also claims Kinect is likely to receive a significant upgrade, and will more than likely be bundled with the console.
When the next Xbox will be announced and released has recently been the subject of heightening speculation. Microsoft is rumoured to be planning to make the first official announcements about its next-gen Xbox at the CES expo in January 2012, while Edge has heard from sources that the system may launch as early as next year.
Sony has clearly been keeping an ear on all the speculation, with European PlayStation boss Jim Ryan saying this week that it would be "undesirable to [launch] significantly later than the competition".

November 25th, 2011, 00:31 Posted By: wraggster
As PlayStation Move sales reportedly close in on Kinect's, Ubisoft has suggested Microsoft should rethink its motion control software release strategy.
Kinect sold an average of 133,333 units per day - a total of eight million units - in its first 60 days on shelves, between November 4, 2010 and January 3, 2011, and went on to hit ten million sales in March. While Kinect's current sales total is unclear - IndustryGamers reckons it has yet to hit 11 million units, which seems a little hard to believe - what is apparent is that adoption has stalled since last year's holiday period. Meanwhile, Sony's Move may have been slower out of the gate, but it recently reached the nine million sales mark, according to the site.
Ubisoft VP of marketing Tony Key suggested the Kinect sales pattern is unhealthy for the wider industry, and urged Microsoft to offer better year-round support for the platform.
"It's not healthy to just sell in the holiday, or 90 percent of your units in the holidays," he said. "We would really like to see them have some major launches during the non-holiday part of the year.
"That will help keep the visibility of the machine high and enable better catalogue sales throughout the year, and also give us the opportunity to launch some things throughout the year.
"We put out Michael Jackson: The Experience in April and we would love to continue to have Kinect games come out all year long," Key added, "but we need support from first-party [Microsoft] also on that front."
Microsoft is clearly gearing up for strong Kinect sales again this Christmas, having launched Dance Central 2 and Kinect Sports 2 last month, and Kinect Disneyland adventures a few weeks ago.

Microsoft is reportedly in the early stages of getting motion-sensor Kinect into TVs.Microsoft is talking to TV makers including Sony about licensing its Kinect tech, The Dailyreports. If a deal is worked out, we may see Kinect in next-generation TV sets, enabling gesture and voice TV controls. The Daily speculates that a Kinect-enabled TV would probably network with local PCs running the next version of Windows. It suggests future TVs may even be able to recognise individuals and resume shows. On 6th December Microsoft will push out its redesigned Xbox 360 dashboard, which improves the way players can use Kinect to interact with their console.Sources told the site that Microsoft wants to "aggressively push the Kinect into as many living rooms as possible, even those without its Xbox 360 gaming systems".Clearly, Microsoft sees a life outside of the Xbox for Kinect. It this week announced improved Kinect hardware for the Windows version, due out early next year. One rumour currently doing the rounds is that Microsoft will release an Apple TV-rival product of its own late next year with Kinect built in.Kinect for Xbox 360, which launched in November 2010, is the fastest-selling consumer electronics device ever, and has shifted 10 million units.

Microsoft is investigating complaints about its Xbox Live customer service - in particular those about refunds associated with what it insists is "phishing related fraud".It vowed to resolve refund issues as soon as possible.Today The Sun followed up its front page "XBOX CYBER FRAUD" story with a fresh report focusing on "angry gamers" who have "slammed" Microsoft for "dragging its heels" over refunds.Victims quoted in the story denied clicking on phishing websites or giving out personal details - and suggested Microsoft was under attack from gangs in China and Russia. One gamer, Jon Goff, said: "This is sinister. I haven't provided crooks with any details. How are they getting into our accounts?"Speaking to Eurogamer today, Microsoft apologised to anyone who has not received a good service from its customer service team."As we commented on Tuesday, the Xbox Live service has not been hacked," a spokesperson said."However, we are investigating a number of recent customer complaints relating to Xbox Live customer service - particularly in the way that we have processed refunds to customers that have been victims of phishing related fraud."Consequently, we are taking several steps to address and resolve these particular issues as soon as possible and working closely with our affected customers to investigate and resolve any unauthorized charges made to their accounts resulting from recent phishing scams."Finally we would like to apologise to any customers who have not experienced a good service from us."Earlier this month Microsoft told Eurogamer the recent spate of Xbox Live account hijackings involving unauthorised FIFA Ultimate Team pack purchases were not due to a system exploit or hack.Microsoft's online safety director Doug Park insisted that the problem didn't represent "a new attack vector"."It's not a hack, it's really just a different way to monetise stolen accounts," he explained."Any service has compromises. Facebook has compromises, WOW has compromises. What they're really doing is trying to make money off those compromises. So FIFA is a very popular title - it's just a new way for the bad guys to make money. It wasn't, based on our investigation... we didn't see anything new. It was just a different avenue."Park suggested that a run-of-the-mill data phishing scam was the cause, though wouldn't go into specifics. The FIFA issue first raised its head last month, when a significant number of users reported that their accounts had been taken over by cyber thieves and were being used to purchase FIFA Ultimate Team content packs, presumably for re-sale.At the time, Microsoft announced that it was "working with our impacted members directly to resolve any unauthorised changes to their accounts."

November 25th, 2011, 00:26 Posted By: wraggster
Rockstar is fitting Max Payne 3 with familiar shooter mechanics cover, and over-the-shoulder zoom aiming."We've introduced a left trigger, over the shoulder aiming feature that most games have, where you can sort of zoom in a bit closer and aim more precisely on your target at the expense of your ability to move around quickly," art director Rob Nelson told GameSpot."So we added that, and we've added a cover mechanic, but those are ancillary additions to the core of the game, which is still very much the run and gun."Max Payne 3, like the Max Paynes before it, also has bullet-time."As far as the way bullet-time works now, compared to the way it worked in the old games - and what the greatest addition, enhancement is - it works pretty much the same," Nelson said."It's still there for players to use as a tool to slow-down time to give them an advantage over their enemies when things get hectic, which they do all the time. And that is something that we really needed to keep - allowing players to have that control."It really, it hasn't changed," he added. "But yet it looks and feels completely different because of the depth at which we've integrated it."Max Payne 3 also retains shoot-dodge, which refers to Max jumping all over the place trying to avoid bullets. You can even stay grounded after a dive, which enables you to shoot 360 degrees around you.Helping all of this look realistic is the improved Euphoria engine - the same one used for Grand Theft Auto 4 and Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar has blended physics and animation, so that when Max dives around, he does so appropriately according to his surroundings.Shooting enemies in Max Payne 3 looks more realistic than in other Rockstar games, too."As far as Euphoria, it's basically a set of behaviours that you can tune, and so it's really how much effort you put into that. With Max, we put a lot of effort into the different aspects of Euphoria and how we use it. So there's the hit-reacts for the enemies - we sort of evolved that and made them feel more connected," explained Nelson."I think we had a good jump from GTA4 to Red Dead, and you're going to see another good jump from Red Dead to Max, where you want individual shots to react properly, you want people to fall realistically."We're always pushing it. Plus we have bullet-cams and things like that."Max Payne 3 is being made internally at Rockstar. Max Payne 1 and Max Payne 2 were made by Alan Wake developer Remedy Entertainment.

Barcelona and Argentina football star Lionel Messi has been signed by EA as its new “global face of the EA Sports FIFA franchise”.
The move is all the more significant as superstar Messi has in recent years been the face of rival Konami’s PES series.
Messi’s first FIFA appearance will be as the cover star of the upcoming FIFA Street. In addition to this the nippy forward will become a “cornerstone” of the brand’s marketing efforts.
EA said of the deal: "The biggest transfer deal this football season sees the FIFA Ballon d'Or 2010 winner transfer to EA Sports and make his debut in March, 2012 on the cover of FIFA Street."

November 24th, 2011, 00:14 Posted By: wraggster
Sony has narrowed the European release window for Telltale's episodic Jurassic Park on PlayStation Network, after European console versions missed the game's US simultaneous release date promised across all platforms.A story-led adventure spun off from the original Jurassic Park film, Telltale's title was originally planned to launch episodically for PC and Mac from April this year.Gamers who pre-ordered the title were informed by Telltale in an April 25th email that Jurassic Park had been delayed until Autumn, allowing the game to be launched in its entirety and "simultaneously on every platform".A simultaneous worldwide 15th November launch date for PC and Mac was later announced, with US PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions confirmed for then too.Jurassic Park is now available to download in its entirety for PC and Mac, while the first episode has been made available on iPad.Release dates for the console versions in Europe have yet to materialise however. The PlayStation 3 version, available as a download via PSN, will launch "very soon... before the end of the year," PSN Store staff member Andy Stewart revealed today on the EU PlayStation blog. "Bad news - I can't announce the offical release date yet, sorry," he said.Xbox 360 gamers get Jurassic Park as a disc-based release, presumably due to the game's file size hitting Xbox Live Arcade's 2GB limit. It launched in US shops last week on the 15th, although Telltale has yet to announce when it will cross the Atlantic. Is Jurassic Park's European PSN launch being held up by Microsoft's policy of refusing to publish games released on PSN first, as exposed by Eurogamer earlier this year?Eurogamer asked Telltale for comment and will update when we hear back.Dan Whitehead survived Eurogamer's Jurassic Park: The Game review to deal out a disappointing 4/10 score earlier today: "You can hardly blame Telltale for trying something different, given the enormous number of licensed games it's undertaking right now, but Jurassic Park has neither the charm nor ingenuity that the studio is known for," he wrote.

Just in case you didn't get a chance to wander around the Earth, post asteroid-smash, in id's Rage earlier this year, you can give the game a taster without investing any of your hard-earned cash (well, beyond an XBL Gold membership). The game's demo is now available on Xbox Live, and is expected out on PSN on December 6.
If you like what you see, don't forget that the title can be found in most Black Friday sales this weekend -- most retailers have it offered up for about $30 or so. And if you agree a little more with our review (that there are probably better games of this ilk out there right now), well hey, at least there are better games of this ilk out there right now, right?

The Test Drive series will continue next year with a Ferrari-centric driving game. publisher Bigben Interactive announced the acquisition of distribution rights for Test Drive: Ferrari, which it will release in Europe on March 20, for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
Eurogamer speculated that this game is a project by Need for Speed: Shiftdeveloper Slightly Mad Studios, long in development. NeoGAF user BADNED seems to have some inside info, but didn't comment on that info; however, he did share the above image, and what appear to be animated GIFs from a trailer, which you can see throughout the thread.
Bigben also announced Mayhem, a demolition derby game for Xbox 360 and PS3; a game with Sin City-style graphics "using all the clichés of the stock cars race very popular in many countries."

Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter has said he doesn't expect a new console from Microsoft until 2014.
Last week an unnamed source told Edge the next generation Xbox is likely to launch in 2012. The source went on to say a number of major studios, including Ubisoft and EA, were already working with "target boxes based on the intended specifications of Microsoft's Xbox 360 successor".Speaking to Industry Gamers Pachter said he believes "Those rumors are silly" and Microsoft will not replace the Xbox 360 "until sales begin to slow".
"I think the rumors are based upon leaks about modifying the current Xbox 360 to allow it to operate Windows 8," Pachter speculated.
He does, however, foresee a new Xbox 360 model being launched next year.
"I fully expect a new model of Xbox 360 by holiday 2012, but don't think we see a new console altogether from Microsoft until 2014."
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim director Todd Howard has said "consumers are happy" with current hardware and he doesn't expect PS4 or Xbox 720 before 2014.

Microsoft has kicked off a massive sale on Xbox Live across both the Xbox and Windows Phone 7 platforms.
The discounts slashes prices down by anywhere from 25 to as much as 67 percent, and there are some real treats on the list.Super Meat Boy, a brilliant platformer, is just 400 MS Points, as is OutRun Online Arcade. Street Fighter IV is just $10.
The list is huge, and there's more to come. Check out the full list over on Major Nelson (link below).
Sony yesterday also announced a winter sale its hosting for PlayStation Store purchases this week. It's a good time to buy games.

Though MCV contests that users falling for fake phishing emails are not Microsoft’s responsibility, the platform holder has responded to claims made in today’s copy of The Sun.
The paper this morning reported that users of the service were being robbed by online conmen.
What it failed to adequately highlight, however, was that the phishing scam in question is not a failing of Microsft’s Xbox Live service.
“The security of Xbox Live members is of the utmost importance, which is why we consistently take measures to protect Xbox LIVE against ever-changing threats,” a Microsoft spokesperson told MCV.
“In this case, a number of Xbox LIVE members appear to have recently been victim of malicious ‘phishing’ scams (ie. online attempts to acquire personal information such as passwords, user names and credit card details by purporting to be a legitimate company or person).
“As a result, we are currently:
* Working closely with affected members who have been in touch with us to investigate and/or resolve any unauthorized changes to their accounts resulting from phishing scams
* Warning people against opening unsolicited e-mails which may contain spyware and other malware that can access personal information contained on their computer without their knowledge or permission
* Reminding all customers that they should be very careful to keep all personal information secure whenever online and never supply e-mail addresses, passwords or credit card information to strangers.”
UPDATE: Microsoft has added the following, categorical statement.
"Xbox Live has not been hacked. Microsoft can confirm that there has been no breach to the security of our Xbox Live service."

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced that its Xbox 360 dashboard would be getting an upgrade "in the coming days." Today, the company has clarified that statement, declaring that the revamped interface will launch on December 6th. As we've previously noted, the update promises to bring deeper Kinect integration (including sharper voice recognition capabilities), Facebook sharing mechanisms, and a cleaner interface. Redmond also says that the fall cleanup will introduce "a wealth of new content," including live TV, music and movies, available for streaming. For now, the dashboard is still in beta, though it certainly won't be long before the masses get their hands on it.
