After clocking ten months as the top console on the NPD sales charts, Microsoft had little incentive to lower the price of the Xbox 360 this holiday. Instead, Redmond's strategy has been to partner with retailers to push sale prices, so frugal shoppers have no problem getting a deal while post-holiday pricing remains high so long as strong numbers continue.
To that end, Microsoft just announced that it moved 960,000 consoles in the US "during the week of Black Friday." When asked if that included Cyber Monday, which had some notable Xbox sales of its own, we were told, "These numbers are from Saturday, Nov. 19 through Friday, Nov. 25 and do not include Cyber Monday." Still, without the unfortunately named Cyber Monday, this represents the "biggest week of sales in Xbox history," according to internal Microsoft numbers.
Big whoop, right? What we're really curious about is Kinect. Will it manage to be one of this holiday's "must-have" gifts for a second year in a row? Considering Kinect moved an equally impressive 750,000 units in the US across standalone and bundled offerings, we're inclined to say it's getting there.

All right, so publisher THQ might have been lion about the October release date for the new Voltron XBLA/PSN game, but the wait is almost over for the latest exercise in robo-combinatorics.
The downloadable game based on the beloved cartoon (and more beloved die-cast toy) will be released today on PSN, and tomorrow on XBLA. In Voltron: Defender of the Universe, players each control one robot lion, choosing their preferred vehicle based on speed, range, and other unique stats. They then use their color-coded robocat to battle Robeasts in an isometric view.
Then, when it's time to combine, players each control their own lion as a component of Voltron. We're looking forward to finding out if we have the skill to do anything but fall over.

Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has become the first game developed in the West to receive a perfect 40/40 score from weekly Japanese consumer games mag Famitsu.
The publication asks four reviewers to score each title out of ten, with these then added together to form the overall total.
It’s the 17th game to receive perfect marks, with ten of those being awarded in the last three years.
Former developers to claim the crown include Nintendo (Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Nintendogs, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Pokemon Black and White and Skyward Sword), Nacmo (Soulcalibur), Square Enix (Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy XII, Dragon Quest IX, Konami (Metal Gear Solid 4, MGS Peace Walker), Sega (Bayonetta) and Capcom (Monster Hunter Tri).
A few Western titles have come close before, grabbing 39/40 scores.
These include Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire, Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, COD: Black Ops, Gears of War 3, and FIFA 12.

Microsoft announced back in October that it would be bringing live FiOS TV channels to the Xbox 360 (along with some offerings from Comcast), and Verizon has now finally filled in most of the specifics. As expected, you'll need both FiOS TV and internet, plus an Xbox Live Gold membership to access the "select" live channels (up to 26 depending on your TV package), but Verizon is making a special offer available to coincide with the launch. You can get its FiOS Triple Play package including FiOS internet, TV and phone, plus a year of Xbox Live Gold for $89.99 a month if you sign up before January 21st, and Verizon will also throw in the new anniversary edition of Halo. What's more, Verizon has also confirmed that the new service will make use of Kinect voice and gesture controls, and it's accepting orders for the new bundle package right now -- the service itself will be available next month.

The developer behind Activision's unloved Tony Hawk: Ride is asking for donations to help get its new Kinect project off the ground. As reported by 1Up, Chicago-based studio Robomodo has opened a Kickstarter page for a planned Xbox Live Arcade title called Bodoink, calling for generous donors to contribute to the $35,000 total it needs to proceed with development. The studio explains that it's opted for Kickstarter over the traditional publisher route so that it can retain the rights to the game."Robomite's [Robomodo's new family gaming off-shoot] normal mode of business is to create games with publisher funding. Normally the publisher will commission a developer to create a game, pay them for it, distribute it and retain all rights."With Bodoink it's all about controlling the game from beginning to end. Many developers opt to create a prototype to help get more funds. With Kickstarter it's all about finishing the entire project. Once the game is completed, it is much easier to maintain control over rights to the game as it is being shown to publishers for distribution."Kickstarter also allows the community to contribute to the project. We want to incorporate our Kickstarters creativity into the game by providing opportunities to vote on features as well as design important features of the game such as achievements."It added that, "As far as we know, we are going to be the first console game that will be funded by Kickstarter. We love this challenge and want to show other developers like us that given the right resources and savvy, a professional console game can be created by this community."There are different rewards up for grabs depending on how much you donate, ranging from stickers and free game downloads, to producer credits and the chance to name an Achievement. As seen in the trailer below, Bodoink sees you pinging your avatar around a giant pinball course by moving your body in different directions. At the time of writing, Robomodo had secured $405 towards its goal, via 13 backers.

Third-person photo shooter Beyond Good & Evil HD is the star discount in today's (hnnggghhh) "Cyber Monday" sale on Xbox Live. It's down from 800 MSP ($10) to 240 MSP -- that's $3 for one of last generation's most charming and thoughtful adventures. If you find the lack of inverted camera bothersome, perhaps you can put some of today's savings toward brain inversion surgery. It'll be worth it!
Xbox Live is also discounting three other games for today only: An assembly of three klassic fighters in Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection (400 MSP / $5), ol' sale standby Risk Factions (200 MSP / $2.50), and a game that's awesome in alliteration only, Dungeons and Dragons: Daggerdale (600 MSP / $7.50).

New motion sensor 'able to detect emotions through voice and facial expression'
Microsoft’s next generation Kinect device will be so accurate that it can lip read, it has been claimed.
Sources speaking to Eurogamer said that the device would also be able to detect emotions through the user’s tone and facial expressions.
Whilst featuring improved motion sensing and voice recognition, the Kinect 2 will also be able to send more information, offering a higher resolution charge-coupled device.
"It can be cabled straight through on any number of technologies that just take phenomenally high res data straight to the main processor and straight to the main RAM and ask, what do you want to do with it?" the source said.
The next generation Xbox, rumoured to be announced next year, will reportedly come in two different forms, with a cheaper set-top like machine and a more fully featured console with an optical drive, hard disk and backward compatibility to be released.

November 27th, 2011, 23:42 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft has rolled out yet another update to the Xbox 360 Fall 2011 Preview Dash, this time bringing it to version 2.0.14696.0. During the preview thus far, backups of MW3, for example, have been observed to flip states between working and not working — twice over. The same has been found with several other games. It’s no surprise that many are wondering just WTF is going on.
Contrary to recent rumors, however, MS has not been reverting the dae.bin change/silent update. In actuality, following the silent update of the dae.bin on retail dash 13604, it was quickly determined that MS has been issuing a series of TitleUpdates for certain games (e.g. MW3) alongside the dash updates and dae.bin changes. These TUs appear to be testing the ability for Microsoft to enable/disable triggering of AP2.5 challenges against the disc via the multi-table dae.bin. This is accomplished by patching the default.xex executable with patch files (“.xexp”s) in the TU which patch in or out the Disc ID within the xex header. When the Disc ID is present, and the game has an associated entry in the dae.bin tables, the AP2.5 challenges are triggered. Conversely, when the ID is missing, the system will not be able to find an associated entry in the dae.bin tables, and therefore no AP2.5 checks are performed. This accounts for the success of “TU trick” that people have been using to temporarily bypass the updated AP2.5 challenges (clearing the cache of existing/newer TUs and tricking the 360 into using an older TU that doesn’t patch the Disc ID into the xex).
Being ranked at #1 for Xbox LIVE activity according to the latest charts, MW3 makes an ideal candidate for these types of tests by offering the largest possible test group. Based on this, Microsoft have shown that they now have two methods by which to control whether a game is AP2.5-active. A title may be AP2.5-activated either through the addition of associated entries in the dae.bin tables, and as it now stands, by way of TitleUpdates patching in or out the Disc ID.
Now, you may be asking yourself why MS would want to deactivate AP2.5 on a game. A team member suggested that this may be to allow MS a method for easily disabling AP2.5 for a particular game if it causes issues on retail consoles (this may coincide with the reports of retail copies failing AP2.5 challenges and showing “Disc Unsupported” errors). Purely speculating here, but testing of these TitleUpdates may also be a sign that Microsoft is preparing to issue AP2.5-enabling TUs for some of the more popular older XGD2 games beyond the original six affected (Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Fable III, Halo Reach, and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit).
*UPDATE* [2011-11-23 11:37AM UTC]
As an added note in response to questions we’ve received, the usage of TitleUpdates in (de)activating AP2.5 in no way affects c4eva’s “silver bullet” solution being implemented in iXtreme LT+ v3.0. C4eva noted in private earlier that with his solution, all current and future effort put into AP2.5 by MS is all for nothing.

November 27th, 2011, 23:39 Posted By: wraggster
C4eva shared with us in private today some further details about the upcoming iXtreme LT+ v3.0, which is now targetted for release sometime after December 6, 2011. Earlier this week, Microsoft’s Major Nelson announced December 6 as the official release date for the final version of its Fall 2011 Dashboard Update. Scheduling LT+ v3.0 for release after this date will allow c4eva and the team a chance to analyze the final update so as to ensure no additional changes to v3.0 are necessary.
With the new iXtreme LT+ v3.0, original game discs will need to be analyzed by Xbox Backup Creator in order to gain disc topology data. This data replaces the need for AP2.5/dae.bin data and enables any AP2.5 challenge to be answered correctly. C4eva noted that the topology data method is very efficient — using only 24kB of space — and extremely accurate. Due to differences between them, each game will require its own individual set of topology data. A risk of backups being detected poses itself if the same topology data is used between two different titles. This risk is mitigated by using abgx360 to make certain that the backup contains the appropriate topology data.
Backups will remain the same layout, but will either need to have the topology data inserted by the new abgx360, or be re-dumped with the new Xbox Backup Creator. C4eva reconfirmed that all current AP2.5-active XGD2 and XGD3 backups with old AP25 replay data are not backward-compatible with iXtreme LT+ v3.0 and will indeed need to be patched or re-dumped and re-burned. Non-AP2.5 titles, however, will remain unchanged and do not require re-burning.

Well, we don't know for sure that the Batcave challenge map included in the next Batman: Arkham City DLC pack isn't the one Adam West and Burt Ward called home, but it seems far more likely that we'll be beating down Gotham's worst in something a little more contemporary.
According to this tweet, the pack arrives December 20 and also includes two previously available maps: Iceberg Lounge and Joker's Carnival. No pricing information has yet been revealed, however we feel safe in assuming that the sum total will cost more than nothing and less than a hundred billion dollars.
