Though we focused last night on what's being delayed from the Xbox Live TV service, there are a couple of things we didn't have timelines for in the past to be excited about! Or, at least, for UK residents to be excited about. Like Lovefilm, which will be available tomorrow.
Having finally hammered out an agreement in October allowing access to both Silver and Gold members, the BBC will be available through Xbox Live in the UK in "early 2012." Microsoft and the BBC had better get back to hammering, though, as the actual details of the offering aren't final. "We're still working with the BBC to define exactly what we're going to be bringing, but it's going to be 2012," XBL UK product manager Pav Bhardwaj told Eurogamer. "We're working with them now to make sure it's a really compelling, strong application."
Basically, it's unclear whether the BBC app will be an implementation of the existing iPlayer app or something else. What is clear is that, as required by the BBC, it'll be free to everyone who pays license fees. "As long as you're connected to the internet it will be free to every Xbox Live customer," Bhardwaj said. Once again, that's every Xbox Live customer in the UK. Sorry, New World Whovians.

December 6th, 2011, 00:13 Posted By: wraggster
Tomorrow Microsoft launches a massive overhaul of its Xbox 360 dashboard, offering users the new Metro display, gesture and voice controls via Kinect, and Bing searches.
The new update is focused on the content users are consuming - music, video, games, and social networking - putting it in one place for ease of access.
"The content that you want, and then you consume it the way you want to, from whichever provider," offered Pawan Bhardwaj, UK product manager for Xbox Live, speaking to GamesIndustry.biz at a recent press event in London.
The interface is clean and will be instantly recognisable to anyone who has used a Windows phone recently, with the distinctive Metro tiled display. This design will also appear in the new Windows 8, demonstrating efforts on the part of Microsoft to tie together its range of products into one, instantly recognisable family of screens.
The control system has also been overhauled, allowing for use of a controller, or for those with Kinect, gestures and voice control. Bhardwaj showed off the new search, calling up related films, games and music on the screen, and, he promised, these won't be sponsored results, but natural searches.
"What there will be is advertising in the search results, so maybe the fourth or fifth one down would be an advert for something, hopefully, relatively related to the content you've searched for. Or it could just be this film is showing at the cinema, so if it's a sci-fi film and you've looked for sci-fi content it may tag it that way."
"We wouldn't move people's content, because it doesn't give the consumer a lot of confidence," he added.
Bhardwaj was also keen to show off the apps, custom built with partners like YouTube, Zune and Sky to add their content to the interface, while maintaining a consistency of look and feel. Microsoft is currently working with the BBC on a bespoke iPlayer app, for example.
"All the applications are built in that same way, which is really really nice," he pointed out.
"It's really important. One of the examples I have personally have, on my phone the applications that I download, every single one of them is different, they all work slightly differently, and it gets a bit annoying. The great thing about the Xbox is it's so similar on every single screen and every single application that it becomes really quick and easy to pick up."
Microsoft is clearly keen to maintain control over its own app marketplace, working with developers to make sure quality stays high, and said Bhardwaj, they maintain consistency with the Metro look and feel. So don't expect Angry Birds knock offs and farting reindeer any time soon.
"It's about quality and you as a consumer, what do you want to consume?"
Despite clear attempts to make the console more of an entertainment centre than a games machine, there are three new features specifically for gamers, in the form of Beacons, cloud saves and Facebook integration.
The Facebook integration allows users to post scores and times to the social networking site, whereas the Beacon is designed for multiplayer fans. The Beacon can be set to let friends know, on both XBox Live and Facebook, what you're playing and that you want company.
Another big change that Bhardwaj showed off was cloud saves, which allows games to be played continuously across different machines. Users can just upload a save to a cloud, and then log in to a friend's machine and access their save from there.
Another significant change is parental controls, which will alert parents if an unauthorised user tries to access adult content on the machine. It's a sign that Microsoft wants to be seen as a family machine, and not just a core gamer's console.
"What is really does is breathe new life into your TV and your entertainment experience, you don't have multiple devices, there's so much on here. And it's not just about the applications we're going to be launching, it's an ongoing process, so throughout 2012 we'll have more apps, so it's constant evolution."
The update will be available to Xbox 360 users via an internet download from tomorrow.

Microsoft's new dashboard for the Xbox 360 is close at hand (read our full review for the details) but not all of the video partners that were announced for the new Kinect-centric experience will be launching alongside it. As of launch December 6th the list will look basically the same as it does now, with Lovefilm and Epix joining options like Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Sky Go. Later on in the month more new providers like Crackle, Dailymotion, Rogers On Demand, Vudu, and Verizon FiOS TV will filter in, while the UFC app is timed to launch December 20th. Finally, a few highly anticipated additions including MLB.tv, HBO Go and Comcast's Xfinity On Demand are among those slated for arrival in "early 2012". Check after the break for the complete list (update: and a video trailer), we'll let you know about more specific launch dates as they become available.

Smartphone app allows players to browse, control and purchase Xbox media
A new app to be released on Windows Phone will grant users Xbox access via their Microsoft mobile.
Known as the ‘Xbox Companion for Windows Phone’, the free app will connect to the Xbox via Wi-Fi and allow owners to browse content catalogues, buy media, as well as view profile data and friend statuses.
Customers can search the catalogue for movies, TV shows, music, games and apps using the Windows phone. The app also doubles as a controller that can launch a movie, TV show and game on Xbox, as well as “initiate media purchases”.
The app comes part of two wider Microsoft strategies; to pass the appeal of Xbox Live onto its phone range, and to further reposition the Xbox as a wider entertainment device.
Xbox Companion is set for release on Tuesday December 6th. It is not known if it can be used outside of Wi-Fi, or if the Xbox needs to remain powered on to work.

A new WIP update of GliGli's NullDC-360 (Dreamcast Emulator) for LibXenon-homebrew 360s has been posted:
[QUOTE]
After a long dev period here's a little update about GliGli's nulldc port, on the last update, the emu was running on interpreter, and GliGli faced a big problem, there is no dynarec for the xbox 360 architecture (PowerPC), so he had to code his own
Currently the port runs at 168mhz ingame for Soul Calibur (DC Cpu speed is 200mhz). The speed is not constant during games, for example you can see on the video that Soul Calibur stage 1 isn't at that emulation speed, but the other stages are.
To Do :
- Reach full speed
- Sound Emulation
- Add Save
- Add Menu

We had a hunch -- okay, it was less a hunch and more an obvious thing to think, but here we are: Modern Warfare 3 has dominated Xbox Live activity on the week of November 21. When not chowing down on turkey and karate-chopping fools at Walmart over waffle makers, it seems most Xbox 360 players answered the call.
The second most-played game for the week was another Call of Duty game:Black Ops. It bested Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Battlefield 3 and FIFA 12, which took the remainder of the top five games played respectively. On the XBLA side,Pinball FX2, Super Meat Boy and Marvel vs Capcom 2 took top honors, thanks toMicrosoft's "Fan Appreciation" sale.

We've known since June that Konami was prepping a landing space forChoplifter HD on XBLA, PSN and PC, but it seems the convoy won't be here for some time. Or, actually, it could be tomorrow.* All we know is Konami and developer inXile Entertainment are deploying Choplifter HD sometime this "winter" and, yeah, we're technically in that winter timeframe.
In addition to the zombie mode featuring a cameo from Super Meat Boy that was introduced a few months back, Duke Nukem will also show up, along with cameos from "from some of the videogame industry's most legendary leading men." Why no women? As much as we don't want to think of Lara Croft as a decomposing zombie, it'd still be pretty neat.

Finally, a way to see some violence through your Xbox. The UFC on Xbox Live app will launch December 20, Microsoft revealed today -- a delay of almost three weeks past the previously announced date of right now.
The app allows XBL members to watch pay-per-view events (after paying, of course), control playback with Kinect, and (for Gold members) communicate with other viewers on your friends list to make predictions about the outcomes of fights, even "competing" to top the watching-UFC leaderboards.
After downloading the app, you'll have ten days to get a party together to watch UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem. And in the run-up to that smash-up, Xbox Live Gold users can watch the weigh-in and other related videos either live or through the app's "on-demand library."
Update: Microsoft told us that all XBL users can watch pay-per-view videos. Gold membership is required for live pre-fight and other supplementary videos, "Fight Picks," and the Interactive Fight Card.

Yes, beyond the XBLA-exclusive South Park: Tenorman's Revenge game on the horizon, it appears that another South Park title is in development. Fallout: New Vegas dev Obsidian is apparently working with publisher THQ to craft "South Park: The Game," an RPG set in the world of South Park. We're already imagining Cheesy Poofs buffs and plundering the depths of Casa Bonita's mysterious caverns.
According to Game Informer, who has the exclusive cover debut of the title,South Park will arrive some time in 2012. As per usual with these cover reveals, you'll find out much more in next month's issue of GI, which hits subscribers in the coming week.
Update: According to a press release from THQ, the game is also expected on PC, and should arrive in the "second half of 2012."

So, about Bethesda's latest Skyrim patch. There were, you see, some issues. Issues, like, say, dragons that flew backwards (hilarious!), and the game no longer recognizing some folks' active magic powers (significantly less hilarious!). Thankfully, Bethesda is all over it. The publisher today announced on its blog that a patch ... for the 1.2 patch that caused these issues in the first place, will arrive on PC first at some point next week, with Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 flavors to follow "later in the week."
Bethesda specifically calls out the aforementioned issues, and ambiguously adds that "other things" will get patched (no word on the VOIP issue for PS3 users, unfortunately). Patch notes will further detail the update when it arrives next week, apparently. The publisher also promises to continue updating the game in the coming months, with PC getting updates first "as that's a process we control." As always, the console patches need to go through certification with Microsoft and Sony before ending up on your box at home.
Additionally, PC users will be getting even more love in the coming months, with a promised January release of the game's dev kit (read: mod tools), as well as Steam Workshop integration, which should make finding said mods easier. No word is given yet on upcoming context expansions for the game, but, well, we've still got so much left of Skyrim that we're not really complaining.

EA's CFO Eric Brown has revealed that Battlefield 3 has sold over 8 million copies worldwide, shipping twelve million copies to retailers.
Speaking at the Baird Technology Conference in San Francisco, Brown highlighted the game's continuing healthy sales a month after launch, building on the firm base established by five million week one sales. EA are clearly hoping that this long tail will continue through the Christmas period.
Next month Battlefield 3 will receive its first map-pack update with a bundle of classic Battlefield maps from previous games in a download titled 'Back to Karkand'. Exact dates and pricing have not been announced.
