Red Dead Redemption has found unexpected success in Japan, entering the weekly all-formats chart at number four on PlayStation 3 and number seven on Xbox 360.
According to IGN, the PlayStation 3 version shifted 70,599 copies, while the Xbox 360 disc sold 25,673.
Sales didn't quite match Grand Theft Auto 4's week one Japanese tally of 160,000 back in November 2008 but nonetheless, it's an impressive result for a Western IP.
Other new entries in the Japanese chart included a disappointing debut for Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded on DS at three, while the PlayStation 3 version of F1 2010 managed to sneak at number eight.
DS RPG Pokémon Black/White holds on to the top spot. It's now sold a staggering 3,992,855 copies in the country since its release last month.
Red Dead Redemption publisher Take-Two recently announced that its awesome open-world epic has shifted a total of 6.9 million units worldwide.
