Halo 4 will have community-created mod Grifball as one of its main multiplayer modes, 343 announced at a panel at PAX Prime moments ago.The mode operates similar to footy where players try to take a ball to their team's designated goal. Players can throw the ball like a grenade and other players can catch it.The two weapons that make up this mode are the hammer and sword. The hammer grants an instant kill and has a lot of range, but when you kill the ball-bearer, the grifball will go flying. The sword meanwhile is more unwieldy, but kill someone with the grifball and it automatically gets sucked into your possession. The throwing and catching mechanics have been applied to the series' keep-away-esque Oddball mode as well.Elsewhere, Capture the Flag has altered the role of the flag-bearer a bit. Now, they wield the flagpole in one hand and a magnum or "flagnum" in the other. The flag itself can also be used for slick melee kills where players use the pole to impale their opponents.

Square Enix has announced Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, a "brand-new story and world" set for release on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013.
Revealed at a Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Event this morning , Square Enix said the game - the last entry in the "Lightning saga" - will feature the FFXIII heroine in a tense finale as a doomsday clock counts down 13 days until the end of the world. The countdown - a constant presence in the corner of the screen - will tick towards the apocalypse as players make decisions and explore the four islands of new locale Navus Partus, Square Enix explained.
Lightning herself will feature customisable looks and combat styles, the publisher added, and the combat system is described as a hybrid of both FFXIII games, with real-time elements and time-based moves that drain the doomsday countdown.
Square Enix stopped short of calling the new game an action title but said it is developing Lightning Returns with 'responsive' control input in mind.
A trailer for the title was shown off at the Japan event, though it's yet to surface online.

Amazing things are happening in the Microsoft Xbox 360 scene world recently, with alot of talk about the uncrackable Liteon 1175 drive, and now a 'leaked' POC video has appeared that has been confirmed to be from 'Team Matrix' that shows the X360 drive playing backups, without the need of an c4eva 'iXtreme' firmware.
More info has appeared on this after the leak from top reseller of 'Matrix' products:
As a first official announcement after the video showing our proprietary CFW running back-ups on the 1175 drive leaked, we have the following to say:
1) The aforementioned video is a POC (Proof of Concept), which should not be disclosed to the general public. This video is REAL.
2) Our CFW will be “stealth” on Live, and has all the features of Ixtreme (probably more).
Since the video has been leaked, we might consider it “official” now. We are going to make another one, more detailed, in order to clear up any doubts. Stay tuned!

Team Matrix has made available the Rev C of its Matrix Glitcher II. This one is still a 'complete plug and play solution' and is now compatible with Corona 256 MB.
If you didn't know, Team Matrix has made available its Matrix Glitcher II Revision C, featuring full support for 256 MB Corona consoles.
Here's the official info:
We are releasing today the Matrix Glitcher II Revision C, adding full support and compatibility for 256 MB Corona consoles.
As with the previous version the Matrix GLitcher II is still a complete plug and play solution. No need to program it before use, simply install it and select the correct switch combination for your console.
Additionally, because we discovered than Glitching the Corona needs the timing to be extremely precise, we also added a new configuration procedure using the onboard switches.
User installing the Matrix Glitcher II Revision C into a Corona will now have the possibility to test different timings to find the one that will give them the best Glitch times on the console, and all of this without need of reprogramming.

Xbox Live team puts their weight behind the LGBT-focused Kickstarter
[h=3]Xbox Live[/h]
Microsoft's Xbox Live team has released a video in support of GaymerCon, a gaming convention focused on LGBT gamers. The GaymerCon Kickstarter has already surpassed its original goal of $25,000 and currently sits above $75,000 with more than a day left in the drive.
"A closer integration of our experiences, our lives in the gaming community helps not just to expose to the other players, but also game developers, helps them develop more interesting stories, and how we are represented will become more realistic," said Xbox Live's operations lead.

Team Bondi has confimed that Whore of the Orient will be a next-generation IP.
The official blurb reads as follows:
“Shanghai, 1936. Whore of the Orient. Paris of the East. The most corrupt and decadent city on the planet, where anything can be had or done for the right price. Plaything of Western powers who greedily exploit the Chinese masses. Boiling pot of Chinese nationalism, with the Kuomintang ruthlessly trying to suppress Communism and the labour movement. Home to the International Police Force, a group of Western cops hopelessly trying to keep the lid on and keep the peace.
“From the development team who brought you LA Noire and The Getaway, along with the Academy Award winning film production team of Kennedy Miller Mitchell comes a completely new and original IP being developed for next generation games consoles and PC.”
We’ve seen plenty of games that seemingly are in development for next-gen machines (Watch Dogs, Star Wars 1313) although Bondi has become the first studio to come out loud and proud about its development plans.
The announcement reinforces two notions.
- That the next-gen consoles are very close now
- That the industry is becoming impatient with Sony and Microsoft’s unwillingness to announce them
Don’t be surprised to see other developers to follow where Bondi is seemingly leading.

Splosion Man and Comic Jumper developer Twisted Pixel has released a couple of trailers showing off gameplay of its upcoming title Lococycle, due next year on Xbox 360.The game stars a sentient high-tech motorcycle named I.R.I.S. on the run from her creators who've sent the villainous bike S.P.I.K.E. to retrieve her.Gameplay looks to be a mix of driving, shooting and some third-person hack-and-slash mechanics as I.R.I.S. can leap into the air and kick her tires like she's made of rubber.Inexplicably, she's dragging some poor sap around the entire time.Terminator 2 actor Robert Patrick is on board as the voice of S.P.I.K.E. while the less famous but no less talented Lisa Foiles looks to put a hilarious spin on the inflectionless pop-culture referencing renegade chopper.

Well, they certainly made you wait for it, but the BBC has finally delivered on its promise, bringing radio support to its Xbox 360 app. When iPlayer launched on the console in March, patient customers were initially left without access to the national network's vast catalog of audio programming. With today's 22MB update that changes, but only so long as you're sticking with archived materials. You'll have access to the catch up feature, but no live streaming (so don't expect to get your breaking news through your Xbox). You'll also be able to pick up where you left off with previously accessed programs. If you've got an urge to find out about all the work that went into the UI design, hit up the source.

Activision has resurrected the fine tradition that is the Call of Duty Prestige Edition.
For those not familiar with the SKUs, Prestige’s include both a premium price and a premium goodie. Previous years have offered night vision goggles (Modern Warfare 2) and a remote control car with video camera (Black Ops).
Last year’s Modern Warfare 3 sadly skipped a Prestige release, but Black Ops II is reigniting the idea – with a remote control flying drove helicopter.
The other inclusions in the SKU (which is officially called the Care Package Prestige Edition) are: The multiplayer Nuketown map and access to Nuketown in Zombie Mode, two PS3 themes, Limited Edition challenge coins, the soundtrack, a steelbook and exclusive weapons and player cards for the mutliplayer game.
It will retail for £159.99 in the UK (previosu Prestiges have cost £129.99) and is a GAME exclusive.
Also confirmed is a Hardened Edition that includes all of the Prestige extras minus the helicopter. That has a UK RRP of £69.99
Interestingly, neither pack includes a subscription to Activision’s Call of Duty Elite service, although Treyarch designer David Vonderhaar says that more information is coming:

Extreme sports brand Red Bull is to try its hand at video games publishing… again.
The company has announced a co-publishing agreement with Microsoft for Xbox 360 Kinect title ‘Red Bull Crashed Ice Kinect’, which is due for release some time this winter.
As long ago as 2007 it was teaming up with UK studio FreeStyleGames in an extensive in-game ad deal, and in 2009 it embarked upon its first publishing venture with a branded space and free-to-play game in Sony’s PlayStation Home.
Games seem a natural fit for Red Bull, which has evolved far beyond simply an energy drink and become on of the biggest brands in the world.
As well as running a host of own-brand events like Red Bull Rampage, X-Fighters, Flugtag and Air Race, the company also owns a number of high-profile sports teams such as Formula One teams Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Red Bull, football teams New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Leipzig and FC Red Bull Salzberg
As for the game itself, it’s dubbed as a “winter sports party game” experience and will reflect the real-life Crashed Ice sport where four skaters compete simultaneously on an icy downhill course.
“For any developer it's a huge opportunity getting their hands on a fresh IP like Crashed Ice,” Bongfish game director Michael Putz stated. “Combining the nature of this unique sport with the power of Kinect should result in an outstanding experience and evolve digital sports to its next level.”

Microsoft has taken its time to introduce free-to-play gaming on Xbox 360, but that's soon to change.
Happy WarsThe platform holder plans to publish Japanese studio Toylogic's online brawler Happy Wars as its first free-to-play game later this year, followed by action-RPG Ascend: New Gods from Toy Soldiers maker Signal Studios. Both will be available free of charge to Xbox Live Gold subscribers, but they'll "leverage the Microsoft Points system" through microtransactions.
"We're always looking at ways to push the boundaries of the console and our digital platform," a Microsoft spokesperson told our friends at OXM. "Bringing true free-to-play gaming experiences to Xbox 360 is a natural extension of that.
"With the ongoing success of the model on PC, and the interest from both our consumers and our partners looking to explore this system on console, it simply made sense to deliver this experience through great games that would take advantage of it.
"In this pilot program, Microsoft Studios will support free-to-play gaming with Happy Wars, due out in September, as well as the recently announced game Ascend: New Gods which will ship in several months.
"The free-to-play model and games experiences will be available to all Xbox Live Gold subscribers, as many of the games planned will be multiplayer games by nature (an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription is required for multiplayer gaming). The games that use the free-to-play mechanic will leverage the Microsoft Points system."
Sony was quicker than Microsoft to embrace the free-to-play model on consoles, having released the likes of Free Realms and DC Universe Online on PS3 last year.
John Smedley, CEO of Sony Online Entertainment, which developed both titles, said last month: "Free-to-play on PS3 is huge. In fact, right now, it's us with DCUO and Free Realms and our friends at CCP with Dust 514 that are going to prove that this market really works."

The PlayStation 3 snagged a new native YouTube app recently and now the Xbox 360 version has been updated, although with a different set of features. The team behind it says the new version rolling out on Xbox Live is as much as five times faster than the old one, and also has access to channels with official music videos. It should update automatically the next time (Xbox Live Gold) users log in and want to watch Gangnam Style on the big screen, or they can find the new version in the Xbox Live Marketplace -- check below for a couple of more screenshots from the new app.
