[source: team-xecuter.com] With the new 15*** update, M$ has added a new key to their hash calculation for the rc4 key. It's basically just the first 16 bytes of the header, which include the version number, entrypoint, and size. These are all per-CB, per-version, so we cannot take a keystream from a 15*** CBB and use it to make a 14*** CB because the CBA on 14*** is unable to calculate the rc4 key no matter what we change.

Xbox Live's Games on Demand service is getting a serious sale next week – as opposed to those funny, un-serious sales we get all the time – and Major Nelson has posted a list of the titles discounted from June 19-25.
All titles will be 75 percent off, and they include Conan, Dark Void, Perfect Dark Zero, Prince of Persia and Viva Pinata Party Animals, most selling for $5. Check out the full list of sale titles below, as provided by Major Nelson:

BioShock Infinite may not arrive until 2013, but the underwater world of Rapture is getting a re-release, at least in the UK, in the form of "BioShock Ultimate Rapture Edition." A British Board of Film Classification listing was spotted by Eurogamer (since pulled) that outs the bundle, which apparently includes both BioShock 1 and 2, as well as "all its DLC add-ons."
Publisher 2K Games hasn't confirmed the repackaging or given any official details on it, so it's unclear if the bundle will head Stateside or stay in the UK. As BioShock 2launched with a "Rapture Edition" that was specific to the UK, it stands to reason that this is the UK-specific bundle.
Update: 2K Games reps tell Joystiq, "We have nothing to announce at this time." So, like, soon then, right?

June 17th, 2012, 16:19 Posted By: wraggster

A lengthy business document purportedly sourced back to Microsoft showed up on Scribd yesterday. In it, alleged details about an "Xbox 720." For starters, the 56-page document claims the next-generation Xbox will launch in 2013 for $299, alongside the "Kinect V2." The doc also claims it'll come packed with Blu-ray functionality and be able to play game that are "4x - 6x" better looking than Xbox 360. If only it could promise the game themselves would be 4x - 6x better!
Beyond the stuff you'd expect, the document also claims Microsoft has Augmented Reality glasses in the works named "Fortaleza" (presumably built at Brazil-based Innovation Center Fortaleza) – the document says we won't see through MS' AR until some time in 2014, post-console launch. Additionally, it claims the "Xbox 720" will have some form of "always on" functionality, as well as the ability to run apps at the same time (read: multitasking).
Now before you go getting all excited, you should probably know that this document surfaced in some form back in early May on Nukezilla. Moreover, even if it's totally legit, the document itself appears to be rather old – dating back to August 2010 at least. That said, some of the info detailed in the document has since been announced by Microsoft (most notably Smart Glass). We've seen some pretty thorough fakes in our time, but this would be the most thorough if it were.
We've reached out to Microsoft for comment, but, well, you know.
Update: The document was removed from Scribd due to copyright infringement, at the request of a law firm named Covington and Burling. The firm worked with Microsoft as recently as this past April, when it advised Microsoft in its patent settlement case with Facebook. Microsoft still hasn't responded to request for comment.

June 17th, 2012, 16:17 Posted By: wraggster

Details continue to spew forth from the supposed leaked 52-page "Xbox 720" presentation that came to light a few hours ago. Buried deep within the bowels of the slideshow's fifth seventh slide, an examination of the next Xbox's potential competition potentially reveals some interesting tidbits about Microsoft's thinking back in 2010 (the slideshow dates back to August 2010).
Most notably, the document not only lists OnLive's MicroConsole as competition (along with the AppleTV and GoogleTV platforms, among others), but it also notes OnLive itself as a "potential acquisition target" – which makes sense considering frequent mentions of cloud gaming in the rest of the document.
The presentation also makes several assumptions about the Wii U (dubbed "Wii2" in the piece, showing its age) and Sony's eventual next console, specifically claiming that the Wii U will cost around $249, and that the "PS4" will be some kind of GoogleTV device, on top of being a Sony console.

Microsoft has applied to patent a free-space gesture controller for a MIDI interface that could see you kicking out jams on invisible instruments. Using a Kinect-style depth camera, individual movements would be mapped to notes and played out by the games console observing the action. The company actually teased a similar function in its Kinect Effect advert, where it showed cellists, violinists and pianists all miming in front of the sensor, although we doubt the technology is at a sufficiently capable stage just yet. If granted, it means we could see plenty of intentional arm-waving in future music games, or an even more outrageous stage show from the world's most beloved Gallic synth maven.

June 16th, 2012, 23:49 Posted By: wraggster
Phil Harrison, new corporate vice-president of Microsoft's IEB division, admits he was "surprised" by the levels of violence in games at this year's E3.
E3 2012 was Harrison's first visit to the conference in three years, and "the first E3 I can ever remember where I haven't been doing something public like standing on a stage introducing something new or presenting something. So I think I'm able to look at it through quite a relaxed and potentially dispassionate view."
That meant that he, like many of us, was struck by the level of violence on show. Between the Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft shows there were claret-filled demos of Tomb Raider, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Medal Of Honor: Warfighter, Far Cry 3 and, most memorably, The Last Of Us (pictured), when the audience cheered loudly at either a shotgun blast to the face or the flung brick that preceded it.
"I was surprised, I must admit, at some of the games," Harrison said. "I think it's an inevitable progression of visual reality and visceral immersion that games can get quite ultra-realistic.
"Thankfully, everybody adheres to a very good ratings system, and makes sure that consumers are well-informed before they buy their games. I think it's more coincidental than anything - I don't think it's a strategy that everybody has adopted simultaneously. So long as it's part of a balanced portfolio, it's okay."
For Harrison, violence wasn't the central theme of 2012. Instead, he saw the first evidence of an industry in transition; not simply one gearing up for new hardware, but one adjusting to a rapidly changing market.
"It's the seventh year of the Xbox 360 cycle," he said. "You've got some games which I think are showing developers really understand what it means to make great-looking games on the platform, and you've got a series of signs that the connected world is really starting to make sense in developers' heads.
"It's not just games; it's games, plus connected experiences, plus social plus new business models, and that, I think, is really evident in E3, probably for the first time. Maybe it was a bit last year, but I wasn't here, so I can't really comment."

Update: The document in question has since been removed from its original source at the request of Covington & Burling, a law firm that advises Microsoft. No word on if it was removed for being a forgery or not, so we've inquired with the firm as to why.
Microsoft responded to IGN stating "We do not comment on rumors or speculation."
Original Story: An unconfirmed document allegedly leaking out of Microsoft reveals the company's five-year plan, price, and features for the Xbox 720. The 56 page documentlooks at the possibilities for Xbox 360 in 2011 leading up to the launch of the next generation in 2013, which includes a new Kinect sensor at launch in a $299 bundle. Notable changes include a blu-ray disc drive, as well as a focus on and tablet integration. IGN is already confident that the next-generation will begin in 2013, and the plan for tablets to talk to consoles recently rang true.

Fez programmer Renaud Bedard has provided an update on the patch meant to handle some "nasty" bugs in the XBLA puzzle platformer. Turns out the patch was submitted on May 17, entered certification on May 21 and failed four days later due to two critical issues.
Bedard was finally able to reproduce one of the issues on June 8 and the patch is back at Microsoft for certification. He estimates it'll take another two weeks for the update to hit – you know, unless there's another hiccup. He notes on thePolytron blog, "Many apologies for the delays. It was a tricky one."
Fez has sold over 100,000 copies since its April launch. You can watch Polytron's labor on digital celluloid in Indie Game: The Movie, available now oniTunes, Steam.

We can't begin to imagine what serving in the armed forces is like, but we couldn't guess it would net vets some sweet gaming perks. A new EA initiative called Project Honor aims to honor fallen vets and their families by basically putting a bunch of licensed stuff into Medal of Honor: Warfighter, and by selling exclusive Medal of Honor-branded items. Proceeds from these specific items will go to "the Navy SEAL Foundation, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation and other charities."
In addition to selling special goods, EA will also issue a special "military edition" of Medal of Honor: Warfighter, exclusive to active, reserve and veteran US military. This "military edition" will be sold exclusively through GovX, Inc., and will include special in-game unlocks exclusive to this special edition. You canpre-order it right now ahead of Warfighter's October 23 launch date.

Microsoft is taking a page out of Apple’s book and producing ultra-ambiguous invitations for the unveiling of a major new product.

The invitation reads “This will be a major Microsoft announcement – you will not want to miss it.” But just what exactly is it?
Windows Phone 8 Apollo?
Via Nokia Innovation
Windows Phone 8 Apollo rumors and news has been reaching a fever pitch lately, culminating in several alleged leaked screenshots on NokiaInnovation.com.
While the images could easily be faked, if legit, they show the new Windows Phone OS has Skype integration, a new camera user interface, and a data usage pane.
We fully expected to hear new details on Windows Phone 8 sooner rather than later, so the timing seems to line up – especially if certain developers already have their hands on the phones.
Of course, it’s unlikely any significant gaming related news would be announced little more than a week after E3.
Mashable has hypothesized a Microsoft-brand television. Color us incredulous on the TV front, though there is a sort of urgency in the invite that leads us to believe big things could be afoot.

One other solid guess is a full showcase of Windows RT tablets, which have have had very little showing up until now.

June 15th, 2012, 00:06 Posted By: wraggster
The vast German consumer and trade video game show Gamescom has not been shaken by Microsoft's decision to miss the 2012 event.
In a statement issued to MCV, organiser Koelnmesse says the event is still 'on track, demonstrating stability and growth despite the difficult market situation'.
Instead, the organisers say an increasingly diverse set of exhibitors, with less of the 'traditional' games industry on hand, is down to "a transitional year" in the industry.
Microsoft earlier today confirmed it would not be exhibiting at Gamescom, which is put together in association with German trade body BIU. Fellow BIU members Sega, THQ and Nintendo have also opted out of the show this year, but Microsoft is also missing Tokyo Game Show 2012.
But any cancellations from bigger companies have been offset by new attendance promised from 60 new exhibitors.
And that includes the backing of Samsung, which will exhibit at Gamescom this year. Samsung, in case you need reminding, is the biggest electronics manufacturer in the world.
Koelnmesse's statement said: "The games industry is evidently in a transitional year prior to the forthcoming next generation of consoles. Several companies have therefore opted to implement individual marketing measures this year. This is compounded by the publication of revenue figure of other companies as well as other firms with new products that are only scheduled to come into the shops after the 2012 Christmas trade.
"This correspondingly affects the participation in the trade show of individual companies in Cologne as well as in other places where games shows are held, such as Los Angeles or Tokyo."
Gamescom's organisers have, since the show's inception, strived to make its offering - which includes a business lounge for the trade and hugely popular halls for consumers - varied and representative of the total games market. That means PC and console games, online games and browser games, plus new spaces for social and mobile gaming added this year.
"This is having a favourable effect on the event," says Koelnmesse, and it has stats to prove it:
- The number of exhibitors so far is up 20 per cent year on year.
- 370 companies from more than 30 nations have confirmed their participation.
- There are 13 country-specific shared stands – including Hungary and Austria for the first time this year.
- The event floor space is up 15 per cent to 140,000 square metres
Gamescom has a dedicated press event on June 28th that will be livestreamed online, and which the organisers say will name even more new exhibitors.
And anyway, Koelnmesse added: "Even if Microsoft does not have a stand of its own this year, the gaming community can nevertheless look forward to Xbox 360 games and games developed by countless Microsoft partners at Gamescom."
Gamescom takes place from August 15th to 19th. The first day is for trade visitors and the show is open to consumers from August 16th.

Computing giant joins Sega and Nintendo in missing this year's event
Microsoft is to skip Gamescom this year and focus on smaller, more localised shows, it has announced.
It said however that whilst it would not be attending to show off its first-party titles, selected Xbox 360 games would still be presented at the event.
“In the lead up to the launch of Halo 4, Gears of War: Judgement, Forza Horizon, Fable: The Journey and Dance Central 3, among other titles and entertainment experiences, Xbox is focusing on smaller, more-localised experiences for customers, partners, retailers and press around the world.
"As a result, Xbox will not be exhibiting directly at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany in August this year. Selected Xbox titles will still be showcased by our publishing partners at the event, and we wish the BIU well for the show.”
The news also follows Nintendo and Sega’s decisions to skip Europe’s biggest consumer games event.

Computing giant to focus on smaller, more localised events
Microsoft has confirmed it won't be attending the Tokyo Game Show.
It follows news that the platform holder won't be attending Gamescom and will instead focus on smaller, localised events.
At TGS last year, Microsoft revealed Grasshopper Manufacture's Diabolical Pitch. In 2010, the firm announced a string of Japanese-developed Kinect titles, including Project Draco, Rise of Nightmares and Haunt.
