Now that these three multiplayer map walkthroughs of Max Payne 3's Local Justice DLC pack are online, you can't afford not to study them. What if you show up guns blazing in the pool of the Imperial Palace, only to find your opponents have strategically placed themselves on the balconies, where they know they'll have a clear shot to your skull? In this case, you have to assume everyone will study these maps, lest you be the only one who doesn't.
Rockstar has laid out The Imperial Palace, 55th Battalion HQ and Departure Lounge, all three from the Max Payne 3 campaign and optimized for multiplayer battles. Take a gander at the maps below or on the Rockstarnewswire. Local Justice is set to drop July 3 for PS3 and Xbox 360, and July 17 for PC.

Microsoft doesn't appear to be too concerned by Sony's big acquisition today
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]www.microsoft.com
Sony made a huge splash in the games business today, picking up cloud gaming firm Gaikai for a cool $380 million. Rival Microsoft isn't sitting idly by, however. When GamesIndustry International asked for reaction to the Sony news, a spokesperson noted that the cloud will continue to be hugely important for Microsoft.
"The cloud has been a key component of our strategy and a big area of investment with Xbox for many years. Through Xbox LIVE we're serving up gaming and entertainment in the cloud to more than 40 million people," a spokesperson remarked.
"We're committed to delivering extraordinary entertainment experiences across devices in a uniquely connected way through Xbox, Windows Phone, Windows 8 and other popular devices, and we're looking forward to continuing to innovate in this space in the future."
There's been a lot of speculation that Microsoft could buy OnLive, but others think that Microsoft will simply continue to invest and improve its own technology. Cloud gaming is certainly rising in importance, and Microsoft isn't about to let Sony gain the upper hand. We'll keep you posted on any new developments.

Microsoft intentionally let the Kinect controller take a backseat at E3.
With its strategy this year being about core games, entertainment services and SmartGlass, the format holder seemed happy to only demo Kinect voice functions in new blockbusters.
And that was the point, Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer told MCV, because the firm wants voice to be a persistent part of games.
“That was conscious,” he said of E3’s showings for voice controls in FIFA and Splinter Cell.
“Early on with Kinect we obviously wanted to challenge ourselves and say ‘what would it mean to make a Kinect-only experience?’ We achieved that with some franchises that have hit scale and are selling millions of units.
“Now what you see is Kinect just shows up. It’s going to become a part of everything we do. It’s not that every game we do won’t have a controller but simple things, like in Splinter Cell distracting characters with your voice, is just a better way to do it, it’s more immersive.
“They’ve found the sweet spot, where we ask players to do what they would naturally do and the game responds, as opposed to you having to learn the controls. Voice has to be a persistent part forever more.”
But don’t think the firm is turning its back on camera-controller experiences.
“Wreckateer wouldn’t be as fun with a controller. It’s just fun if you stand up and do that with gestures. Those experiences are very compelling and social.”

What is it about shooting expensive cyborgs in the snow that is so gosh-darn appealing? We have fond memories of performing murders in Sidewinder and Snowbound, and now Halo 4 continues the snowy tradition with Longbow.
Longbow is a map located in the northern polar region of the planet Concord, specifically designed to showcase one of Halo 4's new game modes – but 343 isn't talking specifics yet. "Each side is a very similar plan and path, but distinct enough to get a peripheral sense of being in a distinct 'zone' in the map," the blog post on Halo Waypoint explains. Longbow supports both traditional on-foot combat modes and more grand vehicle-based skirmishes.
If you want to check out Longbow before anyone else, Microsoft will be showcasing it during the Rooster Teeth Expo in Austin, Texas on July 7 and 8, where the public will be able to get their first glimpse at War Games, the competitive multiplayer side of Halo 4.

Cold Stream, the massive, much-anticipated and acceptably murderous DLC pack for Left 4 Dead 2, is set to launch on PC, Mac and Xbox 360 on July 24. Cold Stream includes a fan-made campaign, and ports of Left 4 Dead's Death Toll, Dead Air, Blood Harvest and Crash Course levels.
Cold Stream first entered beta in March 2011 and is still open for PC and Mac on Steam, making this launch more of an official, polishing update for those platforms. Valve initially said Cold Stream would launch "some time after Portal 2," and really, it's not as if they were wrong about that one. Clever, Valve.Clever.

Want to know something amazing? The Xbox 360 has been around nearly twice as long as the original Xbox, and we've yet to hear a hint from Microsoft about its next console. Instead, the hardware manufacturer is happy to keep moving along for another year with Halo 4, Gears of War: Judgment, and even more Kinect games, secure in the knowledge that the Xbox 360 is among the company's most successful products.
To be sure, Microsoft is in a much better place now than seven years ago. After four years of running an unprofitable second to Sony, Microsoft was more than ready to move on from what the company had openly described as a test bed. In fact, Microsoft was so desperate to get its console to market that the company was willing to ignore technical problems that would go on to cost them more than a billion dollars. And much as that hurt, Microsoft (if not its customers) would probably still say that the headstart was worth it.

Xbox Music is coming to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, that much we know. We also know that theZune brand is dead. But whether the new service will be a simple rebadge or an entirely new beast remains a mystery. Bloomberg has it on good authority, however, that that Xbox Music will more than just a new face. Microsoft is allegedly combining all the most successful elements of its competitors -- streaming, online storage, and offline syncing -- into a product that will put iTunes, Spotify and Google Play squarely in its crosshairs. The company is allegedly in talks with the record labels to secure the necessary rights for a monthly subscription service and a market for purchasing tracks. It will also take a page from Google Music and allow customers to upload their own collections. If Microsoft can pull off a such a comprehensive service others in the field better watch out -- few companies have the reach or budget of Redmond.

Things were looking grim for gaming in April, when the International Trade Commission decided that the Xbox 360 violated Motorola patents and the console's US future was in doubt. The agency hasn't necessarily reversed its decision, but it just gave Microsoft a significant (and possibly permanent) reprieve. The Commission has remanded Motorola's case back to the Administrative Law Judge that gave the initial ruling, which very nearly restarts the clock: a new ruling won't come for months, and the usual review process guarantees even more of a delay even if the decision once more works in Motorola's favor. Patent suit watcher Florian Mueller is now confident that the Xbox 360 won't face any real risk of a ban in 2012, at a minimum. If the new decision doesn't clear Microsoft outright, it still pushes any ruling past a Microsoft lawsuit's trial in mid-November, when Motorola might be blocked from attempting any ban using its standards-based patents. We've rarely seen a majority or total reversal of this kind of ITC patent dispute before it reaches the appeals stage, but there's a distinct chance of that flip happening here -- especially as the ITC is using Apple's successful dismissal of an S3 Graphics victory as the judge's new template.

Only two weeks in, EA's premium FPS service has almost reached a million users
EA's Battlefield Premium service for Battlefield 3 has enlisted more than 800,000 users since its launch two weeks ago. The service offers discounts and early access on the game's expansions, including the recently-released Close Quarters. EA Games Label executive vice president Patrick Soderlund told USA Today that the initial response to the service has pleased the publisher.
"We are very pleased with the performance so far. We're actually only two weeks into it, so it's a little early to tell how this is going to pay off," said Soderlund. "It certainly it looks very promising right now."
Soderlund also expects EA to launch more original properties down the line, as it did with Dead Space and Mirror's Edge for this console generation.

Gears of war Judgment 'will not include Kinect support'
The potential of Microsoft’s motion sensing peripheral Kinect has yet to be fully realised, says Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski.
Speaking to GamesTM, the Gears of War creator said that whilst he was a fan of the device, he was curious how core games would work on it.
He added that only a few features from Epic’s recently cancelled Kinect-based Gears of War: Exile title had made it into the upcoming prequel, and that Judgment would not feature Kinect support.
“There are not a lot of things that wound up in there,” said Bleszinski.
“There’s one thing actually that you just reminded me of though, is that we are not supporting Kinect in Gears Judgment. I like Kinect, I’ve been a fan of it, but I don’t think it has been fully realised as far as the potential of the device.

Gears of War: Judgment won't support Kinect, says Bleszinski
Epic and People Can Fly has made it clear that the novelty of the Kinect has not swayed them to include support for the device in their latest project, Gears of War: Judgment. The decision seems to stem from earlier discussion on the now cancelled Exile project, a game that was meant to fully utilize the Kinect for a Gears of War title.
"There are not a lot of things that wound up in there. There's one thing actually that you just reminded me of though, is that we are not supporting Kinect in Gears Judgment," said Epic designer Cliff Bleszinski when prompted about Gears of War: Exile. "I like Kinect, I've been a fan of it, but I don't think it has been fully realized as far as the potential of the device. Dance Central 3 looks great and all, but I'm curious how the 'core' games will work out."
The new Gears title, set in the leading moments up to 'Emergence Day,' will tell the tale of several characters from the original trilogy. The cancelled Exile game has not had any details released as to what it was or what it was attempting to do with Kinect, but the project seems to have left a bad taste in Epic's mouth over the Kinect for development purposes.

Sleeping Dogs, the upcoming Hong Kong-based gritty action title from Square Enix received a Z rating from the Japanese rating organization CERO (the equivalent of an AO rating from the ESRB). As a result, the game will be modified for Japanese audiences, particularly to penalize players for attacking civilians, according to CVG.
Additionally, a sex scene in the game will be softened, and the game won't include a character that signals the start of a street race. Z-rated games in Japan are not displayed on store shelves, so buyers will have to ask for the game by name at retail store counters (much like the Xbox 360 version of No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise). The practice of adapting a game for Japanese audiences isn't uncommon, as THQ's Homefront shipped without Kim Jong-ilimages in 2011.
Sleeping Dogs received a Mature rating from the ESRB, and is set to launch on August 14 in North America.

[Thice] discovered a vulnerability in encrypted portable storage a few years ago. He’s just pointing about the exploit now. He mentions that he notified manufacturers long ago and we’d guess the wait to publish is to give them a chance to patch the exploit.
He calls it the Plug-Over Attack and for those who were involved with original Xbox hacking, this technique will sound very familiar. The Xbox used hard drive keys to lock the device when not in use. When you booted up the console it checked the hardware signature to make sure it was talking to the right motherboard. But if you booted up the device, then swapped the IDE cable over to a computer without cutting the power you could access the drive without having the password.
This attack is pretty much the same thing. Plug in a drive, unlock it on the victim system the normal way, then replug into the attacking system. In the image above you can see that a USB hub will work for this, but you can also use a hacked USB cable that patches a second jack into the power rail. For some reason the encryption system isn’t able to lock itself when the USB enumerates on the new system, only when power is cycled. Some of them have a timer which watches for drive idle but that still doesn’t protect from this exploit.

Eidos life president Ian Livingstone says the upcoming reboot ofTomb Raider still features a strong, capable heroine and believes reaction to the game's controversial trailer have been blown out of proportion.
Livingstone describes an E3 PR disaster, when executive producer Ron Rosenberg said players would want to “protect Lara”, as a “live interview that went slightly wrong. Quotes were misinterpreted and blown out of proportion,” Livingstone adds.
“There was a momentary threat to Lara which she overcame in two seconds. The reaction has been quite extreme.”
It was never the intention to imply sexual threat to Lara, Livingstone said - and he doesn't see much place for such themes in games in general.
“I think about my responsibility as a developer – films can deal with these themes, but it’s different in games when the user controls the action," he said. “We should be celebrating what’s great about the game.”Livingstone, a keynote speaker at the GameHorizonconference in Newcastle, was keen to celebrate the storied heritage of the Tomb Raider series as he addressed delegates.
He highlighted Lara’s late '90s domination of pop culture through myriad past and present tie-ins, including Larazade – a limited edition Lucozade drink – and some obscure French adverts made to promote SEAT cars.
Overall, this type of brand exposure helped make a total of $1.5bn - not a bad return from a series whose heroine was first perceived as a male Indiana Jones clone.
Establishing IP, Livingstone said, has many uses: by linking Lara with Pepsi, the game’s publisher can bring in more revenue. “Owning a licence is like leasing a gold mine," he said. "Own the gold mine and you can profit from it forever.” He urged developers to create their own IP whenever they have the opportunity.
Despite his love of new IP, Livingstone argues that Lara is ripe for a return 16 years after her debut. “There should always be new icons,” he said. “No-one would advocate binning Lara Croft, just as they wouldn’t want to bin James Bond. She has a huge fan following.
“She has had her ups and downs – The Angel of Darkness was not a great game, though it was aptly named. The fanbase will forgive you if they still love the character.”
For Livingstone, the key to a series’ longevity is to ensure successive iterations always go one better than the ones that came before. And he’s confident that, when Lara's next outing is released next February, the fuss over Rosenberg's interview comments will be swiftly forgotten: “I guarantee fans will be delighted with the newTomb Raider.”
