Update: Multiplayer maps Boardwalk, Gulch and Parish now available to download, according to CVG readers and Activision, although some users are still reporting getting XBL Marketplace error messages.
The final round of Modern Warfare 3 DLC for Call of Duty Elite subscribers on Xbox 360 has been released, but Xbox Live users are facing difficulties downloading it.
According to the online service's status page, "users will have issues accessing new MW3 content."We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue," Microsoft added. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience."
Call of Duty's UK community manager also said on Twitter: "Things have been done a little differently for our ELITE drop in this instance. No idea on the length of the delay though."
CoD multiplayer fans who have been underwhelmed by MW3's Face Off and Spec Ops DLC should be looking forward to the final Elite offering, which consists of three new online maps:Gulch, Boardwalk and Parish.
They're scheduled to be made available to non-Elite subscribers on Xbox 360 tomorrow, September 6 as part of Content Collection 4, which also features Offshore and Decommission, maps Elite users received access to in July.

We first saw Guardians of Middle-earth in action back at E3 this year, and it was quite impressive even then. Monolith has taken the PC-centric gameplay of the emerging MOBA (or DotA, or LoL, or even action RTS, whatever you like to call it) genre, and translated it over to a console and a controller. But since that first play at E3, I've gotten a few more chances to play the game at Comic-Con and PAX. GOME (acronyms!) is more than just a console clone of the popularLeague of Legends and the upcoming Dota 2.
Monolith has iterated on this complex strategy/action genre in a few different ways. Here's a list of five different things, whether you're a level 30 summoner or a Venomancer newbie, that you'll find new and interesting about Guardians of Middle-earth when it arrives for consoles later this year.

September 5th, 2012, 23:29 Posted By: wraggster
It was very, very nearly revealed at E3 back in June, but talk of a longer than expected wait for Xbox 720 is bubbling up once again.
"We have heard no word yet from Microsoft or Sony about their plans to launch new consoles,” Michael Pachter said in his regular Wedbush Morgan investor note.
“Both manufacturers are widely expected to launch consoles by year-end 2013, although we believe that Microsoft could delay a new console launch until spring of 2014 in order to accommodate what is certain to be overwhelming demand among hardcore gamers."
It’s a staggering development in the already lackadaisical road to market for the next-generation of console hardware, although one that does concur with recent statements from GameStop CEO Paul Raines.
“We have not been expecting two more consoles in 2013,” he insisted. “We're expecting Wii U this holiday, another one next year, and another one in '14. These rumours change every week, but we're hearing more about next year.”
While possible, it’s hard to believe that Microsoft would be prepared to delay the launch of its Xbox 720 successor even further than it already has.
At the turn of the year Microsoft was planning to reveal the Xbox 720 at E3. In fact, in the weeks running up to E3 Microsoft was pitching a very high profile brief to journalists that involved an unusual level of detail and attention involving pre-announcement meeting with regional management, pointing towards something very big at the LA expo.
Which, as we know, didn’t happen. At what stage Microsoft decided to reign in its next-gen reveal we do not know. But what was shown was weak to say the least, and leaves Xbox 360 in an uncertain position this Q4.
What’s more clear is Sony’s roadmap. It too planned a PS4 E3 reveal but gladly held back when it became apparent Microsoft was pulling the plug.
Sony is nowhere near as far down the development road as Microsoft with its machine, as was evidenced byits excellent E3 showing. But at the same time it will not allow Microsoft’s new machine to enjoy the same sort of head start in the next generation as it did in the current.
This sentiment may have been downplayed in more recent times by Sony execs but I assure you – that’s the bottom line at the top of the SCE hierarchy.
Furthermore, delaying the new consoles further is beginning to make less and less sense. The traditional console market is dying on its feet. There’s a strong line-up of releases on the way over the next six months, but the market is still odds-on to suffer yet another year-on-year dip.
The games market is more diverse than ever, and an increasing number of even traditional gamers are turning to emerging models such as smartphones and PC/online free-to-play. It’s becoming increasingly hard to convince consumers that £50 for a console game represents good value.
Don’t forget the publishers, either. Some studios are now openly announcing next-gen titles while others are doing so in a more subversive fashion.
And publishers can insists that games such as Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes aren’t next-gen until they’re blue in the face. I’m not buying it. Any developer worth its salt in this day and age is now working with a fully scalable game engine. If the next-gen holds off, they’ll release on PS3 and Xbox 360. If not, they flick and switch and their titles will gratefully utilise that extra power.
Everyone is ready to go. We just need Microsoft and Sony to sound the claxon.
And all hope is certainly not lost. EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau predicted recently that both Xbox 720 and PS4 would hit in the next 12 months and claimed last month that he has seen both machines.
What’s remarkable about this transition is the staggering role reversal we’re seeing. Traditionally, platform holders have been keen push through new hardware (which more often than not equates to a nice sales boost) while publishers have resisted, hesitant at the idea of rebuilding (and, more often than not, upsizing) their ecosystems to accommodate new development requirements.
This time it’s the publishers, tired of staring at their dwindling returns, who are desperate for an injection of new life. So why are the platform holders so reluctant?
Well, Microsoft is still enjoying very strong sales of its Xbox 360 hardware in the US. It takes a leap of faith to turn your back on that. But chiefly it remains to be seen how easy it will be to convince them to fork out £250-£350 on a new console, too.
All in the industry are very aware that we may have already seen the last great console generation. Is it any surprise that they’re holding on to what they’ve got for as long as they can?

A couple of serious sales are doing the rounds on Xbox Live Marketplace this week.
First up, the Back to School sale sees a good number of games go half-off, including Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, Bloodforge, both episodes of Sonic 4, and Joe Danger. The pick of the bunch, however, is definitely Double Fine'sStacking. The doll-piling puzzler drops from its original price of 1200 MSP to just 300.
As if that wasn't enough to keep kids (and adults) from their homework, the Xbox Deal of the Week sees the prices of six more games cut by 50%. That sextet features Alan Wake's American Nightmare, Limbo, and Digital Reality's time-bending shoot-em-up, Sine Mora. According to Major Nelson, the following week will see PopCap's collection of casuals getting a similar treatment.

Multiplayer game director talks adding story to AC's multiplayer
[h=3]Ubisoft Annecy[/h]
When multiplayer was added to Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, some were surprised to find the mode well-done and fitting with the series. Multiplayer for the upcoming Assassin's Creed III is being done by Ubisoft Annecy, who is crafting its own lore for the mode. Ubisoft Annecy game director Damien Kieken told Xbox World magazine (via CVG) how the series' primary antagonist, the Templar-backed Abstergo Corporation, fits in with multiplayer.
"The multiplayer is so big today that it's already a game on its own. We've been given the right to develop the Abstergo storyline since the beginning, which is a big responsibility," said Kieken.
The Abstergo Corporation has created Abstergo Entertainment, allowing the world to experience what was previously kept to Desmond and other subjects. This media outlet is set as the backdrop for the game's multiplayer and allows for a persistent persona.
"Abstergo Entertainment will give you insights on the company's future initiatives by granting you access to files and information on products that will soon hit the market," said Keiken. "As you progress in the game and level up your character, you access these files and videos. Every month you'll have new challenges to unlock new content that will continue the storyline throughout the year."
Assassin's Creed III and its revamped multiplayer mode are scheduled for an Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 release on October 30, 2012 in North America and October 31, 2012 in Europe.

Pachter puts Microsoft's next console in spring of 2014
[h=3]GameStop[/h]gamestop.com
Microsoft and Sony are expected to debut their new consoles late next year, but Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter places the next Xbox all the way back in spring of 2014.
"We have heard no word yet from Microsoft or Sony about their plans to launch new consoles, but both manufacturers are widely expected to launch consoles by year-end 2013, although we believe that Microsoft could delay a new console launch until spring of 2014 in order to accommodate what is certain to be overwhelming demand among hardcore gamers," Pachter said in a research note obtained by CVG.
This speculation dovetails with the thoughts of GameStop CEO Paul Raines. He toldPolygon that he expects one console in 2013 and another in 2014.
"This week, I'm getting a lot of rumors that are very interesting about 2013. We have not been expecting two more consoles in 2013. We're expecting Wii U this holiday, another one next year, and another one in '14. These rumors change every week, but we're hearing more about next year," he said.
With both statements taken together, that would put the next PlayStation in 2013 and the next Xbox in 2014. Can Microsoft afford to wait a year?

Halo 4's ending may have been revealed, according to reports.
Segments of what could be a legitimate Halo 4 script originating from a new video documentary have been published online. As pointed out by OXM, which spotted the original report on NeoGAF, the excerpts aren't confirmed, aren't necessarily the finished article, and may even be a red herring on 343's part.
But that shouldn't stop you averting your eyes now if you want to avoid potential spoilers:
"In that case, you won't mind..." Cortana appears behind the Didact.
at all of the Cortanas emerging from the Bridge
"Compassion for mankind is misplaced." - Didact
"I'm not doing this for mankind." Chief then charges the Didact.
rushes towards Didact and jumps all over him (legs, arms, chest, back)
Several takes of "Cortana" tackling and climbing on random objects at full speed.
Didact is attacked by Cortana. He attempts to swat at Cortana as a means of self defence.
Didact unclenches his fist and drops Chief.
Cortana begins restraining Didact by constraining his limbs to the Bridge.
-Several takes of "Cortana" climbing on "Didact" actor and then...
a specific body part (head, back, waist, knees, ebows, shoulders)
-Didact struggle idle.
Chief is released
-Chief immobilised pose
-Chief falls, lands on edge
-Chief hanging idle

Brothers In Arms Furious 4, the fourplayer co-op Gearbox shooter announced at E3 in 2011, has "evolved" into an all-new IP.
The news was revealed at PAX over the weekend by Gearbox president Randy Pitchford. Speaking to Kotaku, he hinted that the new game would, like Gearbox's shooter-RPG hybrid Borderlands, fuse two established genres in a new way, but refused to elaborate.
"Our Pokémon has evolved," he said. "It has different powers."
No further details were revealed, though Pitchford said new Brothers In Arms details would be revealed at Gearbox's upcoming community day on September 15. Perhaps we'll see the fruits of Furious 4's evolution at the event as well.

We knew that Gearbox's next Brothers in Arms title Furious 4 had "evolved," but it wasn't until today at the Inside Gearbox panel at PAX Prime that the Dallas-based studio confirmed that it's being turned into a brand new IP.Gearbox co-founder and CEO Randy Pitchford said "they [Gearbox] kind of started to go in a place that started to get a little way from what the core of what the Brothers in Arms brand is all about... it needed to be unshackled."Sadly, no details were released about what this new title will entail, but Pitchford said that the game would be "re-announced" at the upcoming Gearbox Community day on 15th September in Dallas, Texas. We expect to hear more details then.

Square Enix has announced a third title in the Final Fantasy XIII continuum.
FF XIII: Lightening Returns is due out in 2013 on Xbox 360 and PS3 and acts as a standalone title rather than a sequel to FF XIII sequel FF XIII-2. It will also be the closing chapter in character Lightening’s journey.
As is often the way nowadays, the game promises some sort of extended social network integration – a feature the studio describes a “world-driven”.
It also takes a different design approach, with players travelling between four islands via monorail. The world has a day/night cycle and the emphasis has been placed on exploration.
Lightening, too, will depart from the series’ staple design. She will be highly customisable, sport transformable weapons and be far more mobile in battle. She will also traverse environments in what sounds like a manner akin to Lara Croft or Nathan Drake.
Good ol’ static turn based RPG this is not.

After the leaked -and confirmed to be real- POC video showing back-ups running on the 1175 drive.
Team-Matrix has decided to make it 'official' and released a new video showing the upcoming 'Freedom'.
Just a couple of days have passed since a POC video showing the Liteon 1175 X360 drive playing backups was leaked into the web, and now Team-Matrix has decided to make it official.
That's right, the team has announced the upcoming 'Freedom' 1175 Board Replacement.
[QUOTE]
Before we begin, some notes regarding the 16D5S drives and why we made the choices that we made :
First of all, the SPI eeprom is locked just like in the old drives and the WP pad is connected to GND, thus making it impossible to erase/rewrite.
Why the old Geremia/kamikaze style method is not feasible in the 16D5S drives :
The area were the WP wire can be cut is less than 1mm in length and the WP bonding wire runs parallel to the DO bonding wire with around 0.1mm of separation between them.
Cutting the WP wire without damaging the DO wire is doable when the chip is decapped and under a good microscope but we can't see any way where someone can do this without some serious lab instruments.
For this reasons we have developed a replacement PCB, similar to our previous Freedom replacement PCB but with some additional hardware needed to cope with the enhanced crypto requirements in the 16D5S firmware.
This PCB will replace the original drive PCB and work on any unmodded Xbox360 (including the 4GB V2 coronas and those with dashboard 15572+ ).
The firmware is finished and stable and has all the features you would expect :
stealth, XGD3, all titles work (basically everything iXtreme 3.0 has) plus some additional features that we are testing and considering for inclusion in the final release.

via http://gligli360.blogspot.fr/2012/08/still-alive.html
Hey, as you might have noticed, I resumed my work on nulldc-360 and libxenon not long ago.
I'm currently working on 3 things: compatibility/sound/speed.
6 months ago I was badly stuck on 2 bugs, one texture endianess problem, and one random crash/infinite loop in the dynarec.
First thing I did was to look at that texture bug, in a few days I found the exact case where it happened and fixed it for good.
Then I fixed the dynarec one, it was quite an awful one: I forgot to save/restore the SH4 condition flag on dreamcast interruptions, so it was randomly corrupted as the emulated console handled its IRQs!
I fixed a few more bugs until it was clear I needed proper sound emulation for more games to boot.
Adding sound was relatively straightforward, of course there were the usual endianess related bugs, but I guess I'm getting used to it ^^
The Dreamcast sound chip (AICA) is a complex design, it has an ARM processor core, a 64 channel sound generator, and a DSP.
I don't emulate the DSP for now, many games don't really need it.
Main problem with sound is the induced emulator slowness, though thanks to the 360 multicore cpu, I was able to make it almost free.
Updating peripherals in the dynarec works that way: each code block knows how many SH4 cpu cycles it emulates, and each time a fixed number of cycles (448) is reached, it calls a procedure that updates those peripherals.
To multithread sound, and by the way, other peripherals, I run parts of that update on a separate core.
It runs concurently with the dynarec, and, basically, every 448 SH4 cycles both get sychronized. so as long as peripherals emulation takes less time than SH4 emulation, the dynarec doesn't have to wait for them!
So that makes them almost free to emulate, almost because they still stress the 360 L2 cache and memory controller a little.
Anyway, compatibility seems pretty good now, sound works, speed is more or less the same it was before sound emulation, a proper binary release *might* not be that far

It's PAX once again, so it's time for more news on Battleblock Theater, the Behemoth game that, for the time being, only exists at the expo. The latest on the party combat game is the level editor, which allows users to design, upload, and download new levels using the same "super easy" tools The Behemoth uses to make the story and arena levels.
Battleblock is on display at the show, so we look forward to hearing about the one guy who holds up the line to finish his intricate dungeon design.

You may think, after watching the initial trailer, that Twisted Pixel pulledLocoCycle (in which you control a renegade robotic motorcycle that shoots and karate-chops its way across the country) out of some loony creative cauldron of its own making. But that's not quite true, says studio director Michael Wilford, showing the game for the first time at PAX Prime 2012. There is a very clear inspiration, he says, and it's Ice Cube's 2004 motorcycle racing movie, Torque.
"It's a really shitty movie," Wilford tells us. "It tries to be Fast and the Furious on motorcycles." Twisted Pixel's art director gave a copy of Torque to the company's chief creative officer, Josh Bear, one day as a joke, and Bear was directly influenced by a viewing, especially a scene where two women . "Josh had a nightmare that night," says Wilford with complete sincerity, "and woke up the next day and said, 'We have to make a game about a fighting motorcycle.'"
