"In an editorial at Penny Arcade, Ben Kuchera writes about how Microsoft's subscription-based Xbox Live platform has become an advertising cash cow — to the detriment of users who already pay for the service. Quoting: 'People who don't play video games would be forgiven if they turned on an Xbox 360 and didn't realize it was a device used to primarily play games. The first screen you see on the Xbox 360 Dashboard is often a mixture of ads for all sorts of goods and services, and many times games are in the minority of ad slots. The latest redesign increased the ad space that can be sold to advertisers, and that in turn increased this problem. Let's be clear, it is a problem. Game discovery is terrible in the current design of Xbox Live, and the usability of a system that used to be about games is suffering in order for Microsoft to make money on ads. Sadly, this issue isn't going away: Ad sales simply bring in too much money to ignore, and revenue is growing. ... I contacted Microsoft and asked how much advertising revenue impacted the profitability of the Xbox 360. "We don't share this information publicly but we can tell you that, since 2010, the advertising business has grown 142%," I was told.'"

The first Dance Central 2 DLC track for the month of July dropped yesterday: Selena Gomez & The Scene's "Round and Round." This upbeat number is available for download right now for 240 MS Points ($3) either through Dance Central 2's in-game store, or directly through Xbox Live Marketplace.
Dance Central 2 is getting a trio of new tracks this month. Next week on July 17, Demi Lovato's "La La Land" will be available for download for 240 MS Points. Patient beliebers will likely want to save up their pennies until July 24, when Justin Bieber is added to the catalog with his number, "Never Say Never."

Minecraft's Xbox 360 version continues to march forward, with the latest update (1.73) bringing "pistons and sticky pistons," "stackable fences," and a whole mess of other items, functions, and skins to your handcrafted block world. There are even 40 new character skins, some of which can be seen above. The update doesn't include NPCs, villages, or the much desired Adventure Mode, but 4J Studios promises those will come in time.
The patch, which corrects some errors too, goes live tomorrow at 2AM UTC. The full list of changes is right after the break.

A new fighting game based on popular TV show Spartacus is heading to consoles next year.
Ubisoft will publish Spartacus Legends for Xbox 360 and PS3 in early 2013. It is not yet clear whether this is a retail release or a download-only title like the publisher's Expendables 2 tie-in.
The title will throw players into a Roman arena and pit them against beefy gladiators, either in the blood-stained sandals of Spartacus, Crixus or their own creation.
Multiplayer modes will allow them to challenge friends, both on and offline, while leaderboards will list the world's Spartacus champions.
Liam McIntyre, who plays Spartacus in the TV show, will lend his voice and likeness to the game, and has even been on hand to provide feedback as Legends has been developed.
UPDATE: Ubisoft has confirmed to MCV that Spartacus Legends will be download-only, released on Xbox Live Arcade and Sony Entertainment Network.

Rockstar has once again muttered the ‘Bully’ word, assuring fans that its cult IP has not been forgotten.
And while Bully 2 has never been officially confirmed, we can at least be assured that the IP figures into Rockstar’s forward planning in some capacity.
“As we previously replied to similar questions about the future of other game franchises like Bully and LA Noire, we don’t always rush to make sequels but that does not mean that we won’t get to them eventually,” the developer said in the latest edition of Asked & Answered.
The last time the game was mentioned was back in November 2011 when Rockstar VP Dan Houser said the Bully franchise was one the studio “adored” and “might come back to”.
Aside from being a fantastic title, Bully is perhaps best known for the controversy it courted in 2008 when news of the release caused a media outcry and even saw the title banned by some retailers.
Rockstar subsequently opted to abandon the Bully name in the UK and released it under the title Canis Canem Edit.

Corona CPLD files and Xebuild 1.04 patch added. blaKCat has yet again updated AutoGG, this time adding support for the CPLD files and the xebuild 1.04 patch...
Just a few days after v0.6 -which added support for Corona- spanish developer BlaKCat has yet again released another update of AutoGG.
AutoGG is an AiO app that allows you to do the RGH/JTAG hacks on your XBOX 360.

XBOX360 Games Easy Updater (XGEU) by Red Squirrel is a nice Windows/Linux app in which you can search for and download updates for your XBOX 360 games directly from your PC, so you don't need XBOX Live.
Well, a new version has been released for both Windows and Linux. Here's the changelog for each one:
If you have problems running it make sure your have installed the required Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile for the Windows version.

A port of Final Burn Alpha 2.99.07 for the original XBOX. Here's an update to NES 6502's Final Burn Legends. Supports over 2700 games and the emu includes parts of FBA-XXX Pro 1.29.
Final Burn Legends is a port of Final Burn Alpha 2.99.07 to the Xbox. Originally ported by 'NEs 6502', this one is now updated by 'destronger' and '+T+'.
This emu includes parts of FBA-XXX Pro 1.29. That's why it has support for over 2700 games, and some of them aren't playable anywhere else on the Xbox.
A new version has been released. Here's the full changelog for v1.11:

The first wave of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier DLC, the "Arctic Strike" Map Pack, will put the freeze on Xboxen and PS3s come July 17. For your hard-earned 800 MS Points (or $9.99, respectively), your futuristic soldiering experience will be augmented by three new multiplayer maps, a new multiplayer mode called "Stockade," a new guerilla co-op map, six new weapons and an increased level cap.
Arctic Strike was meant to launch 14 days sooner on July 3, but was delayed due to polish concerns -- not to be confused with pole-ish concerns, which anyone travelling to the arctic circle would undoubtedly have.

Forza Horizon hooks up early adopters with a code for a free whip, instantly available in Forza Motorsport 4: the 2012 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392. If you pre-order Forza Horizon at a participating US retailer and don't own Forza Motorsport 4, you can also select from one of four exclusive cars to download and use in Forza Horizon on launch day, October 23: a 2012 Aston Martin Virage, 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, 2010 Ferrari 458 Italia, or a 2010 Nissan 350Z.
Should you decide to pre-order, you'll have the option of Forza Horizon's standard package (stick shift, cloth seats, AM/FM radio) or you can opt into the more limited edition package. The developers behind Tekken X Street Fighter have said the game is still coming to current generation consoles.
The Namco and Capcom collaboration was first announced in 2010, but there has been no word on when it will be released.
However, this silence doesn't mean it has been pushed back to become a Xbox 720 or PS4 title, according to Eurogamer.
"There's still a large number of players out there with a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 who are looking forward to the game," said Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada.
"So we feel it's probably more relevant to get the title out to them on the current hardware.
"We're not completely sure, but that's the direction at this moment."
Tekken X Street Fighter puts characters from both franchises in Tekken-style 3D arenas. Its 2D counterpart Street Fighter X Tekken was released earlier this year.
