The second game to see new Avatar tie-in content from the "Avatar FameStar" program is NinjaBee's A World of Keflings, which was just updated to support FameStar today. The new update adds more than just Avatar bonuses for in-game accomplishments, including what NinjaBee calls "a full year's-worth of free weekly quests, a new kingdom to build in and more."
The new kingdom is a "sandbox" environment in which players can build whatever they want – including ships to sail and explore the waterways. Also present in this new kingdom is the "Rockstar Kefling" who dispenses each week's new quest.
In other weird, time-delayed updates, today's Keflings additions include a patch to unlock a "unique Twisted Pixel emote" for players who have earned a specific achievement in Comic Jumper. What a strangely busy week for XBLA games from 2010.

If your copy of Silent Hill HD Collection for the Xbox 360 is having issues and you're still holding onto the receipt, Konami is ready to make a trade.
On the official Silent Hill Facebook page, Konami asked affected users to contact its customer service for purchase "verification and further details on how to exchange your product." The initial posting does not say what Konami is offering in the exchange; however, in response to the question on Facebook, the proprietor of the Silent Hill page added: "The exchange is for other Konami titles or versions of titles."
The offer is only valid for Xbox 360 versions of the Silent Hill HD Collectionpurchased "on or before" August 8, 2012, with requests for an exchange required to be submitted by October 7.
After the Silent Hill HD Collection launched earlier this year, some users complained of technical issues. Though Konami released a patch to correct problems in the PlayStation 3 version, the publisher announced it was unable to patch the Xbox 360 version due to "technical issues and resources." Despite the flaw, Konami told Joystiq it will continue to sell the HD Collection for Xbox 360.
Joystiq has contacted Konami to find out what options users are being given in the exchange and will update this post when more information becomes available.

Just in case you've been waiting to see what Mad Catz's grab-bag titled Damage Inc. Pacific Squadron WWII (which used to be the much more feasible War Wings) is like, you're in luck. The game now has a playable demo, available on Xbox Live. The demo is exclusive to Gold members, rings in at just about 770 mb, and can be grabbed for free.
Unfortunately, the demo doesn't come with a free Pacific AV8R flightstick, which Mad Catz will be including with the Collector's Edition of the game, and presumably will be the best way to experience flying around in the Pacific Theater. As Mad Catz says in the press release, this game is part of its goal of "pursuing targeted software opportunities that pose manageable downside risk by complementing our hardware initiatives." Which is corporate talk for: They're making the game to sell the stick.
But if you have another Mad Catz flight stick, it should work, or just a standard controller will probably do what you need as well. If the demo spins your propeller, the game will be out on August 28.

The console has outsold the competition in the US for 19 months in a row now
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
Microsoft just sent word that it's Xbox 360 console sold through 203,000 units for the month of July, which marks 19 months as the top-selling current-generation console in the US. It also was the 17th consecutive month that Xbox 360 held more than a 40 percent share of current-generation console sales.
Microsoft noted that total retail spend on the Xbox 360 platform in July (hardware, software and accessories) reached $218 million; consumers once again spent more on Xbox 360 products in July than they spent on the other two current-generation consoles combined, according to NPD data.
Microsoft remains optimistic about the upcoming holiday season, pointing to triple-A launches like Halo 4, Forza Horizon, Dance Central 3 and Fable: The Journey.

Source behind the recent Durango dev kit leak publishes image showing improved Kinect technology
The source of the recent Xbox Durango dev kit leak has released another image illustrating the refined Kinect technology's capabilities.
The anonymous source, known as "DaE", published the image on Twitter. It shows the Kinect detecting the outline of two users' clothing to a relatively high degree of detail, and is tracking one users' hand and fingers even as it passes in front of his body.
DaE leaked images of the Xbox Durango dev kit in July, when he attempted to sell it on a developer forum in what he later claimed was a joke.
Initially, it was thought to be a hoax, but Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter located DaE and subsequently confirmed that the images were, "the real deal."

Basically, no more waggle...

Good news, everyone! The exceedingly laggy network play pervasive in the Xbox 360 version of Persona 4 Arena has been corrected in record time. The corrective patch is currently live and players will be prompted to update the game as soon as they load P4A up on a Live-enabled Xbox.
Joystiq's preliminary testing indicates that the issue has indeed been solved, as all matches played synchronized quickly and were virtually indistinguishable from the game's offline framerate and performance. Unfortunately, this also means that we can no longer blame our devastating losses on performance issues.

Microsoft confirms that it's sticking with Microsoft Points, and working on the glitch
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
Microsoft has told GamesIndustry International that the recent appearance of real money items on the Xbox Live store was in fact a glitch, rather than a move away from points.
"Yesterday, a few avatar items appeared with an option to purchase with local currency, instead of Microsoft Points," it said in an official statement.
"This display error doesn't signal a change in payment options, but rather an error in how the offers were configured in our services which resulted in an inconsistent experience. It is in the process of being resolved."
Screenshots snapped by Save And Quit showed avatar items for the game Hybrid priced at $1.99 and $2.99, rather than in Microsoft points.

The thing is, it’s not really Microsoft’s fault. It’s ours.
Earlier this week MCV lamented Microsoft’s compulsion to lie to us all about an admission from its general manager Brian hall that the New Xbox is a ‘thing’.
We lamented the necessity of lies in corporate culture. We lamented being treated like idiots. But then we had a think about and realised that perhaps Microsoft isn’t to blame at all.
Perhaps it’s all our fault.
By our we mean the media of course. Well, and Apple. Because Apple has proved how to make a successful business out of keeping people guessing.
Here’s a(nother) thing: do a quick Google News search for “iPhone 5 rumours”.
In the past 24 hours alone stories have been published about the pixel count and size of the still unofficial device’s screen, the shape of its home button, how many units some analyst thinks the still unconfirmed device might sell whenever it might be released, the number of rows of apps the home screen will display, the width of the unit, the possible inclusion of a magnet on its dock connector and even, shock of shocks, how many pins will be included in its dock socket.
Hell, there are websites out there that exist purely to publish unsubstantiated rumours about all things Apple.
There’s a whole industry of free marketing out there that Apple pays absolutely nothing for. Which is maybe why it can afford all those flash, minimalist, piano-backed TV ads.
And Microsoft knows that as long as it keeps shtum about the New Xbox it will receive the same treatment. As long as we’re kept guessing, we’ll keep guessing. Publicly.
So when someone discovers a small Microsoft job ad that seems to suggest that the New Xbox will be out within 18 months – something the whole industry is absolutely 100 per cent certain of regardless – it will still get coverage.
Why on earth would Microsoft want to kill that particular golden marketing goose? Heck, a little bit of corporate bullshit is a small price to pay, right?
The long and short of it is that we’re going to (at least try to) stop reporting on every New Xbox scheduling rumour from now on. Not that it’ll make even the remotest of difference, of course.
But at least we’ll have a platform from which we can step onto our high horse.

For those of you who can't count on a friend to tell you that a little more air should come between you and your Calvins, a Bloomingdales store in Palo Alto has just the solution: An Xbox Kinect-based body scanner that will help you find your best fit. While body measuring systems aren't new, using the Xbox Kinect is a much more affordable solution. Which means that soon we'll all have the opportunity for a computer to tell us that we should 'avoid wearing low to mid rise jeans.

A job vacancy for a senior role at Microsoft's entertainment division has suggested that the next generation Xbox will be released before 2014.The advert, seeking a Central Marketing Group director, claims that "over the next eighteen months Microsoft will release new versions of all of our most significant products including Windows (Client, Server, Phone and Azure), Office and Xbox, along with completely new offerings like Microsoft Surface".
The statement suggests that Microsoft will launch the next Xbox before 2014. CVG sources have previously suggested the system's release date will likely fall in the latter half of 2013. Development kits were issued to several third party studios in the UK at the start of 2012, the sources have said.
Microsoft does not comment on speculation regarding the so-called Xbox 720.
However, on Tuesday the software giant broke protocol to insist that comments recently made by an executive at the company - who had briefly mentioned the "new Xbox" - were allegedly "not understood in their intended context".
Brian Hall, general manager of Windows Live, told journalists last week: "We've operated Hotmail for about 16 years, we obviously have Exchange and Outlook that people use at work, and we just decided it was time to do something new and bring the best from each of those and put them together and release it right in time for the new wave of products that we have coming out with Windows 8, with the new version of Office, with the New Windows Phone and the new Xbox."
Microsoft retorted: "When Brian mentioned a 'new wave of products,' he was referring to the full line-up of products coming later this year from Microsoft, including Windows 8, Office, Windows Phone and of course our fall Xbox update which will bring a host of new consumer experiences like Xbox Music, Videos, Games on Windows 8 and Xbox SmartGlass."
At the centre of the debate is a semantics issue: whether the so-called 'new Xbox' was in reference to new Xbox 360 services or a new system altogether.
The latest Microsoft job advertisement does not mention Xbox Live, its operating system or any related online services, just simply that "over the next eighteen months Microsoft will release new versions of all of our most significant products including Windows, Office and Xbox".
The vacancy also suggests that these new devices will launch within the next eighteen months. Microsoft's clarification on Brian Hall's comments, meanwhile, were that he was referring to a line-up of products set for release within the next five months.
The two distinct timelines suggest that Hall and the job advertisement are referring to a separate line of products.
In June, a leaked 56-page document had detailed what appeared to be an early Xbox 720 release plan. One month later, images of what appears to be an Xbox 720 development kitsurfaced on the internet.

The latest title update for Skyrim, version 1.7, will be released tomorrow on Xbox 360 worldwide and on PS3 in America. At least, that's what Bethesda "expects." A European PS3 release will follow next week. The 1.7 patch implements a number of bug fixes, including "general memory and stability optimizations," and, for Xbox, fixes French, German, Italian, and Spanish dragon shouts.
There's no news yet on the PS3's Dawnguard DLC, which has been delayed until Bethesda can get it running at a satisfactory level.

Hybrid, 5th Cell's third-person shooter that's been suffering server issuesthroughout its launch day, has been pulled from the Xbox Marketplace.
"We'd like to confirm that we have identified a problem and are in the process of finding a solution," Microsoft wrote in a statement. "We will make the game available as soon as we can, and we apologize for the inconvenience! Thank you for your patience in the meantime."
5th Cell creative director Jeremiah Slaczka wrote on the game's forum: "We are working with Microsoft to fix these server issues. Many people from both 5TH Cell and MS are working together to sort the problem out. We are making progress, but it will take time unfortunately. Sorry for the inconvenience, however we don't foresee this problem to continue once it's fixed."
We've been in touch with Microsoft for an estimated time of a fix. We'll update as soon as we hear more.

Konami has detailed a slew of Metal Gear Solid digital releases heading to XBLA and PSN during the last couple weeks of August.
The first notable date is August 21st, when the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection arrives for Vita, PS3, and Xbox 360 in North America. (A Europe date is tabbed for February 2013 at the moment.)
Also on that day MGS2 and MGS3 will be available to purchase individually (as opposed to the bundle) via Games on Demand for Xbox 360 and PSN for PS3/Vita.
One week later on the 28th, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will make it onto the digital channels. A PS3-exclusive bundle containing Peace Walker, MGS2, and MGS3 will be made available the same day as well.

Windows GM referring to Autumn update for 360, claims Microsoft
Microsoft has played down claims made by its Windows GM that a new Xbox is underway by claiming the recent reveal was a misunderstanding.
Brian Hall recently referenced the long-rumoured Xbox 720 during an interview with the Verge, stating it would be coming as part of a new wave of products including Windows 8 and Windows Phone.
But a statement from Microsoft has now called the following reports a misunderstanding, and that Hall actually referred to the upcoming Xbox 360 update and a host of new features coming to the console, such as SmartGlass, Games on Windows 8 and Xbox Music.
"The comments to The Verge were not understood in their intended context," read the statement.
"When Brian mentioned a 'new wave of products,' he was referring to the full lineup of products coming later this year from Microsoft, including Windows 8, Office, Windows Phone and of course our fall Xbox update which will bring a host of new consumer experiences like Xbox Music, Videos, Games on Windows 8 and Xbox SmartGlass."

Mojang expecting to more than double profits from last year, says studio MD Carl Manneh
Mojang’s hugely popular world building title Minecraft is selling more than 17,000 copies a day on Xbox 360.
As reported by it24, Mojang MD Carl Manneh claimed that as a result of steady sales on all platforms, the studio is set to more than double its profits from last year.
In 2011 the developer reported profits of more than £5.6m, with revenues totalling £52m.
Markus Persson's own company Notch Development took £40m of last year's revenues, although it is expected Mojang will recieve a higher percentage this time around after the Minecraft creator stepped away from leading development on the indie hit.
“Since Mojang keeps more of the earnings from the new Minecraft versions, our turnover increases a lot this year,” said Manneh.
