Baird Research analyst Colin Sebastian has predicted that Xbox One will enjoy slightly higher launch window unit sales than its rival PS4.
Part of his reasoning is the fact that eBay listings for Xbox One are currently attracting mark-ups in the region of 60 per cent, while PS4 mark-ups are hitting around 50 per cent.
"While many forecasts still give an edge to Sony/PS4 in North America sales, we continue to expect similar or even slightly higher sales of Xbox One by the end of the launch window," he told investors, as reported by Games Industry.
He adds that between them the pair could shift up to 6m consoles this year, with each selling 1.5m-2m units in North America and 2.5,-3m units worldwide.
Sell-outs, he believes, are inevitable.
"Retailers in our checks indicate there is consumer demand well in excess of supply, as evidenced by fast sell-outs of incremental unit allotments, such as at GameStop," he added.
"Looking further ahead, we still believe a more accurate gauge of new cycle demand should be made after the initial sales window, dominated by core gamer fans."

With the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 launching next month, industry watchers are beginning to handicap the horse race. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian is the latest to weigh in, telling investors this morning that he expects total worldwide shipments of the two consoles to come in between 5 million and 6 million units this year.
He projected each console to ship 1.5 million to 2 million units in North America, and 2.5 million to 3 million worldwide. Despite the identical ranges, Sebastian suggested the Xbox One may outsell the PS4.
"While many forecasts still give an edge to Sony/PS4 in North America sales, we continue to expect similar or even slightly higher sales of Xbox One by the end of the launch window," Sebastian said.
Sebastian also noted that while both systems are currently listed on eBay at healthy mark-ups, Xbox One systems are averaging a 60 percent premium over the $500 retail price tag, while PS4s are fetching 50 percent mark-ups over that system's $400 asking price.
"Retailers in our checks indicate there is consumer demand well in excess of supply, as evidenced by fast sell-outs of incremental unit allotments, such as at GameStop," Sebastian said. "Looking further ahead, we still believe a more accurate gauge of new cycle demand should be made after the initial sales window, dominated by core gamer fans."

CD Projekt RED has announced that The Witcher series has sold six million copies since the launch of the first Witcher game on October 26, 2007. The company also released an infographic for the milestone, shown below.
"CD Projekt RED was built on the idea that giving gamers more is always worth it. Since the very beginning of our journey we have seen that the approach of inviting gamers into a dialogue with the developer is really important and can shake up the - sometimes self-destructive - business side of games. We hope you'll stay with us for the years to come and that we will continue to make these changes together," said studio head Adam Badowski.

Nowadays we take licensed music for granted, but it wasn’t always like this. Rockstar laid down the open-world template with Grand Theft Auto III, but it was actually GTA2’s London expansion that first featured a licensed soundtrack, courtesy of Trojan Records. The UK dub and reggae label’s work made for a powerful addition to the game’s sense of place, and Rockstar took it to its logical next level with GTAIII’s genre-spanning set of radio stations. Reggae returned with K-Jah; record labels were again enlisted, with UK jungle imprint Moving Shadow providing the sounds for MSX FM and New York label Game Recordings soundtracking the hip-hop station, Game Radio FM. Elsewhere were the now-standard classical, pop and ’80s stations – with the latter, Flashback 95.6, saying much about Rockstar’s influences: every track played was also featured in the film Scarface. It was a powerful mix that not only covered a broad spectrum of tastes, giving players a filmic soundtrack to accompany their rampages, but also let Rockstar further enrich its world with commercials and talk radio stations. Later the formula would be finessed with the addition of news reports based on the main story thread, and the genre mix expanded to include country and hard rock, but GTAIII laid the foundations, and its influence persists in open-world games to this day.The games that followed were set in specific time periods, and once again radio was key in reinforcing the player’s sense of not only being in a specific place, but also being there at a set moment in time. Vice City’s ’80s pop, hair metal and blue-eyed soul was followed by San Andreas’s alt-rock, Chicago house and G-funk-era hip-hop. Grand Theft Auto IV’s contemporary setting, however, gave Rockstar no such luxury, and instead of drawing on a rich lexicon of pop culture it passed the reins to real-world DJs and producers: Funkmaster Flex and DJ Premier spinning hip-hop, Francois K playing electro, Roy Ayers running the jazz station and Iggy Pop on Liberty Rock Radio. There were celebrities, too, with fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld hosting disco station K109 The Studio and actress Juliette Lewis doing likewise on Radio Broker.GTA IV enhanced Rockstar’s reputation for muso-friendly radio stations further.
Grand Theft Auto V sees Rockstar continue in that vein. Pam Grier hosts the soul station Lowdown FM; British model Cara Delevingne runs Non-Stop Pop. Big-name muso talent includes Gilles Peterson, Soulwax, Bootsy Collins and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry. As in Grand Theft Auto IV, it’s a fine cross-section of contemporary music, ticking all the genre boxes and enriching Los Santos’s already remarkable sense of place. But here, Rockstar does something different: where Scarface influenced its early licensing experiment, here the biggest inspirations come from the studio’s own games.Given the setting, San Andreas is an obvious influence even before you reach for the radio dial, but when you first get into a car as Franklin and tune the radio to West Coast Classics, it’s impossible not to marvel at how far we’ve come from the early moments as CJ cruising San Andreas’s low-poly city streets. Bombing down a rural highway in Trevor’s pick-up truck listening to Waylon Jennings’ Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way instantly recalls a nighttime San Andreas police chase soundtracked by Whitey Shafer’s All My Exes Live In Texas. And just as you start to think you’re in early-’90s Los Santos, a smartphone ad or a news item on fracking yanks you back into the present.Vice City’s there, too, most of it coming from Kenny Loggins’ self-deprecating turn hosting Los Santos Rock Radio. It’s a misleading name, its soundtrack drawing not on contemporary heavy guitar music but 20 years of classic rock that could, maybe should, have featured in Rockstar’s snarky love letter to ’80s pop culture – REO Speedwagon, Phil Collins, Queen and The Doobie Brothers, as well as Loggins’ own glistening yacht rock.

Angry Birds: Star Wars is X-winging its way onto PS4 and Xbox One, at least according to multiple ratings. North American ratings board ESRB listed it for the next-gen systems this week, while in Brazil the game was classified for both systems back in July. To add further evidence, in August retailer GameFly listed the next-gen versions too. When approached on the ratings, an Activision rep told Joystiq the company wasn't able to comment.
What we do know is Rovio's fusion of force and feathers is coming to Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, and PC, and you can peck it up for those systems on October 29. Meanwhile, Angry Birds Star Wars 2 is available on PC as of today, if you'd prefer to play it on a computer far, far away from your mobiles.

The reworked HD version of Vita release Assassin's Creed Liberation is set for a January launch on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
The Playstation US Blog confirmed the title would arrive for PlayStation 3 on January 14th, while a Steam pre-order page lists the PC version at $19.99 and pins a January 15threlease date on it.
As for the Xbox 360 version, Ubisoft told Shacknews that the release window is simply “January 2014” for now.
Assassin's Creed Liberation initally launched as a PS Vita exclusive. The HD version has received a bit of a reworking from the original title, and boasts 15 new missions for protagonist Aveline and her distinct "personas" to take on.

The creator of the Resident Evil series has downplayed the PS4’s supposed power advantage over Xbox One.
TheSixthAxis reports that Shinji Mikami told Edge that “there’s no real difference between them”, adding:
“We only need one console. Why do I have to make two versions of a game? And when Xbox One was first announced it had lower specs than PS4, but now they’re almost identical. So either will do.”
The comments are all the more notable considering rumours currently doing the rounds that one very high-profile upcoming multiplatform next-gen launch title will run in 1080p on PS4 but only at 720p on Xbox One.
While there appears to be gathering momentum behind the whispers, for the time being they remain just that – whispers. Should anything more substantial on the matter emerge MCV will bring you all the details.

The UK’s best-selling video game magazine will be relaunched in time for the arrival of Xbox One.
Xbox 360: The Official Xbox Magazine is being renamed Xbox: The Official Magazine and will receive its first redesign since 2005. It has a new logo and new features, while the magazine (which arrives today) features a free 20-page Xbox One launch guide.
The website OXM.co.uk will also be refreshed ahead of Microsoft’s new console.
“The games industry has changed radically since OXM launched, with the rise of both mega-franchises like Call of Duty and Assassin’s Creed and indie hits like Minecraft and Spelunky,” said OXM editor Jon Hicks.
“The new-look OXM is designed to let our award-winning writing team cover both, from exclusive reveals of the next big thing to the events and communities players have built around games.”
Head of games Lee Nutter added: “It is vitally important that we are geared up to cater for users of both the next-generation and current console, and this redesign, coupled with the exciting work we are doing with the site and video content, will enable us to reach more Xbox fans than ever before.”

The multiplayer component of Konami’s PES 2014 on Xbox 360 has at last been fixed.
An update is now available and ready to download, and should do so manually the next time the game is loaded up.
However, 11v11 online multiplayer is not yet available and will be introduced “in the coming weeks”. A further data pack next month will introduce 800 player face updates, updates squad rosters and other general gameplay improvements.
“Konami is extremely grateful for the patience and understanding shown by PES 2014 users affected by the issues,” a statement said. “Further DLC updates created to bolster the performance of the acclaimed football title will also be announced shortly.”
Many Xbox 360 owners have been unable to take the game online since its release way back on September 20th – a terrible blow for a game that not only relies so heavily on online multiplayer but also faces such high-profile opposition.

PlayStation 4 and Xbox go head-to-head in the latest issue of Edge magazine, which is available now in print, on iPad, Android and Zinio. You can take a look at the latest subscriber offers here, which are discounted for a limited time.Because the battle between these two boxes won’t be won on silicon alone, our new issue’s cover feature sets them against each other across multiple categories, from input methods to indie support. While we've been aware that the Xbox One's achievement system will havesome fluidity to it since the system was revealed in May, it turns out that it has color-coding options as well. As Xbox Corporate VP Marc Whitten explained viaTwitter, the system's achievements are in a player's "chosen color," which is more evident in a recent Microsoft Studios livestream on Twitch of Powerstar Golf.
At the 11:15 mark in the video, a blue achievement pops up indicating which of the two players earned the "Valuable Commodity" award. When players earned achievements during multiplayer sessions on Xbox 360 games, the color was always grey, while the circular controller indicator showed who earned it. Now we wonder just how fancy our achievements can look on Xbox One; perhaps Microsoft has included gold trim options or patterns such as a gorgeous, chatoyant finish?

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate HD, the console remake of MercurySteam's 3DS adventure from earlier this year, is now slated for an XBLA release on 25th October, one week ahead of its initially announced Halloween release.
According to Xbox Live director of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, it will cost $14.99 (about £10).Series producer Dave Cox took to Twitter to confirm that the PSN release date is still set for next Wednesday. "It comes later on PSN - 30th," he tweeted. "And yes if you purchase MOF HD you get an exclusive CVLOS2 demo," he clarified.Fans of physical media can wait an additional week past that and get Mirror of Fate HD, the demo for Lords of Shadow 2, and the first Lords of Shadow game bundled together in the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Collection, which is due on 8th November for £30.When asked on Twitter if the Mirror of Fate HD port edition would be coming to PC this week, Cox replied, "No. We are looking into bringing the game to PC at some point though." This corroborates his cryptic tweet earlier this month showing the game running on a laptop with a cheeky "no comment " message beside it.Our Chris Donlan found Mirror of Fate something of a delectable snack upon its March release, even if it wasn't wholly nourishing. "This 3DS outing can't match the smart assurance of the first Lords of Shadow, then, but it remains a decent action game with some lovely art to keep it chugging along," he wrote in his Castlevania: Mirror of Fate review.

A leaked Brazilian Xbox One manual suggests that the next version of Kinect won't require users to stand as far away from the sensor as they did with the previous model.
According to the document (via NeoGAF), players should stand at least 1.4 meters (about 4.6 feet) away from the sensor. Conversely, the original Kinect suggested solo players stand back at least six feet (about 1.8 meters) and two players should stand closer to eight feet (2.4 meters) away.Height-wise the new Kinect sounds about the same as the old one, with the suggested resting place between 0.6 meters (about two feet) and 1.8 meters (about six feet).Still, being able to stand about a quarter closer to the sensor could be a big win for people with small living quarters (like yours truly). We've reached out to Microsoft to see if it can confirm that this manual is on the level, but Microsoft is refusing to comment on the issue.

If you aren't watching anything from PBS, you're missing out and now you have one less reason to ignore America's Public Broadcasting Service. Starting today, both local and national PBS programming is coming to the Xbox 360 -- if you have an active subscription to Xbox Live Gold. This includes both new and archive, full-episodes of shows like Frontline, Nova, American Experience and of course Downton Abbey -- the classic Triumph of the Nerds, isn't available, however. In addition to the full-length episodes, there are also clips from popular shows and web-original video from PBS Digital Studios. So if you missed League of Denial: The NFL's Concussion Crisis onFrontline a few weeks back, quit playing Madden 25 for a bit and learn why playing Xbox is safer than playing football.

The many gamers buying an Xbox One for Titanfall (or don't mind the Xbox 360 and PC versions) can now mark a date on their calendars: EA says that the shooter will reach North America on March 11th, 2014. While that's more than four months away, the company is offering a Collector's Edition that just might encourage a few pre-orders among well-off players. If you can spend $250 -- yes, that's half as much as an Xbox One -- you'll get an 18-inch, LED-lit Atlas Titan figurine that's likely to be the centerpiece of your gaming den. You'll also receive an art book and a large schematic poster. You'll want to act quickly if you like the idea of a miniature (albeit stationary) robot, though. EA says that the Collector's Edition is available in "extremely limited" numbers, which suggests that supply will run out by launch day.

Dell's claims of unified environment refuted by Microsoft
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
Microsoft has refuted the claims made by PC manufacturer Dell that all Windows 8 apps will be compatible with Xbox One.
In the Xbox One listing on Dell's website, Microsoft's console is described as unifying the disparate worlds of mobile, PC and TV. "Consider the game officially changed," the promotional text reads, claiming that, "all your favourite Windows 8 apps [will be] able to run on and [can be] synced to your Xbox One."
The unification of a variety of devices into a single environment has been one of Microsoft's stated goals for some time, but this is the first mention of that degree of compatibility for Xbox One. The only prior hint in that direction was given byMicrosoft evangelist Steve Guggenheimer in July.
"Xbox One has two engines, it's got a gaming engine and it essentially has a Windows 8 engine," he said. "Nothing to announce today, but when I talk about that common core you're seeing that common core in action, being able to target other devices over time that run the Windows 8 engine.
"If you want to know about how to get a head start about thinking about developing for Xbox One, the logical thing to do is go build Windows 8 applications."
Microsoft has attempted to clarify the situation with a prepared statement, sourced by AllThingsD: "The suggestion that all Windows 8 apps run on Xbox One is not accurate."

GTA Online players will receive the first of two 'stimulus package' deposits of in-game cash this week, Rockstar has said.
Rockstar previously announced plans to provide every GTA Online player with in-game cash as compensation for the issues that have plagued the online game since its launch on October 1.
Each GTA 5 owner who plays the game within the month of October will be gifted half a million GTA$ in two deposits. That's equivalent to a real world offering of £6.75, the price users can opt to pay to purchase a Bull Shark cash card worth 500,000 GTA$.
The first $250,000 deposit will turn up in players' in-game bank accounts "this week", Rockstar has confirmed.
The second deposit is planned to happen "by the end of the month".Check here for more information on how it will all work.
We said in our GTA Online appraisal: "With Rockstar planning frequent DLC and updates, and user-created missions on the way, GTA Online could have a long shelf life. The only let-downs at the moment are the lack of co-op heist missions, a slightly bloated interface, and some strange design decisions like being unable to tag stolen high-end cars and make them your personal vehicle. Otherwise, this is a supremely fun online toy box with a remarkable amount of variety in its missions - if you can connect, that is."
