Microsoft has revealed a new piece of fitness software that will be free for Xbox Live Gold members.
Xbox Fitness is an Xbox One title that builds upon the many fitness games released for Kinect over the last few years. It features a number of names that will apparently be recognisable to people who are into such things including Shaun T, Jillian Michaels and Tracy Anderson.
Using Kinect 2.0 it will read your heart rate (without the need to strap any equipment to your skin) and monitor your movements, and then offer a personalised exercise program. Workouts range from ten minutes to one hour and those that prove popular among users will be offered up automatically in the menus.
There will also be social features that allow you to compete and compare with your friends’ efforts.
“What makes Xbox Fitness so innovative is the feedback it gives you,” Shaun T stated. “The Kinect sensor can evaluate your form, tell how high you’re jumping, how hard you’re punching and even read your heart rate. It’s that little missing piece of validation that hasn’t been possible for home fitness products before. Xbox Fitness completes the puzzle.”
It will be released ‘this holiday’ and will be free for Gold members through to December 2014.

The new Kinect for Xbox One can pick up two people speaking at once and discern what each one is saying. Kinect Sports Rivals studio Rare sounded off on the sensor's features via a new video, as shown by Microsoft Corporate VP Phil Harrison to the audience at the Eurogamer Expo in London today.
"It can not only hear two people speaking at once and understand two people speaking at once," said New Technology Lead Developer Nick Burton, "It can also see if their mouths are moving in a completely dark room. And that allows us to do crazy levels of detail."
Included with every Xbox One, this Kinect is certainly a significant upgrade from its predecessor. The new sensor can detect 25 various joints for 6 different people, recognize which player is using which controller, estimate players' heart rates, map faces to 1,400 points, and tell you if you're too fat. Wait, one of those is the Balance Board... we bet the new Kinect can do that too, but we probably shouldn't give it any more ideas.

Microsoft exec Phil Harrison has said that Xbox One will be "more than a ten-year journey" for the company when it launches in the UK this November.Harrison speaking at Eurogamer Expo
Speaking live at Eurogamer Expo 2013 this afternoon, Harrison added that - just like the Xbox 360 - the platform will be improved and updated over time, throughout the next decade.Of top importance to the platform's evolution during that time will be the cloud, Harrison said, and the expanded computing possibilities it will offer. This is limited at launch to things like Forza 5's Drivatar, but Harrison predicts will become a key component in AI and other processes.Speaking in an extended interview with Eurogamer this week, Harrison said that the evolution of digital game distribution was an "unstoppable force" for the industry, a sentiment he echoed during this morning's speech."We remain committed to a digital future," he explained, but adding that Microsoft was grateful for the feedback offered from fans since the console's initial unveiling.

Phil Harrison has said that a digital-only future for the games industry is an inevitability.
“The general trend of the world is to be more digital and less physical,” Microsoft’s EMEA corporate VP Phil Harrison toldEurogamer. “That is in our opinion an unstoppable force.
“Depending on where you live on the planet, that transition has already happened. Some parts of South East Asia, Korea for example, don't have a physical disc or media-based games industry anymore. It's all digital.”
Harrison also dropped the biggest hint yet about the possibility of Microsoft striking an interactive TV deal with Sky Sports and the Premier League that mirrors that it enjoys with the NFL in North America.
“The short answer is we have nothing to announce,” he answered when pressed specifically about the Premier League. “The long answer is, two floors below you is a large team of people who are working on some really interesting things.
Microsoft earlier this month confirmed that it is actively pursuing more interactive sports deals with various potential partners across the globe.

Xbox VP Phil Harrison has downplayed the potential rivalry between Xbox and Steam.
Last night the global PC download giant announced it will be entering the living room space with a number of machines that will use the new SteamOS software.
But Xbox has dismissed the potential new competitor, reiterating the advantages of Xbox.
"I don't think it's a threat," he told MCV at Eurogamer Expo.
"I have great admiration for Valve, I think they are a really innovative company. They have done some really smart things. The Steam platform for one. They're actually based close to our headquarters in Seatle. We have a pretty good relationship with them.
"We think that the Xbox One combination of business model, developer ecosystem and retail support, will make our platform very successful. It is unclear to me, until I see the product and understand all of their announcements, exactly what it means."

September 26th, 2013, 00:55 Posted By: wraggster
EA Sports has released a FIFA 14 title update to address a number of issues, while also confirming that it's investigating reports of the game freezing for some users.
In a post on the company's website, a community manager explained that the day one patch addresses "stability issues found in the closed beta and minor fixes to a couple game mode (Skill Games, Creation Centre) items".
Based on feedback gathered from the demo and early access period, EA also plans to tweak the effectiveness of headers from corner kicks and crosses, the effectiveness of finesse shots, and the accuracy of lofted through-balls.
"Finally," the community manager said, "we're aware that some users are experiencing freezes during the game. We continue to investigate these reports internally, and with our partners, and will update the community when we know more."
The game launched yesterday in the US ahead of the FIFA 14 release date of September 27 throughout Europe.
CVG said in its FIFA 14 review: "It's such a ludicrously comprehensive sports game, where any one mode could easily see you through to next season, that the small and clumsy steps it takes backwards courtesy of Precision Movement do little to spoil the party. Slightly slower and a little worn out in the legs, FIFA 14 is still king."

September 26th, 2013, 00:54 Posted By: wraggster
The first wave of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 games will be of significantly higher standard than is expected from launch titles, according to Ubisoft's executive director Alain Corre.
Speaking in an interview with CVG, Corre was asked if the trend of early titles failing to realise the potential of hardware was a concern when launching new properties such as Watch Dogs and The Crew.
"It does take time to master new technology," he replied, "but this time we've been able to partner with Sony on PS4 and Microsoft on Xbox One early. We've been able to understand the core architecture of the console and have aligned our production capacities and creativity on what we feel they can bring."
The Ubisoft exec went on to describe the Xbox One and PS4 launch games on offer as "second-to-none", noting that Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and Watch Dogs, both developed and published by Ubisoft, are already making good use of the new hardware's potential.
"What we see today is that, for the very first time, the first generation of games on [PS4 and Xbox One] will be miles, miles better than the first generation of games we used to have at the launch of previous consoles," he said.
"That's why there's an appetite for next-gen, it's been many years without a new console and also because the quality of the products proposed at launch are second-to-none. There are super good games that can give you hours of gameplay and take immersion to the next level, which is really a fantastic way of showing what the technology can do.
"Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs are exploiting a good amount of the capacity of the machines already. Of course, over the years it will improve and our engineers will find some tricks to better create in the future, but at launch there are very good games."
Ubisoft has confirmed a current-gen and Wii U Assassin's Creed 4 release date of October 29 in the US and November 1 in UK. PC, Xbox One and PS4 versions will be released later in November.
The corporation has also confirmed a Watch Dogs release date of November 19 in North America and November 22 in Europe for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC.
PS4 and Xbox One editions will be available at each console's launch.

Microsoft has confirmed Might & Magic Clash of Heroes as it next free 'Games with Gold' title.
Xbox Live Gold subscribers will be able to download the puzzle RPG free of charge between October 1 and October 15.
Released in April 2011 and usually priced at £9.99, the Xbox 360 version of the game has a Metascore of 84.
OXM, which awarded it a 9/10, said in its review: "If most puzzle games leave you feeling slightly jipped and a slave to chance, Clash of Heroes offers an absorbing, long campaign, and a good variety of online modes. Maybe now Might & Magic will get something like the modern audience it deserves."

Microsoft doesn't expect to see much of an indie game presence on Xbox One until sometime early next year.
Speaking with Games Industry, Microsoft corportate vice president Phil Harrison explained that – despite an “avalanche of interest” in the Independent Developers @ Xbox program – it's unlikely many of the indie games heading to the console will make it out by launch.
"I don't think it's realistic to see a developer get the program and build a game and get it into the market on November 22," Harrison said.
"It's reasonable to expect in early 2014 we'll start seeing the first games come through."
Harrison added that the company is "very happy" about the console's current launch line-up of Call of Duty: Ghosts, Dead Rising 3 and Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag – specifically referencing upcoming mecha FPS Titanfall.
"That lineup is very, very strong, and Titanfall is turning into the huge megahit that we expected it to be."
Xbox One launches November 22nd in US and Europe.

September 25th, 2013, 01:03 Posted By: wraggster
The physical market is not in decline, Xbox Live product manager Pav Bhardwaj has stated.
"I don't genuinely believe that there will be more digital and less physical product," Bhardwaj told OXM. "I actually think the entire market will grow.
“I think there's room for both – there's a certain type of customer who really wants a physical product, because who doesn't want those steelbook limited editions? I think everybody wants those. And there's a certain kind of customer who will also want the digital.
"So I think there's room for both, and it's our job to grow with the entire industry going forward, and offer people who want a certain product a certain way, that particular product in that way, and for people who want a physical product, to carry on buying that."
All three platform holders are significantly increasing the emphasis being placed on digital, with both Xbox One and PS4 to offer day one digital releases.
There has already been evidence of Nintendo choosing to compete on price with digital – whether Microsoft and Sony choose to do the same will likely play a large part in determining the speed of any possible transition.

Supermarket behemoth Tesco has detailed its promotional plans for the launch of FIFA 14.
The blockbuster football title launches on Friday, and the supermarket will be selling the game from midnight from 750 of its shops.
What's more, Tottenham Hotspur captain Michael Dawson will be visiting Tesco's Cheshunt store the day before (between 6pm and 8pm on Thursday) to help promote the game.
Retailers are already gearing up for its next major launch, barely a week after the arrival of Grand Theft Auto V.

The Xbox One will not allow users to share their gameplay recordings on YouTube until some time next year.
Microsoft’s Albert Penello confirmed the Destructoid that at launch these clips will only be shared on Xbox Live. Facebook functionality will also be offered some time in the New Year.
It has also been confirmed that Xbox One can run four apps simultaneously in the background, with users quickly able to swap between them at any time using wither the controller of Kinect.
Note that only one game can be run at any given time.
Up to six registered Xbox Live users can be signed in simultaneously, with Kinect automatically signing people in through facial and voice recognition.
Once a user’s ID is registered Xbox One will automatically begin syncing accessible content from the cloud – and this functionality carries over between regions no matter where you are in the world.
Using Kinect the console will also change the ‘lead’ user of the machine at any given time by seeing who is holding the controller. So, for instance, even if you are at a friend’s house, if you tell Kinect to load a game it will do so using your settings and save game info pulled from the cloud.

We outline how Microsoft made Xbox One a contender again after a disastrous E3 in the next issue of Edge magazine, on sale September 26 in print, on iPad, Android and Zinio.“I think when you create a vision of the future, you paint the vision of the future that you are most excited about,” Microsoft’s Phil Harrison tells us. “But we got clear feedback that some of the things we were proposing were perhaps a little too far into the future. So we changed. We took feedback from the community; we changed our plans. We think that’s a good thing.”Harrison, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of Microsoft’s interactive entertainment business, also dismisses the notion that the departure of Don Mattrick had an effect on the changes of policy, and remains confident that Xbox One’s software line-up is stronger than Sony’s PS4 slate. “We are winning the games message,” he tells us. “We had over 100 awards coming out of E3 for games on our platform. That is more than twice as many awards as any other platform. So the media recognised our games on Xbox One as being the best lineup – including Titanfall, which is the most awarded game in the history of E3, coming to Xbox One and to Xbox 360.”Harrison also apologises for Xbox One’s delayed launch in many territories, but insists that launching in far fewer countries than PS4 this Christmas won’t ultimately damage the console’s prospects. “We will make sure we work super hard to catch up as quickly as we can,” he adds. “In the long run, in the life of Xbox One, I don’t believe this will have any material impact.”

Zombies, zombies, everywhere – and not least in Dead Rising 3, the open-world slayathon heading to Xbox One at launch. At Tokyo Game Show on Friday I saw a private demo of the game, including co-op play and the new Super Combo system for building crazy weapons. And since this is Japan, I asked Capcom Vancouver producer Mike Jones about the early input of the Japanese team behind the original Dead Rising – including series creator Keiji Inafune.“From the early planning stages we did have a handful of core [Capcom Japan] creatives who were responsible for finding Blue Castle Games back before it became Capcom Vancouver, in the planning and prototype stages of this,” said Jones. “Those guys were involved in the planning stages, like the characters and the scenario. But unfortunately Inafune left in 2010 and he’s been doing his own thing.”Indeed, part of Inafune’s legacy at Capcom is his work to globalise the company’s development outlook. By partnering with Blue Castle for Dead Rising 2, he sent the series in a new direction, culminating in the slick and solid-looking Dead Rising 3 before us today.“[Inafune's team] sought out Blue Castle Games back in the day because they wanted [Blue Castle's] take on Dead Rising and to bring it to a larger Western audience, and they’ve now trusted Capcom Vancouver to be the owners of the Dead Rising franchise,” said Jones.

Grand Theft Auto V has shown itself to be potential GOTY material, and has even managed to break a sales recordalready. But aside from that, the game has also become one of the most adult-oriented games ever released, with torture, drug use and sex prevalent not long after beginning the game. You'd expect this gameplay to deter most parents from picking the game up for their young children — but not so. An anonymous editorial at Kotaku written by a video game store employee says that out of the ~1,000 copies sold in the first week, at least 10% of them went to parents accompanied by a child. Clearly, this could be interpreted as a problem. Techgage adds that this is one of the biggest problems facing gaming today. With one breath, many parents criticize video games for being so violent, and with the next, they're saying 'thanks' at the counter after picking up these very games for their kids. While ESRB ratings and other warnings about violent games for kids have good reason to exist, many parents still ignore them, aren't aware to them, or simply don't care about their warnings
