According to an email from Microsoft, the Zune Marketplace, precursor to Xbox Music, will no longer support rental, purchase or browsing of content "as early as" November 22, the same day as the Xbox One launch. Those looking to replace or transfer their content can look instead to Xbox Video, which allows for purchase or rental of content using local currency (as opposed to the recently retired Microsoft Points), or Xbox Music, which streams content. Both services will be available on the Xbox One.
If you were previously a Zune user and log into Xbox Music with your Microsoft account, the service will display your local library as a virtual collection. Any video content previously purchased from Zune will likewise transfer over to Xbox Video. If you have any remaining Microsoft Points, you can convert them to your local currency by purchasing content or redeeming a code for Microsoft Points.
Although the Zune Marketplace is on its way out, Zune hardware will remain usable. Microsoft PR confirmed to Joystiq that owners of Zune hardware will still be able to enjoy playback of previously-purchased content from their personal collection on their devices.

How do you close out a console generation? By reclaiming your crown. According to NPD's October figures, Microsoft is back on top: The Xbox 360 is once again the best-selling home console. It's hardly surprising -- Microsoft has dominated home console sales for years, losing out to the PlayStation 3 for the first time in ages just last month. It almost wouldn't be notable, save for the fact that this month's numbers are the last NPD figures before the industry moves on. The PlayStation 4launches at midnight tonight, and the Xbox One will be available in just a few days. You can almost see the anticipation in the numbers. Hardware sales totaled $171.7 million for the month, 8 percent less than the same period last year and over $10 million less than the previous month. Business as usual, really. Care to take stab at who will take the cake in generation eight's first NPD report? Let us know what you think in the comments.

"Sports will never be the same," according to this trailer, which showcases how to get started with ESPN's unique features on the Xbox One. The service will provide live programming via WatchESPN alongside clips and highlights from ESPN.com. If you have an ESPN.com account, you'll also be able to create custom channels based on your favorite leagues and teams.
So, yeah. Now you know how to sports when the Xbox One launches on November 22.

The DLC-bundled Ultra Edition of Microsoft's upcoming Killer Instinct reboot for the Xbox One will feature two versions of Rare's 1994 arcade Killer Instinct, Siliconera reports.
Producer Torin Retting revealed that Killer Instinct Classic will feature both the original arcade version (v1.4) and the upgraded ROM revision 1.5D, which fixes a number of glitches and infinite combos discovered after the game's initial release. The port will also feature CRT-emulating scanline options, a training mode, and sprite galleries.
Retting additionally notes that Killer Instinct Classic will only be included inKiller Instinct's Ultra Edition and boxed Pin Ultimate Edition, and will not be sold separately.

As of next week UK gamers will be able to get their hands on all three Batman games in a single SKU.
It’s called the Batman: Arkham Collection Edition and includes, as you would expect, 2009’s Arkham Asylum, 2011’s Arkham City and the recently released Arkham Origins.
It will be available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC and will be released next Friday in the UK (November 22nd). There’s no confirmation of anon-European release as of yet.
The press release suggests that Arkham Origins will be on the disc and both Asylum and City will come in the form of digital download codes.
It also states that “the PC versions of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City will be Game of the Year editions” and that the PS3 version of Origins “included the Knightfall DLC pack”.

Capcom has said Ultra Street Fighter IV will be released on consoles internationally 'soon after' the game's debut in Japanese arcades.
The publisher confirmed on Friday that the game will hit arcades in Japan in April 2014. Digital versions for consoles will go live in North America and Europe "soon after" that.
While holding off giving an exact release, the firm says the game will be out before 2014's Evo tournament, .
Capcom explained that the release is still months away due to the extensive changes it's making to SFIV.
"We've been working hard to ensure that this is indeed the most openly influenced version of SF yet," said the firm. "Just on Capcom-Unity alone there was well over 20,000 comments that we had to go through to make sure that the most beneficial changes made it in, while also pleasing the fans."
Capcom announced Ultra Street Fighter IV in July. The Xbox 360, PS3 and PC update will introduce five new characters, six fresh stages and new modes and features.
It will be released as both $14.99 DLC for existing Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition owners to download, and a $39.99 physical disc version with "all DLC costumes for all characters released until now" and "future content" to be confirmed.
Capcom recently released a new video highlighting the new mechanics being introduced in Ultra Street Fighter IV, including the Ultra Combo Double, Red Focus Attack and the removal of Unblockables.

November 16th, 2013, 00:22 Posted By: wraggster
Big console launches are exciting enough, but they're often short on surprises - after months of build-up, hype and planning, when whichever big black box you've opted for arrives in your living room on day one there's never that much room in the launch line-up for unknown quantities. All of which makes some of the less hyped games like Zoo Tycoon all the more pleasing, as I discovered last week - and Powerstar Golf's another little surprise awaiting people who pick up an Xbox One at launch. It's humbler than the likes of Dead Rising 3, Ryse or Forza Motorsport, but it occupies a different, more relaxed space. Having started off as an Xbox 360 downloadable game built around avatars, Microsoft liked what they saw enough to give Brighton-based developers Zoe Mode a boost up to its next-generation console, and to have Powerstar Golf prepared to be sitting on the Xbox One's download store on day one. What'll be waiting there for you is a take on the sport that's more Everybody's Golf than Tiger Woods - in fact, with its soft-edged caricatures and beaming colour palette, Powerstar owes an awful lot to Clap Hanz's long-running PlayStation series. Its debt goes beyond the aesthetic, and the clean and simple game of golf that Powerstar offers is backed up by a deep pool of systems. If anything, Powerstar Golf runs deeper than its PlayStation counterpart - and quite likely any other golf game out there. The RPG elements that are part and parcel of the majority of sports games aren't a casual overlay - they're as intricate and detailed as the loot and skills in the likes of Diablo.http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...ay-have-missed
At the base level you've got a slim selection of different golfers with different starting abilities - you can think of them as your classes. Building on top of that are booster packs that can augment a skill over the course of a round or hole, and equipment that can be bought in the shop or even collected as a set for an extra kick to your stats. It's all fuelled by the in-game economy and yes, you can give your income a little boost with a real cash microtransaction - but Zoe Mode insists that it's not at all necessary to pump in money to see success. The idea, instead, is to have a rich and deep progression system that makes you go back to holes and courses in order to improve your score, and hit the initially elusive three star ratings. Many of the skills and systems in place suggest that Powerstar Golf can have that pull: the loot's inspired in part by Borderland's vast arsenal, and the skills themselves range from a little extra power to more delightful tricks like improving your ability to skim the ball across lake surfaces. You can even loan out your caddie, a character that has their own attributes and progression system, to other players before getting them back, a neat lift of the pawn system in Capcom's Dragon's Dogma. There are some other neat ideas, too. Powerstar Golf doesn't have direct online multiplayer, but it does layer in competitive play in some more interesting ways. Pretty much everything you do within the game, be that sending a drive down the fairway, chipping on to the green or pushing a putt towards the hole, is measured against friends on leaderboards that are actively pulled into the game. Think of it like Forza's Rivals mode, or Need for Speed's Autolog, but just within the sedate world of golf. It's a philosophy that's also extended elsewhere - it's possible to download other players' efforts around a course and compete against them, a system that's effectively like downloading a ghost in a racing game. That's a lot of pretty smart ideas for a small game that, thus far, hasn't really garnered much attention before its release on Xbox One at the end of next week. It probably deserves a little bit more - and it definitely deserves consideration if you're picking up an Xbox One at launch.

November 16th, 2013, 00:07 Posted By: wraggster
Popular open-world zombie game State of Decay is soon for an expansion, not that anyone will notice with all this next-generation hoo-ha going on.Breakdown, as it's called, arrives 29th November on both Steam and Xbox Live Arcade, priced $6.99."Basically," Undead Labs' Sanya Weathers told me, "we built the expansion according to player requests. People wanted less story, more survival (and long-term at that) and increased difficulty."We can't actually survive past the eighth respawn, but there are more levels because we know gamers..."
Undead Labs
"So, you spawn in the world and play as you remember, but without the story stuff. And when you've picked the world clean oryou're bored, you find an RV, load it with supplies and whichever survivours you want to take with you and who you'll leave to die."Then you drive to 'the next valley': same map, respawned resources...and more difficult. More zombies, harder zombies, fewer supplies. The RV also respawns in a different place, so you need to find it/repair it/reload it before you can move to the next valley."There are new achievements, she said, new leaderboards, and you can unlock special Hero survivours."Heroes have special stats and elite weapons, and they're taken from characters you couldn't play in the original, like Judge Lawton. Once you've unlocked a Hero, that character is always in your pool of possible survivors in subsequent playthroughs (and you can choose one Hero to start with in subsequent playthroughs as well). But who you find on each level is still random."It sounds simple," she added, "but it actually massively increases the replayability of the game. We can't actually survive past the eighth respawn, but there are more levels because we know gamers..."

Microsoft's 'Games with Gold' initiative will make the jump to Xbox One in 2014, the firm has announced.
"Great news: Access to free games each month is coming for Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox One," revealed Microsoft's Larry Hryb via Twitter. "Details coming later in 2014," he added.
Games with Gold, currently an Xbox 360-only program, is Microsoft's answer to PlayStation's widely praised Instant Game Collection, offering two titles for free to Gold subscribers each month. Games downloaded during their free period remain available to the user for good, even if their Gold subscription expires.
Games offered through the service so far include Fable 3, Defense Grid: The Awakening, Assassin's Creed 2, Crackdown, Dead Rising 2 and DR2 prologue Case Zero, Magic 2013, Rainbow Six Vegas, Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes and more recently Halo 3.
The Games with Gold program was originally announced at E3 in Juneas a limited-time promotion, but Microsoft later announced its decision to make it "an ongoing benefit" for Gold subscribers.
Microsoft has confirmed an Xbox One release date of November 22, 2013 in 13 markets. The Xbox One price has been set at £430 / €500 / $500.

Microsoft says Xbox One has overcome its difficult start and is now braced for the biggest launch in its history.
The new console was embroiled in a consumer backlash during May and June over controversial business policies. As a result, the platform holder was forced to abandon some of its plans.
“We unveiled Xbox back in May and it has been an interesting journey for us, I don’t think that will be a surprise for me to say,” said Xbox UK MD Harvey Eagle.
“Where we are now, a few days from launch, is in a good spot. There’s great demand for the console out there and we are wholly focused on launch and excited by that.
“There have been challenges along the way and I think we have done our best to respond to those challenges in what we think has been in the right way for our fans. And we think we have a great launch line-up of games.”
Eagle is the man tasked with putting together the Xbox One UK marketing plan, and is spending more money than ever before in making sure the console’s debut is a spectacular one.
“When we launched Xbox 360 we were very much a challenger brand, and over time became the market leader,” added Eagle.
“It is important that we maintain that challenger mentality that served us so well over this current generation. That said, this is the biggest ever launch we have done, both in terms of the volume expectation we have set ourselves and the investment we have put into launching Xbox One. So it makes this bigger than anything we have done before.”

November 14th, 2013, 23:47 Posted By: wraggster
Xbox marketing boss Harvey Eagle has asked UK stores to be ‘patient’ over Xbox One supply shortages.
Various indie stores have contacted MCV over a lack of Xbox One stock for launch. Microsoft acknowledges there are shortages, but says it hopes to get to a free supply situation at some point in the future.
“There are challenges for things like supply, which is typical for a new platform launch,” admitted Eagle.
“So that means we are not always about to give our trade partners exactly what they ask for us. But we ask for patience, our excellent operations team is working as hard as they can to meet that demand.
“I am confident at one stage in the future we will get to a free supply situation, so I ask for patience until we get to that point.
“But we are incredibly excited about launch and we hope that they are, too, because it is not only a great opportunity for us, but hopefully they see it as an opportunity for them as well.”

Microsoft is auctioning a white Xbox One in the US, and the bidding at the time of writing is at a whopping $11,100. As Major Nelson revealed, the proceeds are going to the Wounded Warrior Project, which supports men and women injured in service of their country. The bidding ends on November 18, at 5.42PM PT (8.42PM ET).
Microsoft will hope its auction isn't plagued by the suspicious bidding UK charity GamesAid had to endure earlier this month. That auction, also for a white Xbox One, had to be pulled after a flurry of astronomic bids, leading to GamesAid selling the console at a set price of £5000 (around $8,000.) This time around, Microsoft is using auction management service Kompolt to pre-qualify any bids over $3,000.
The white edition Xbox One is normally reserved for Microsoft IEB employees, so you won't find it at retail stores when the console launches next week on November 22. If you have money to burn and a generous heart (and really like the color white), you may like to know the winning bidder also gets a one year Xbox Live Gold subscription, and copies of Forza 5, Ryse, Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, and Crimson Dragon.

By saying "Xbox on" you can turn on the Xbox One, log in using the new Kinect's facial recognition, and hit the system's dashboard, all within 13 seconds. At least, that's going by a video (see below the break) posted by Xbox spokesoldier Larry 'Major Nelson' Hyrb - and yes, we timed it.
In this case, the console's being turned on from standby mode, rather than a cold boot; as Xbox Director of Product Planning Albert Penello explained onReddit, the 'Xbox On' command works when the system's in standby. Also, it appears the Major's signed into Xbox Live (as well as the console itself) by the video's end.
We'll all be able to test this out for ourselves in just over a week's time, when Microsoft's next-gen console launches on November 22, with a price tag of $500.

As much as we love Netflix, we've always found it a bit odd that the browsing experience is fragmented between platforms. Jumping between PS3, Xbox and Roku devices can be a jarring experience, each offering its own spin on the Netflix queue with an inconsistent distribution of the service's best features. Even Netflix is put off by the mixed ecosystem: which is why it's launching a new, unified television experience today.
"About a year and half ago we took a step back to think about Netflix's television experience across devices," explains company director of innovation Chris Jaffe. "What we saw was a mismatch in how Netflix worked relative to how regular TV works, where you just turn it on and things are happening." Jaffe explained that compared to the active browsing experience of traditional channel surfing, Netflix seemed static. "We also looked at the devices and realized that while we've got a great experience on the PS3 and some smart TVs, we've got an Xbox 360 experience that's very different." Fixing these problems required the company to rethink its interface from the ground up. We met up with Netflix to see the results.

Microsoft has said that over 10,000 retailers across the globe will be opening their doors for the launch of Xbox One on November 22nd.
UK retail partners include GAME and Tesco.
Although there’s of course the small matter of PS4’s North American launch on November 15th (Friday) to get out of the way first, Microsoft is doing all it can to keep its machine in the spotlight.
There will Xbox One events in a number of global cities including London, New York, LA, Sydney and Auckland with events being streamed live on Spike TV, Xbox.com and Xbox Live.
The UK event in London features “many surprise performances, celebrity appearances and gameplay”. There will also be a special gathering at Area One ahead of the retail midnight openings.
The US event sounds even more lavish: “The ultimate midnight celebration will take place in Times Square in New York City. The world of Xbox One will come to life as zombies, Roman soldiers and supercars converge on the Best Buy Theatre, where awaiting fans will be among the first in America to receive their consoles and countdown to midnight with great games, entertainment and special surprises.
“The pinnacle of the evening will be a performance by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, streamed outside the Best Buy Theatre, and attended by 1,000 lucky fans who will experience the ultimate Xbox One launch. The first 1000 people in line outside the Best Buy Theatre in Times Square who purchase an Xbox One or Xbox One game will enjoy the concert in-person.”
Added corporate VP of marketing and strategy Yusuf Mehdi: “Today we invite millions of Xbox fans around the world to join us for the launch of Xbox One, beginning on November 21st as we count down the final hours to the launch of Xbox One.
“Xbox One will be the biggest launch in the history of Xbox and we can’t wait to celebrate with our fans.”

Lego Marvel Super Heroes on Xbox One isn't going to be ready in time for the console's 22nd November launch, publisher Warner Bros. has revealed.MCV reported the delay, noting that the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, Vita and 3DS versions are still on track for release this Friday, 15th November. The PS4 version will be ready for that console's launch too, which is on Friday in North America and 29th November in Europe.Warner Bros. could not confirm a new release date for the Xbox One version of Lego Marvel Super Heroes just yet, but said it will provide one "as soon as possible."This is a shame for anyone picking up an Xbox One as EG-contributor Dan Whitehead loved Lego's latest to bits. "It's so generous with its content, so clearly head-over-heels in love with the characters and world it's inherited from the comic page and cinema screen, and so reliably, reassuringly designed from the ground up to both enchant and inspire young minds, that it's impossible to allow the slight technical scruffiness to sour the experience," he wrote in his glowing Lego Marvel Super Heroes review.
