Xbox One's 500 GB hard drive reportedly maxes out around 362 GB used, meaning more than 25 per cent of the console's storage space is used up before any game content files are added.
IGN reports that owners have access to 362-365 GB of space, despite getting no clarification from the hardware itself on what the actual limit is and how much space is currently in use.
The numbers aren't exact as the outlet went about testing the hard drive's space the old fashioned way, and ended up having nothing smaller than a 3 GB title when the 362 GB mark had already been reached.
Microsoft has yet to issue any response or comment on the claim thus far.

Rockstar has released a title update for Grand Theft Auto Online that adds 'beta' versions of its new Deathmatch & Race Creators tools.
The new functionality lets players create their own custom deathmatches and race scenarios with, according to Rockstar, "the same tools our own game design and development teams use".
Custom matches can be made for Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Race, GTA Race and Rally Race modes, accessible from the Online tab of the pause menu.
Rockstar offers a more detailed description of the tools in a new blog post.
In a statement earlier this week, the developer teased GTA 5 players withthe promise of "substantial" single-player story expansions in 2014.
"For those ready to jump back into the story of Grand Theft Auto V, we have big plans for substantial additions in 2014 continuing Michael, Franklin and Trevor's action, mayhem and unexpected adventures in Southern San Andreas," it said.

December 12th, 2013, 00:22 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft's first post-launch patch for Xbox One is available now and includes a set of bug-fixes for the fledgling console.
Anyone hoping for a quick addition of some of the many much-requested Xbox One system features (including those removed from Xbox 360) will be disappointed, however."We've got quite a few updates planned for the next year based on the community feedback we've been seeing," Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb wrote. "I'll have details on those in the future."The issues that have been fixed are more basic - they include SmartGlass compatibility when coming out of standby mode, multiplayer problems when re-joining games, inconsistent notifications for some users, plus wireless networking and dashboard performance issues.Microsoft has also detailed how system updates will install for users of both the Xbox One's power modes.Users with the "Instant On" standby setting activated will have the update pre-downloaded when they boot their console. You will, however, need to manually boot your console as the update will have completely powered it down. The update will then install (it'll take 2-5 minutes), the console will reboot and then you're golden.Users without the "instant on" mode will get the update from tomorrow, 12th December, and will have to wait while the update downloads.

Some people are successfully requesting refunds from Microsoft for Battlefield 4 Premium on Xbox One.They're unhappy about the service they paid £39.99 for, which offered them downloadable content Second Assault as a timed exclusive, and for free. But it didn't work, and those who downloaded it experienced poor connectivity with Battlefield 4 servers ever after.EA and Microsoft announced they were investigating the issue at the end of November, but no results were ever aired. Neither company has responded to our request for comment. So irate Battlelog forum members took matters into their own hands and requested refunds from Microsoft Support, and it worked. They are no longer, however, subscribers to Battlefield 4 Premium - that membership has been revoked. It's unclear whether Sony will offer the same refund for people on PS4. Some customers reported trying, but without an online chat service like Microsoft Support, responses are less immediate.

Microsoft has hiked the price of its Xbox One exclusive games by £5 on the Xbox Games Store. When the Xbox One launched on 22nd November the digital versions of Dead Rising 3, Ryse: Son of Rome and Forza Motorsport 5 were available for £44.99. Now, they're £49.99.Microsoft failed to explain the decision when contacted by Eurogamer, but did point to potential deals and promotions that may be announced in the future."Yes, pricing for select digital content in some markets has changed since launch," the spokesperson said."Digital content pricing is subject to change and we may occasionally offer various deals or promotions. Ultimately pricing and promotions will vary by region."The Xbox One exclusive games are still cheaper than Sony's PlayStation 4-exclusive games on the PlayStation Store. Knack and Killzone: Shadow Fall are £52.99 each. But now in both Microsoft and Sony's case the physical versions of their console exclusives are cheaper than the digital versions.Last month PlayStation UK boss Fergal Gara told Eurogamer in an interview that the pricing of its digital games was affected by Sony's desire to keep shops on-side during the crucial console launch period, but that they would come down in time.

Learn how to use your beloved Xbox 360's headsets on your brand new Xbox One with this easy mod
As there are no commercial adapters nor official 'good' headsets for the Xbox One.
We show you here how to use your current Xbox 360 headsets on the new Microsoft's console.
[QUOTE]
A few facts
The goal of this guide is to make compatible almost any Xbox 360 headset (Combination of headphones and microphone) with the new Xbox One.
At the moment of writing these lines, there are no official adapters (Not from Microsoft nor from Third-parties) to get Xbox 360 headsets running on Xbox One (At least the mic part). There are either no specific headsets for the Xbox One despite the 'crappy' one that comes with some special editions of the Xbox One.
The majority of the actual Xbox 360 headsets work on Xbox One (headphones part) but their mics doesn't.
Microsoft is yet to release an update to get Dolby Digital sound trough Xbox One optical port, so, headsets thats depend on that port will only work in Stereo or DTS.
This guide uses Tritton AX 720 as example head to get it working on Xbox One. This headset is compatible with Xbox 360, PS3 and PC and is capable of simulate 7.1 Dolby Digital surround sound.

December 11th, 2013, 01:34 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft will release a mandatory Xbox One system update on Tuesday afternoon.
Going live at 5pm PST (8pm EST, 1am on December 10 in UK), the update will tackle issues with multiplayer, SmartGlass, notifications, dashboard performance, and wireless networking.
Here are the full patch notes:- Addresses SmartGlass issues for some users when coming in and out of connected standby
- Addresses multiplayer issues for some users when re-joining games
- Addresses issues with inconsistent notifications for some users
- Addresses dashboard performance for some users
- Offers improvements for Xbox One's TV, system update, and content update services for scaling over time
- Updated wireless networking driver to improve connectivity issues for some users
Microsoft says you won't be required to download and install the update until after Thursday, December 12 at 4:00 PM PT (7pm EST, 12am on December 13 in UK), although those who use the Xbox One's "Instant On" feature will find their machines will auto-download the update as soon as it's released.
After the auto-download is complete, the Xbox will shut down completely and the 'Xbox On' voice command won't respond. You'll need to turn on the console manually and install the update fully to re-enable Kinect voice activation.
Here's some further info on the the installation process for 'Instant On' users:- Your console will automatically download the update after you turn it off. Once the update has been downloaded in the background, your console will power completely down. Please note: You will need to manually power your console back on after the update has been downloaded. Because the update will power your console completely down, the "Xbox On" voice command won't be available until after the update is fully installed.
- When you turn the console on you'll see the update being applied. After that, your Xbox One will reboot. You'll know the update is installing when you see the Xbox logo on the green background (like at the top of this post.) This can take anywhere from 2-5 minutes. Once the update has finished installing, you'll boot to the Home screen and you're all set.
- Don't worry, if you are out of town for the holidays, you console also does regular checks for updates and will download it in the background even if you have not used you Xbox One in a couple of days.
Addressing Xbox One owners concerned about a lack of game demos available on the new console, Xbox Live director of programming Larry 'Major Nelson' Hyrb said recently, "It is (and always has been) up to game developers to do demos for their own games. They'll be more demos for Xbox One as the platform goes forward."

Xbox One owners who follow the instructions in a supposed backwards compatibility hack face wrecking their £425 machine.
Kotaku says that an image carrying instructions on how to make an Xbox One backwardly compatible with Xbox 360 games has been doing the rounds online.
However, following the steps takes users into their console’s developer menu and allegedly places the machine into an endless boot cycle that cannot be escaped from.
That it’s possible to break a machine in this way isn’t great – that someone decided to try and trick owners into breaking their machines in the first place is shocking.
NOTE – DON’T EVER, EVER DO THIS OR YOU COULD BREAK YOUR XBOX ONE

EA Popcap will add a supplementary mode, called Duel mode, to Peggle 2. In a post on Facebook, producer Jared Neuss says the studio is hard at work on implementing the free multiplayer mode and will announce more details soon.
Duel mode, which was included in the original Peggle, is a straight-up competitive mode for local and online play that pits two players against each other on the same board. Neuss says the addition of Duel mode is just the beginning of a series of "regular updates" the developer has planned forPeggle 2.
Peggle 2 launched this week as an exclusive on Xbox One. In our review, we said it "remains a foregone conclusion for existing Pegglers and puzzle fans alike, even if it doesn't quite live up to the addiction that destroyed everyone's work ethic back in 2007." New players looking for an edge should check out our 'Stiq Tips feature, which has plenty of advice for maximizing your scores in the sequel.

December 11th, 2013, 00:29 Posted By: wraggster
The Xbox 360 featured a demo for every Xbox Live Arcade release. It had to, because Microsoft made that a mandate. For the Xbox One however, things have changed, and now developers decide whether or not they want to release a demo.
"It is (and always has been) up to game developers to do demos for their own games," wrote Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb on his blog. "They'll [sic] be more demos for Xbox One as the platform goes forward." Hryb was later asked why Microsoft changed its demo policy, but offered no response to that question.
Hryb's statement came in response to discussion of Peggle 2, a recent release that offers players a free demo. That's good, but problematically the Xbox One interface does nothing to separate what were previously considered Arcade games from their retail brethren. As a result, finding the demo is more difficult than it reasonably should be.

Criterion tipped to be working on EA's flagship shooter series, Dead Space dev Visceral also rumoured
DICE may no longer be the sole developer of EA’s Battlefield series.
Analyst Michael Pachter said in an investor note last Friday that his company “believes Criterion Games is working on a military shooter that may become a brand extension for the Battlefield franchise in FY15”.
However, Pachter followed up the report by telling Eurogamer that it was in fact Dead Space developer Visceral Games that was handling the game and not Criterion.
As OXM points out, Visceral had a hand in development of some Battlefield 3 DLC.
The conclusion drawn by many online is that the terrible tech problems that have dogged Battlefield 4 have led EA to look elsewhere for the next game. A more likely explanation is that EA is looking to place two studios in charge of the franchise in an effort to annualise it – which is exactly the same model that Activision has employed with Call of Duty.
Still, EA last month did downplay suggestions that Battlefield would move to a yearly rotation, with CFO Blake Jorgensen stating:
“Battlefield takes us about two years to develop and so you want to make sure that your sharing talent across studios, so you keep core talent of the product and the experience for the consumer there.
“And Battlefield is a product that doesn’t just sell once; it sells for 24 months associated with not just Battlefield, but all the additional Battlefield Premium activities that the consumer wants. So you’ve got to be careful that you don’t destroy some of that tale that is on the Battlefield product.”

Xbox One sold 65,917 units in Australia within three days of its launch, according to the NPD Group.
Described by Microsoft as the most successful console launch in Australia's history, the milestone more than doubles the previous record held by the Nintendo Wii, which sold 32,900 during its launch week.
According to Microsoft Australia's Jeremy Hinton, the results are due to Microsoft "listening to the Australian community".
"This led to the inclusion of the Bathurst track in Forza Motorsport 5, entering the Xbox One Racing Team as a wildcard in the 2013 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, through to the launch of local entertainment apps Network Ten's TenPLAY, SBS On Demand, Quickflix and local music, TV and movies within our Xbox apps, right through to TV and voice control support from day one."
Meanwhile, Forza Motorsport 5 was the bestselling Xbox One title in the week following the console's launch.
The news comes amid a shortage of PS4 units in Australia.
"I've never seen demand like we are seeing now with PlayStation 4," Ephraim said in a statement on the day after the console's November 29 launch.
"Even though we are getting more PS4 consoles in before Christmas, our retail partners tell us that they don't expect many to be left on the shelves by the time Christmas comes."
Retailer EB Games said last month that Xbox One stock is likely to deplete in the lead up to Christmas, though Microsoft said in a statement today that it will continue to ship stock to retailers in the lead up to Christmas.

Microsoft has told CVG it is "not aware" of any NSA surveillance activity on Xbox Live following fresh reports of government snooping on its online gaming network.
According to a new report, US and UK spy agencies have assembled technology that collects data from Xbox Live, and have infiltrated online games like World of Warcraft in a bid to uncover terrorist activities.
Microsoft has issued a statement in response, denying all knowledge of any government snooping, but not ruling out the possibility. "We're not aware of any surveillance activity," a Microsoft spokesperson told CVG. "If it has occurred as reported, it certainly wasn't done with our consent," they added.
The NSA and GCHQ apparently regard Xbox Live as a potential meeting place for terrorist cellsA Guardian article made the claims based on new documents allegedly obtained from the NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.
One document, written by an NSA analyst to his superiors in 2008 andpublished on Monday, is titled 'Exploiting Terrorist Use of Games & Virtual Environments'.
The briefing called for government intelligence agencies to start collecting gamers' chat logs, and also suggested deploying real-life agents into virtual worlds like World of Warcraft and Second Life. These game communities were described as a "target-rich communications network" where targets could "hide in plain sight".
Infiltrating online gaming communities apparently became such a common practice among agencies including the NSA, its UK sister agency GCHQ, the FBI and CIA, that it was necessary to put in place measures to ensure these groups weren't inadvertently infringing on each other's work.
The report claims that, by September 2008, the agencies had built "mass-collection capabilities" against Xbox Live, including GCHQ succeeding in accessing discussions between different users of Microsoft's service, which has over 48 million account holders.
It also alleges that GCHQ and the NSA extracted World of Warcraft metadata in a bid to link "accounts, characters and guilds" to Islamic extremism and arms dealing efforts.
It is unclear whether the tranche of data leaked by Snowden shows that such surveillance had ever foiled any terrorism plots. Nor is it clear whether spy agencies had evidence suggesting terrorist organisations were using online gaming networks to communicate.
While it's unclear how the data was used, or how many communications were collected, the operations raise serious concerns about the privacy of gamers online.
While the NSA declined to comment on the reports revelations, a spokesperson for GCHQ said the agency did not "confirm or deny" them, but added: "All GCHQ's work is carried out in accordance with a strict legal and policy framework which ensures that its activities are authorised, necessary and proportionate, and there is rigorous oversight, including from the secretary of state, the interception and intelligence services commissioners and the Intelligence and Security Committee."
A Blizzard spokesperson said: "We are unaware of any surveillance taking place. If it was, it would have been done without our knowledge or permission."
Microsoft, which was revealed to have provided Skype data to the NSA in the past, did not respond to requests for comment.
Recently, a senior Microsoft executive downplayed speculation that Kinect could be used as an advertising platform, where a user's emotional state and response could be captured and sent to the advertiser, or as a device that captures video information without permission.
