Twitch expects introduction of new functionality will be a matter of months, no ETA from Microsoft
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
[h=3]Twitch TV[/h]twitch.tv
Xbox One users eager to show off their skills online will have to wait a while longer. The Twitter feed for livestreaming service Twitch warned users yesterday that it still doesn't know when that functionality will go live.
"There is no ETA at this time from Microsoft," Twitch said. "Expect a few more months. If we know sooner, we'll update."
Microsoft announced live-streaming gameplay through Twitch as a built-in Xbox One function at E3 2013, but just days before the console's debut, Microsoft said itwouldn't be ready for launch. The delay was necessary to ensure the feature "meets the expectations of the Twitch community," Microsoft said at the time.
While direct broadcasting of gameplay isn't an option at the moment, there is a workaround of sorts. Xbox One owners should still be able to share their video using the Xbox One Game DVR and Upload Studio to upload videos to Microsoft's cloud-based SkyDrive service. From there, gamers can download the clips and re-upload them on the service of their choice.

Customers have ordered over $1m worth of pizza through the Xbox 360’s Pizza Hut app in just four months.
"It's been a source of unbelievable growth for us," Pizza Hut’s PR director Doug Terfehr told Polygon. "Just the explosion of people who wanted to download it, experiment with it, play with it with Kinect.
While the company is unwilling to talk specifically about rolling out its app onto other consoles, it does admit to being in “ongoing conversations” with other platform holders.
It did, however, specify that it is waiting for the Xbox One install base to grow before expanding onto Microsoft’s newest machine.
“As soon as we did one, everyone was contacting us to do the next [one]. When you talk about a sweet spot for the pizza category it's definitely gamers and gaming. We're not done in that space."

The Xbox One’s social functionality will be the core focus of the Microsoft’s next software update for the console.
“The feedback we've gotten is pretty valid,” Xbox chief product officer Marc Whitten told Engadget. “Some of the social stuff is hidden or harder to use than it was on the Xbox 360.
“So you're gonna see us come out with an update where, well, we're going to fix those things. As a person who's been pretty involved in building Xbox Live for the last decade, I take it pretty seriously when people say it's harder to get into a party, and the defaults aren't right, and I don't like the model.
“So what I'm trying to do with the team is kind of theme some stuff up. Let's take an update and really go through a big list of what we're hearing from customers, what we know is broken with the architecture, areas that we want to improve or complete. I think that's a theme you'll really see us push on – that Live experience.”

Microsoft is working on a big Xbox One update to address user criticisms and complaints over Live, according to Marc Whitten. The Xbox Corporate VP told our Engadget chums that "the Live experience" - which isn't a Saturday night TV show - is something the company intends to "really push on."
"The feedback we've gotten is pretty valid," Whitten told Engadget. "Some of the social stuff is hidden or harder to use than it was on the Xbox 360. So you're gonna see us come out with an update where, well, we're going to fix those things.
"As a person who's been pretty involved in building Xbox Live for the last decade, I take it pretty seriously when people say it's harder to get into a party, and the defaults aren't right, and I don't like the model. So what I'm trying to do with the team is kind of theme some stuff up. Let's take an update and really go through a big list of what we're hearing from customers, what we know is broken with the architecture, areas that we want to improve or complete."
So, when will see that update? Whitten didn't exactly say, although Engadget notes that based on its chat, "it sounds like those Live fixes are coming sooner [rather] than later."
Another element's in the works is game stream broadcasting, which last we heard was targeted for "the first part of 2014." Don't expect that anytime too soon, though. Whitten's vagaries to Engadget suggest we'll see it before the next E3, while a more clear-cut Twitch tweet says, "There's no ETA from Microsoft. Expect a few more months."

Though Far Cry Classic will reach European territories as part of the Far Cry: The Wild Expedition compilation, it will also see a standalone release on the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network come February 12. Whether the game will appear in America remains unknown.
Ubisoft describes Far Cry Classic as an "HD revamp" of the original Crytek-developed shooter. "FarCry Classic is the premiere and ultimate console version of the very first FarCry game," reads the publisher's official description. "Take the role of charter boat captain, Jack Carver, who finds himself hunted by an unrelenting team of highly trained mercenaries in this nature-gone-wrong FPS adventure. This HD revamp features stunningly realistic foliage, real-time day and night cycles, drivable underwater and flying vehicles which you can commandeer, and more..."
When it debuts on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, Far Cry Classic will cost European gamers £8. There is no word on a price point for the still-hypothetical US release of Far Cry Classic, nor any official word confirming that the game will appear outside of Europe. Ubisoft did recently announce aFar Cry Compilation for American fans, but Far Cry Classic is omitted from that collection. We've attempted to contact Ubisoft for more information, but have yet to hear back.

The developer of Painkiller and Deadfall Adventures has announced its new first-person shooter: Get Even.Get Even, from Polish studio The Farm 51, is due out on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2015.It's said to blur the lines between single-player and multiplayer with "ambitious new dynamic and photorealistic graphics". The teaser trailer is below. The story is focused on the memories of the game's heroes. The route the player chooses to follow determines the hereos' personality as the plot unfolds. The Farm 51 said Get Even mixes elements of thriller and horror with exploration."When players embark on a single-player mission, others on the network can join the quest as enemies, so players never know whether their opponents are human or CPU-based," the developer explained."This suspense further heightens the player's feeling of a threat."The game features weapons that fire around corners, so you can shoot from a safe position. Weapons can be linked with the player's in-game smart phone to add a sight functionality."As an independent developer, it would be foolish to go head-to-head with the larger companies and create a 'me too' knock-off, and frankly we wouldn't be interested in doing it," said The Farm 51 boss Wojtek Pazdur."We believe that there is still a ton of content and design creativity that has yet to be explored in first-person genre, as well as an audience beyond the warfare player -- those are the people we are going for with Get Even."

Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer has spoken about his disappointment at his company’s decision to postpone the launch of Xbox One in some territories.
"I wish we had the global coverage that we originally announced when we stood on stage at E3," he said toldOXM. "I stood on stage and talked about 21 markets.
"It never feels good to stand on stage and talk about 21 markets and ship in 13, but it's a journey, and it's not won or lost the day after launch. It will be something that plays out, so making sure the quality of each market when we ship is the important part.
“There were things around the voice models and other things we needed to make sure were right in order to really build a box that felt native to the markets we were shipping in.”
Xbox One was delayed in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland in August and is still without a launch date in those territories. Nor has it been dated for Japan.
The company subsequently blamed Kinect localisation issues and not inventory concerns for the decision.

January 7th, 2014, 23:45 Posted By: wraggster
2K Sports has officially canceled its MLB 2K baseball game series. A 2K representative told Joystiq today that it has "decided not to renew our MLB 2K series for 2014. We are very proud of the achievements made by the MLB 2K team and look forward to their contributions to our future titles, including NBA 2K - our industry's #1 rated and #1 selling basketball franchise."
The final game in the series was MLB 2K13, a game that was panned criticallyfor its stark similarities to its predecessor, MLB 2K12. The confirmation of the series' closure comes after the publisher took steps to remove the brand from its various pages – an indicator that it no longer has the appropriate licensing obligations to fulfill.
As pointed out by Pastapadre, 2K Sports recently took down its Facebook page for the series, videos from its YouTube page and forwarded each landing page for games in the series to its global 2K website. Of the few MLB-branded pages that remain are a few of the game's online manuals, though it's uncertain how long those will be available to view.
Being that 2K Sports was the only company delivering a simulation baseball game for Microsoft's Xbox 360, thanks to an exclusive third-party licensing agreement it signed with the MLB, the Xbox One will be without a Major League Baseball game for the time being. The MLB: The Show series is developed by Sony's San Diego studio, which will launch MLB 14: The Show this spring on PS3, PS4 and Vita.

The third installment in the WWE 2K14 downloadable content roadmap arrives today, bringing with it a handful of famed old school wrestlers and new character creation items.
For a purchase price of $9, the aptly titled "WWE Legends and Creations Pack" offers players a chance to step into the squared circle as "Ravishing" Rick Rude, "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, Bruno Sammartino or Jake "The Snake" Roberts (pictured above, mid-DDT). Virgil is also included in the DLC pack, though fans with fond memories of his time working as Ted DiBiase's valet will be happy to hear that 2K plans to also release the virtual Virgil as a free taste of today's DLC additions. Finally, the WWE Legends and Creations Pack adds 14 new character heads to the host of items already included in the game's wrestler creation suite.
Those who purchased the WWE 2K14 Season Pass will receive this DLC for free, though keep in mind that this is the last addition the game will receive. We checked with 2K this morning to see if the publisher had any future plans forWWE 2K14 DLC, but were told that "today's release is the last one currently scheduled for WWE 2K14."

According to a source at The Division developer Ubisoft Massive, the PC, PS4 and Xbox One game won't be able to meet its projected 2014 launch. The game takes place in New York as it's swept up in a global pandemic triggered during Black Friday.
"The game engine works well, it's not done but works well. The actual game development has barely started, however," a Ubisoft Massive source has toldGameReactor. "The fact that Ubisoft has gone public with a 2014 release date feels laughable to be perfectly honest, we will never be able to release The Division this year. It's a large project, and we have very far to go."
We contacted Ubisoft and were given the standard boilerplate response: "We do not comment on rumors or speculation."
The Division, an online open-world RPG with shooter elements set in the Tom Clancy universe, was revealed at E3 last year. A subsequent press release from Ubisoft following the announcement guaranteed the game for 2014, though CEO Yves Guillemot clarified during an investor's call a month later that release would be closer to the end of 2014 than the beginning of the year.

An Xbox rep has reaffirmed that Halo 5 for Xbox One will be released in 2014.
Microsoft's senior PR manager for Halo, Rob Semsey, moved to appease the concerns of gamers who noted that, in an announcement on Mondayregarding Xbox One sales, Microsoft exec Yusif Mehdi left Halo out of his list of anticipated Xbox One games coming in 2014.
Mehdi boasted of a "promising" lineup of Xbox One titles in 2014, touting Titanfall, Watch Dogs and several other games, but no mention of Halo 5 - which was announced at E3 last year for a 2014 release.
But this is not an indication of a delay, assured Semsey via Twitter. "Xbox Wire today mentioned a few 2014 titles; Halo on Xbox One not listed due to official name of the next title not announced yet," he reasoned (although the title is expected to be 'Halo 5').
"Rest assured your next Halo journey WILL begin in 2014," he added.
Mehdi announced that Microsoft had sold more than three million Xbox One units by the end of 2013 globally. "It's been incredible to see Xbox One selling at a record-setting pace for Xbox", he said.

DiRT and Grid developer Codemasters has hinted that it has multiple unannounced rally titles in development for 2014.Codies recently quizzed fans about what they'd like to see from the studio this year via the studio's official Twitter account (thanks, Videogamer)."Definitely a new DiRT/rally game," one fan replied. "But you're working on one already aren't you?""Well we're not," Codemasters responded. "Not working on one "The developer confirmed in a separate conversation that it also had no plans to abandon current (last?) generation platforms. It has been nearly two years since the last DiRT game for consoles - DiRT Showdown launched in May 2012. Grid 2 then launched in May 2013.Codemasters also owns the licence to the F1 series - another instalment of that for 2014 is all but confirmed.

"We are continuing to work hard to deliver additional consoles to retailers as fast as possible."Looking ahead, the Xbox One will host such exclusives as Project Spark, Sunset Overdrive, and Halo-something-or-other.Last we checked, the PS4 had sold 2.1 million units by 3rd December, but Sony has yet to announce its latest console's sales figures at the end of the calender year.

Now that Eastbound & Down is over, the creative team behind that show is launching a new animated series on FX called Chozen. Microsoft has snagged an exclusive for the premiere episode, so owners of the Xbox One can load up their FXNow app January 6th and watch a week before it airs on TV. We don't expect the cable companies to be too upset though, since, like the Fox Sports Go NFL Playoffs streaming setup you'll need a subscription with participating TV providers to actually view the episode. AT&T U-Verse, Comcast, Cablevision, Suddenlink and WOW are all on the list, while everyone else will have to wait until the 13th when it comes on after a new episode of Archer.
This could be a sign of the growing relationship between Microsoft and traditional TV providers, or it could just be Fox snagging some extra promotion before its new show hits. The title character Chozen is a fresh-out-of-prison gay white rapper voiced by SNL's Bobby Moynihan, taking on the music industry, while other characters are voiced by the likes of Method Man, Hannibal Buress, Michael Peña, and Nick Swardson. Either way, we'll see how close the two sides are after Microsoft debuts its own original content later this year.

Team-based first-person-shooter Rekoil is set for a late January release on PC and Xbox Live Arcade for $14.99, publisher 505 Games confirmed with Polygon this week. Steam users will be able to load up and aim for each other's vital organs on January 28, with Xbox Live Arcade players following suit on January 29 with Rekoil: Liberator.
Aside from their names, 505 Games explained that Liberator will be different "in that it does not support mod tools and/or eSports the way the PC version does."
The XBLA listing notes multiplayer for up to 10 players, which sounds like a decent-sized group to leverage the game's five classes and 40 weapons against each other. Rekoil will also launch with 10 maps and seven game modes.

The Xbox One could see a reduction in RRP earlier than previously anticipated, according to one US analyst.
"We think 'winning' is important to both companies," Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter told investors.
"It is possible that Microsoft will reduce Xbox One pricing far faster than we have forecasted. Should hardware prices come down faster than we have modelled, it is likely that hardware and software sales will grow faster."
As it stands, however, Pachter believes Sony is the winner elect with forecasted sales by the end of 2016 of 37.7m units, 30 per cent ahead of Xbox One’s predicted 29m.
Pachter, ever a fan of Wii U, predicts 20m sales of that console in the same time period – and that’s on the presumption that Nintendo cuts the price by 50 per cent. He also says that it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that Nintendo will kill the console completely before 2016.
He also thinks PS4 will be $100 cheaper by 2016 and Xbox One $150 cheaper.

Microsoft is listening keenly to gamer feedback on Xbox One, which will help it deliver updates to make it "the Xbox fans are expecting".
So said Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb in a discussion over the firm's extensive plans to update the console following its launch in November 2013.
"If you look back at the Xbox 360′s launch, what it was in 2005 when it launched is completely different from what it is now," Hryb toldCanada.com. It's fascinating to see the different things that have come along. Things iterated," he pointed out.
"So we are absolutely committed to adding new features to the Xbox One over the course of its life span."
Microsoft is listening to feedback "daily", Hryb went on to say, and is using this this information to shape its development of the console.
"When we look back and look at what we've done, we want to continue to adapt the system to what gamers want. The team that works on Xbox are gamers themselves. We want to build the system that we use and that we know gamers would enjoy using," said Hryb.
"We're going to continue to refine the system and make it what the Xbox fans are expecting and what they want. We're listening to the feedback every single day. I've already seen some changes in the operating system internally with what we're building."
The firm has already released updates for the console, with a recent one said to have tackled issues with multiplayer, SmartGlass, notifications, dashboard performance, and wireless networking.
Microsoft Studios corporate vice president Phil Spencer revealed recently that, as late as mid-2013, the company had considered removing the Xbox One disc tray and making its new system avoid physical media entirely, but decided against such a move due to "bandwidth and game size" issues.
