There's a neat pile of new evidence suggesting EA is making an open-world Star Wars game as well.Job postings at EA Canada, dug up by Superannuation on Kotaku, dished the dirt."Tum ti tum ti tum."
An animation director vacancy revealed EA Canada was working on "a major new next gen open world game". The studio's recruiter (at the time) then revealed this to be a Star Wars project.EA hasn't before linked the Vancouver studio with the 10-year Star Wars deal it signed this year. The studios mentioned as working on the IP were DICE (Battlefront), Visceral Games and BioWare. As superannuation pointed out, EA Canada and Visceral could be working on one and the same game. "Multi-site development" was mentioned in the animation director vacancy, and executive producer job ads for both studios shared many similarities.Major publishers involving one or more teams in the development of a big game is something we've become accustomed to in recent years. And open-world games like the Assassin's Creed series take a huge effort to make. They're also incredibly popular at the moment, and Star Wars hasn't yet inspired an open-world game that's been released. Question is, will you be a Force user or not?

EA and Microsoft are probing reports that Battlefield 4's Second Assault DLC is unavailable for Xbox One users who have bought Battlefield Premium.Image credit: Kevin Beaumont.
The add-on is exclusive for 11 days on Microsoft's platform and is free for anyone who holds a Premium subscription. It includes tweaked versions of four popular maps from Battlefield 3.Logging on to the in-game Premium store lists the pack as "NULL DATA". Its description is listed as "null description", and its price - which should be free - is listed as "empty". It can't be selected or downloaded.Angry Battlefield 4 owners have filled a thread on the game's official forums with their experiences attempting to get the issue acknowledged and solved through EA and DICE's official channels. Some were told the issue could not be resolved until next week - after the DLC's exclusivity period is up and it is released for other platforms. An EA spokesperson has now responded to the issue and said the company is looking into fixing the matter with Microsoft."I know some of you have said already that it is being looked into, I wanted to just confirm that for you so you guys have a blue [staff] post to refer to," EA_Rick wrote. "Right now all I can say is that we are aware of this issue and are currently investigating this with Microsoft. Once we have some more details I'll be sure to let you know."We've asked EA for more information on the error and will update when we hear more.

Toys R Us is getting a fresh shipment of PS4 and Xbox One consoles, the retailer has announced. Beginning at 12:01am ET tonight, through the Toys R Us website, folks can order a console while supplies last.
This is online-only, so don't go banging on the doors of your local brick-and-mortar at midnight tonight. Xbox One will also be available in-store, while supplies last, on Saturday, November 30 on a first-come, first-served basis. Call your local store on Friday to see what the exact plan is for your store.
As for Black Friday deals, Toys R Us is offering a Skylanders Swap Force starter kit at $37.49 as well as a Disney Infinity starter kit at the same price. If you pick up Just Dance 4 or Call of Duty: Ghosts, you can snag another game for 50 percent off. The best bargain, though, is a "Buy One, Get One 40 percent Off" promotion that applies to all games, regardless of platform.

Recent job listings posted by Electronic Arts indicate that an open-world Star Wars game is in development. One of the listings, seeking an animation director for EA Canada, is for "a major new next gen open world action game" in the beloved sci-fi property. The same description is listed for an executive producer position and a lead combat designer position at the studio, which was linked to the Star Wars property by a former recruiter for the publisher onTwitter.
The concept of an open-world Star Wars game isn't new, as Just Causedeveloper Avalanche Studios nearly signed with LucasArts to develop one sometime between 2005 and 2009. Likewise, LucasArts' Star Wars 1313 was reportedly being developed as an open-world game before Disney closed the developer and halted the game's development in April.
EA obtained the exclusive rights to develop and publish Star Wars games in May, later announcing a new DICE-developed Star Wars: Battlefront game at E3, expected to arrive in mid-2015. The publisher also recently claimed that it willnot pursue any games based on the new movies in the series.

While the past few Forza Motorsport entries have offered players new packs of additional cars long after each game's debut, Forza 5 takes things to a whole new level. Our largely positive review described the game as enjoyable but anemic, but Forza creative director Dan Greenawalt stands by the team's design choices.
In a Shacknews interview, Greenawalt was asked why so much content appears to be missing from Forza 5 while developer Turn 10 Studios continues to promote upcoming DLC additions that should flesh out the racing simulation. "Forza Motorsport 5 is actually the largest racing game ever delivered at the launch of a console, by a long shot," Greenawalt states. "In fact, it would be huge even by second holiday standards. As mentioned above, it is bigger thanForza 2, which was delivered a year and half after the launch of the Xbox 360. It also has more car diversity than any previous Forza Motorsport; by including open wheel race cars and track toys like the KTM X-Bow and the Ariel Atom on top of the diversity that took us years to build up across multiple iterations on the Xbox 360.
"Moreover, we've defined an uncompromised quality bar for new generation racing games in both car and track detail and immersion - all while, delivering unprecedented size," Greenawalt says.
"Regarding DLC, we have found that 10 cars a month is the fastest we could create "just in time" content. Just like in Forza Motorsport 4, we are planning to add as many as 10 cars a month to Forza Motorsport 5. It takes more than six months to build every car. Delivering cars in monthly packs allows us to keep the game new and fresh for those that are interested."
When asked why Forza 5 is missing the iconic Nürburgring track, Greenawalt explains that the new graphics engine in Forza 5 necessitates that all tracks be rebuilt from scratch. While other famed racetracks like Spa were able to make an appearance in Forza 5, there just wasn't time to reproduce the lengthy, complex Nürburgring for the new engine, so instead of porting low-resolution content from Forza 4, the team opted to leave the track absent. "Expect more news on tracks in Forza Motorsport 5 in the near future," Greenawalt added.

Microsoft has confirmed it is working on a fix for issues with Xbox Live connectivity today, November 27.
Xbox users are reporting problems with signing into the service, as well as issues browsing Xbox Live music, video, games and other connected "core" services.
Microsoft has issued a statement via the Xbox Live Status page. "Xbox members, are you having a hard time signing in to Xbox Live? As you read this message, we're moving toward a fix," it said.
In a separate notice, the firm said, "It's come to our attention that our members are having trouble using Bing search to browse for movies, television shows, music, games and apps. We'd like to assure you that we're working to fix this issue as soon as possible."
Xbox One users will also, according to the site, be running into problems "creating new accounts on Xbox Live, managing those accounts, or recovering an account on a different device".
We will update as and when the status changes.

With the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on the scene, the next console generation has finally begun. While a new generation usually brings the promise of more graphical power, great graphics are only part of the gaming equation. What will these new consoles allow developers to do creatively?
GamesIndustry International reached out to a few developers to ask them how next-gen will help them on the creative side of equation. Is it a huge creative leap, or merely a slight evolution?
In its last two titles, Dear Esther and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, independent developer The Chinese Room focused on pushing the first-person game away from the shooting mechanics that usually dominate. The studio's next title, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, is coming to PlayStation 4 with some help from Sony Computer Entertainment. For The Chinese Room, next-gen helps their creative juices just by being easier to work with.
"The blunt reality is that easier production equals more creative freedom and opportunity"
The Chinese Room creative director Dan Pinchbeck
"I think the major thing, from the perspective of actually building games, is less for us about the power - that's brilliant of course, and having significantly higher budgets makes a big difference - but it's more about the ease of working with PS4," The Chinese Room creative director Dan Pinchbeck told GamesIndustry International. "So far, it's just been a dream bit of kit to work with. We've got the advantage of working with CryEngine, another great piece of tech of course, but even then it's been remarkably smooth to get things up and running quickly. That's worth its weight in gold from a production standpoint, and the blunt reality is that easier production equals more creative freedom and opportunity."
According to Braid creator Jonathan Blow, aiming for a single, next-generation set of specifications allowed the team behind The Witness to settle on a single visual style for the game. That title is also heading to PlayStation 4 in 2014.
"Creatively, we build and we assume that we have enough power in rendering," explained Blow. "When we were planning the look of the island, we had a couple of choices. Do we target the PlayStation/Xbox 360 class of machines or do we move to next-generation consoles? Because development was going long, we decided we were going to be in the next console cycle anyways."

Xbox One has signed on multiple Japanese development studios to make full retail releases for Xbox One.
The firm's corporate vice president Phil Spencer confirmed the new deals to Kotaku, stating that the unannounced titles will be revealed at some point in 2014.
Spencer added that they will be “full Japanese games,” not downloadable content. He also expects an increase in Japanese indie developer interest in Xbox One.
"We kicked off our independent developer program when were at Tokyo Game Show and saw some top talent walk through the door, so I think you'll see some indies too,” Spencer said.
“I'm committed to the development there."

Someone telling you they can feel your heartbeat is a sweet, intimate act. Most of all when you’re with your lover; slightly less sweet when it’s your doctor, and not all that sweet really when it’s a bearded man screaming it through your letterbox in the night. With the release of the Xbox One, there’s a new category that’s possibly the least sweet of all – an inanimate object that tells you it can feel your heart beating via its frightening infrared camera. Previously, videogame hardware capable of seeing into your body had been limited to Nintendo’s follow-up to the Virtual Boy, 1997′s unpopular Endoscope & Watch. Now, with Kinect, Microsoft aren’t happy with just owning the living room, they want to stake a claim on the internal organs and blood of the people sat in it.On the surface this seems like a terrifying and unnerving violation of your privacy, partly because it unarguably is a terrifying and unnerving violation of your privacy. When asked whether they’d like a tiny robot with the ability to see in the dark and understand human speech to sit silently watching them like a cross between fictional serial killer Buffalo Bill, an actual serial killer, and that robot from The Black Hole, most people would respond “no”. Kinect is inherently a bit creepy. It could measure you for a suit without you knowing. In a pitch-black room, it could not only determine whether there was a murderer poised behind you with an axe, but also record how long it took you to die. It’s not all watching you while you sleep, though. Having Wall-E’s evil pervert brother peering over the top of your television listening to your heartbeat may seem intrusive now, but it could save lives in the future. Gaming is a stressful, intense pastime – defeating a boss in Dark Souls is the cardiovascular equivalent of lifting weights on an exercise bike in a sauna for an hour and then standing up really quickly -– and if Kinect detects excessive, heart-straining excitement, it could react and dynamically make a game less interesting, with the developers of Ryse reportedly already hard at work on this technology.

Console giant testing the waters with Ryse and Forza 5
Microsoft is still learning how to implement microtransactions on its Xbox One console, according to Microsoft Studios boss Phil Spencer.
Speaking to Kotaku, Spencer said the firm was still working out its strategy for in-game purchases, but is already testing the waters with Turn 10's Forza 5 and Crytek's Ryse.
He said Microsoft would look at the analytical data provided by these initial releases to shape how it tackles microtransactions in future.
"I want to be able to learn from what we put in," said Spencer.
"So let's make sure we are crafting the game and the analytics so we can see what the consumers - the gamers - like and don't, if you assume buying habits are a reflection of what people like. So that we can craft the experience better for the gamer."
Spencer added that rather than aiming for some sort of 'pay-to-win' scheme, players often preferred to pay for extra customisation of their game or character and finding new styles of play.
"It's easy to say something like, 'I'll never allow somebody to buy the win of the game, I won't let them buy victory,' but that's kind of a trite answer," he said.
"I'd say, yeah, I guess I have that line, that [we wouldn't have] 'Pay five bucks and get 1000 achievements or something stupid like that. I'm always pushing against that. But, in reality, that's not what the gamers are looking for. They're usually looking for customisation and their gameplay style opening up."
Microtransactions have become the most widely used business model in the mobile space, where free-to-play titles use the model to drive revenues.
One of its leading champions, Supercell, was thought to be making $2.4 million from just Clash of Clans and Hay Day through in-game purchases.

Users on eBay have sold 12,000 Xbox One consoles since November 1, with 7,000 of those sales during launch weekend, November 22 - 24. There are currently 8,000 Xbox One listings on eBay, the site says. Generally these consoles sell for more than the retail price of $500 because that's how this resale thing works.
Microsoft sold 1 million Xbox Ones in the console's first 24 hours – and now we know at least 12,000 of those have already been recycled in the second-hand market.

"There was no way we were going to turn around with 343 a full Halo game in a year"
[h=3]343 Industries[/h]
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
Phil Spencer, corporate vice president of Microsoft Studios, has explained why the Xbox One launch title line up is missing its quota of Master Chief.
"A couple of years ago we had the discussion of: 'Should we do Halo at launch and not do Halo 4 last year?'" Spencer told Kotaku.
"But I was committed to getting Halo 4 done last year, and there was no way we were going to turn around with 343 a full Halo game in a year. So that was the plan we set on. I feel good about that."
Halo 4 launched in November last year and grossed a record breaking $220 million on launch day and $300 million in its opening week, according to Microsoft figures.
Spencer said that creating a new Halo title in time for Xbox One would have meant starting in 2010, and the bigger priority was letting 343 Industries ship their first internal project.
"Unlike some franchises that manage through 1,000 people, Halo is 343 and that team obviously has tight control. They are our Halo team," he explained.
"A discussion around having a Halo game at launch-a true Halo at launch, meaning like a Halo 4 or 5-size game-would have been something we'd have had to start two or three years ago. We had the discussion, and we thought having Halo 4 come out when it came out from 343 and having them really land their first full version of Halo that they developed internally would be great for the 360 customers, great for 343 in shipping something."
No one can doubt Microsoft's commitment to the Halo franchise though, it was a major part of the Xbox One announce with the reveal of a new, live action Halo TV series directed by Steven Spielberg. Top-down third-person shooter Halo: Spartan Assault is due for release on Xbox 360 and Xbox One next month, and Xbox has confirmed that a new Halo title is in development for Xbox One.

IHS teardown suggests that Microsoft, like Sony, is roughly breaking even on its new hardware
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
The Xbox One costs gamers $499 to buy, and it costs Microsoft nearly that much to make. That's according toAllThingsD, which was given an early look at a teardown report of the system from research firm IHS.
All told, the firm estimates that each Xbox One costs Microsoft $471 in parts and manufacturing, compared to the $381 it pegged as Sony's PS4 costs. But where Sony's expenditures mainly went to the CPU and memory, Microsoft's top-dollar components were the CPU and Kinect camera. The AMD microprocessor at the heart of the Xbox One was estimated to be about $110 with "at least" $75 devoted to the Kinect motion-sensing camera. Microsoft also opted for older, less costly memory than Sony did, so the Xbox One chips cost about $60, compared to the $88 Sony is believed to spend on each PS4's memory.
While it makes it difficult for Microsoft to turn a profit on the hardware after shipping and retailers take their cut, that cost of materials is still a significant improvement over the last generation. Shortly after the Xbox 360 launched, an iSuppli teardown put Microsoft's cost at $525 for the premium model of the hardware, which retailed for $399.

Microsoft is compensating those with a defective Xbox One console with a free game.
Reports emerged over the weekend of disc drive problemsin some units. Polygon reports that upon contacting Microsoft affected customers are being offered a free download of either Dead Rising 3, Forza 5, Ryse or Zoo Tycoon.
"While a replacement console is on its way, we want to ensure our advance exchange customers can stay in the game," the company said. "We will provide each of them with a free digital download of one of the launch titles published by Microsoft Studios."
Microsoft maintains that the issues are only affecting “a very small number of customers”.

Call of Duty: Ghosts has emerged as the big winner in the next-gen games race, Activision has claimed.
The publisher says that Ghosts is the best-selling Xbox One and PS4 title “at leading retailers” (that’s GameStop, best Buy, Walmart and Target) in North America. It also reckons it’s the most played Xbox One multiplayer game and the most played PS4 game.
In addition, if you strip out games sold as part of Xbox One hardware bundles, Ghosts is the platform’s best-selling game in the UK, too.
“Around the globe, Call of Duty: Ghosts is leading the next generation. It’s the #1 selling title at key retailers and it’s also the most played game on Xbox One and PS4 globally,” Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg satetd.
“As we’ve said before, we’ve got the best community of fans in the world and we’re thrilled they’re coming with us to the next generation.”
Microsoft’s corporate VP of marketing and strategy Yusuf Mehdi added: “As home to the largest and most engaged Call of Duty community, it is no surprise that the newest entry in the blockbuster franchise has quickly become the most played multiplayer game on both Xbox One and Xbox 360.
“We congratulate our partners at Activision and Infinity Ward and are proud to continue offering the best and most engaging Call of Duty online experience to our fans globally by launching all Call of Duty: Ghosts map packs first only on Xbox.”

November 27th, 2013, 00:21 Posted By: wraggster
Xbox One owners outside of the US are reportedly encountering a glitch that prevents the creation or transferal of Xbox Live child accounts to the new console.
The issue arrises when the system requests a small payment as verification for the parent Xbox Live account's credit card, as required by the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Users reportthat the process becomes stuck in an endless loop, repeatedly asking for re-authorization no matter how many times the user complies.
The issue is thought to relate to a glitch with the account region process; child accounts appear to be automatically assigned a Microsoft account that's set up for a US resident. This causes the credit card verification process to fail when the user attempts to register a non-US credit card, according to OXM.
The issue apparently doesn't affect adult Xbox Live account creation since no pre-approved credit card verification is necessary.
A Microsoft rep has said the firm is "looking into" the matter.
Meanwhile, one user has told OXM that Xbox customer support is capable of resolving the issue on a case-by-case basis by manually bypassing the credit card verification process for a specified account. Until the issue is resolved completely, it is advised that affected users call customer support.
This comes after UK Xbox One users reported suffering TV integration issues that result in a stuttering picture. The issue has been linked to the differences in refresh rates between the console (running at 60Hz) and UK TV broadcast standards (at 50Hz).
Read the full report for a suggested work-around.
Microsoft has also announced it will provide free digital titles to those experiencing problems with their Xbox One disc drives.
