FASA has given word on when we can expect the Shadowrun demo to hit Xbox Live Marketplace. As a means to give gamers with Halo 3 Beta withdrawal a quick fix, it will go live on June 6th. It will feature Power Station, and the gametype Raid, with Humans and Elves. It also won't have a time restriction for play, so you may frag to your heart's content, and it doesn't have an announced expiration at the moment.

Posted at bungie.netLike any good chef we're making some changes to the recipe in the Public tastetest we call the Halo 3 Beta. This week we're making our first change to the Matchmaking Playlist . We're swapping out Team Training and adding in Big Team Training. In Big Team Training players will play 6v6 on High Ground and Valhalla. In addition to some existing modes look for some new modes in Big Team Training, like Multi Flag CTF on Valhalla. Additionally, we've made some slight tweaks to the Team Skirmish playlist that should add greater variety in the opponents you'll face.
while on the subject of Halo 3 Beta, are you confused about all the ranks? well Grunts R Us have the all (mostly) listed and explained.

You've probably already seen the leaked weapon and vehicle details unearthed from the Halo 3 beta by modders, but now the no-good dirty hackers have gone and uncovered something even bigger...
By digging through the source data of the multiplayer beta, the modding community has been able to unlock a massive list of on-screen text for both Halo 3's multiplayer and single-player campaign.
One fragment of text modders unearthed was this bombshell:
"The game cannot start because all players are set to observer. Too many players for splitscreen. Only 2 players may play splitscreen coop on the same Xbox 360 console. The party size is too large to start the game. Up to 4 players may play coop on Xbox Live or System Link. Loading information from Xbox Live..."
So if this doesn't turn out to be another Bungie red herring, it looks like Halo 3 is going to sport 4-player campaign co-op via Xbox Live and System Link - a feature that's been begged for inclusion since Halo 1.
Potentially - requiring Halo 3's single-player campaign isn't as rubbish as Halo 2 - this feature could be huge on Xbox Live - and indeed we'll be as happy a butcher's dog if it does in fact make it in.
When Microsoft get back to work tomorrow morning we'll see what it has to say on the matter, but don't count on it being anything other than "we don't comment on rumours and..." etc.

Half-Life 2 Black Box, which contained Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2, was intended for those who didn't want to shell out for Half-Life 2 and Episode One. Look like they don't have a choice now.
"The Black Box has been cancelled," Doug Lombardi, Valve's director of marketing, said to IGN. "We're going to have one package, The Orange Box, available on the PC (US$49.99) as well as the 360 and PS3 (US$ 59.99). In addition to the three new products -- Portal, Team Fortress 2, and Half-Life: Episode Two -- The Orange Box will also contain the full version of Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One.
"Those who purchase the PC version of The Orange Box will get three separate Steam product codes: One for the three new games, one for HL2, and one for Episode One. This way a PC Orange Box owner can give away their Half-Life 2 or Episode One unused Steam product codes if they don't need a copy of those games. We are excited to deliver the highest value of new gaming content ever offered in one box."

Word is beginning to spread that certain people in the Halo modding community have only gone and made some hidden Halo 3 game files public. There are some extreme spoilers in here - should they turn out to be correct - and you've been warned.
Apparently found by retrieving hidden data in the live beta, the details have revealed secret weapons, vehicles and equipment that will appear in the final game come September 26.
The information also suggests new modes and rankings for single and multiplayer campaigns.
Now the details aren't confirmed but they look good to us. And don't go expecting Bungie or Microsoft to comment on any of it either. It's all rumour and speculation until you get your hands on the final game.
New equipment:
Instacover
Smoke
Jammer
New vehicles:
Chopper
Pelican
Shadow
New weapons:
Flamethrower
Claymore Grenade
New game mode:
Infection (described as "Destroy the Flood or become infected. Score points for killing flood or big points for infecting a human. The player with the most points wins."
New ranking info:
The highest rankings are now Killpocalypse and Killionaire, instead of Double Kill and Triple Kill.
A reference to a map editor was also made but all information has been removed from the forum in question.

Microsoft has begun a massive cull of gamers running chipped Xbox 360s by banning them all from Xbox Live. Just as the Halo 3 multiplayer beta starts too... Ouch.
According to Xbox-scene.com, its forums are being flooded by posts from users with modified Xbox 360s who have recently been banned from Xbox Live. We tried getting into the forum but they seem to be down under the weight.
An statement on the MS-run Gamerscore website reads, "One of the great things about Live and the unified community is that we work hard to create a level playing field for all gamers and have a no tolerance policy towards inappropriate behavior like hacking or cheating.
Advertisement:
"As part of our commitment to our members, we do not allow people that we have detected to have modified their console to connect to Live. This is an important part of our efforts to try and maintain a fair gaming environment for the large majority of gamers that play by the rules. This topic is more important than ever given the recent release of the Halo 3 beta.
"As a result, some consumers that try to login to Live who we detect have illegally modified their console will get an error code (Status Code: Z: 8015 - 190D) when trying to connect to the service. These users will not have their account automatically banned from Live, but they will no longer be able to access the service from the console they modified.
"We have stated in the past that customers can only enjoy access to the Xbox LIVE community through the use of a genuine, unmodified, Xbox console and we will continue to enforce this rule to ensure the integrity of our service, the protection of our partners and the benefits of our users."

Ryan Payton has said in a Kojima Production podcast that MGS 4 is being built exclusively on PS3 hardware to the specifications Hideo Kojima planned from the start.
"I can tell you honestly at this point, we have not changed the game in any form with the idea of 'oh, we got to do this on 360.' Put aside whether or not we're developing for 360 or not, the game is built on the PS3 hardware, as you guys have known for the past two years or so," he said as reported by 1up.
Interesting...

The second part in CVG's exclusive week-long Splinter Cell: Conviction week has gone live. We talk to Narrative designer Mary De Marle about the evolution of Fisher for the next title in the series.
"What we realised when we started on the project two years ago was that the very status of Sam Fisher was limiting our possibilities of expanding on his personality. Since the main way to convey objectives to Sam was through the military approach, and within the strict guidelines of military realism (Tom Clancy's approach), there was little room to really explore Sam's personality."
Splinter Cell: Conviction differs hugely to previous Splinter Cell games in which Sam's connection with the military gave him all the intel and equipment he'd ever need. Now, this won't come so easily, as Marle says: "What was given (gadgets, intel etc.) now must be earned."

According to several reports hitting the web this morning (this being one of them) Cliff "Cliffy B" Bleszinski of Epic Games confirmed that a sequel to the multi-million selling 360 shooter is indeed a given.
Following a few beers at the Game Developers Choice Awards ceremony in San Francisco, Cliffy B made a presentation early next morning, where he apparently confirmed the sequel would be happening. Gamespot has said that there are no further details on timing or plot available yet and we're still waiting for the old "official" word from either MS or Epic.
Maybe a new Gears announcement is part of Microsoft's surprise E3 attack?

Microsoft's Peter Moore has paid tribute to Rare's recent product history, defending the developer against claims that its output has struggled to keep touch with the critical and commercial successes of its work prior to its acquisition by the Xbox platform holder.
Xbox 360 launch titles Perfect Dark Zero and Kameo: Elements of Power had a "platform-driving presence", Moore, who is Microsoft's corporate vice president of entertainment and devices, told Newsweek.
"It signalled that this wasn't going to be the same as Xbox 1, which was dominated by Mature-rated games, if you will, and for many people will go down in history as the Halo box or the shooter box.
“Kameo was very important. Kameo has done well; Perfect Dark Zero hit our expectations from a sales point of view; but these were two launch titles - and in Kameo's case, brand new intellectual property - that allowed us to get where we needed to go very, very quickly," detailed Moore.
Moore went on to say that while he felt Rare's strength was in titles for broad audiences, he wouldn't rule out more mature titles from the developer just because Bungie and Epic Games seem to give Microsoft the edge in that area already.
"We always allow them the reins to sit down with us when we do concept reviews and allow their creativity to say, 'Here's something three of us have been working on. We've got an idea, and we'd like to prototype this out.'"

Japanese RPG fans rejoice! Well, Japanese fans of RPGs, not fans of Japanese RPGs. You guys can rejoice too if you want. Anyway, Oblivion is being released in Japan all over again, only this time in Japanese! When the game was released in English last year, a petition immediately went up calling for the game to be translated into the native tongue. Understandable really - it was the equivalent of the next Final Fantasy game being released in the states without being translated from Japanese. Trying to play a story driven game while struggling to understand the story sucks.
Then in December we were told by Xbox Japan that a localized version was in the works, for release sometime this year. Well thanks to a co-publishing agreement with Japanese publisher Spike, the game is now set to ship on July 26th.
"We are pleased to be partnering with Bethesda Softworks to bring this landmark role-playing game to Japan," said Mitsutoshi Sakurai, CEO of Spike. "We are sure that Oblivion will enjoy the same level of success and critical acclaim it has achieved in other parts of the world. " He talks as if it was never release in Japan at all. I suppose to many Japanese gamers it wasn't.

It wasn't easy getting Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix on both Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, according to Capcom's Sr. Director of Strategic Planning & Research Christian Svensson. "It requires considerable coordination," he said in an interview with Gamasutra, "but we've been working closely with Sony and Microsoft, and they both agree with our strategy."
In terms of price, Svensson said that they will likely be identical for both platforms. "We're offering the same value as far as the type of content, so it only stands to reason," he said. "If the timing's the same, and if the content is the same, pricing should probably be the same."
Svensson added that multplatform releases, even in the real of downloadable content, would be Capcom's primary focus, but that console-specific content might happen. "Are there exclusive content deals that could be struck? Possibly," he said.

The next game in the Splinter Cell series will be called Conviction, and it will be heading to Xbox 360 and PC at the end of the year.
Details of the fifth Sam Fisher outing were rumoured earlier this month, and it seems Ubisoft has decided not to wait until its Ubidays event to reveal the title.
This time around everything will be different, according to IGN, despite Double Agent's critical success. So the original Ubisoft Montreal team has been called back on board to turn it all on its head.
"[Double Agent] was good, but repetitive over time," Mathieu Ferland, senior producer for the game, told IGN. "After three games we decided to make a big turnaround in the franchise."
Sam Fisher is now a fugitive, pursued by the very government he once served. And to survive he'll need to create an underground network of allies to help him out. But he'll be without all the flashy gizmos he's used to, and will have to rely on using his surroundings and quick thinking over night-vision goggles and remote cameras.
Stealth will still be a key feature, but it's more than simply lurking in darkness. Losing yourself in a crowd and creating distractions will be important, as will using your surroundings as makeshift weapons.
Which all sounds rather similar to Assassin's Creed - the other title in development at Ubisoft Montreal. It seems Sam Fisher will now more closely resemble Jason Bourne than James Bond.
"Improvisation is a concept we wanted to bring to the gamers, as we felt it was one of the strongest shared elements of all spy agents. They have to be able to deal with anything, anytime, anywhere - [but] faster, smarter," Ferland added.
All of which has our appetite truly whetted. Expect more information to crop up soon, as we get ever closer to the looming Ubidays bonanza.

Remember those home-made Halo videos of people using grenades and other crazy techniques to launch the Warthog hundreds of feet through the air? We expected the same from Halo 3 too, but not THIS soon.
The Beta demo has been available to the public for but a few hours and already a group of crazy, glitch-finding ninjas have picked through it and released videos showing them reaching parts of the levels you thought were unreachable.
They use all manner of wacky but cleverly-executed techniques - like hoping off each other's shoulders, using the explosions of grenades and the Spartan Laser to gain extra height and even the Grav Lift to get to small ledges high above the action.
Check out their crazy skills at GameTrailers, but we don't want to see anyone using these techniques to cheat during matches.
There's no giant football though - a hidden secret left for meddling gamers to discover in Halo 2 - but we're hoping there'll be some cool hidden treats in the full game when it launches on September 26.
Video clip here. Leave feedback via comments.
