This quote from the article says it all:
There was some coverage on sites Ars Technica and Kotaku today talking about how Xbox Live Arcade games are not fully transferable to the Xbox 360 Elite. This was mentioned on the Gamerscore Blog last week.
<snip>
Listening to Major Nelson's latest podcast they state they are going to fix the licensing issue. Major said:
'Yes, we know the licensing isn't perfect. We know that. We are working on it.'

Microsoft has stepped up its Xbox Live Arcade output lately by releasing two games each Wednesday. This week the company is expanding on that with three game releases...sort of.
Microsoft today announced this week's slate of Xbox Live Arcade Wednesday releases, and it includes two downloads consisting of three games. Beginning at 2 a.m. PST on Wednesday, Xbox 360 owners will be able to download Big Huge Games' strategy game Catan, as well as a combo pack including Atari's arcade shooters Centipede and Millipede.
Big Huge Games made its name developing the real-time strategy PC series Rise of Nations, but its latest effort stretches back to the roots of turn-based strategy, the board game. Catan, based on the board game Settlers of Catan, drops three or four players onto an uncharted island and has them race to colonize it. Players can compete against one another online or try out one of the game's six different artificial intelligence personalities.
Arcade aficionados will remember Centipede and Millipede as a pair of track-ball-equipped shooters in which players had to eliminate encroaching arthropods through a field of mushrooms while avoiding spiders and other creepy crawlies. Both games will be playable in arcade-authentic and "evolved" varieties, with the latter including prerendered graphics with visual effects like motion blur and particle-based explosions.
Catan will be available for 800 Microsoft points ($10), while the Centipede-Millipede combo pack will sell for 400 Microsoft points ($5). Both downloads are rated E for Everyone.

While it's hardly a secret that the Xbox 360 will be getting a 65nm CPU upgrade sooner or later, China's Commercial Times (not always the most reliable source) is now reporting that the console's Xenos GPU will also be switching over to the cooler, lower-power chips, supposedly sometime this fall. According to the paper, an "engineering version" of the new and improved 65nm Xenos GPU has already been sent out, with production set to get underway in May, which would certainly seem to make a fall launch a possibility. Unfortunately, there's still no word on a possible disc drive upgrade to go along with these other revisions, which we all know is the real culprit for most of the console's noise problems.

We just wanted to remind everyone that FASA's holding an IRC Chat today at 2:00 PM PDT to 6:00 PDT to celebrate the end of the Shadowrun beta. There prizes given out, as well as the opportunity to ask the developers any questions you might have about the June bound FPS. The chat will be on the #Shadowrun.FASA chat channel, on the Gamesurge server. Will you fellow testers out there be playing to night and shooting the breeze with the devs?

Call him Agent Zero, call him The Hibachi, or call him Dr. Crazypants, Gilbert Arenas is now the cover athlete for NBA live 2008. The 6'4" point guard (2 inches short than me) for the Washington Wizards will be appearing on all versions of the game, including the first versions of NBA Live for the Wii and PS3, following the cancellation of the 2007 PlayStation version late last year.
Despite his slightly crazy attitude that fans and players alike have dubbed "Gilbertology," the once second-round draft pick has worked his way up to being an All-Star starter and now what many of today's athletes consider a supreme honor, the EA cover shot.
"This is a dream come true," said Arenas. "I'm a huge gamer and have been playing NBA LIVE since 1995. I never imagined that I would see my face on the cover of an EA SPORTS videogame." Dreams can come true. He's living proof.

According to sources close to equipment manufacturers, later this year we'll be ushering in a new and improved Xbox 360 GPU. A Chinese report in the Commercial Times is stating that the new 65nm 360 GPU will be sent to production in May and make its way into Xbox 360 consoles later this Fall. And we all know the benefits of 65nm technology. So, anyone in the market for a new 360 or jumping in for the first time and going to hold out until the new 65nm technology makes it into the console? Or could you care less unless it would involve an Xbox 360 price cut?

Last week, Crecente went into how to tranfer data from you Xbox 360 to your Xbox Elite by using a a free migration kit that is available on the Microsoft site. What happens when you don't heed the Lord Crecente's words? Apparently, you get all of your arcade games back as demos:
"All the games, all of them, turned into demos that asked me to download the full version. This is very unhappy making. I plug my cable back in and get on the phone.
I'm told by customer service that the only way to get the games working is to get my free data migration cable, and then he asks me to register my system to get the cable... I'm a little upset that among the many cables that come with the Elite they don't give you the data cable like they do with the stand-alone hard drive--and in fact many people online have been talking about their plans to buy the stand alone and return it after using the cable--but I'm even more upset that the cable is reportedly causing the same DRM to kick in with your games... If I bring my Elite to a friend's house that doesn't have ethernet in the living room, we can't play Geometry Wars? That's silly."
Silly and mean.

What was previously known only as Burnout 5 has now become Burnout Paradise, and Criterion is promising "the most explosive pile-ups in the series' history".
"We have been working towards Burnout Paradise for quite some time. Next generation consoles have opened up a raft of new gameplay opportunities and the Criterion team has leapt at the chance to innovate and raise the bar to an all-new high," said exec producer, Pete Hawley. "There are going to be some big surprises and a lot of new features but the core of the game is still pure Burnout. Instant accessibility will be reinforced by innovative online capabilities which will see Burnout Paradise smash racing conventions.''
Reinforcing what director of design Alex Ward recently told us about the openness of the game, players will be able to explore the city, discover events, and look for the best opportunities to crash, jump and pull signature takedowns. You're given keys to the city, but you'll have to earn the keys to the cars and earn your Burnout licence, says the blurb.
"To us what next gen means is making a completely different game experience than ever before," Ward told CVG. "In the past our games have been racing games, very linear, the player's been restricted by loops, laps, modes and menus. So we've just looked at all the barriers in the player's way and tried to remove them."

The first concrete details on Ubisoft's new Tom Clancy franchise EndWar have reached the internet via US mag Electronic Gaming Monthly, and we seem to be getting more excited with every morsel of info we hear.
In case you missed the initial announcement EndWar is essentially an RTS mish-mash of Clancy franchises built from the ground up for consoles.
Apparently it's being directed by ex-Creative Assembly man Michael de Plater, who worked on the legendary PC strategy series Total War.
Action plays out on a Risk-like campaign map with three factions, U.S. Joint Strike Force, European Enforcers and Russian Spetsnaz, available for war duties. According to Ubisoft, each campaign will be different, giving the example that if the US is conquered in one campaign you can start the next "to liberate U.S. soil with a massive new 'D-Day' landing on the East coast."
"[The Battle for Middle-earth II] was a test case for exactly what we didn't want to do", says the Endwar boss, in reference to re-mappping controls for a console RTS. In answer to this Ubisoft has gone for a tighter, up-close camera along with your bog-standard battlefield map.
Everything in the game is destructible and there's a limit of 12 squads in battle at one time, which you can personalise with your own special abilities, motto and heraldry.
Apparently, there's also some impressive feats in how the AI works in the game. According to the EGM article, squads of heavily armed soldiers, when ordered to a cluster of firebombed cars, will automatically take cover in different ways, taking potshots through windows and over hoods. If a soldier gets shot, one of his squad mates will even drag him back to safety.
The question is, will Ubisoft be able to conquer the dodgy joypad RTS controls we've seen up until now? Lets hope it manages to iron them out before EndWar hits 360 and PS3 early next year.

An early 22 page script for the Gears of War movie has leaked on to the internet, giving us our first glimpse at the New Line produced game-to-movie adaptation.
The leak comes via infamous movie site Latino Review and it goes without saying that if you're a bit spoiler-squeamish you should probably click away now.
The early draft of the Gears flick kicks off with a violent and chaotic battle; the Aspho Fields scuffle referenced often in the 360 shooter. Both Marcus and Dom star in this version of the script and we're also given a glimpse of the pair's backstory, including an appearance from Dom's missus Maria.
The film's planned for release in Summer 2009, with Stuart Beatie signed up for writing duties and a pair of blokes called Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey apparently producing via their Temple Hill banner.
Though it hasn't been announced yet we expect Gears of War 2 to emerge sometime around the movie's release - that's if it doesn't go the way of Halo and end up in the great game-to-movie garbage bin.

Assassin's Creed is going to make you feel harder than Vinnie Jones in a suit of armour when it comes out on PS3 and 360 later this year.
Just take a look at these new screens. Altair, the lead character, just shoves one guy out his way as he heads through a crowd of people with his eyes poised on his target. He swoops in for the kill, smacking one dude in the chops and plunging a knife into the body of another. Well hard.

Most Halo fans will be wetting their pants in anticipation of the May 16 Beta, especially as Bungie has confirmed split-screen multiplayer and the ability to save your films and watch them back.
Bungie's latest weekly update has revealed that the split-screen mode will not divide the screen in the usual way if you're playing on a HD TV. "Instead of stretching the horizontal or vertical axes into big, scary too wide or too tall horrors, we've sensibly windowed the action, maintaining lots of screen real estate, but preserving a proper, playable aspect ratio.
The update confirmed that the split-screen multiplayer will be limited to two people in the beta version, seemingly suggesting the full game will support four players.
Bungie also revealed that players will also get to try out a new "Saved Films" feature in the beta, although it admits the feature "is very, very, very limited" in the early demo. "We just want you to play around with the general concept," says Bungie.
The huge update also goes on to talk about the progress on some of the game's new maps, and quashes some rumors that have cropped up of late from the ever-speculation black hole of the internet.
Get your reading glasses on and go check it out.

Several reports are coming in that the newly-released Xbox 360 Elite, which houses redesigned hardware within its slick new black casing, is still prone to break down.
The current Xbox 360 has earned itself a reputation for being unreliable, with higher-than-average numbers of consoles ceasing to function for no apparent reason. This editor is on his third 360 already.
It was hoped that the new 360 Elite would do away with these faults, but a number of disappointed early-purchasers have already been struck by the three red lights of death, while others have experienced consoles resetting themselves or making loud grinding noises while failing to read game disks.
Some even filmed short videos of their 360 Elite woes and posted them on the internet for all to cringe at.
All consoles have problems, but are these early signs that the Xbox 360's poor reliability record is set to continue with the Elite?

This has got to be the coolest case ever! Zoozen has given the Xbox360 a new look by creating a whole new case design. I would love to see this go into production.
Zoozen is delighted to give the public a first look at one of many innovative projects that our development staff are working on - Ovo 360. The Ovo 360 for Xbox 360 is the first case in the world which has the power to transform the complete look of Microsoft's next-generation machine. Sporting a sleek, white and sophisiticated shell, the Ovo 360 fuses the awesome power of the Xbox with an elegant and breathtaking modern day design to match.
Please Note: Final production of the Ovo 360 may not go ahead. There is still much in terms of development to be done.

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 have found two more territories to duke it out in as each console launches in regions where the other has already been stocking store shelves.
In India, the PlayStation 3 launches today for 39,990 INR (US $981). The Xbox 360 launched in India September 26 with a 23,990 INR (US $515) price tag for the premium system, although the Times of India states the current price for the 360 in India is 27,990 INR (US $686). Nintendo has not yet officially launched the Wii in India.
SCEE sales and marketing director Tim Stokes told TOI he expects the Indian gaming market to grow a massive 850% in three years, from $50 million currently to $425 million in 2010. Sony initially shipped 1,200 units. According to the article, only one model -- the 60 GB SKU -- will be available.
In the United Arab Emirates, the Xbox 360 is launching for 1,799 UAE dirhams (US $490). The PlayStation 3 launched in the region March 23 with PAL territories for 2,499 UAE dirhams (US $680). Games for the Xbox 360, according to Gulf News, will cost between 139 and 279 dirhams (US $37 and $76, respectively).

Hey, if white and, um, black isn't your thing for game consoles, ColorWare's ready to step up to the plate and turn your system into something a little more unique. Able to switch up the aesthetics on your controller, system, or both, users can now hit up 30 different shades for all three now-gen systems with prices starting at $100 per job. (Not a bad idea if you're not up to plunking down for, say, an Elite.) ColorWare also hinted at new Zune, BlackBerry, and even iPhone colors in the pipeline for this summer, but right now we're just happy to spend an afternoon re-envisioning our console collection in crazy pastel hues.

Microsoft has announced its earnings for its Q3 fiscal year and the Entertainment and Devices division has again failed to make a profit, seeing a $315 million operating loss.
E&DD contains not only Xbox but the Zune music player, Games for Windows and Microsoft's new IPTV offerings, among others. However, MS says that Xbox sales "generates the majority of hardware revenue" for the division.
The £315 loss doesn't look so bad when you compare it to last year, where the division showed a $402 million loss. It should also be noted that Microsoft overall saw revenue of $14.4 billion, which is quite good.
Microsoft says it's now shipped 11 million Xbox 360s worldwide and 500,000 of those went out during the first three months of this year. That's down from last year where the company managed to send out 1.7 million consoles - though it was trying to replenish stock after that infamous hardware drought.
In summary Xbox is losing less money, Microsoft is making lots and there's less than a month until the Halo 3 beta (!).

Microsoft has released instructions on how to migrate you hard drive data to the boosted 120GB Elite HDD, which goes on sale in the US this weekend.
Those upgrading to the new 120GB HDD need simply attach the bundled migration kit cable to the old drive and follow the on-screen instructions. If you're going all out and moving to the Xbox 360 Elite console though, you'll need to go through a different process demonstrated in Major Nelson's video.
The transfer process can take up to an hour depending on the amount of data you're packing.
Essentially you'll need to hike over to Xbox.com and order one of those new-fangled migration kits, which Microsoft says will be free of charge.
Migration apparently wipes any data stored on the larger 'Elite' hard disk and users moving data will also have to connect to Xbox Live to play already-purchased Arcade games in the future.
The Xbox 360 Elite, which comes with this boosted hard drive, sexy black accessories and a HDMI port, still doesn't have a European date.

Silicon Knight's ever-loud director Denis Dyack has talked-up a number of things the developer has planned for its long, long awaited action-RPG Too Human.
Speaking on his blog Dyack says that the final game will sport re-done character models, improved animations, a solid 30fps frame rate, a tinkered game camera and 18 weapon models.
This is all in answer to last year's playable E3 demo which was critically-panned across the media universe. On recent demonstrations of Too Human, Dyack says: "the feedback on the forums was great, but we want to hear more!"

The stupidly nostalgic (for us PSO nutters anyway) Phantasy Star Universe is set to expand with a new Ambition of Illuminus expansion pack.
Arriving in the form of downloadable content on Xbox 360 and a retail release for PC and PS2 users, the expansion introduces new single-player and online content such as new roulette and slot mini-games in the lobbies and a slew of new weapons and armour for your inventory.
Offline there's new missions and characters to enjoy and you'll also be able to play through the campaign with your own custom character, rather than that spiky-haired git Sega lumbered you with in the original.
Excitingly for fans, there's also the promise of new character classes, enemies and harder bosses.
