RPG nuts anticipating Mistwalker's next 360 stat-counter (after Blue Dragon, that is) will be pleased to hear that a fresh look at Lost Odyssey is only a month away.
Play! A Video Game Symphony will feature music and brand new visuals from both Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, as well as the usual list of classics from Mario Bros, Halo, Metal Gear etc. all.
The last we saw of the Unreal Engine 3-powered beauty was at GDC last month, where we got to see some unfinished cut-scene footage which showed off the game's gorgeous character models.
The event takes place in San Jose on Saturday, May 26 at 8:00pm and local residents can pick up their tickets now.

And even more Halo news! Marvel.com has updated their comics listings with details on the new ongoing Halo comic book, Halo: Uprising, written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Alex Maleev. Included on the page is possible cover art (seen right, hit up the link for a larger version), as well as a brief summary of the plot of the book.
Picking up from the conclusion of blockbuster video game Halo 2, the must-read issue reveals how the Master Chief, while onboard a hostile ship headed towards Earth, is battling against Covenant forces! Intertwined with Master Chief's interstellar one-man-war is the saga of a great American city's rebellion and downfall, two disparate lives' collision and shared fate, and the Covenant's hunt for an ancient relic of untold power and value. With hope dwindling and the fate of humanity hanging by a thread, is there any chance for a future?
While it might sound generic, this is Brian Michael Bendis, the guy Marvel uses when they want to make something interesting. He is the man.
The first issue will retail for $3.99 and will hit store shelves on July 18th.

In two weeks, Microsoft will release the Xbox 360 Elite, the deluxe version of its latest console. Though equipped with a 120GB hard drive and a sleek black finish, the Elite's lack of game-data transfer options from current 360s and $479 price sparked controversy from when it was announced. Console-war partisans were quick to point out that the Elite is just $20 cheaper than the 20GB PlayStation 3 was--until that model discontinued, anyway.
Now, though, it appears that current Xbox 360 owners will have an alternative to hocking their old consoles on eBay. GameStop reps confirmed today that the nationwide game retailer and its EB Games subsidiary will be holding a promotion that will increase the trade-in value of Xbox 360s. The promotion will begin when the Elite goes on sale on April 29, and will continue "while supplies last."
However, it's still unclear how much GameStop will be increasing the trade-in value of Xboxes for Elite purchases. Several managers contacted by GameSpot confirmed a promotion would be unveiled next week, but said that they didn't know its exact terms. "It hasn't been announced yet," said one friendly but uninformed rep.
However, several online game-press outlets, most notably Xbox360fanboy.com, claim to have confirmed that GameStop will offer $250 in in-store credit for a Premium 360 with wireless controller and hard drive, $200 in-store credit for a Core 360, and $50 for an original Xbox. Currently, the retailer offers $215 in credit for a fully equipped Premium 360, $190 for a Core 360, and $30 for an original Xbox.
There is also some confusion as to whether or not the value of Xbox and 360 trade-ins must be applied to the purchase of an Elite. Though some online sites reported that said credit could be used to buy anything in the store, every GameStop that GameSpot contacted said that the 360 trade-in credit was increased only when used to purchase the new console.
Inquiries sent to GameStop corporate representatives regarding the 360 trade-in promotion had not been answered as of press time.

April 17th, 2007, 23:14 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft has finally responded to accusations that Xbox 360s produced late last year were faulty, missing a part of the drive that was causing them to scratch discs.
The response came after Dutch television show Kassa ran its own independent investigation, concluding that the console was indeed to blame.
"Due to the fact that we did not participate in the experiment done by Kassa and have little insight into the methodology that was used, we cannot comment specifically on the outcome," Microsoft told Engadget. "While we are aware that discs can potentially be scratched through normal wear and tear, we have not received any widespread reports of the issue highlighted here."
"We encourage any Xbox customer who believes that their discs have been scratched in the same manner as identified by KASSA, to contact us at www.xbox.com/supportor 1-800-4-MY-XBOX for additional information."
So, if you find yourself with a ring carved into your favourite game, Microsoft has agreed that it will take a look at your Xbox 360 and repair it if necessary. You'll also be provided with any information you need on how to get a replacement game disc.
Microsoft recently announced it was revamping its warranty cover on the console, significantly extending the period of cover. It also plans to tart up its customer service quality, attempting to improve the overall experience if things happen to go wrong.

Shivering Isles could be the first and last full expansion Bethesda releases for Oblivion. The developer has said that Shivering Isles is "the only expansion we have planned".
Speaking to Next-Gen.biz, Bethesda executive producer has explained that now Shivering Isles is out the door, full focus has switched to Fallout 3.
"We have pretty much everybody on Fallout 3 right now", Howard said. "It started off kind of small and then we add people to it and now the expansion's done, all those people have come on to Fallout 3".
"That's the thing we want to focus on right now, so I think I'd be surprised if we do another expansion", he added.
When asked about the possibility to Bethesda farming out development of future Oblivion expansions to other studios, Howard answered that the studio is "really getting into the stuff we're doing with Elder Scrolls and Fallout and I guess we're shy about having someone else start making content."

Bungie has released the promised two new multiplayer maps for Halo 2's still stupidly-popular multiplayer mode, though it'll cost you a couple of quid to get your hands on them.
$4 (£1.9) is the asking price for the pair, which are both remakes of classic Halo 1 arenas Hang 'em High and Derelict.
How do you get your hands on them? Bungie explains: "It's an original Xbox download, so there's no way to use MS points - and you WILL need an Xbox Live Gold account to download and play, since the original Xbox (even in BC mode) can't tell the difference between gold and silver."
"But you CAN use these on 360, just so we're clear. You just need to use a credit card for the purchase, instead of marketplace points."

Later this month WWE stars Shelton Benjamin and Johnny Nitro are stepping into the ring to challenge Xbox 360 fans on Live.
It's the latest event in Microsoft's Game with Fame calendar and is happening on April 23 between 1pm and 3pm (GMT). The two will be playing WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 versus gamers in a connected gaming session before they head off to an actual RAW event at Earls Court arena, London, later in the day.
In order to get the chance to bash Benjamin and Nitro around the ring, you need to email your name, age, nationality and Gamertag to wwewrestlers@gamewithfame.net. Microsoft says that if you're selected to play you will receive all the information you need to take part nearer the time of the event.

Publisher Sierra has reiterated that its XBLA board game Carcassonne is still on the way and will arrive on the 360 download service sometime this summer.
It's also offered new details on the game, which in case you're not quite nerdy enough to know is based on the board game of the same name which has you claiming towns and farms with your medieval pieces.
According to Sierra the Live Arcade version will sport adaptable AI, a four-player multiplayer mode and support for up to five players over Xbox Live.
Apparently 72 tiles, all rule-sets and the Rivers I expansion tile-set will also be included, which, we'll be frank, means bugger all to us.

If you're a bizarre anime-type like cartoon-crazy Mike J in the corner of the office, you'll be delighted to hear that San Francisco-based manga op Viz Media has acquired the rights to bring the Blue Dragon anime to North America and Europe.
The license includes television, home video and non-videogame rights to the series that's just begun airing in The Land of The Rising Sun, and follows the story of young Shu who protects his land with the aid of his big navy mate.
The game, in case you've been living outside of CVG's radar, is headed by Final Fantasy man Hironobu Sakaguchi, scribed by Dragon Ball Z artist Akira Toriyama with music by Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu. Basically it's an RPG fan's wet dream.
At this early stage there's no word on when the anime series will reach our shores,

It's crystal clear that Microsoft's
Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii leave Sony's PS3 in a trail of smoke and dust more and more with every day that passes. But who's winning when there are only two consoles to be mentioned: the Wii, or the 360? I found this article today on Gamespot saying that Microsoft might have just mugged their own sales figures. How? By stuffing the retail channel.
Here's how it goes. A company like Microsoft has a fiscal year to end. As the end of that fiscal year approaches, the company realizes that only 9 million units of their product have been shipped (sold units are something to bother their heads with later) out of the 10 million target. The company then “stuffs retailers” with the extra 1 million units and they can happily say they've ended their fiscal year. But all this is like a boomerang and if this is indeed Microsoft's case, it will come back and hit them in the face.
“Strong companies confident in their strategy and performance don't do these things," the Ehrenberg blog says. “They don't have to. What kind of a message does this type of behavior send to the investor community and, more importantly, your customers? Weakness. Fear. Short-term thinking. Nothing that represents a positive signal for a better, brighter tomorrow.” Roger Ehrenberg, president and COO of investment analyst service Monitor110 financial blog, got his information from the Apple-focused Blackfriars' Marketing. They imply that “Microsoft threatened to withhold copies of its Vista operating system--released in January--from retailers who didn't play along and choke down excess Xbox 360 inventory.”
So what do you think? Is Microsoft capable of pulling a stunt like this? If they are, we're surely in for some good news later on as these kinds of actions have severe repercussions.
If this is true, what does it mean for the whole 'Console War' and more importantly what does it mean for the consumer? I would like to believe this kind of behavior is unthinkable, however, Microsoft has done exactly this in the past, when trying to get Internet Explorer more popular when Netscape was by far a better browser.
What do you all think?

Microsoft's oft-rumored plans for a portable Xbox may have just been spoiled. The latest peripheral from the same folks that brought the world the Onimusha sword controller and the Final Fantasy X-2 gun controller promises to deliver true Xbox 360 gaming on-the-go. Assuming you've got a bag big enough to house an Xbox 360.
Hori finalized today release plans for the Compact TFT Monitor EX, an LCD monitor that can be attached to your Xbox 360 with minimal effort. The 36,750 yen 12.1 inch monitor outputs 720p and gets its signal from the 360 via analogue RGB. Sound is output via stereo speakers below the monitor, or you can plug in headphones.
The only thing keeping this from turning your 360 into a true portable unit is the power. You'll have to find a place to plug in the power adapters for the 360 and the monitor. Yes, as should be expected of an LCD monitor, this unit has its very own AC adapter.
Japanese release is set for July. If you manage to get one of these, we'd suggest a backpack with sturdy straps.

The Unofficial Apple Weblog has the best guide we've seen to making sure your Apple product and your Microsoft product not only play nice, but pretty much kick ass together as well.
We knew about some of the simple things like sharing your Mac's internet connection with your Xbox 360, and having it play nice with your iPod, but there's a slew of other things we were clueless about, like the shareware program that lets you use your Xbox 360 controller on your Mac. That'll come in handy while we try and master that Battlestar Galactica game.
Check out the full guide and spread the love.

Over the past few days there has been a few rumors hitting the web about potential Xbox 360 trade-in prices increasing over at EB Games and Gamestop for the launch of the Elite. Well, we got in touch with a few Gamestop managers and it's true. The promotion started today and dramatically increases the trade-in value for original Xboxes, Xbox 360 Cores, and Xbox 360 Premiums.
If you trade in a Premium 360 they'll give you $250 in-store credit, $200 in-store credit for a 360 Core, and $50 for an original Xbox. These trade-in price have increased pretty dramatically, because last week Gamestop was only paying $190 for an Xbox 360 Premium, now upped by $60. Both Gamestop managers also said that the new trade-in credit does not have to go towards an Xbox 360 Elite, but what other reason would you have for selling your 360? There you have it all wrapped up and confirmed. More trade-in cash for your old Xbox 360 to buy yourself a black Elite if you so choose.

Activision and Red Octane rolled out an update for the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II this weekend, and already a mass of unfortunate downloaders are reporting 'bricked' Xbox 360s caused by the update.
The patch was released to address a whammy bar response issue, but if the mass of internet postings are to be believed many people are experiencing game freezes or even the infamous 'red circle of death' leaving them with a botched 360.
Of course nobody has provided anything in the way of actual proof yet, but considering the outpour of reports it's likely that the whammy bar update is causing problems for some users.
As usual once they're in the office we'll get on the blower and let you know what Activision have to say on the matter, but for now - download with caution.

Just when we were getting used to having a new release every week, Microsoft has gone and prepped two titles for release on Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday.
Update:Microsoft has now confirmed that 3D Ultra MiniGolf Adventures will be released on Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday. There is now word on Gyruss, however.
According to internet reports 3D Ultra Minigolf and Gyruss are the two downloadable games arriving this week, for 800 and 400 Microsoft points respectively.
Of course it's no surprise that Microsoft is attempting to get more games onto the download service; casual games boss Bryan Trussel told CVG last month that the company was trying to "trying to bump up the pipeline quite a bit".
In case you're none the wiser 3D Ultra Minigolf is based on the only from of golf we're any good at, with themes based on Carnival, Wild West and Outer Space. There's also a customizable course editor so it should be good fun.
Gyruss meanwhile is yet another Konami shoot-em-up that's "a bit like Space Invaders" and "a bit like Galaga". At least you've got an original title as well this week if Retro isn't quite your thing.

In yesterday's post by Bungie staffer Frankie, what we already knew about Halo 3's mysterious X-button functionality was confirmed: It will be used to deploy equipment like the trip mines and bubble shields we saw in the recent Vidoc, and as of now is, appropriately enough, called Equipment. There's also some hinting about a third item that's yet to be revealed; we're hoping for nunchaku.
Frankie also dismisses worries of the bubble shield unbalancing gameplay as he emphasizes how rare equipment will be on the battlefield. So you can put your dreams of building a bubble shield fort back in your fan fiction where it belongs. There's also a heaping portion of the requisite undermining of all the video you've seen so far and reminders of how much better everything is in the game's current build, which will hopefully hold true when we see for ourselves in May.

With 13 years of competitive play under its belt and counting, Super Street Fighter II Turbo is widely considered to be 2-D fighting perfected. A high octane, extremely offense-minded fighter, how is it that Capcom plans to improve upon perfection? By bringing in the comic masterminds at UDON to redraw the entire game, pixel-for-pixel.
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (wow again) for Xbox Live Arcade and PSN mirrors the same tactic Capcom utilized with their Hyper Fighting release - the goods you remember, only with online play. This time, however, Capcom is taking care of business in-house and utilizing the insight that 13 years of worldwide, top-tier competition has brought to the game.
While SSF2T HD is a pixel-for-pixel recreation of the game, they aren't ruling out making slight changes to the game. It will be lost on the average player, but when the faithful get a load of the slight but sexy frame tweaks, they'll freak out. And they will love it.
Capcom didn't have anything to show on the project, but they did say that the entirety of the game is being redrawn, from the character select, all the way through to backgrounds and endings. While it would be heaven in a download if they could also work in the original SSF2T, it is something they are currently considering. Capcom is aiming for a release this Fall.
