Bethesda has confirmed there is a patch in the works to fix a devastating game-ending bug in the Xbox 360 version of Shivering Isles.
The bug - if you're unlucky enough to get it - appears late in the game and causes items to disappear, rendering the game save useless and leaving you little choice but to start over from the very beginning.
The patch has been available to PC users since April 12 but it's taking a little longer to configure for Microsoft's box.
"There's a chance the patch will not make its purported Monday deadline," said production director Ashley Cheng in a forums post, "but the good news still is that there is a patch and it is complete and coming very soon."
We'll let you know when it arrives

April 27th, 2007, 17:09 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft has announced a reduction in losses for its entertainment and devices division, but also a fall in revenues - which the company is attributing to lower Xbox 360 sales.
During the three months ending March 31 the E&D division made an operating loss of USD 315 million (EUR 232 million), compared to USD 402 million for the same quarter last year. Microsoft said the loss was due to costs related to the launch of media player Zune and expenses incurred by extending the warranty for Xbox 360.
Revenues were down from USD 1.2 billion to USD 929 million (EUR 683 million) - a drop of 21 per cent. According to Microsoft, the fall was due to "decreased Xbox 360 sales".
The company shipped 500,000 consoles during the period versus 1.7 million in Q3 2006, which was the first full quarter the console was on the market. The total number of Xbox 360s now shipped stands at around 11 million.
Sales of Xbox and PC software were also lower, down by 44 per cent to reach USD 393 million (EUR 289 million).
However, the picture is brighter when looking at the first nine months of the financial year for the E&D division. Overall, Xbox 360 console, peripheral and software sales were up, as were sales of Zune - resulting in a 42 per cent year-on-year increase in revenues to USD 4.9 billion (EUR 3.6 billion)
During the same period operating losses fell by 20 per cent to reach USD 693 million (EUR 510 million). Microsoft said this was due to the rise in 360 sales along with improved margins for the console.
The company expects a rise in revenue during the coming financial year, thanks to an increase in sales of Zune and wide availability of Xbox 360 leading to higher console sales.
Overall, Microsoft Corporation posted Q3 revenues of USD 14.4 billion (EUR 10.6 billion) - a year-on-year increase of 32 per cent. Net income stood at USD 4.93 billion (EUR 3.62 billion), while operating income was at USD 6.59 billion (EUR 4.84 billion). The company attributed the results to the releases of Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007.

Microsoft's chief financial officer, Chris Liddell, has confirmed that the company expects platform exclusive Halo 3 to boost Xbox 360 sales when the game hits the shops later this year.
Speaking in a conference call following the publication of Microsoft's Q3 financial results, Liddell said, "Halo 3 is clearly going to have a positive impact in two senses. One, it gives us more confidence in the number of consoles we think we're going to be able to sell next year.
"In terms of the direct impact, obviously it's a first-party product so it's reasonably profitable from our point of view, and it will be several hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue next year."
As confirmed last month, Halo 3 is due to launch in the autumn. A key product in Microsoft's 2007 software line-up, it's highly likely to boost Xbox 360 sales - which decreased during Q3 and caused a drop in revenues for the company's entertainment and devices division.
"Sales during the quarter in terms of sell-in were around 500,000 consoles. Sell-through was higher than that, so our inventory levels did come down to normal levels," Liddell said.
"We did see a good inventory movement during the course of the quarter."
When asked if there were any competitive changes during the quarter with regard to Sony and Nintendo, Liddell replied, "No, nothing of significance. We're obviously very happy from a competitive point of view with the response in the marketplace, but nothing of significance."

Mirror, mirror on the wall, which black high def console is the 1337est of them all? We know some people were bummed that the Xbox 360 didn't get to compete in the 2006 Engadget Awards with the PS3 and Wii (hey, it was launched in 2005!), but now's your chance to square off the two most expensive game consoles around. So who's gonna take it, Sony's piano black PlayStation 3, or Microsoft's matte black Xbox 360 Elite?

Videos showing the locations of COG tags in Gears of War have been released on Xbox Live Marketplace, but you have to pay for them.
There are individual videos for Acts 1 through to 5 and, ranging from between 51MB and 150MB in file size, cost 100 Microsoft Points each. Or 85 pence. Or £4.25 for all five.
Unsurprisingly, the charge for the videos has got people's backs up as information on the location of COG tags is available on the internet for free.
Collecting COG tags in the game gets you achievements and gamescore points.

The Global Defense Initiative, a high-tech alliance of the world’s most advanced nations, is fighting to contain Tiberium, but Kane, the megalomaniacal leader of the Brotherhood of Nod has other plans for Earth. Kane’s secret society turned superpower is bent on using Tiberium to take control and transform humanity into his twisted vision of the future. In the midst of battles throughout the world, a third alien race emerges, and all-out war rages over Tiberium. The fate of the planet rests in the balance.
“We’re excited to expand the Command & Conquer franchise to a new form of media and offer a depth to the underlying fiction of the game series like never before,” said Patrick O’Brien, VP of Business Affairs at EA. “Keith DeCandido wrote a great story, and we’re pleased to have partnered with him and Del Rey.”
Del Rey editor Keith Clayton said, “Command & Conquer remains one of the most popular and well-reviewed gaming franchises, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to work on an original story set in EA’s Tiberium Universe.”

Not that this would be the first time an exec was caught lying through his teeth about future products, but for the time being Ballmer is sticking to the idea their won't be a Zune phone coming from Microsoft.
Interestingly enough, he does say that they could toss Zune (And Xbox) functionality into Windows Mobile. Sneaky, Sneaky. I guess they'll just let the phone manufacturers assume the risk, while reaping the rewards.

Yesterday, our Tom Clancy viral website mystery was solved with the announcement of EndWar. Though, information about the game is still lacking, but that's where the original viral website Rev64 comes to the rescue with some new content. Head on over to the Rev64 website and use passcode "s9p1z6" to get in. Once in, you'll hear the plot and backstory that EndWar is based on, including some Russian revitalization talk. Our tipster Mike also mentioned two videos were viewable once in, but after the backstory is complete we get nothing. We're thinking we probably have to register to see the media. The two videos are supposedly a F-22 dropping happy bombs on a few unlucky souls and some shaky cam soldier footage. Can anyone confirm the two videos once in the Rev64 website?

Xboxic got their hands on a Polish magazine with new Project Gotham Racing 4 pics and details. Some of the new features that the busy bees over at Bizarre Creations are implementing include vehicle models using 70 to 100 thousand polygons, improved spectators on the track, 200+ courses, and better physics in online matches to avoid turning the game into Burnout. Other cool tidbits include that the AI you race against have character, with their own styles and personality, a revamped career mode, as well as you create your driver, specifying nationality etc. For the complete list, check here. So, is PGR4 shaping up alright in light of the new info?

Matt Webster, aka fall over at the Shadowrun Forums, has announced that since the beta is ending on the 30th (We know, it sucks), the devs at FASA Studio will be having an IRC chat that Monday, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM PDT. There are going to be prizes available, so if the fact it's Shadowrun didn't sway you, free swag should definitely do the trick. It will take place in the #Shadowrun.FASA chat channel, on the Gamesurge server. Will you join in on the fun on IRC, or the beta itself on its last day?

We're building an Xbox 360 laptop -- exciting, right? In part 1 of this series we covered removing ports from the Xbox 360, and rewiring both the DVD and hard drive. Now today in part 2 we'll get to the meat and potatoes of the case design, heat sink modification, the start of the case construction and the hacking of the LCD monitor and power supplies. BioWare has formed a new online team to create a Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic massively multiplayer online game, EGM reports.
No further details were reported in the rumour section of the US magazine but we've taped our fingers crossed. KOTOR is one of our favourite Star Wars games ever and the thoughts of an online MMO is, frankly, too much to take in.
The magazine also reports on a few other BioWare-related rumours. The current PC-exclusive Dragon Age is coming to PS3 and the DS currently in development at the mega-studio looks to be from the Baldur's Gate franchise. They're all rumours at the moment but we'll keep you updated with any announcements.

After a cold and quiet few months everyone's favourite French publisher Ubisoft has decided to break the silence on its Prince of Persia-meets-Hitman adventure Assassins' Creed.
The chatter comes in the latest issue of Xbox World 360 magazine which you can find on the shelves today.
"I think it's safe to say that the Crusades are an area we've wanted to explore for a long time, but we've been waiting for technology to reach a point where we can do it justice," script writer Cory May says.
"We contacted a historian early in the conception phase of development to help us build a foundation of research. We have used the web, documentaries, old medieval encyclopaedias, paintings and novels. The historian helped us with some harder to find information such as original city plans of Jerusalem, Damascus and Acre that date back to the 3rd crusade."

Microsoft is hoping that Games for Windows - Live will have a positive knock-on effect for Xbox 360 in the Japanese market.
Reported by The Washington Post, the company is additionally hoping to boost the PC games market in the country.
"I believe the PC gaming market in Japan has been under-developed. We hope to revitalise that market in Japan, and that will in turn create momentum for Xbox 360", Takashi Sensui, general manager, Xbox division at Microsoft Japan, explained.
Games for Windows - Live launches in Japan on May 25 (May 8 in the US, May 18 in Europe). One of its key features is the introduction of cross-platform gaming between Xbox 360 and PC, but with this feature only available through paid-for subscription Microsoft is going have an uphill struggle persuading PC gamers of its worth.
Shadowrun is the first game out the door to support cross-platform and releases in June, with UNO following later in the year. But when are we going to see the real killer app that makes cross-platform irresistible?

Microsoft has beefed up its XNA Game Studio Express development platform with the release of 1.0 Refresh, which "contains improved functionality along with new features".
Elaborating on what's new, the company's said 1.0 Refresh introduces the likes of Bitmap Based Fonts, 3D Audio, Windows Vista support and Game Packaging.
XNA Game Studio Express is Microsoft's dev platform that allows budding games developers to create their own videogames for Windows and Xbox 360. We've not fiddled with it ourselves, but if you've tinkered let us know what you've come up with.

Mistwalker boss Hironobu Sakaguchi has told a Korean press conference that his studio is in talks with Microsoft regarding a Blue Dragon sequel for 360.
Towards the end of March Sakaguchi told CVG Blue Dragon "sold through more than 200,000 units in Japan and again it will continue to build momentum as we get into things like BD2 and BD3. And that's what we're hoping; to really build on the franchise. Maybe it'll take ten years (laughs)."
Sakaguchi has now expressed his interest in the sequel featuring online play. He told Japan's Gpara.com, "We're in talks with Microsoft about development of a sequel. Specifics aren't finalized, but there's a possibility that it will be produced as an online title."
Sakaguchi told us at GDC that he would "talk with Shane [Kim] (laughs)" about the sequel.
Looks like Kim and Co. bit his hand off then. Blue Dragon is due for release this summer in Europe.

Over at The Pensive Gamer I've continued my series that is taking a critical look at each of the consoles.
This week I'm looking at the Xbox 360.
Some quotes from the article. On the positive side ...
There are two stats that impress me. First stat, while the 360 had a year head start it is still very impressive to see that at the time of this writing Metacritic is reporting that the 360 has at least as many games rated above 80 as the PS3 and the Wii has games at any rating.
On the negative side ...
The 360 has unfortunately gained the reputation of being the least reliable console. Coupled with pricing issues and you have the two key forces working against the 360's sales and goodwill.
Please enjoy!
