Ah, the sequence of events is nearly complete. First, we get the Xbox 360 axe rockin' on the console itself, and then comes the inevitable hacks to get it rollin' on Windows, and without further adu, we present the ability to melt those plastic frets on OS X. Thanks to an impressive development from TattieBogle (v0.5), a USB driver which purportedly "allows the use of wired Xbox 360 controllers via USB" on your OS X-based machine is finally available. Apparently, it actually works fairly well to boot, so if you've been pouting over your Mac not being able to enjoy the same face melting Guitar Hero II niceties as the other guys, be sure to hit the read link and get your download on.

Ubisoft has revealed the long-speculated latest entry in the Tom Clancy series, EndWar, a strategy game set on the backdrop of World War III.
The game is being lead by Ubisoft's Shanghai studio and Clancy veteran Michael de Plater, and is set to release on next-gen consoles in fiscal year 2007/2008.
According to Ubisoft EndWar was built from the ground up for consoles to "push the standards of technology, showcasing artificial intelligence, graphics, physics and animations that were not possible prior to the launch of the new hardware systems."
According to internet chatter EndWar also bridges the Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon series (perhaps Rainbow Six as well) - though we're starting to feel that they look more and more similar anyway.
"Our development teams are invigorated to be creating the first 100 percent next-generation Tom Clancy brand," said Serge Hascoët, chief creative officer at Ubisoft.
"Our success with Tom Clancy franchises is unparalleled in the next-generation and Tom Clancy's EndWar will be a marvelous addition to the already critically acclaimed library of games. A strategy game like no other, EndWar will allow gamers to lead their own armies against hundreds of others online in real global locations on the massive battlefields of World War III."
The first details and screens are set to arrive in the next issue of US mag EGM next month. We'll let you know what we think when it arrives.

Complicated Microsoft patents that have just emerged on the great ship internet are being linked by speculators to functions of a new Xbox.
But it's not quite clear what this patent is for, though it uses the Xbox as an example of a "gaming device". Apparently, it's some sort of product that can talk to any number of handheld devices from PDAs to mobile phones, though for what purpose remains to be seen.
The patent reads as follows (prep your dictionaries):
"A gaming system including handheld devices and console devices has variable functionality and processing performance as determined by the number of components in the system. Gaming components can be combined wirelessly, by wired connections (e.g., via a docking station), or a combination thereof."
"The processing capabilities and functionality of each gaming component in a combination are augmented by the processing capabilities and functionality of other gaming components in the combination.
"To take advantage of another gaming components processing capabilities and memory capacity, each gaming component is capable of utilizing another gaming component to process gaming applications. Further, each gaming component is capable of rendering audio and/or video information provided by another gaming component."
We haven't a clue what it means, but there's further speculation that this could mean using a Microsoft Zune dock for sound effects while your phone acts as a controller. Sounds a bit rubbish to us.

Forget getting out this summer. Who needs a sun tan anyway - Forza Motorsport 2 is slated for a June release so that puts and end to your beach-going, sun-tanning antics for at least two months.
June 8 is the big day, which puts us around three weeks behind the US where the game will launch in May. That means we'll have some tough competition when we get on Live for some online action.
Colin McRae: Dirt, PGR 4 and Sega Rally are also due this year. What an awesome line-up for race fans.

Undertow is the title of a newly revealed Xbox Live Arcade game in development at Chair Entertainment that's set underwater and features plenty of shoot-'em-up action.
It's raised a few eyebrows due to its two multiplayer modes supporting up to 16 players. This is accompanied by a 15-level single-player campaign that can be played solo or in co-op.
"While many of the maps have level-specific goals, the core gameplay of Undertow centers on this maxim: Kill as many enemies as you can - and stay alive for as long as possible!", Chair Entertainment has explained.
It's added, "Players select their race (Iron Marine, Nemoidian, or Atlantian) and unit type and are then launched into battle. Each of the three races features four unique, upgradeable unit types ranging in ability from the fast and agile to the large and powerful. Players have the ability to unlock and purchase unit upgrades as they acquire points. Each unit type has three levels of permanent upgrades.
"Through conquest-style battles, players obtain points by killing enemies, accomplishing team goals, and taking check points. Points and a variety of power-ups can be used to further upgrade unit abilities."
Chair Entertainment expects to get the game on to Xbox Live Arcade this summer.

Details have been pretty scarce on Bizarre Creations' hotly anticipated racer, PGR 4, but small titbits of info have began too emerge, following the revealing of the new extreme weather mechanics in the new game.
According to a polish magazine (via Xboxic), the events in the main career mode will be set out in a tree-like format, similar to Ridge Racer 6.
Although the driving model will remain mostly the same, drifting has apparently been made a touch easier, while nudging the rear of an opponent's car to make them spin out will be made harder.
Do you like to pull a handbrake turn just as you cross the finish line to slam your car into a wall? In the next game you won't need to because the cars will apparently perform donut spins after the race.
On the techy side of things, the cars are said to be made up of 70-100 thousand polygons, with better environmental textures. The cities from PGR 3 are to return, joined by Shanghai and two "TBA" cities.
Interestingly, the report also says the drivers will have increased detail for "secret" reasons. Might you be walking around out of your car in PGR 4? That would be like the Garage mode, but in third-person, we suppose.
The courses are said to have more spectators, too, while the whole game runs at 30 frames per second at 720p.
Feel the excitement. More on PGR 4 soon.

It seems one naughty tester has filmed and leaked some brand new footage of the Halo 3 multiplayer beta for your viewing pleasure.
They weren't stingy about it either - there's nearly seven minutes of viewing gold in there, and as well as seeing the Zanzibar remake, Last Resort, you will also see some of the new weapons and vehicles in action, unfortunately backed by one of the worst tunes we've ever heard.
You'll bear it though. This is Halo 3. Zoom over to right now to see it before it's removed.

New from the Specialist is the tool to convert Western Digital Hard Drives into ones accepted by your Xbox 360, heres some info:
Attached is the latest version of the hddhackr. It works with the new 120 gb signature. However, this current version can not dump the hddss.bin file automatically from that drive, you'll have to manually dump sectors 16-22 with a tool like winhex and save them as 'hddss.bin'. After that, continue as normal with the hddhackr and everything will be fine.
Also, I'd like to stress that there are 2 versions of the WD BEVS drive out there: the 'RST' and the 'LAT' version. This tool currently ONLY supports the 'LAT' version ! You can find on the sticker of the HDD which version it is. I'll hope to be able to support the RST version of the drive in a future version of this tool

We're a little late on this one, but at least we're honest about the fact and are still reporting on the goods. Over on the official Halo Wars forums Ensemble Studios' own Thunder posted a brief status report on Halo Wars' progress and asked lead designer Graeme Devine a few questions. Although the update and interview don't give us any new media or reveal any big news about Halo Wars, we do learn that Graeme is Irish and likes his Guinness. So, if you're feeling a little adventurous, make the jump for Ensemble Studios' April Halo Wars update.

Hachi machi! Another double dose of XBLA hotness this week! Following up last weeks delirium inducing release of both MiniGolf Adventures and Gyruss, Microsoft will be bringing Eets: Chowdown and Pinball FX this Wednesday for 800 Microsoft Points each.
Klei Entertainment, who is also behind N+ for XBLA, is responsible for Eets: Chowdown which combines the spirit of Lemmings with the chemically unbalanced nature of Princess Peach. Pinball FX, on the other hand, has us slightly less thrilled with three fictional boards to choose from, online play and optional support for the Vision Camera to control the flippers. Yay on the online play and nay on the arm flailing flippers, thanks.
Whether you're excited for these two or not, you have to admit -- two titles a week is a huge improvement over barely hitting two titles a month.

And the hits still keep coming. The next wave of point-eating download content on Xbox Live just might be another set of song packs for Guitar Hero II. Although this is still rumor, the people over at HarmonixFans seem pretty trustworthy since they were the ones to reveal the first set of song packs. So get your ballpoint pen ready to write down the new set list as they are in all their rumored-glory:
Content Pack 1: "Cowboys From Hell" - Pantera "I Love Rock & Roll" - Joan Jett & The Blackhearts "Cochise" - Audioslave
Content Pack 2:
"Godzilla" - Blue Oyster Cult
"I Wanna Be Sedated" - The Ramones
"Sharp Dressed Man" - ZZ Top
Content Pack 3:
"Iron Man" - Black Sabbath
"Take Me Out" - Franz Ferdinand
"Smoke on the Water" - Deep Purple
No confirmation on if or how much these new song packs will cost if they exist, but I say if you've bought all the song packs to date, Xbox should give out free black-colored, headbanging wigs for those buying the next set too.

If there was any doubt in your mind that Microsoft is absolutely soaking us on the $179 pricetag of its new 120GB HDD, all should be laid aside by the fact that you can now brew one up yourself for a mere $80 -- the cost of the drive. The hack is based on that seemingly-useless HDD swap TheSpecialist unveiled a few months ago, but that was back when 20GB was the max size allowed my Microsoft for use with the 360, meaning a 40GB drive was no more useful than a 20 gigger. Now that 120GB is all legit with the console, you can run through pretty much the same hack -- which involves dumping a few sectors off of an original 360 HDD and onto your new drive -- and get your full 120GB to play with. Currently the hack only works with a certain type of Western Digital hard drive, with hopefully more drives to come and a more automated process, but for now it still shouldn't take an incredible amount of know-how to follow TheSpecialist's instructions and get a bit of leg room for you Marketplace downloads on the cheap.

Activision has rolled out the latest screenshots of its Transformers movie tie-in game, and it's still looking a bit rough around the edges.
Producer Callum Godfrey responded to our initial eyes-on reaction to the game when we saw it last month saying, "We're really disappointed you guys didn't get an accurate impression of what Transformers: The Game is all about and the direction in which we're headed. A work in progress system was shown that we finished putting together in the early hours of that morning specifically for a first-look presentation."

BioWare's much-anticipated Xbox 360 RPG Mass Effect has finally been pencilled in for release this September, months after the June/July arrival date previously expected.
The news comes from an official Microsoft event this morning, though no more details have been offered.
The September release puts Mass Effect in head-to-head competition with fellow first-party RPG Blue Dragon, which is also released that month. This might seem silly to you budding industry analysts, but it's probably just as beneficial for Microsoft to avoid the infamous Summer drought.
BioWare's latest picked up one of the first CVG Most Wanted awards this weekend, and rightly so - because we're quite literally counting the days until its arrival (or at least we are now that we have a date to count down to).

Hironobu Sakaguchi's highly anticipated Blue Dragon is continuing its aggressive download content campaign next week, April 27 with the arrival of new a random dungeon generator.
The generator will weigh in at 300 Microsoft points (£2.55 GBP) and won't be the last Blue Dragon downloadable we see either. Sakaguchi told CVG last month: "Japan has a set of three downloadable contents planned for post-launch and that's also what we'll be doing in North America and Europe. We'll be rolling out downloadable content over the course of four to five months post-release."
And if you haven't worked out how the random dungeon generator, Sakaguchi-san offers an explanation: "each time you enter a new dungeon you actually see a different pattern, a different set of characters, enemies and environment."
That should add a bit of variety then. Look out for Blue Dragon in this side of the world in September.

It's Monday - do you know what that means? We can catch up on the now three-day old Bungie community update!
This weekend the Halo developer decided to slip on the iron gauntlet and defend the rather short length of the forthcoming multiplayer beta, which will sit on your Crackdown `ownload menu for only three weeks.
"I've been asked a few times why the impending Beta is only three short weeks long," the update reads. "Well, obviously the number one reason is that the longer we're spending resources taking care of the Beta, the less time we're applying what we've learned from it to the final game."
The Bungie website man continues: "The reasons you're getting three maps is similar, but has as much to do with our normal production schedule as anything else. It's easier to think of why you're not getting the rest of the maps. They're not done yet."
"All are geometry complete, but they're being polished and tuned for graphics and gameplay 'til the last minute," he says, adding that the ones we'll be playing next month are the best balanced and most complete so far.
"But they will change slightly, maybe noticeably when the game finally ships in fall. So by all means, learn 'em well next month, but don't get used to anything you see in there. Objects may have shifted while in flight."
The multiplayer beta with its three playable maps goes live on May 16 - just weeks away, and as Bungie says: "statistically, three weeks is going to seem like a pretty long time when you look at the hours you log on the game." Let's hope so.

There are many people out there excited over the launch of Microsofts fancy new Elite 360. GamePro however, is not one of them. They have put together a little article with their eight reasons why the Elite 360 isn't so elite after all. I agree with some of their gripes about the new system such as not including built in wireless networking and still having to purchase the HD DVD player separately, but some of the other reasons seem a bit ridiculous.
The one that sticks out the most for me is "It's still cheaper than the PS3." With all the complaining everyone has done about the price of the PS3, I don't see how this could possibly seen as a bad thing. I don't know that I'll be running out to get an Elite 360, but somehow, I don't think that the fact that it's cheaper than a PS3 is going to be a huge deterrent.
One of the other objections has to do with the color of the system. Apparently, GamePro prefers things white in their game world, which is all well and good for them. Personally, I like the fact that it's coming out in black since it will match my TV and other media devices better. But then again, I'm a sucker for color coordination. I tried to imagine my various electronic devices all in matching white and it was not pretty. It looked something like the Milk Bar in Clockwork Orange, which sounds cool, but I don't think I'm ready to go there. Besides, the whole jock strap on the outside of your clothes look just isn't for me.

For years, rapper Snoop Dogg has made no secret of his love for games. In 2003, he appeared in the popular True Crime: Streets of LA (PC, Xbox, GameCube, PlaySation 2). In 2004, he hosted the SpikeTV Video Game Awards. In 2006, he helped found the Hip-Hop Gaming League, and was supposed to star in Fear & Respect (pictured), a now-canceled Grand Theft Auto-style crime game from Midway.
Now, in 2007, Snoop and games have come together again, with less than spectacular results. The New York Post's Page Six gossip column is reporting that the oft-arrested rapper was recently paid $150,000 to appear at a benefit for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
While said fee paid is a princely sum to most, it apparently was not enough for Snoop, whose real name is Calvin Broadus. According to the Post, in addition to other accommodations for himself and his entourage, the hip-hop artist "insisted on having an Xbox in his dressing room," according to an "insider" contacted by the newspaper.
When an Xbox could not be produced, Snoop refused to take the stage, prompting an event planner to borrow one from their children. Once the Xbox was put in Snoop's dressing room, he began playing it and "smoking dope," apparently enjoying himself so much he didn't take to the UNICEF event stage until an hour after he was originally scheduled.
