The phenomenon that is Minecraft shows no sign of letting up.
It has been confirmed that Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition – a more or less permanent fixture in the UK Top Ten – has now sold over 12m units, elevating it right to the top of the best-ever selling Xbox 360 game pile.
“It is pretty amazing,” Mojang's Daniel Kaplan said on theXbox blog. “I remember when we started talking about sales numbers that we would be super happy to sell one million copies. That would have put us on par with Battlefield 1943 and Castle Crashers, which both are awesome games, so that was something to aim for.
“We never even dreamed of selling 12 million.”
Eurogamer adds that the game’s total sales now stand at over 40m – with 14.7m sales on PC, over 10m across iOS and Android and at least 1m on PS3.
The PS3 version was released late last year. Mojang hopes to announce release dates for the game in development on both PS4 and Xbox One soon.

Bluepoint Games had its work cut out for it when the studio agreed to port the Xbox One's flagship shooter Titanfall to the Xbox 360, but to hear senior producer Daryl Allison tell it, the jump was a success.
"Titanfall on the Xbox 360 is the true experience: all the maps, modes, pilots, titans, weapons, burn cards, you name it, found in the Xbox One and PC versions," Allison recently wrote on the Titanfallwebsite. "The game looks great, sounds great, and above all it plays great. There are of course some technical differences that are due to the technical limitations of the hardware – for example, the game runs above 30fps - but rest assured, the intense 6v6 wall-running, titan dropping action is all there."
Allison then defends the decision to delay the Xbox 360 version of Titanfall by saying that the game was just not ready for release alongside its PC and Xbox One brethren. "We wanted Xbox 360 gamers playing Titanfall at the same time as everyone else, but it needed more time," Allison wrote. "EA and Respawn made the right call and the extra time has paid off. Titanfall on the Xbox 360 is definitely a game that Bluepoint Games is proud of, and we're excited for you to get your hands on it."
The Xbox 360 version of Titanfall is currently slated to be released on April 8.

While Microsoft is enjoying great success with its renewed Xbox One indie focus, the chances of its parity policy being rescinded look slim.
Although there have been examples of flexibility, Microsoft still requires that indie games published on Xbox Live release at the same time or before they launch on rival systems.
It’s a sticky issue and one that Sony’s developer relations boss Adam Boyes has openly mocked. But when asked how he reacted to Sony’s tweet, Xbox corporate VP Phil Harrison told Edge: “I laughed.
“Taking aside competitive positioning and all of that, the winners in all of this are game players. There are more games coming out for these platforms, there are more developers creating for these platforms, there are more fresh minds coming into our industry than any time in recent memory. And that’s so, so important to the future of our industry.”
“It’s difficult to debate these kind of commercial relationships in a media interview so you’ll forgive me for not going into the details. What I would say is that everybody in our program, whether it’s a developer or people on the platform side working with [ID@Xbox boss Chris Charla] is committed to making sure the best games are on Xbox One.
“That’s our job, basically, if you boil it all down to the essence of what a game platform is, it’s to make sure that the biggest, best, most exciting, most creative games are on your platform and we are working super hard to make that happen.”

A number of Xbox One owners who have previously signed up to the console’s preview program in the UK now have access to OneGuide.
The feature allows owners to access a live TV guide directly through Xbox One – that played a big part in Microsoft’s pre-launch marketing for the machine. Included with the update is a SmartGlass universal remote control.
Specific DVR and cable/satellite compatibility has not yet been specified.
Other new features rolling out include the ability to rent a film and then watch it across a number of devices such as Xbox One, Xbox 360, Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and XboxVideo.com.
As well as the UK, OneGuide access is also being rolled out to users in Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Canada.

We called the Xbox One a work in progress in our initial review, and to its credit, Microsoft has been hard at work addressing various software shortcomings (party system, friend notifications, Twitch streaming and so much more) over the last few months. One aspect that's remained mostly the same since launch -- besides some tweaks and a remote control accessory -- is its unique HDMI-passthroughTV experience and that's getting some much-needed attention in a new update preview test. Microsoft may be focused on gaming under Phil Spencer, but a big part of its strategy to win there is by controlling input 1 on your HDTV, and making the Xbox One more useful in other ways than as a Titanfall machine could help. Check after the break for a of the new features plus a few more details on what they can do, and which countries are getting access to more TV listings and voice controls.

Though Xbox One sales may be slightly behind that of the PlayStation 4, it looks like game broadcasting is taking off at a much quicker pace on Microsoft's new console. In the first week of availability, 108K Xbox One owners took to Twitch to broadcast games; the same number was reached on the PlayStation 4 after 25days of availability. This is largely due to Twitch broadcasting launching alongside the PS4, whereas broadcasting didn't function on the Xbox One until early last month -- resultantly, millions of Xbox One consoles were already out in the wild, whereas the PS4 had to be physically purchased and brought home before users discovered the glory of ... mostly safe for work broadcasts. It also didn't hurt that the Xbox One had its first major exclusive game, Titanfall, launching alongside game broadcasting (we even got in on the fun ourselves). Regardless, it looks like game broadcasting is proving more than just a passing fad.

When Microsoft announced earlier today that universal Windows apps could run on the Xbox One, it seemed pretty...self-explanatory. A developer could easily port any Windows or Windows Phone app over to the Xbox for you to use on your TV.Right? Not exactly. Here at Build, we had the chance to sit down with Steven Guggenheimer, corporate vice president in the Developer Platform and Evangelism group, who gave us a little more insight into how this universal app thing is going to work on Xbox.

Many were expecting to see universal Windows apps in the Build 2014 keynote, and they have. However, Microsoft had a surprise in store -- you'll eventually see those universal apps running on the Xbox One, too. Developers will get to write apps for Windows and Windows Phone that translate to a TV screen with relatively little effort. The company hasn't said exactly when you'll see these multi-platform apps pop up on your game console, but we're hoping they appear sooner rather than later.

Telltale Games has finally confirmed release dates for The Wolf Among Us: Episode 3 - A Crooked Mile.
April 8 will see the release of the PC and Mac versions worldwide, and PS3 in North America. On April 9, the Xbox 360 version goes live worldwide, and the PS3 version will arrive in Europe. The iOS version wasn't given an exact date, but it promised for release "next week".
An official Episode 3 launch trailer was released on Tuesday - oddly before any release dates had been confirmed.
In addition, a teaser image released Monday featured a fully transformed Bigby Wolf, suggesting the rougher side of the character will feature prominently in the next chapter.
The first episode of The Wolf Among Us launched in October 2013, while the second arrived in February 2014.
Here's the official Episode 3 blurb:"After discovering damning evidence at a bloody crime scene, Bigby is just steps behind the prime suspect of a horrific murder, but he's not the only one; other forces in Fabletown will stop at nothing to protect their interests. Every decision matters and time is ticking in this thrilling third episode of The Wolf Among Us."

F.E.A.R. developer Monolith's upcoming Lord of the Rings spin-off, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, is set for a 7th October release on PS4 Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, publisher Warner Bros. has announced.Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor follows the exploits of a cursed ranger named Talion, who's mysteriously brought back to life by the "Spirit of Vengeance" to slaughter the Sauron's orc forces that murdered his family - a bit like The Crow in Middle-earth then. The actual gameplay looks similar to Assassin's creed with an emphasis on parkour, light stealth and third-person brawling. There will be choices, though, as you decide whether to murder targets or recruit them to help you in various ways down the line, and there appears to be a Crackdown-esque boss system in play where thinning the numbers of the orc captains turns the tide of battle in your favour when it comes to hunting their lieutenants.Back in January, Assassin's Creed 2's combat designer Charles Randall called out Shadow of Mordor for its similarities to Ubisoft's historical adventure series, but Warner Bros. claimed this "wasn't something we were consciously going for".

Forget Xbox One’s multimedia capabilities – Microsoft’s new message is that games are very much the focus.
In fact, new Xbox boss Phil Spencer has promised that the platform holder will unveil an unprecedented selection of content at E3 this June.
He told Polygon that Xbox will have "the best lineup of content in a long time" at the show, adding: "We're early on in the console generation, and obviously Sony's having a great launch.
"Console gaming is doing incredibly well right now. Six months ago, everybody wondered if console gaming was dead... but this is a long, multi-year generation and my fundamental belief is that great games create the best platforms.
"I see the conversation focusing more on the games: what new IP we are investing in, what's going on in Japan, what are we doing with Halo. It’s my job to make sure the best content shows up there – maybe a mix of things we're bringing back from the past, like Killer Instinct, which was very successful, as well as new IPs, like Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive and other things we haven't announced yet.
"As the conversation with the customers today centres around the content that we have, that's the majority of my focus. And we're talking to developers about the next thing they want to be doing on Xbox."

Sony and Twitch trotted out plenty of numbers since the PS4 launched with the streaming service, so it's not surprising to see Microsoft start talking about 23 million minutes broadcast since last month's launch, or how 30 percent of all Twitch broadcasts came from Xbox One on launch day. However, there is a catty little aside that's worth a bit of scrutiny.
"In its first week, 108,000 unique Twitch users tried their hand at broadcasting from Xbox One," reads Microsoft's blurb, "accounting for 22 percent of Twitch's unique broadcasters in the same period of time. To put that in perspective, according to Twitch, it took another console a month to achieve what the Twitch app on Xbox One did within its first week."
We'd point out how that perhaps doesn't account for the differences in install bases between launch and four months on, but the truth is we have no idea whatsoever what this "another console" is that Microsoft's referring to. Oh, well.
Instead, we'll round up the rest of the stats: 2.7 million minutes of Xbox One Twitchery were broadcast on launch day, and the average Xbox One cast on the streaming service is 28 minutes long. Also, the most broadcast Xbox One game?No surprises there.

Over the course of the next month, Microsoft plans to roll out a series of updates focused on the Xbox One's media playback functionality. Most notably, select Xbox One users will get the chance to test a new suite of Smartglass controls.
Later this week, the first wave of updates will arrive and bring with it universal media playback on Microsoft devices. Now, users will be able to view Xbox media content on any Microsoft device, whether it be an Xbox One, Xbox 360, Windows 8 PC , Windows Phone or even online at Xbox Video. Alongside this, Microsoft will update the Xbox One Smartglass companion application to feature easier navigation options, mobile Xbox Live alerts and Snap functionality.
In an effort to "explore some new ideas," Microsoft will also be debuting new Smartglass media controls. Explicit details are currently unavailable, but these new controls should allow users to control a TV, Xbox One, and set-top DVR directly from a tablet or smartphone. Unlike the rest of the aforementioned media playback update, this Smartglass addition will initially be rolled out to a small group of testers, then released to the general population once Microsoft has fixed any kinks.

Microsoft’s ID@Xbox program has been received well among the indies we spoke to, but launch parity remains a concern.
The ID@Xbox program is being hailed as a success by indies releasing games through the initiative, but Microsoft must revise its launch parity policy if Xbox One is to become as indie-friendly as rival PS4.During GDC Microsoft announced that that it has sent Xbox One devkits to over 250 independent studios, and it also confirmed a roster of 25 self-published games to be released through ID@Xbox in the coming weeks and months. While the indies we spoke to at the GDC launch event were delighted with how much friendlier Microsoft has been in recent months, there were still lingering concerns over launch parity. Many indies have voiced their concerns over the clause, and even Sony has taken a swipe at its rival’s stance on indie self-pubishing – before GDC PlayStation’s VP of publisher and developer relations Adam Boyes tweeted a ‘list’ of platforms developers are not allowed to release their games on before they hit PSN. So, at the ID@Xbox event we asked corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Xbox division Phil Harrison if he’d seen the tweet, and what he thought of it.“I laughed,” he said. “Taking aside competitive positioning and all of that, the winners in all of this are game players. There are more games coming out for these platforms, there are more developers creating for these platforms, there are more fresh minds coming into our industry than any time in recent memory. And that’s so, so important to the future of our industry.”

The Xbox One is being lined up for a release in China, Microsoft has said.
Global Times reports that Microsoft’s global vice president Zhang Yaqin has said that the platform holder “is stepping up efforts to bring in its multi-purpose Xbox game console to the Chinese market as soon as possible”.
When asked when this might occur he simply replied “soon”. It has already established a joint venture with Chinese media content provider BesTV New Media based in the Shanghai free trade zone.
Zhang added that efforts are already underway to secure localised content for the market.
The sale of games consoles was green lit in China in January.
Sony has already expressed its hope that China could provide a significant sales opportunity for PS4.
However, with the Chinese market expected to be highly price sensitive, all three platform holders will have to fend off competition from the likes of Huawei, which has already detailed plans to launch a budget games console called Tron in Q2 that will retail for just 1,000 Yuan (£97).

Buy an Xbox One controller and hack it immediately? That’s exactly what [tEEonE] did so he could merge it with a Simraceway SRW-S1 steering wheel. He loves racing games and was psyched to play Forza 5. He already had the steering wheel, but it’s strictly a PC peripheral. [tEEonE] wanted the wheel to control the steering, gas, and brakes and found both the XB1 controller and the SRW-S1 well-suited to the hack.
For steering, [tEEonE] substituted the SRW-S1′s accelerometer for the XB1′s left joystick pot. He connected the X and Y to analog pins on an Arduino Pro. Then he mapped the rotation angles to voltage levels using a DAC and wired that to the XB1 joystick output. The XB1 controller uses Hall effect sensors and magnets on the triggers to control the gas and brake. He removed these and wired the SRW-S1 paddles to their outputs and the XB1 controller is none the wiser.
He also rigged up a 3-point control system to control the sensitivity and calibrate the angles: a button to toggle through menu items and two touch modules to increment and decrement the value. These he wired up to a feedback interface made by reusing a 15-LED strip from the SRW-S1. Finally, he had space left inside the housing for the XB1′s big rumble motors and was able to attach the small motors to the gas and brake paddles with the help of some 3-D printed attachments. Check out this awesome hack in action after the break.
