Titanfall developer Respawn has made a list of changes to the game's modes and weapons in a new server patch deployed over the weekend.Score limits and damage totals seem to be the major alterations - the Smart Pistol has been nerfed when not locked on, while arc grenades will no longer draw on friendly Pilots or Titans. There's a host of bugfixes too, Respawn revealed. But there are no big additions to game, such as the promised private lobbies or support for the upcoming companion app. You'll have to wait a bit longer for those. The full list of changes lies below.Balancing adjustments and general changesBug Fixes

We hope you're making good progress on Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, because there's already a sequel on the way. Ubisoft has Assassin's Creed: Unity, a follow-up that takes the stealthy game series to Paris during the French Revolution. Clearly, you can expect guillotines to play an important role. You'll get a tiny hint of the experience in the teaser video below. However, it's worth noting that the trailer only shows Unity coming to PCs, the PS4 and the Xbox One -- there's no mention of the Wii U or previous-generation systems. We've reached out to Ubisoft to check on platform support, but there's a good chance that the developer is focusing all its attention on higher-end hardware this time around.

While Titanfall's online service has been pretty stable - barring some launch day hiccups - that doesn't mean that Respawn is done with tweaking the game experience. A server update has been applied to the game that fixes a handful of issues, as well as re-balances some of the gameplay.
For example, Cluster Missiles now do less damage against Evac Dropships, which is good news for anyone who loses more than a handful of games (see:us once, and us again) and needs to hitch a ride out of the game's hectic warzones. You can check out the full list of fixes and tweaks after the break.

Walmart is offering a $50 discount on the new Titanfall Xbox One bundle, bringing it down from $500 to $450. The deal looks to be available both onlineand in stores, and should you prefer you can get your new console minus giant mechs by picking up the standard Xbox One bundle for the same price. Walmart isn't indicating how long the discounted price will be available for.
Microsoft released the Titanfall Xbox One bundle alongside Respawn's multiplayer shooter last week, priced $500 in North America as per the system's launch price. The Xbox One did get a price cut in the UK, though, after Microsoft reduced the suggested tag from £430 to £400, including the Titanfallbundle.

Microsoft’s Xbox One has been the best-selling games console for four weeks in a row, MCV understands.
The machine has benefited from a £30 price cut, while the launch of Titanfall last week caused a surge in console sales of 96 per cent.
But retailers have told MCV that PS4 remains in control, and that Xbox’s recent success has been aided by shortages of Sony’s console.
In fact, a fresh supply of PS4s last weekend caused a 72 per cent rise in sales.
MCV understands that Sony is preparing to release extra stock into the trade for this Friday’s launch of Infamous: Second Son, which is PlayStation’s big hope for the quarter.

DirectX 12 unveiled at GDC, first games expected in 2015
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
MIcrosoft has promised improved graphics performance for Xbox One games after unveiling DirectX 12.
Microsoft detailed the capabilities of DirectX 12 during a panel at the Game Developers Conference. While the API will hit all PC, mobile and console the focus was very much on Xbox One, which has suffered in comparison to Sony's PlayStation 4.
"Xbox One games will see improved performance, and we'll bring the same API to all Microsoft platforms," said development manager for graphics Anuj Gosalia, according to VentureBeat.
Gosalia was joined onstage by Microsoft's partners from the industry, including Forza 5 developer Turn 10 Studios, mobile chipmaker Qualcomm - AMD, Nvidia and Intel will also support DirectX 12 - and Epic Games' Tim Sweeney, who pledged a, "a world-class implementation of DX12 in Unreal Engine 4."
In a post published on the DirectX blog, Microsoft summarised the improvements over DirectX 11.
"First and foremost, it provides a lower level of hardware abstraction than ever before, allowing games to significantly improve multithread scaling and CPU utilization. In addition, games will benefit from reduced GPU overhead via features such as descriptor tables and concise pipeline state objects.
"And that's not all - Direct3D 12 also introduces a set of new rendering pipeline features that will dramatically improve the efficiency of algorithms such as order-independent transparency, collision detection, and geometry culling."
Microsoft claimed that the first DirectX 12 games will be available by the holiday season of 2015, by which time it expects half of all PC games to support it.

Microsoft Studios corporate VP Phil Spencer has assured fans that this year's E3 Xbox press briefing will be heavily focused on new game content.
When asked via Twitter today if Microsoft's presentation will be "as game focused as last year", Spencer replied, "Yes, I think you'll see very few execs."
"We are already over our 90 minute time limit and having to move stuff out of show," added Spencer - a promising sign for those eager to see what the firm has in store for Xbox One in the coming year.
Microsoft use this week's GDC show in San Francisco to unveil its new DirectX 12 software. The next generation version of Microsoft's DirectX API was revealed to an industry audience on Thursday.
Anuj Gosalia, development manager for graphics at Microsoft, claimed that DirectX 12 will work in some form across all Microsoft platforms; A position in line with the corporation's ethos of uniting tablets, computers and games consoles with the same operating systems.

Microsoft exec Phil Harrison has defended the Xbox One's ongoing sales battle with PlayStation 4 as "a marathon, not a sprint" in response to Sony's higher global sales total.
PlayStation 4 sales surpassed 6 million units earlier this month, while the last update we heard from Microsoft was back in January, when its console was pegged at 3.9 million."We're happy with our plan," Harrison toldVentureBeat. "We're happy with the performances of our key franchises and key partnerships, most notably Titanfall in the last couple of weeks."You can see independent surveys and studies showing our sell-through doubling in the UK as far as hardware," he added, referencing the console's recent Titanfall-induced sales spike.Harrison also pointed to the launch of Xbox One in 26 new countries in September - many of which the PlayStation 4 has already launched in.Those who have bought an Xbox One are getting good use out of it, however, Harrison argued. The typical user has their console on for "more than five hours average per day" - presumably including TV watching and streaming services use.

A Forbes reporter heard more about the issue from a source close to development. It all boils down to "playable framerate", apparently. "The early builds that the screenshots came from were playable but only just so," the source said. "The game was not in a state where it could be sold at that point. I strongly suspect that they were focusing heavily on delivering a top-notch experience on PC and underestimated the challenges the new systems would pose on PS3 / Xbox360.""I sincerely don't think they intended to deceive, but in the end they sacrificed a huge amount of graphical fidelity at the very end of development because they couldn't resolve the framerate in any other way."The footage and trailers From Software used, it did with best intentions, unaware of the sacrifice it would later have to make, the source propositioned."The game would have been much worse without the change (as in, many would call it unplayable and broken.)"Theoretically, such issues could be resolved for a PC version, and Bandai Namco told Forbes we'd hear more about that version in April. The forward-looking engine would also shine on PS4 and Xbox One, From Software told IGN earlier this year, although no next-gen versions of the game have been announced.ORIGINAL STORY 19/03 1.30PM: From Software has responded to questions about the difference between the version of Dark Souls 2 shown in the world-exclusive gameplay reveal back in April 2013 and the game that came out last week, suggesting that "resource management" during development is to blame for decisions to strip things back. The reveal footage showed a dramatically lit grey and gold world of rocky medieval splendour, and a castle interior that provided a stark contrast between light sources and shadow. It was an impressive effect. The retail version, by comparison, looks quite different - particularly the lighting, which is much less saturated and extreme. One comparison video below highlights the discrepancies between the Forest of Fallen Giants section of the original reveal and the respective section of the shipping game, which seems less detailed as well as less vibrantly illuminated.

Punishing bad behaviour gets results. But basic psychology suggests that rewarding good behaviour will achieve more.
Microsoft is looking to follow this mantra by rewarding players “contribute positively” via their Xbox Live interactions, Polygon reports, as confirmed by development head Frank Savage yesterday confirmed at a GDC talk.
Although the specifics of how behaviour will be measured or rewarded has not yet been revealed, Savage did say that players whose reputation "soaring because you're this amazing player that everyone wants to be with" will be recognised by Xbox Live's reputation algorithm.
He added that the algorithm itself is still in the "brainstorming" stages.

In previous versions of Project Spark, players were allotted 40 minutes of free Spark Time every day. Spark Time, despite its perky name, was limiting: you could only play user-made levels built with paid content you hadn't purchased or features unlocked above your current level for 40 minutes each day. If you wanted to play more, you could use in-game credits or pay real world cash for tokens to buy more Spark Time. Purchased Spark Time came with bonus XP and bonus credits, but those would-be customer loyalty perks still rankled players that felt that they were blocked from content for insidious reasons. No more.
Eager to respond to negative feedback, Microsoft announced changes to the game on Tuesday that should mollify fans upset with pay gates in the upcoming Xbox One and PC video game builder. Just as the Xbox One Project Sparkbeta opened up to all players, developer Team Dakota completely removed Spark Time from the game.
Other microtransactions were transformed rather than excised. Spark Power remains on sale in Project Spark, though it's now called Spark Premium. Spark Power allowed you to play levels with DLC or level-blocked content indefinitely with no need to worry about Spark Time, and it granted a 200 percent boost to experience and credits earned. As Spark Premium, players just get the experience and credit boosts, making it easing to unlock new content in the game.
Microsoft's added 3-month, 6-month, and 12-month Spark Premium purchase options to the existing 1-day and 1-month options, making Project Spark into a more subscription-centric experience rather than one defined by piecemeal purchases.

Electronic Arts has the rights to publish the sequel to Respawn shooterTitanfall, according to what GameSpot describes as a "reputable source." EA refused to comment on "rumor and speculation" to GameSpot, but the site says EA's option to secure the rights was based on the first game's sales performance.
Polygon backs the claim EA secured the rights to a Titanfall sequel, adding that according to its sources the game won't be a Microsoft exclusive. EA is onlyreleasing Titanfall on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Windows PC.
While EA is refusing to comment and the sources' claims aren't confirmed, the bits and pieces we've heard from EA and Respawn seem to back up the speculation. Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella already assured fans that his studio will make games for the PS4, just "not the first Titanfall." EA Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen previously said, "I'm sure that there will be future Titanfalls at some point that may be on multiple product platforms. [I] don't know, that's up to the teams that are going through that now."
In any case, the Xbox 360 is still waiting on the first Titanfall. The Bluepoint-developed version was due to hit the platform on March 25, but EA delayed it yesterday to early April.

Back in my day, we squinted at a small square of GoldenEye on a cathode ray tube and we liked it.
Split-screen multiplayer gaming may have diminished in light of the internet connecting us with hurtful, bigoted strangers, but it does creep into modern games on occasion. The makers of Riptide GP2, a futuristic watercraft racing game picked up through Microsoft's indie games initiative, have opted to split the screen up to six ways in their port for the Xbox One. If you don't have six controllers handy at home (you don't?!), you can swap out local players for online ones.
Riptide GP2 comes from portable platforms, having done a successful circuit on iOS, Android, Windows 8.1 and Kindle. The Xbox One version - more akin to the current Steam version – will ship with 24 tracks and a host of customization options for your rocket-powered hydro horse.
Beyond its predilection for screen fragmentation, developer Vector Unit is known better for its work on Xbox Live Arcade's well received Hydro Thunder Hurricane.

Epic Games' new, surprisingly inexpensive subscription model for Unreal Engine 4 development drastically lowers the requirements for those hoping to create PC games, but the announcement left fans wondering if Epic might do the same for developers eyeing the console side of things.
When asked if Epic had any plans to add console support to its Unreal Engine 4 subscription model, studio co-founder Mark Rein responded in the affirmative. "[W]e'd love to," Rein tweeted in reply. "For now you need to be authorized by MS and/or Sony first."
"But I need to stress that UE4 already runs amazingly on XboxOne and PS4," Rein immediately added. "Lots of devs are already making UE4 games on those platforms."
As Rein illustrates, while Epic are working to lower the barrier of entry to game development, in a closed, proprietary system like a gaming console, the console's manufacturer holds all of the real power. Until Microsoft or Sony decide to kick open the gates, expect the status quo regarding who is able to develop console games to remain largely stagnant.

The self-publishing program will be home to titles like Super Time Force from Capybara Games, Contrast by Compulsion Games, and Guacamelee Super Turbo Championship Edition. The full list of titles is included below.
ID@Xbox was Microsoft's answer to calls for developer self-publishing on Xbox One. The program attracted criticism from several independent studios for requiring release-date exclusivity or parity.
But a Microsoft spokesperson has suggested that the company may be willing to overlook the clause in some circumstances.
Microsoft revealed 65 of more than 200 independent developers signed on with ID@Xbox in late February.[h=3]ID@Xbox titles[/h] - 1001 Spikes by Nicalis - This hardcore side-scroller features precise controls and a degree of difficulty that means starting with 1001 lives is not at all a guarantee you can make it through the game! Every level is custom designed to be beaten... barely. The game also includes co-op and cutthroat multiplayer modes.
- Calibre 10 Racing Series by Bongfish GmbH - "Calibre 10 Racing Series" is a spiritual successor to "Harms Way." The game is entirely multiplayer in a new experience that combines action-packed racing with fast-paced first person shooting.

- Contrast by Compulsion Games - "Contrast" is a 2D/3D adventure game, set in a surreal, 1920s, film noir dreamscape. You must help Didi explore the mysteries surrounding her family, by using your ability to shift at will between the 3D world and your 2D shadow.

- FRU by Through Games - "Fru" is a Kinect-based puzzle platformer in which the player utilizes both a joystick and their body to control the game. In fact, in "Fru," the player's silhouette is used to reveal what lies beneath the world at first glance. "Fru's" gameplay changes according to the player's shape, pose and movement.
- Guacamelee Super Turbo Championship Edition by DrinkBox Studios - "Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition" is an action-packed, 2D brawler/platformer that alternates between the worlds of the living and the dead.

- It Draws a Red Box by Other Ocean - "It Draws a Red Box" is a chaotic eight-player eSport jumping jetpack future arena ball game that is as inspired by "Bomberman" and "Smash Bros." as it is by cans of soda, paint-by-number books, and driving five miles faster than the speed limit.
- Nutjitsu by NinjaBee - "Nutjitsu" is a top-down, arcade-style game for Xbox One. Players take control of the ninja squirrel on his quest to reclaim his clan's honor. The Xbox One will eventually be host to a much larger number of 1080p games, according to a senior member of the Xbox team.
Xbox director of development Boyd Multerer told OXM he "fully" expects more developers to hit 1080p over time, saying: "The [graphics processing units] are really complicated beasts this time around."
Multerer said that as developers learn the ins and outs of the Xbox One hardware, they will eventually be able produce far better looking games.
"The hardware is basically baked," he said, "and what comes next is people discovering better software techniques to take advantage of it, especially in the ordering of the data so it flows through all the caches correctly, and I think there's a lot of opportunity there."
He also claimed the developers of Xbox One launch titles didn't have a lot of time to tweak their games and get them 1080p ready in time for launch.
"Once these engines - the engine developers like Frostbyte and those guys - they really wrap their heads around this particular GPU architecture, then all of the titles coming out of that studio will take advantage of it and get better," he said.
However, Multerer was also quick to state that resolution isn't everything. "Part of it is learning how to tune, part of it is I think a very legitimate question of quality of pixels versus number of pixels, and of course both are interesting."
A number of multiplatform games have rendered at a higher resolution on PS4 than Xbox One since the two consoles released in November 2013, including high profile release like Call of Duty Ghosts and Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. And some Microsoft platform exclusives like Titanfall have also failed to launch at 1080p.

The Xbox 360 version of Titanfall will now launch in the UK on 11th April, EA has announced. It marks a second two-week delay for the game, which was previously set to arrive next Friday (the 28th).Before that, it was simply down to launch alongside its beefier PC and Xbox One brothers."I want to update everyone on Titanfall for Xbox 360," EA exec Patrick Söderlund wrote in a new blog post. "I've been playing the game a lot, and it is fantastic. But we see a few things that can be made even better, so we're giving Bluepoint a little more time to do just that."Titanfall for Xbox 360 will now be releasing on April 8 in North America, and beginning on April 11 in Europe. The game will feature the same 6v6 gameplay, maps, modes, weapons and Burn Cards as the Xbox One and PC versions of the game."The Xbox 360 edition is being developed by Bluepoint Games, the accomplished porting house behind the God of War Collection, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection and the recent PS4 and Vita versions of Flower.Titanfall's PC and Xbox One versions touched down last weekend in the UK and helped boost sales of Microsoft's next-gen console by 96 per cent. How different will the Xbox 360 version be? Digital Foundry is on standby to hash out the details.
