The Xbox One is being lined up for a release in China, Microsoft has said. Global Times reports that Microsoft’s global vice president Zhang Yaqin has said that the platform holder “is stepping up efforts to bring in its multi-purpose Xbox game console to the Chinese market as soon as possible”.
When asked when this might occur he simply replied “soon”. It has already established a joint venture with Chinese media content provider BesTV New Media based in the Shanghai free trade zone.
Zhang added that efforts are already underway to secure localised content for the market.
The sale of games consoles was green lit in China in January.
Sony has already expressed its hope that China could provide a significant sales opportunity for PS4.
However, with the Chinese market expected to be highly price sensitive, all three platform holders will have to fend off competition from the likes of Huawei, which has already detailed plans to launch a budget games console called Tron in Q2 that will retail for just 1,000 Yuan (£97).
