Those fortunate enough to score a pre-release copy of Titanfall can enjoy the game without fear of retaliation from Microsoft or developer Respawn Entertainment.
This unexpectedly permissive news comes courtesy of no less a source than Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella. "About playing early: We won't stop or ban legit copies," Zampella tweeted, before warning early players that the pre-release gameplay experience may not be flawless. "It is prelaunch, so there may be interruptions in service as we prep servers," he added.
On a related note, those who pre-ordered the PC incarnation of Titanfall from EA's digital distribution service Origin can now begin pulling down the game's necessary files. As with all preloading schemes, you won't actually be able to play Titanfall until its official, March 11 debut, but hopefully that wait provides enough time to download all 50GB of Respawn's giant robot shooter.

2014 FIFA World Cup is skipping the new generation of consoles, opting instead for a full-priced boxed product on Xbox 360 and PS3, to ensure the game can reach as broad an audience as possible, EA Sports has said. It's a point made more pertinent by the slow take-up of the new generation of consoles in World Cup host nation Brazil, where thanks to import taxes a new PlayStation 4 costs $1850.During a press event previewing the new game, EA Sports producer Matt Prior told Eurogamer: "We only have a certain amount of resources that we can put towards this."It isn't limitless. It was difficult and easy at the same time - at the end of the day, we wanted to get the game to as many people as we could. In terms of making that decision, that's an easy one. The PS3 and 360 are by far the more popular consoles, particularly in emerging territories, with Brazil being a key one of those. Were we to have fixated on PS4 / Xbox One, we would have alienated the host nation which wouldn't have been wise..."Prior also revealed that traditionally 50 per cent of players for its tie-in event games aren't regular FIFA players. That statistic helped persuade EA to make the game a full-priced, fully-featured retail game - alongside the lukewarm reception given to its last official tournament tie-in, UEFA Euro 2012."We took a lot from that," said Prior. "The two main reasons we didn't do it as a DLC here - and it was driven from what we learned from Euro - was, firstly, primarily 50 per cent of our users only buy World Cup. There are a lot of people out there who only get interested in football when the World Cup comes around. So for those guys, if you do it as a DLC it's a real barrier to entry. They want to walk into a shop and pick up a packaged good off the shelf. If you do it through FIFA they've then got to go and buy FIFA, go home and go online to find the DLC and download it. It's a very complicated process for the kind of casual player. In addition it's more expensive for them."UEFA Euro 2012 was also criticised upon release for not adding to the core gameplay of its immediate predecessor, FIFA 12, a situation that's been addressed by 2014 FIFA World Cup."You just can't do nearly as much with DLC," said Prior. "The way our AI works, it's practically impossible to do major updates, and that was one of the criticisms about Euro - it was game modes rather than gameplay. We wanted to make sure we did sufficient gameplay changes to make it appealing to FIFA guys and new guys."There's also the physical size of it - there's loads of content in there which we couldn't do as DLC due to size limitations. A lot of that wouldn't be doable as DLC, so it alienates half our market and limits us in what we can do. The World Cup itself is big enough that it warrants its own game."The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of FIFA 14 will be getting World Cup-themed Ultimate Team content, and details are set to be revealed in the coming weeks.

EA owned studio DICE has once again promised to fix the problems that persist with Battlefield 4.
Part of this fix appears to be shifting development of the game’s remaining DLC to DICE LA, leaving Stockholm to focus on the core game.
"DICE LA works closely with the DICE studio in Stockholm on Battlefield 4," an EA rep told Polygon. "Development of Battlefield 4 Second Assault was led by DICE LA and the studio will continue to lead on future expansion packs including Battlefield 4 Dragon's Teeth and Battlefield 4 Final Stand."
A post on the game’s blog, meanwhile, promises that DICE regards fixing the game’s fundamental functionality issues as a ‘top priority’.
“Fixing the commonly nicknamed ‘netcode issues – problems ranging between faulty networking latency compensation and glitches in the gameplay simulation itself – is one of the top priorities for DICE,” the studio said.
“We are working on fixing glitches in your immediate interactions with the game world: the way you move and shoot, the feedback when you’re hit, and the way other players’ actions are shown on your screen.”
Issues specifically highlighted include decreasing rubber banding, kill camera delay and player death sync problems, upping the tickrate, damage failing to register and random instant deaths while sprinting.
“We want to assure you that we are constantly investigating, or already in the process of updating, all these items and several more that you’ve had concerns with – and that we will continue to do so with your help,” the studio added.
“Please continue to send us your feedback, and thank you for your continued support.”
DICE said in December that all of the game’s DLC had been put on hold so it could focus on ironing out the persistent issues. However, Second Assault was released in February and Naval Strike is due out this month.

Microsoft is inviting Xbox One players to give Project Spark and its game-crafting tools a test run in a new beta that launches today. The beta is global, and requires players to sign up to receive an invite - those who've been on the Windows 8.1 closed beta automatically get access to the Xbox One beta.
On Xbox One, players can use Kinect to animate characters using motion capture as well as give them triggered vocals, and Team Dakota's Sax Persson previously said the studio is also considering implementing gameplay control via Kinect.
"Part of the reason why we're in beta is to hear what people want to make," Persson told us last year. "If everybody tells us that we need to make it so I can play my Kinect games, then that's the next thing we do."

The Xbox 360 joins the Peggle 2 party on May 7, when PopCap's mix of pachinko, unicorns, and classical music tumbles onto systems in North America and Europe. There's no word on a price, but the game is tagged at $12 on Xbox One.
The news comes on the same day PopCap launched a new Duel Mode for the Xbox One version, allowing two players to fight locally for the right to call themselves a true Peggle Master - duels were previously limited to online matches. EA confirmed Duel Mode is coming to the Xbox 360 port, too.
EA limited today's announcement to the Xbox 360, but PopCap hasn't been shy about its desire to bring the pinballing sequel to "as many platforms as possible." A South Korean rating from last year suggests one of those platforms is the PS4.

Leaked some days ago, the Xbox One Media Remote has been officially announced.
Microsoft has just announced officially the Xbox One Media Remote with a price of $24.99 in the US.
According to Eurogamer:
"The remote lets you control video playback for Blu-ray movies and streaming video on Xbox One. The motion-activated backlit buttons illuminate as soon as you pick it up "allowing it to be used in the darkest of rooms while playing games, watching TV shows, movies and more", Microsoft said. It's out in early March.
It also includes dedicated Back and OneGuide buttons. The OneGuide button lets you access TV shows and movies through the Xbox program guide.
You can also use the media remote to control your TV/receiver power and volume through Kinect."

Ben Vanik has begun work on an Xbox 360 Emulator. Currently, it does nothing but some XEX print outs, but the immense amount of time and research put into this project is amazing and shows that 2014 will be a great year for 360 emulation.
If you have a GitHub account, you can star this REPO and watch as development progresses. Its open source, as you probably guessed. Whats even more interesting is that Ben's previous jobs include working at Google and Microsoft. The goal of this project is to experiment, research, and educate on the topic of emulation of modern devices and operating systems. It is not for enabling illegal activity. All information is obtained via reverse engineering of legally purchased devices and games and information made public on the internet (you'd be surprised what's indexed on Google)- Ben Vanik

I have been given some inside information that the update is coming on March 4th so I guess we will wait and see Since we first launched Xbox One, we have been thrilled to see our fans spending millions of hours on Xbox Live. Your enthusiasm reinforces our commitment to making Xbox One and Xbox Live the best place for gamers and entertainment fans. This week marks a big week for Xbox One as we will start to roll out our first product update for Xbox One. As previously shared, this update offers many new improvements – including lots of behind-the-scenes updates for developers building apps and games for Xbox One, several new features we believe Xbox fans will love, stability and product updates to improve the customer experience, and continuous improvements to the quality of Kinect voice so commands become more fluid and responsive over time. This is step one on our journey and commitment to deliver continuous innovation to Xbox One customers.
Xbox One is a platform designed to offer the best games and entertainment experience and we are committed to delivering more and more features to our customers. While we’re thrilled to launch the February update this week, we’re already looking ahead to March. We’ve prided ourselves on having the best multiplayer service for Xbox 360 and we’ve listened to your feedback about the features you want to see on Xbox One and Xbox Live. We’ve heard your feedback and the team has been working overtime to deliver updates that will significantly improve the multiplayer and party experience on Xbox One. Here are more details on what’s coming for parties and multiplayer in March:
- Get to your friends list faster. The friends list will be front and center on the homepage of the Friends app. Click the Social tile on Home, or say “Xbox, go to Friends” to see who’s online and what they’re up to. From there you can quickly send messages and get into a party.
- Party chat will be turned on by default. When you party up, chat audio will be turned on by default.
- Chat with friends playing different games. Partychat will be separated from people playing your game, so you can chat with your friends who are online or you can chat with everyone playing the game.
- We’re adding an “Invite friends to game” option to your multiplayer titles moving forward. Similar to Xbox 360 titles, this will appear inside a games’ menu and offer a simple and quicker way to set up your multiplayer battles. Selecting “Invite friends” will let you invite friends to your game and party.
- We’re adding “Recent Players.” This is a simple list that shows you Xbox Live members you’ve recently played with, making it easier to stay in touch with people, or add new friends after your multiplayer battles.
Our March Xbox One system update will start rolling out in early March. We’re excited to get these multiplayer and party improvements out in time for the March 11 launch of “Titanfall,” the highly anticipated team-based online multiplayer game.
The March update includes many more great features. The improvements to multiplayer and parties are just a few of the features that will be included, and we’ll continue to share more details in the days and weeks ahead, including in-depth videos so you’re all ready to take advantage of the new features in March. We’re lucky to have a passionate community that shares feedback. Thanks for helping us make Xbox One even better.

Think back on the calm, golden plains of Journey, and remember the joy of seeing players garbed in red cloaks, happily exploring the beautiful world around you. Now, imagine those players as Agent Smiths, some of them controlled by AI, some controlled by players - and no real way to tell who's who. Oh, and the Smiths aren't popping into your game to accompany you on a mesmeric journey of discovery. They want to shoot you dead, Mr. Anderson, very dead.
I'm not sure that's how Get Even clicked into the mind of The Farm 51's Wojciech Pazdur, but it aligns the inspirations he's trying to marry in the PS4, Xbox One, and PC first-person shooter, all under the umbrella of "what is real?" The plot - which Pazdur wants to keep mysterious - explores modern themes of different realities and memory, but the play takes this blurring of the lines one stage further: The enemies you face in Get Even aren't just AI - they could be human - but in theory there's no real way of knowing. Did you just shoot an Agent Smith, or another person plugged into the Matrix?

Sid Meier's Civilization: Revolution and Dungeon Defenders will be free to Xbox Live Gold subscribers during March, Major Nelson has confirmed.
Civilization: Revolution will be available from March 1 until March 15, while Dungeon Defenders will be available free from March 16 until the end of the month.
Games With Gold is Microsoft's answer to Sony's successful PS Plus service, which offers several free games to PS3, PS4 and Vita owners every month.
Unlike Sony's service, titles made available through Games With Gold will grant users access to those games even if their Gold subscription lapses.
Last month the service offered Dead Island and Toy Soldiers: Cold War.
The Games With Gold service is expected to launch on Xbox One later this year.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 may allow players to take control of Alucard, according to information extracted from the main game's text files.
Reportedly discovered by CS.RIN.RU user UbiSergei, the information indicates the game will offer the opportunity to "play as Alucard" and "discover the true extent of Alucard's involvement".
"Play as Alucard in this extensive add on for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2," reads the description. "The immersive story is expanded further as new branches of the plot are uncovered, along with rich new environments and challenging puzzles.
"Fight creatures of darkness and discover the true extent of Alucard's involvement in Dracula's story, his deal with death and his fight against Satan. Experience a whole new aspect of the thrilling conclusion to the 'Lords of Shadow' saga, including some enlightening revelations!"
Released late in February, Lords of Shadow 2 is been confirmed as the final chapter in Gabriel Belmonte's three game story arc.
In our Castlevania - Lords of Shadow 2 review, we said the game "bites off more than it can chew by trying to cater for too many".
Our reviewer said: "Just as Gabriel was wrong to answer the call of fate, so MercurySteam should know to tread its own course, instead of swaying to satisfy the Castlevania old guard. In trying to be all things to all people it offers less to those that loved it for what it was. Forget the dead family and vampiric curse - that's the true tragedy of this Dracula."
See what other critics think of the game in our Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 review round-up.

Kickstarted voice-controlled strategy game There Came an Echo has been pencilled in for release on Xbox One in 2015.
The game is currently in development for PC at indie outfit Iridium Studios, which successfully Kickstarted the title a year ago, raising just over $115,000, exceeding its original goal of $95,000.
In it, the player takes on the role of the field commander of a small squad, using their voice to direct units around a map to accomplish various objectives.
While there's a list of predefined commands (such as "open fire" or "Corrin, head to Bravo 3"), players will also be able to create their own custom phrases to replace the defaults (for example, "give 'em hell" instead of "open fire").
The PC version of There Came an Echo is due for release on Steam this October, while the Xbox One version will arrive next year, Iridium said in a new interview with Polygon.
"Really, Kinect is just a microphone to us," said Iridium's Jason Wishnov. "We use a regular headset during development, and we expect a lot of people will simply opt to use standard controls. I don't even blame them, really.
"The Xbox One dash voice commands are bizarrely inconsistent. Our focus remains on the PC, so in that respect, I wouldn't expect the Xbox One version to be wildly different. Still, optionally raising your hand to your ear to give a command seems like something we should put in there."
