A million magic spheres, painted blue and orange. Multi-million dollars, almost overnight. That's what Popcap and EA will be hoping for with Peggle 2 on Xbox 360, as the formerly Xbox One-only game is out now for $12 in North America, and £10/10 euros in Europe.
Peggle 2 notched a respectable three and a half stars in our Xbox One review. While Joystiq's Richard Mitchell enjoyed all the main levels, he came away feeling a bit let-down.
"Again though, for many players, all Peggle 2 ever needed to be was 'morePeggle' and, in that respect, it succeeds," Richard concluded. "The improved production value is evident, with adorably animated masters and their ridiculously exuberant final score celebrations stealing the show. I wish the same amount of effort had gone into expanding the core game's mechanical variety, though I suspect we'll see that down the road via DLC."

Bill Gates would support Microsoft’s long-rumoured decision to sell off the Xbox business, but does not expect such a thing to happen.
That appears to be the conclusion we can take from a number of reports that cropped up over the bank holiday weekend, some of which at one point seemed to point to support for the idea from former Microsoft boss Bill Gates.
Polygon reported on a Fox interview in which Gates said he would “absolutely” support now CEO Satya Nadella should he chose to dispense with the Xbox business, adding: “I'm sure Satya and the team will look at that, and, you know, it's up to them. But we're going to have an overall gaming strategy, so it's not as obvious as you might think."
However, Fox itself added that “Gates said he didn’t foresee either Bing, the company’s search engine division, or Xbox, its gaming division, as potential stand-alone companies because they are part of Microsoft’s long-term strategy”.
Then in a subsequent statement to Eurogamer Microsoft’s communications boss Frank Shaw said that Gates' comments "were reflective of his support of Satya as CEO” adding that “Microsoft is committed to gaming across multiple platforms with Xbox as the centerpiece of our gaming strategy” and that the company “remains committed to Xbox and the millions of Xbox fans around the world".
Rumours of Microsoft selling off its Xbox business have been circulating for over a year. Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen even argued late last year that such a move would be beneficial.
However, new Xbox boss Phil Spencer has recently dismissed the speculation out of hand.

Company founder would "absolutely" back CEO Satya Nadella if he decided to separate gaming business
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
If freshly minted Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella decides to get the company out of the video game business, he has Bill Gates' support in doing so. Speaking on Fox Business Network today, Gates initially danced around a question about potentially spinning off the Xbox business from the rest of the company.
"We're taking PC gaming, Windows gaming, and Xbox gaming, and bringing those a lot closer together," Gates said. "The power of the PC graphics chips means you can do great games there. I'm sure Satya and the team will look at that. And it's up to them. But we're going to have an overall gaming strategy, so it's not as obvious as you might think."
However, when asked if he would support Nadella if the decision were made to spin off Xbox, Gates didn't hesitate.
"Absolutely," Gates said.
At the very least, Gates was more open to the idea of excising Xbox from the company proper than its search engine Bing.
"Certainly the Bing technology has been the key to us learning how to do large-scale data centers," Gates said. "And Bing lets us see what's going on on the Internet so that as people are interested in various topics, we know what's new. We know when they're typing text, what it might mean. So I see that as a pretty fundamental technology for the company, even for its Office business, which is a very, very core business... We're thinking about, 'Are there pieces that are separable?' But our basic research, including the stuff that goes into Bing, I can't see that making sense to break it off."

Titled Xbox: Game On, you'll be able to watch the show live online at Xbox.com, via Xbox Live and on Windows Phone, or you can log on to Eurogamer and accompany your viewing with our usual commentary on how lovely the speakers' shirts are and complaints about how loud the dubstep is.The presentation will be preceded by a half hour pre-show event, also streamed online, while the conference itself is expected to last 90 minutes.Xbox boss Phil Spencer has recently taken to Twitter to discuss Microsoft's plans and said that hardcore gamers will be the show's main focus. The long-awaited Squad Join feature has been added to the console versions of first-person shooter Battlefield 4.Squad Join allows up to five players to form a squad before joining a game. Create a squad and your friends can immediately join you. Once the squad has been formed the squad leader can launch into the game. The squad stays active as long as there are players in it, guaranteeing friends stay together over rounds. The beta version of Squad Join is available now. "This is something we know our fans have been asking for - and something we wish we could have provided at launch - so we are now happy to present the first iteration of Squad Join," DICE said in a note on Battlelog.Squad Join will be improved over time, the developer added, with the next iteration coming alongside the Dragon's Teeth expansion this summer.Initially, Squad Join Beta will be available in the Battlefield 4 base game maps in the Conquest, Team Deathmatch, Obliteration, Rush, and Domination game modes, but all the other Battlefield 4 maps and more game modes will be supported in later iterations of Squad Join."In this multi-release process, we are working on features like managing party members, and making Squad Join available for all game modes," DICE dded.Squad Join will not come to the PC version, DICE confirmed. It said PC players can easily join friends on the battlefield by using Battlelog.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is going to be a bit different than previous CoD games for one reason: you'll be outfitted with a slick cybersuit will allow you to boost-dodge, climb with magnetic gloves, jump unrealistically high, hover in mid-air, and enable optic camouflage. It sounds like someone's been playing a lot of Titanfall and Vanquish, which is in no way a bad thing.
The super-powered suit and loads of other details about Advanced Warfare were revealed in GameInformer's new cover story (via Gamespot).Set in 2054, Advanced Warfare is the series' most futuristic entry. Its plot kicks off after a terrorist organisation called the KVA incites an incident likened to "a global 9/11." Player character, Private Mitchell, joins up with Kevin Spacey's PMC where he gets his cool, upgradable "EXO" suit.Mitchell will be voiced by Troy Baker - i.e. the actor behind The Last of Us' Joel, BioShock Infinite's Booker DeWitt, and Batman: Arkham Origins' Joker. For better or worse, he will only speak in cutscenes, and will be the campaign's only protagonist.Advanced Warfighter will feature a co-op mode, though it's unclear if this is separate from the main campaign.Further futuristic tech teased included energy weapons, a vehicle loosely based on actual Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs), and grenades that can reveal nearby enemy locations on your visor.Elsewhere, Microsoft confirmed that Advanced Warfare's DLC will launch first on Xbox platforms. This should come as little surprise, as that's the way things have been for awhile. Typically PlayStation platforms and PC receive the same content about a month later.Advanced Warfare will run on a new engine and developer Sledgehammer Games is handling its PC, PS4 and Xbox One releases, while a second, yet-to-be-announced studio will be developing its Xbox 360 and PS3 ports. It's due worldwide on 4th November.

Using the Xbox One's Kinect for voice commands is still pretty hit-or-miss for many, and Microsoft knows it. With the console's next update, Redmond is adding an option for speech data collection as a way to crowdsource the sensor's improvement. Writing on his blog, Xbox's Major Nelson says that the more voice samples the company has to add to its algorithms, the more accurate the console can be. If you aren't keen on the company collecting samples of your voice (which is entirely understandable!), it's an entirely opt-in process. Should you want to help out, however, all you need to do is dip into the console's privacy settings and enable it. This isn't the first time that Microsoft has done such, though -- a similar function was in place on the Xbox 360 as well.
Update: The 312MB update is rolling out to those in the preview program now, check the new update button under System in the Settings menu to download it.

Microsoft's new Xbox head Phil Spencer doesn't think an Xbox gaming handheld makes sense. Spencer took to Twitter yesterday afternoon in a surprisingly candid conversation with fans, one of whom asked if Microsoft is pursuing, "a handheld Xbox One-like gaming device at E3 or in the future." Spencer responded with a frank, "I don't think we'll do a dedicated handheld gaming device." To him, Windows Phone and tablets make more sense. "Maybe with controller support someday," he said. That should put to bed rumors of an "Xbox Surface" for now.

Studio takes reigns on new futuristic shooter starring Kevin Spacey
Sledgehammer Games has revealed its first solo project in the Call of Duty franchise, Advanced Warfare.
In February publisher Activision announced the developer would take the helm for the first time this year as it switches the blockbuster IP to a three-year development cycle, with other titles being developed by Infinity Ward and Treyarch.
Sledgehammer previously co-developed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 with Infinity Ward.
Its newly revealed title, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, takes the franchise further into the future than ever before and includes new features such as cloaking, large mech suits, jump-enhancing exoskeletons and hover bikes.
The game will also star House of Cards actor Kevin Spacey.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is currently slated for release on November 4th later this year.

Participants in the Xbox One's early access program can expect a new update to arrive sometime this week, while general users will see it sometime in May. Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb's post explains that with the update, snapped apps will soon be manageable with a sound mixer found in the Settings menu, which will allow users to adjust volume levels for apps independently. The same functionality will allow users to tweak volume levels while using the Kinect for chatting.
The update will also allow users to opt into allowing their speech data to be collected, which Major Nelson states will "be used for product improvement only." Users will be able to toggle their related permission by visiting the Settings menu, selecting Privacy & Online Safety, heading into Customizing Privacy and Online Safety, and setting Share Voice Data to "Allow." The post explains that having additional voice samples for the software's algorithms would help improve the Kinect's responsiveness, but if you'd rather let Microsoft smooth the kinks out on their own, that's definitely an option as well.

Activision's posted the official trailer, confirming Destructoid's leak. The new Spacey-based shooter is Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and it's out on November 4, 2014.
Earlier today, Destructoid said it learned through a "trusted source" the game centers on a mercenary group led by Kevin Spacey's character, and this renegade faction has the US government in its sights. That tallied with whatActivision's teased, and the publisher's now released an official video ahead of the expected reveal on Sunday, May 4.
The trailer showcases futuristic elements like soldiers clad in beefy-looking exoskeletons, and a whole bunch of hover-things including hover-bikes(!). We'll keep you updated on further details as they trickle out.

Following an initial launch that saw the WWE Network's debut on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Xbox 360, the streaming video app has now made its way to the Xbox One.
The WWE Network app, which offers users access to pay per view events, weekly programming and the WWE's extensive vault of pro wrestling footage, requires an Xbox Live Gold subscription and that users subscribe to the WWE Network itself. The latter subscription costs $10 per month, though new users are required to make a six-month commitment to the service.

With a decent line-up of exclusive games both already available and on the way, it’s perhaps no surprise, of course.
But Xbox boss Phil Spencer has stressed once again that the development, publishing and availability of exclusive games on Xbox One is an actively pursued strategy at Microsoft.
“Exclusive games will continue to play a major role for Xbox in the new console generation, just as they have in previous generations,” he told Forbes. “I'm a true believer in our exclusive platform features like Kinect, SmartGlass, and the Cloud, but games have always been the bedrock of our consoles at Xbox.
“On Xbox One, we came out of the gate strong last November with Forza Motorsport 5, Dead Rising 3, and Ryse: Son of Rome, and we haven't slowed down having just released Kinect Sports Rivals, and of course Titanfall. This E3 is important for us to show gamers our future plans for exclusives and third-party support.
“Right now I think we have a strong lineup of in-development exclusives, including games like Sunset Overdrive, Project Spark, Quantum Break, and Halo, in addition to some exciting titles you will hear more about at E3.”
Spencer also touched on the saga that enveloped Xbox last year throughout which it had to abandon a number of its Xbox One plans amidst a backdrop of criticism from vocal gamers.
“We took the feedback we got last year to heart. I took it personally – you'd be hard-pressed to find someone at Xbox who didn't,” he admitted. “Early on, we could have done a better job communicating our intent more clearly, but I'm proud of the way we responded, changed our plans, moved forward, and ultimately delivered a successful product that fans are really enjoying.
“We were reminded just how important it is to listen to our fans. We proved they can impact the products we make. Maintaining an open dialogue with Xbox fans is a commitment we'll continue to uphold.”

The next title in the Call of Duty franchise will be unveiled this Sunday, according to a new teaser page for the game.
The page reads “Get Ready for a New Era of Call of Duty,” and shows images of a soldier and what appears to be the Golden Gate Bridge.
A countdown timer on the page indicates the full reveal will hit at 10 AM US Eastern Time on Sunday, May 4th. Polygonrightly points out that up to three decisive matches in NBA playoff series could take place that day, and Activision has had a history of partnering with the organization to advertise the series during games.
The latest Call of Duty effort is in development at Sledgehammer Games, and expected to launch on PS4 and Xbox One.

Microsoft announced yesterday it would launch Xbox One in China this September and try to crack the market of a country which previously outlawed games consoles altogether.
Now, several industry figures have weighed in on Microsoft's chances of success - with varying levels of optimism. In a lengthy post to his Facebook page last night, Alice Returns developer American McGee - a long-time resident of Shanghai - deemed the plan a "blunder"."It's a good thing Microsoft is rolling in cash, because they've just made announcement of a plan that's going to cost them dearly," he explained, listing five reasons Microsoft's console was apparently doomed to failure.Far from the country being a fresh market, easy importing via online sellers meant Xbox One (and other consoles) were already there, McGee reasoned, adding that everyone already has a set-top streaming box of some description, too.Piracy is another big issue for Microsoft to battle, while McGee also questioned the console's target market, saying that middle-class youngsters may not have time for gaming."Between the ages of 3-22 years of age they are heads-down with study, school, and extra-curricular activities that will increase their chances of competing successfully against others in the super-hot Chinese job market," he wrote. "Those that aren't studying don't have money to spend on a console."Legitimately sold consoles will also suffer from censorship and restrictions on games, he concluded - something seemingly backed up by the Chinese government's recently-published guidelines for which games it will allow to be released. The rules will block "anything that promotes obscenity, drug use or violence", anything that "insults, slanders or violates the rights of others" and any gambling-related content or features."Microsoft has to make a play for the Chinese consumer."
IHS analyst Piers Harding-Rolls
But industry analyst Piers Harding-Rolls has argued that Microsoft may not have much choice in its push for China."Microsoft has to make a play for the Chinese consumer," he told Eurogamer today, citing the fact that the company's rivals were already moving in on the country."While Microsoft has other products and brands that are positioned in the country (Windows software, Nokia phones) the company has correctly identified that the lack of an official console market means an early move like this gives the company an opportunity to fill this vacuum more efficiently."Writing in an IHS Technology article yesterday, Rolls added that Microsoft was in a better place to succeed "than either or Nintendo" at present due to Microsoft's push to offer local media content and experience with other types of technology in the country.Microsoft's competitors in the Chinese market at the moment are the huge amount of PC gamers and the growing popularity of mobile gaming, predominantly on Android handsets."We do not expect sales fireworks at launch, but with its partner BesTV, which has access to local entertainment content, a large addressable market of existing IPTV users as well as marketing and distribution expertise, Microsoft is giving itself a good opportunity."Even with this approach, success is not guaranteed. What is clear is that, in a market where a limited number of consumers game on consoles and almost none spend money on console content, success will not happen overnight. It will take significant time to educate the Chinese audience about the Xbox brand and Xbox One device - so strategic longevity, deep financial pockets and commercial staying power will all play a role in building towards success in the territory."

Since GameSpy announced that it was shuttering its online mulitplayer services come May 31st, a few companies have adressed how their respective legacy games would keep functioning in the future. Rockstar Games has recently come out with its two-years-in-the-making solution, and, well, there's a direct relationship between how old a game is and the number of features it'll lose. With last year'sGrand Theft Auto V, there's nothing to worry about -- it's business as usual for players as the outfit converts to its own system for hosting online services like multiplayer and progression tracking. Internet play will remain intact for Red Dead Redemption (posse up!) and Grand Theft Auto IV, but online stat-tracking and leaderboards -- and "in-game Social Club services," for the former -- hosted via the Rockstar Social Club won't.
