Microsoft is cleaning out its digital shelves with a sizable sale on Xbox 360 games and add-ons this week. Ending April 21, the sale spans 11 games and hundreds of pieces of DLC. Five of the games feature popular DC comics superhero Batman in some capacity, such as 75 percent off both Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City through Games on Demand ($4.99 / £3.74 / 4.99 euros each). Additionally, Injustice: Gods Among us is half-off ($19.99 / £17.49 / 24.99 euros), Lego Batman 2 is 67 percent off ($6.59 / £4.94 / 6.59 euros) and XBLA game Gotham City Imposters is 75 percent off ($3.74 / £2.49 / 3.59 euros). All of the above deals are valid for those with a paid Xbox Live Gold subscription.
Among the other games on sale for all Xbox Live users is Saints Row 4, which is half-off this week ($14.99 / £12.49 / 14.99 euros). Three other games are discounted through Games on Demand: Borderlands 2 is 65 percent off ($6.99 / £6.99 / 10.49 euros), Lego Marvel Super Heroes is 33 percent off ($33.49 / £30.14 / 43.54 euros) and Prototype 2 is 75 percent off ($9.99 / £4.99 / 7.49 euros). Lastly, XBLA games Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+ is half-off ($4.99 / £3.37 / 4.74 euros) and Assassin's Creed: Liberation HD is 33 percent off ($13.39 / £10.71 / 13.39 euros) for the week.

The Xbox One is expected to sell 100,000 units in China, where it is scheduled to launch in July.
That forecast was revealed by BesTV, the Chinese media company that Microsoft has partnered with to tackle the country's emerging console market.
In a recent earnings call - as reported by QQ Games - BesTV detailed their joint venture, stating that Microsoft would be in charge of appointing the new company's CEO, and that it would produce a variety of content specifically for the Chinese market
BesTV also suggested that Xbox One games will cheaper in China than in more established markets - comparatively, at least. A new Xbox One game will retail for around 300 RMB - equivalent to $48 - but the joint venture would create content for a variety of business models.
The Chinese government announced plans to relax its decade-long console ban in September last year. So far, Microsoft has been more aggressive than both Sony and Nintendo in its plans for the new market.

GAME Boxpark, the Xbox-only store in London's trendy Shoreditch area, will shut down before the end of this month. The trial store opened in June 2013 and was designed to showcase Xbox 360 and Xbox One products, particularly in the lead-up to the latter's autumn launch.GAME has said that the store was only rented on a "short-term contract" but that learnings from its operation have been implemented in other stores nationwide."[It] has given us real insight into what consumers expect from the next generation of retail," GAME exec Dave Howard told MCV."Customers really showed an appetite for hands-on experience, interactive displays and a way to digitally access Xbox Live content. We will continue to innovate our stores with Microsoft."Eurogamer popped along last year to have a look at the UK's first Xbox-exclusive GAME. Robert Purchese described the shop as tiny, "like a corridor" but with a heavy focus on getting hands-on experiences with products."To my eye it looks like the video game shop of the future," Purchese said, "On an experimentally small scale at the moment."

via MCV UK
The Xbox shop in London closes this month, MCV can reveal.
The store was effectively a trial for GAME and Microsoft and was on a short-term lease at the Boxpark area in Shoreditch.
The shop opened in June 2013 and was devoted entirely to Xbox products. Its primary aim was to help push Xbox One.
GAME insists the experiment was a success and it has rolled-out some of elements from the shop across its 320 store base.
"The short-term contract location for the dedicated Xbox store has given us real insight into what consumers expect from the next generation of retail,” said GAME stores director Dave Howard.
“We have implemented Xbox sections in all of our stores - we have taken all the best of the Xbox store into over 320 GAME stores around the UK. Customers really showed an appetite for hands-on experience, interactive displays and a way to digitally access Xbox Live content. We will continue to innovate our stores with Microsoft"
Harvey Eagle, Director of Marketing for Xbox UK added: “This was a pop-up concept store which was a key part of the most successful Xbox console launch ever. We continue to look at new and innovative ways to deliver the Xbox brand experience to gamers.”

The Xbox One's long-teased April update rolls out in "a few hours," Microsoft spokesoldier Larry 'Major Nelson' Hyrb said tonight. Among other features, the system update adds notifications for when friends come online, improved quality for DVR capture, and tweaks to ensure Kinect better responds to voice and gesture control. You'll find a full breakdown of the update's features just below the break.
Other additions include a progress bar for game saves, Blu-ray support for 50Hz content, controller and headset updates to reduce audio static and improve connectivity, and the option to have your system update automatically from the Instant On state when new firmware is available.

Microsoft is looking to tempt French soccer fans to the Xbox One with a newbleu bundle tied to the country's leading team, Paris Saint-Germain. The package includes the system, a subscription to the club's TV channel, a special jersey, and some unique stickers to adorn your Xbox One with so your gaming pals can know exactly who you support - if they hadn't worked it out from the jersey.
French retailer Micromania says the bundle launches on May 7 for 580 euros, compared to the regular 500 euros the system costs in the country. For reference, our French friends are paying what converts to around $690 for their Xbox One systems, and that goes up to $800 for the PSG bundle. Sacre bleu! Also, if you're a PSG fan who prefers your hardware flatter, Microsoft's France has a themed Surface bundle that's launching in May, too.
The hardware packages are part of a sponsorship deal that Microsoft and PSG forged in November 2013, and Microsoft's already been taking advantage of its tie to one of Europe's most prominent sporting names. The company made superstar forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic a Xbox ambassador last year, a role he's taken to with his famed panache and narcissistic pomp. Earlier this year, the Swede gifted each of his teammates a custom "Zlatan Limited Edition" Xbox One bearing their squad numbers, names, and of course his own signature.

UK games retailers want to see a PS3 and Xbox 360 price cut before the end of the year.
Top stores have told MCV that reducing the cost of Sony and Microsoft’s last generation machines will encourage younger and more casual gamers to jump back into the console market.
“We would welcome any activity from platform holders that would stimulate interest in the older hardware for new consumers yet to experience console gaming, be it a cut in price of hardware or games,” said SimplyGames purchasing manager Steve Moore.
“Already we have seen a shift towards the PS4 and Xbox One in terms of software sales, and the predicted continued sales of PS3 and Xbox 360 games have failed to appear. Having waited nearly ten years for a new console, gamers are making the jump straight away.
“Any price move will be dictated by consumers voting with their wallets. Right now they are clearly saying they want Xbox One and PS4. We’ll see aggressive bundles rather than a price cut for the first half of the year.”
Robert Lindsay, MD of Games Centre added: “As the price of new consoles becomes more competitive both in terms of price and bundle options then it makes sense for PS3 and 360 prices to follow suit. A sub-£150 price point would be far more attractive to consumers looking for an entry level machine.
“I would be surprised if we don’t see a price drop on PS3 and Xbox 360 before the summer is over.”
However, not everyone is convinced a price alignment is imminent. Last month, EA’s Blake Jorgensen’s said that a reduction in price for the consoles before Christmas was unlikely, something that ShopTo purchasing director James Rowson agrees with.
“If there is a price cut on PS3 and Xbox 360 it is not coming any time soon despite the weekly drop off in sell through,” he said. “I wouldn’t rule out a price cut towards the end of 2014 if either or both company wants to wring out one last strong Christmas.
“Based on where PS2 and Xbox got to with a £99 price at the very tail end I would hope there is one last major migration still to come and if we also see new release pricing for PS3 and 360 software at a lower band then we could welcome that last chunk of major mass market and prolong the generation a little further.”

The Xbox One version of Trials Fusion will require a day-one patch to raise the game's resolution to 900p, Ubisoft has confirmed to Eurogamer. Before that the game will run at 800p, albeit at 60fps.The game's PlayStation 4 version will run at 1080p 60fps from launch.Intriguingly, Eurogamer was told back in February that developer Redlynx was targeting 1080p for both PS4 and Xbox One, although the final specifications for each platform had yet to be locked down."For the new gen systems, the target is 1920x1080 but we are still optimising for those systems so we have nothing definitive on the resolutions yet," studio brand manager Jason Bates told us.Digital Foundry is currently looking at all four versions of the game (Xbox 360 and PC, too) and will have the full verdict on how all of them match up very soon.

"One of the hot topics in the wake of Titanfall's launch has been whether or not DirectX 12 would make a difference to the game's sometimes jerky framerate and lower-than-expected 792p resolution. According to Titanfall developer Jon Shirling, the new Microsoft API isn't needed to improve the game's performance, and updates coming down the pipe should improve Xbox One play in the near future. This confirms what many expected since DX12 was announced — the API may offer performance improvements in certain scenarios, but DX12 isn't a panacea for the Xbox One's lackluster performance compared to the PS4. It's an API that appears to mostly address scenarios where the CPU isn't able to keep the GPU fed due to draw call bottlenecks."

Titanfall pilots that are a bit fatigued from stomping around the same set of maps, take note - the game's first round of DLC maps is due in May under the title of "Expedition." Polygon reports that the three-pack of maps will include "Swampland," a stretch of alien ruins that offers trees for wallrunning, "Runoff," a map that incorporates water, and "War Games," a map that's hosted within the game's training simulator.
"Expedition" is the first of three $10 map packs that are included in Titanfall's season pass, which was announced in March alongside its $25 price tag. The pass provides a $5 discount from what the combined price of the three map packs would be if bought separately.

xeBuild is a command line system image builder for JTAG, glitch, and clean images.
Change Log
1.12
•check FCRT.bin signature with PIRS_pub.bin or MAST_pub.bin if available (selection based on content)
•check DAEP signed signatures in DAE.bin (usually 2) with PIRS_pub.bin if available
•check CRLP signed CRL.bin signatures with PIRS_pub.bin if available
•fix mobile extraction stalling process on corrupt NAND
•do not patch boot reasons into flash header for devkit and retail builds, only glitch and jtag
•added patch to kernel to attempt to block network until launch.xex has loaded (if available)
•add -o smcnocheck to image build options/ini; avoids fatal build error if smc is unknown
•add 16747
•fixed: was not automatically creating all the folders for 16747 avatar data to be valid
How To Use:
•See individual folders for lists of files to provide
•If desired provide replacement cpu and 1bl keys in text files
•open a command window in the xeBuild directory
•on the command line type, for example:
example - if you provided keys in appropriate text files
xeBuild.exe -t glitch -c falcon -d myfalcon myfalconout.bin
-t glitch = build a glitch type image
-c falcon = use falcon bl and patch set
-d myfalcon = a folder is present called "myfalcon" with per machine files, this uses it myfalconout.bin = the file that will be produced
•type 'xeBuild.exe -?', 'xebuild client -?' or 'xebuild update -?' for command line info
Update and Client modes:
Both modes require the supported updsvr running on the xbox, full functionality may require updating console patches with the included hv patches. Both the PC and the xbox need to be on the same subnet/LAN router.
Client mode is a simple way to read, write and patch flash as well as few other simple commands such as the patch updater. The patch updater will look in the folders beside the exe for {version#}\bin\patches_{type}.bin which are full patches for whichever console and hack type, it will load and strip the patches if needed and send them to the console. Note that only xebuild images are truly supported for this.
Most of the client mode commands should be available on any console, even unhacked devkits. See output from 'xebuild client -?' for more information on the options available.
Update mode attempts to retain as much data about the console as possible, without having to provide any info on the command line aside from optional/addon patches if required. After you copy the $SystemUpdate folder into (in this example) the folder 16203 it is capable of taking a simple command line like:
• xebuild update -f 16203 -a nohdmiwait
It will fetch all the info from the console, and use the updater to update both the system flash and avatar data on the console (provided you have an 360 formatted HDD internally in the console.)
It has some more advanced options to allow one to build the update image as well as dump the data from the console as it's acquired, while even leaving the console data untouched. See output from 'xebuild update -?' for more information on the options available.
Neither update or client image writes are able to affect bad blocks, but are able to write new ones.
If this happens mistakenly, an erase block command has been provided in client that will attempt to clear the bad block - use with caution though, blocks get marked as bad for good reasons and is a normal occurrence on NAND when a block becomes unreliable.
With big block machines, the server will attempt to retain any NAND mu data in the system area, provided there is no system data to write in the image being sent. It's not foolproof, but update mode should not corrupt NAND mu.
Example:
• take original console dump, put it in mytrinity folder as NANDdump.bin
• set CPU key and 1BL key in ini file, verify LDV from NANDdump.bin matches console fuses
• if not set cfldv in ini file
• build (xeBuild.exe -t glitch -d mytrinity -f 13599), flash and hopefully life is good
.ini files:
Just a word on the format... the ini parser is not very robust, the files need to be plain ASCII, everything after a ; on a line is ignored, and spaces are not acceptable (they get removed).
Things like CPU key and 1BL key, if present in the per box ini file need not be placed anywhere else.
Optional Patches:
Various optional patches are included for use with the -a option, they are:
• nofcrt - removes fcrt.bin requirement on some drives
• nohdd - disables detection of internal SATA HDD
• nohdmiwait - HDMI consoles will no longer wait or EXX screen when video is not ready
• nolan - disables wired LAN to prevent E75/76/77 on machines with a damaged PHY
• nointmu - disables jasper NANDmu, trinity 4G internal USB and corona 4G MMC memory units
blmod.bin:
Changing the patches to the BL that follows the BL that is executing during glitch attempts has a direct effect on whether a machine will glitch. The provided patches are generic and work well on most machines, but this per machine build addon can now be supplied without modifying the base patches to CBB or CD via a file in the perbuild folder, they will simply be tacked onto the end of CBB or CD, and the BL size adjusted to include this new data in the hash.
Keep in mind, it can take multiple attempts and re-flashing with different binary data to find something that will boot at all, let alone be more effective for your console.
blmod is currently not supported by update mode.
Note:
- DON'T USE THIS UNLESS YOU KNOW FOR SURE THAT YOU NEED IT!
Using an incorrect controller config can result in problems remapping bad blocks (even manually.)
If you have a 16M jasper, an additional build type has been added 'jaspersb', by default the image will be built for jasper with big block controller (config 00023010), use this alternate switch to build for small block controller (config 01198010.)
Multi build/options example:
When you specify -f 13599 on the command line:
•13599\filelist.ini is parsed instead of data\filelist.ini
Also the bin directory is used from 13599\bin\ instead of bin\ allowing anyone to create multiple builds without multiple instances or rebuilds/hex edits/hacks of the main app.
The example provided is the last version of 13599 patch set from dash launch and
other files to build freeboot 13599
example use:
xeBuild -f 13599 -d myfalcon x13599out.bin
• -f 13599 : use .\13599\filelist.ini, and .\13599\ for firmware files, .\13599\bin\ for patches
• -d myfalcon : use .\myfalcon for per build files (cpu key, keyvault, security files, ini etc.)
• x13599out.bin: override auto generated name and produce .\x13599out.bin as the final NAND image
Note: if -d ***** is not specified it will still use the original /data and /bin dirs
Devkit image building:
This feature is currently considered Beta/Work In Progress.
A new image target type was added, "-t devkit" which builds 64M flash images for devkits. Currently untested, building with a 00 filled CPU key will create a zeropaired devkit image that may allow one to boot a software bricked devkit that one does not know the CPU key for and recover it to an operational state. By powering on the console with such an image present, with a recovery DVD in the drive, the recovery software should be able to create a new keyvault, re-pair the DVD drive to the new keyvault, and allow normal operation once complete.
Normal devkit image building when one does know their CPU key and thus has security files and keyvault should work as expected.
Building devkit for glitch/jtag is also possible using the standard -t glitch/jtag methods. Sample ini have been provided with this release, but will not work unless patches and files are supplied. Note that devkit is not our focus, but was relatively easy and straight forward option to supply for those that wish to make use of it.
jasperbigffs:
Those who use large block NAND are now able to nearly double the size of the system file area with this option with no apparent ill effects. Normally this option wouldn't be needed, but if one wanted to experiment with more files in flash, or one was building a devkit image for a devkit with a big block flash, this option is required.

A new version of Dash Launch has been released to allow support for 360 kernel version 16747
This version also includes some additions and bug fixes.
ChangeLog
V3.12
•default behaviour of live block is now to use strong block rules (at least until ini is loaded)
•fix compatibility issues with dashes created before AP25 was deployed (spoof the AP functions on older versions)
•limit fakelive/autofake to 14717+ kernels
•add export so plugins can find out where they were loaded from during dllMain() (it's volatile, copy it in Main() if you need it!)
•update 16547 patches to delay network bringup in xam until launch.xex loads
•add trinity internal usb to hddkeepalive (for those that have a usb hdd hooked up there)
•add 16747
Known Issues:
- *** WARNING ***
One of the testers observed a console reaching out to live despite liveblock only when fakelive or autofake was enabled. If you intend a keyvault to not get banned, do not use it on a glitch/jtag machine!
•Autologin pop-up blob does not display properly... live with it.
Currently the project is missing the following supported translations:
•Japanese, Korean, Chinese Simplified, Chinese traditional
Currently supplied translations:
•English, French, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, German, Italian, Polish
The skin pack includes the sources used to skin dash launch as well as the string files if anyone wishes to create a translation to one of the above languages (including English, as I know my explanations are not always easy to understand.) Also included is a c# based editor for the string files to assist in translation.
External fonts, background image and skins may be used by this, simply place skin.xzp and/or font.ttf and/or background.png (1020x720) beside default.xex. If neither location has a font file supplied the system font on flash will be used.
Overview
•It will launch a XeX or CON file from the path you specified in launch.ini as long as it's valid
•Depending on the button you hold when the xbox is trying to load the NXE, it will divert to the xex/con tied to that button or return to default as defined in launch.ini
•At boot time it is possible to subvert default item and/or NXE loading, but you must wait until the controller syncs to do so
•Depending which button is held when closing miniblade in NXE (use Y button to close, release then hold a QL button) it will quick launch a CON or XEX from your ini file allows one to patch kernel/xam at bootup with a freeBOOT patch style bin file from usb or hdd (in that order) must be in root of the device and be named "kxam.patch" and be no larger than 0x4000 bytes.
•Again, kxam.patch binary format is the same as a compiled freeboot patch bin, but uses real virtual addresses rather than offsets - as of 2.22 the first 32bit value must instead be the version of the kernel the patches apply to - with the included patch set,
•launch.xex acts as a helper to detect when xbox1 emulator loads, allowing memory unlock patch and xbox1 emulator to function together

Titanfall publisher EA has nixed potential plans to bring the robot-infested shooter to the Xbox 360 as a digital download. A new entry on EA's help site explains the decision:
"After extensive testing, we felt that [a digital release] simply did not represent the true Titanfall experience and it was decided not to release a Games on Demand version. We hope players understand this decision was all about quality and making sure you get the best Titanfall experience."
While this is disappointing news for anyone counting down the ongoing death of physical media, we will remind would-be mech pilots that the disc-based version of the game has been performing admirably in our ongoing State of Service tests. Our latest report notes minor, isolated issues in the PC version, but otherwise all of the game's servers appear to be chugging along nicely.

This month’s Edge magazine is out now in print, on iPad, Google Play and Zinio. In it, we talk to leaders at Microsoft to discover how the company intends to turn its console division around and put it back into the number one spot.Xbox One has been dragged out of the pit in which it was dumped in 2013, but a rough battle lies ahead, and recent software sales help to illustrate the difficulties in store. Official UK data shows that PS4 accounted for 58 per cent of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes units sold at the game’s launch, with PS3 copies accounting for 15 per cent. That left a miserable 27 per cent shared across Xbox One and Xbox 360. When the game’s developer, Kojima Productions, is so forthcoming about the comparative deficiencies of its Xbox One version, though, such numbers shouldn’t be too shocking.Clearly, Microsoft’s console needs to continue evolving – and quickly. We’re doing the same, albeit at a slightly less urgent pace; given that we’re now ankle-deep into a new generation of videogame hardware, it feels like a good time to shake things up a bit. So we’ve revamped certain sections of the magazine, put others aside for the time being, and exhumed Time Extend, following many requests for its return (thank you for the polite ones). We’ve also chosen to no longer segregate some of our more development-focused content, because research tells us you’re more interested than ever in the stories behind the games we play. We’re also welcoming some new columnists, including Ian Bogost, while old hand James Leach broadens his perspective to encapsulate all of game development, not just the parts that involve words. At the same time, we’re bidding farewell to some of our other columns, but their authors haven’t gone for good: expect to see their work in these pages again in the near future within the heart of Edge, our features section. Longform content has been one of the magazine’s staples since its launch 20 years ago, and our revised format allows us to deliver even more of it. And we want you to get in touch via edge@futurenet.com to let us know how we’re measuring up.

The hugely popular first-person shooter series Borderlands is getting a new entry in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, a game set between the story of previous two games. Not exactly shocking, but neat nonetheless. What's shocking is where we'll play Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel when it arrives this fall: Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Despite the Xbox One and PlayStation 4... ya know, existing, the next majorBorderlands game apparently isn't headed their way. That said, there's one other platform that fans can snag it on: PC. And given the PC-like architecture of the new consoles, you'll forgive us if we don't feign surprise when the game eventually arrives on newer platforms.
The game's development is being handled by both the series creators at Gearbox Software and 2K's Australian arm. Thus far, the only footage available is pre-Alpha (read: early), but, well, it looks an awful lot like the Borderlands games you already know and love. Perhaps you don't already know and love the series? We've got a trailer below the break that'll help get you up to speed.

When Phil Spencer was appointed the new head of Xbox following the departure of longtime lead Marc Whitten, he promised a re-focus on gaming across all Microsoft platforms. That wasn't a huge surprise, of course -- most folks know Spencer as the Microsoft Studios guy; the guy who makes game deals; the guy who speaks at E3 about games during Microsoft's keynote. While that's all accurate, Spencer is also a longtime Microsoft employee, starting as a programmer and working his way up. In an interview with Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, Spencer detailed that 26 year history and how it led him to the lofty position he's in today.
Beyond the history lesson, Spencer teased out at least one juicy tidbit: "we've got a game we haven't announced yet, we're gonna show on stage at E3." Unannounced games at E3? Get right out! Joking aside, he said it's got a "fantastic setting" and a "soulful" feeling (comparisons were made to indie darlings Limboand Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons). Color us intrigued.
Join us below for a bulleted list of quick facts about the man charged with running Microsoft's gaming division, and the full video interview from Microsoft.

he first Titanfall Xbox 360 review scores have been published online to coincide with the game's release this week.
While the outsourced Xbox 360 edition was originally due to launch alongside the Respawn-developed Xbox One and PC versions on March 11, the shooter's release date was delayed twice, most recently to April 8 in North America and April 11 in Europe.
Bluepoint's Daryl Allison, senior producer on the game, said last weekthat Titanfall on Xbox 360 "is the true experience", and going on early reviews critics tend to agree.
Our colleagues at OXM scored the game 9/10, the same as the Xbox One version, saying: "Bluepoint kicks anxiety to the curb with a smart, efficient port, that's fundamentally the same as Titanfall on Xbox One. If you can't afford a new console, save your pocket money for this."
Game Informer's 9/10 review says: "The 360 version of Titanfall holds up well as an overall experience, even though it is undoubtedly the worst way to experience the game, reflected in a quarter-point drop in score compared to the Xbox One and PC versions... Players who have not yet made the jump to a high-end PC or new-gen console have a competent way to play one of this year's most exciting games, and that's a chance that shouldn't be missed by quibbling over visual hang-ups."
Xbox Achievements awards the game 88/100. "There's a lot to be said for the inherently fun, shooty mech action that Titanfall has to offer, and considering this was touted as a next-gen experience, you can get the effectively same on your 360 for all intents and purposes. Kudos, Bluepoint."
