It's surprising, perhaps even amazing: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is currently listed as releasing today on the Xbox One Store in the US, despite Activision's dithering and seeming postponement two weeks ago. Beenox's adventure is on the Xbox Games Store priced $60, and some players have apparently alreadypurchased, downloaded and started playing it on Xbox One. We've reached out to Activision to clarify what's going on.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2's arrival on Xbox One was, much like Peter Parker, up in the air after Activision wouldn't commit to the game being on the system at launch. "We are working with Microsoft in an effort to release The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game on Xbox One," the publisher told Joystiq in a statement on April 17. "Currently, the game will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS and the PC on April 29, 2014 as previously announced."
It's a curious situation: There's been no official word from Activision yet about the Xbox One version releasing today, and Xbox One boxes and logos remain unseen on the game's official site. Meanwhile, retailers Amazon and GameStophave it listed to release on July 1.

Microsoft will launch the Xbox One in China this September, following the Chinese government's decision in January to lift its ban on the sale of foreign video game consoles. The ban stood for 14 years, and with its dismissal China crafted new rules to regulate console and game distribution.
Among those rules is the requirement for foreign companies to work with local organizations to produce consoles within the Shanghai Free Trade Zone, which Microsoft can fulfill thanks to its partnership with Chinese media company BesTV. The Xbox One manufacturer teamed up with BesTV in September 2013to create E-Home Entertainment. Microsoft holds a 49 percent stake in E-Home and BesTV holds 51 percent, both combining to invest $237 million. E-Home Entertainment plans to establish an "innovation program" that will foster Chinese development on Xbox One.
Microsoft launched the Xbox One in 13 regions in November and announced plans last month to bring the system to 26 more markets in September (with China now making that 27).

EA DICE has issued a new cross-platform update for its competitive first-person shooter Battlefield 4, fixing a widely reported multiplayer glitch and introducing the Rent-A-Server program for console players.
Announced last month, EA's Rent-A-Server program gives console owners control over in-game parameters like friendly fire, team balance, map rotation, and regenerating health during multiplayer matches. Rent-A-Server prices range from $1.49 for one-day access to $59.99 for a 90-day rental. Currently, the service is temporarily unavailable on the Xbox One as EA investigates post-launch issues.
This week's update additionally patches out a reported "Death Shield" glitch, which would envelop killed players with an invisible bullet-blocking shield in Battlefield 4's multiplayer component. The fix is available now across all platforms.

Skype's group calling functionality is now available for free to Xbox One, PC and Mac users, Microsoft has confirmed, allowing up to ten people to take part in a single call session.
Previously, group video calling was only available to Xbox One users with an Xbox Live Gold membership.
"For the last few years, we've offered group video calling to Premium users on Windows desktop and Mac and more recently Xbox One," Microsoft explained on the Skype blog, "today, we're excited to announce that we're making group video calling free - for all users on these platforms. And, in the future, we'll be enabling group video calling for all our users across more platforms - at no cost."
The company added: "Now that Skype group video calling is available to everyone, free of charge, it makes our group conversations even easier! Group video calling enables so many important shared experiences, like my cycling team's regular training check-ins and catch-ups."
Microsoft acquired Skype for a reported $8.5 billion (£5b) in 2011, and went on to launch the service for Xbox 360, as well as replace its Windows Messenger platform with it.

Microsoft will begin releasing its own branded video content this June with the launch of Xbox Originals.

April 26th, 2014, 02:11 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft CFO Amy Hood has told investors that there will be a "channel inventory drawdown for Xbox consoles".
An inventory drawdown is the process of reducing the amount of available inventory of a product which, asGamasutra points out, implies that Microsoft has produced more Xbox consoles than it is currently able to sell.
Hood added that the company “expects to work through some inventory” in the current quarter.
In other words, supply is outstripping demand, in which case Microsodft would halt manufacturing of Xbox consoles until demand once again overtakes available hardware supplies.
Microsoft confirmed this morning that it had sold 2m Xbox consoles in the quarter ending March 31st, 1.2m of which were Xbox Ones.
The numbers also revealed that Sony in the same period sold just shy of 3m PS4s.

With today's update 4.1, Unreal Engine 4 is available to developers at no additional charge on PS4 and Xbox One. Epic is running Unreal Engine 4 as asubscription-based service, for $19 a month and 5 percent of gross revenue from any commercial product made with the engine.
Unreal Engine 4 already runs on PS4 and Xbox One, but today's update makes it easier for new developers to secure a license on these consoles. Microsoft notes that now its independent developers in the ID@Xbox program can access Unreal Engine 4. Developers must still register with Sony and Microsoft; see the rundown of registration steps here.
With update 4.1, Unreal Engine 4 now supports previous- and current-gen consoles, PC, Mac, SteamOS, Linux, iOS, Android, Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus.

A Call of Duty player has had his house raided by a US SWAT team after a prank call from a defeated opponent.
New York Post reports that over 60 armed officers and a helicopter were called to a Long Beach home after a telephone tip-off claiming that hoax victim, 17 year old Rafael Castillo, had “just killed his mother and might shoot more people”.
Police had gathered outside of the property and spent 20 minutes trying to summon Castillo, who remained oblivious as he was wearing headphones and still playing the game.
Castillo later told police that a defeated opponent in a game of Call of Duty had “threatened to SWAT him”.
‘Swatting’ is the term used by some for tricking the emergency services into attending a fictional crime scene.
Police – who surely mistakenly reckon that the hoaxer was able to determine Castillo’s home address via his IP address – say they are attempting to locate the hoaxer “by tracing his electronic footprints”.

April 24th, 2014, 23:47 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft has reported profits of around $5.66 billion for the third quarter of its fiscal year 2014, ended March 31.
Revenues in the quarter were roughly $20.40 billion, during which the firm sold 2 million Xbox consoles total, with Xbox One accounting for 1.2 million.
The Devices and Consumer Hardware division, which umbrellas Xbox, clocked revenues of $1.97 billion in the quarter, and $8.19 billion in the nine months ended March 31, up from $1.4 billion and $5.29 billion respectively the prior year.
"This quarter's results demonstrate the strength of our business, as well as the opportunities we see in a mobile-first, cloud-first world," said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in a prepared statement.
"We are making good progress in our consumer services like Bing and Office 365 Home, and our commercial customers continue to embrace our cloud solutions. Both position us well for long-term growth. We are focused on executing rapidly and delivering bold, innovative products that people love to use."
Microsoft last week announced that Xbox One shipments have exceeded 5 million units since it launched in November, but held off releasing actual sales figures. This number is some 2 million short of the 7 million PlayStation 4 units Sony says it has sold through to consumers since its relative November release.
Microsoft said that 311,000 Xbox One units were sold in the US in the month of March, putting its latest system 60 percent ahead of Xbox 360 at the same point in their respective life cycles, despite remaining second to PS4 in the US hardware sales charts for three consecutive months.

You can now buy an Xbox One console and FIFA 14 for £329 at UK retailer Overclockers - that's £100 cheaper than the console's original £429 launch price.
The deal, posted to Twitter by Trade in Detectives, doesn't seem to be time-limited.Microsoft cut the UK price of Xbox One to £399.99 back in February and bundled in a free copy of the highly-anticipated Titanfall.Amazon and UK supermarket Asda then went a step further and dropped the price of the Titanfall bundle another £50 - down to £349.99 - a price that's still available.Microsoft announced last week it had now shipped 5 million Xbox One consoles to retailers worldwide. By comparison, Sony has sold 7 million PlayStation 4 consoles to customers.

The Xbox One price war rages on as GAME has become the first retailer to break the sub-£300 barrier (pre-owned, at least).
GAME has slashed the price of a pre-owned Xbox One to just £299.99, well below the retailer's £329.99 asking price for a second-hand PS4.
It's also a massive £100 discount over the already cut £399.999 RRP of a brand new Xbox One, which was introduced by Microsoft in March with the launch of the Titanfall bundle.
Advertised as daily deal, the discount isn't likely to last long. Unless, of course, other retailers jump on the band wagon and offer similarly aggressive discounts.

The Xbox One launches in Japan on September 4, Microsoft announced this morning. The company didn't disclose a launch price or which launch titles to expect, but there are just over 40 confirmed Xbox One games for the country, including Titanfall, Kingdom Hearts 3, Final Fantasy 15 and Sunset Overdrive.
Japan was previously confirmed as one of 26 territories expecting the system in September, but the other 25 remain without a concrete release date. The Xbox One launched in 13 regions back in November 2013, in which Microsoft has shipped 5 million units to date.

FBI raids three homes recently, arresting those trading in Xbox One Secrets
We reported before on SuperDAE story and his Xbox One devkit raids, but now the fallout from that has moved from Australia to state-side, with FBI rounding up three hackers, one of them from Canada
You might remember the SuperDAE stories from over a year ago, with him listing early Xbox One dev-kits up for sale on eBay, and then later him getting arrested, and threatening to release info which never happen, but now the FBI have rounded up some more 'hackers' that were trading in Xbox One devkits, and passing info among themselves.
One of people arrested in New Jersey is better known on many 'scene' forum sites like XboxHacker as 'SonicISO' and was originally the Admin behind the very popular E3-Forums for E3 Flasher and their ODE device before it was suddenly shutdown earlier this year.
A New Jersey man, a Wisconsin teen and a man from Canada are facing more than a dozen charges for allegedly breaking into computer systems and stealing sensitive information belonging to the U.S. Army and other companies, including Microsoft.
Obtained and partially published Thursday by The Smoking Gun, the indictment - still sealed, but filed in U.S. District Court in Delaware - charges Sanadodeh Nesheiwat, 28, from New Jersey; Nathan Leroux, 19, from Wisconsin, and Canadian resident David Pokora.
The men are alleged, beginning in 2011, to have begun a roughly two-year cyber crusade against video game companies, during which time they identified and exploited vulnerabilities in computer systems belonging to Microsoft, Valve Corporation, Activision Blizzard, Zombie Studios, and Epic Games, according to a report.
The Microsoft breach enabled the alleged attackers to steal information on the then unreleased Xbox One, according to published pages of the indictment, which explain that the perpetrators were able to use that data to build counterfeit versions of the console, including one that was sold on eBay for $5,000.
Intrusions into the computer systems of companies such as Epic Games and Activision Blizzard allowed the attackers to steal early copies of "Gears of War 3" and "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3," two blockbuster titles that had yet to be released at the time, according to the report.
Also, Apache helicopter pilot simulation software designed for the U.S. Army was stolen from Zombie Studios, a company commissioned by the American military organization to develop the chopper training program, the report added.
The men are facing 15 felony charges, including multiple counts of wire fraud, three counts of unauthorized computer access, two counts of copyright infringement, and one count each of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to commit theft of trade secrets, conspiracy to commit mail fraud, attempted mail fraud, conspiracy to commit identity theft, and aggravated identity theft.
The indictment was returned by a grand jury in July and Nesheiwat and Leroux were arrested at their respective homes last week, according to the report, which adds that the status of Pokora was undetermined at the time.

The problem with Internet today is so easy to spread misinformation
Sadly the recent breaking news story of the Xbox One console being hacked already to run 'homebrew' was FALSE and full of 'misinformation' and many scene sites have posted even more misinformation
Recently, we posted an Xbox One Hacking story which we found on another normally good news site, but we quickly pulled it after we check the original sources and people involved and found it to be filled with misinformation and false facts in regard to the XB1 console and exploit.
Here is a recent forum post made by one of those mentioned on the 'other sites' that was quoted in the chat log out of context:
Since the original site posted the pastebin of supposed conversation from #xbonehack of efnet of me talking about the implied acquisition of private keys I have tried as hard as possible to get that site, along with others to remove the rumors. As you might have seen, others had confirmed this conversation did not exist in said channel.
I feel it is necessary now to post that the information in those logs was in fact misinformation, unfortunately out of context and misleading.
There is no current xbone exploit, or keys found, or anything that I am aware of.
Please disregard all rumors regarding this information. I am politely asking all sites who have posted these rumors to please remove the news posts as the information is false.
We agree with the above poster, and hope other sites reading this will add an disclaimer to their Xbox One Hacking Story or remove it totally, and help stop spreading more misinformation on the Internet, just because one site quotes the other does not make it true!

Update: At the time of writing Newegg had the bundle at $450, but it seems that time has gone and it's now $500. However, it still comes with both Titanfalland Forza bundled in.
If you're searching for Easter Xbox One deals, you might want to try a Newegghunt. A new $450 $500 deal chucks in two games rather than one: For a limited time you can get the console with both a boxed copy of Titanfall and a download code for Forza Motorsport 5.
The system's regular price remains $500, although the Microsoft Store is still offering the Titanfall bundle for $450 - that "limited time" offer has been going for nearly a month.

The next chapter of Disney Infinity will not launch in August 2014, according to a correction published by official Disney Fan Club D23.
A section of D23's April 15 news briefs stated that "Disney Infinity 2.0 is coming in August 2014," and went on to link to a previously releasedteaser trailer for Marvel heroes joining the franchise-crossing game.
"In D23′s News Briefs published April 15, 2014, we erroneously reported about the launch of the next chapter of Disney Infinity," the correction read. "This information was incorrect. More news about Disney Infinity will be shared [at Disney's reveal event scheduled] on April 30, and we hope you will check back for that update."
The aforementioned teaser trailer shows Captain America's shield bouncing across Disney Infinity's cartoon landscape, aiding various characters from the previous game.
Reports circulating in February claimed that Star Wars characters would also appear in the miniature-enabled game franchise. Disney owns both Marvel and Star Wars creator Lucasfilm
Disney Infinity sold more than 3 million units worldwide as of January, making it the 10th best-selling US retail game in 2013.

Xbox One selling 60 percent better than Xbox 360 at same point in time, Microsoft says
With the release of the March NPD data, which revealed EA's Titanfall as the top selling game of the month, Microsoft boasted about the game's success and the sales of Xbox One hardware. While Microsoft congratulated EA and developer Respawn, none of the companies involved have revealed exactly how much Titanfall actually sold.
Meanwhile, Microsoft announced that with Xbox One selling 311,000 units in March, the new console has passed 5 million units sold-in (shipped) to retail.
"The new generation is off to a strong start, with global Xbox One sales outpacing Xbox 360 by more than 60 percent at the same point in time, a true testament to your love of console gaming," said Xbox corporate vice president Yusuf Mehdi. "Even more important to us is how much fun you are having on Xbox One. It's amazing that Xbox One fans are spending an average of five hours per day on Xbox One and collectively have totaled more than one billion hours of time spent in games and apps on the console."
"We're also thrilled to see your use and enjoyment of the latest features and apps we have released as part of our regular system updates. In particular, we broke new usage records with the number of unique Twitch broadcasters in the first week of availability," Mehdi continued. "Of course, we're just getting started with this generation and the months ahead will bring several announcements we think you'll love. The team will continue to deliver regular improvements and new features based on your feedback through frequent system updates. Many more games are on the way with titles like Sunset Overdrive and Project Spark, many new games coming to Xbox One through the ID@Xbox program, and many more entertainment experiences. We can't wait to share more games with you in June at E3."

GameStop is celebrating spring with an Easter Weekend event, offering a "buy 2 get 1" on a select stock of used games. The promotion begins today at all GameStop retail locations across the United States and online. The deal comes with certain stipulations, however: only games priced under $20 are eligible, with the free title coming at equal or lesser value.
Though the promotion undoubtedly means PS4 and Xbox One titles are off the table, previous generation software is up for grabs. According to GameStop, the company "has recently reduced a large percentage of games from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 libraries to $20 or less."
The promotion ends on Sunday, April 20.
