EA has unveiled two new car packs representing Jaguar and Ferrari for its hit arcade racer Need for Speed: Rivals, though arguably more intriguing is what the publisher isn't telling us.
The Ferrari pack (highlighted in the trailer above) features the 1987 edition of the Ferrari F40 alongside 1995's F50. The Jaguar pack also includes two cars, the Jaguar XJ220 supercar and the C-X75 prototype, a hybrid-electric coupe that Jaguar describes as "the ultimate expression of the brand's design and engineering innovation." Both of these car packs feature a $6 price tag.
Immediately following the above reveal, EA dropped a not so subtle hint that these may not be the only new cars joining the racing game this month. "[T]hese aren't the only new cars that will be hitting the streets of Redview County in the coming weeks," the publisher's announcement states, before urging players to keep an eye on the official Need for Speed: Rivals Facebookaccount.

Remember that Xbox One ad full of mechs, soccer players, and Zachary Quinto? If you're a resident of the UK, you may also remember it for its strange, half-second image of a skull, a X-shaped symbol and a seemingly random string of letters. Xbox's UK division has just what was behind the mysterious imagery: an augmented reality game. You can take the red pill watch the reveal above.
The augmented reality game (ARG for short) put forward a number of clues to be decoded, including a string of binary code, websites in Latin, images that needed to be rearranged and sound-based puzzles. The treasure hunt culminated in a grab-bag of Xbox One prizes, including the console itself, a Collector's Edition of Titanfall, and a VIP trip to the US.
Said prizes were placed in an unmarked, white van in a secluded area, because nothing screams "come get your special prize" quite like an unmarked, white van in a secluded area. (We're relatively sure that part was staged considering winner Brad Butcher looks straight at a camera focusing on him, but still.) Congrats Brad!

Unlike the free-to-play, mobile lawn defense simulator, Plants vs. Zombies 2, microtransactions aren't planned for the launch of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare.
In an interview with GameSpot, PopCap producer Brian Lindley stated thatGarden Warfare won't have microtransactions "at launch," but noted that PopCap will watch in-game metrics and fan reaction to determine where to take the game next.
We can only guess as to what those plans may be, but hopefully they aren't comparable to the temporary "test" of charging to spawn new lawnmowers inPvZ2, as reported by GameSpot.

Microsoft is banking on EA’s Titanfall to help Xbox One fight back against PS4.
The Xbox and PC shooter was available as a beta to gamers this week, and has received significant praise from critics and fans. As a result, retailers have told MCV that there’s been a ‘dramatic spike’ in Titanfall interest, with The Hut Group reporting a 30 per cent surge in pre-orders.
It comes at a crucial time for Xbox One, which continues to trail PlayStation 4 in the UK, and the gap is widening each week.
“Titanfall is something new, impactful and a game that I’ve never seen before,” Xbox VP Phil Harrison told MCV previously. “So I am very confident that this is going to be a big, big system seller. Every generation sees a new IP explode in a powerful way, and right now I would say Titanfall has a big chance.”
EA and Xbox are now teaming up on what is expected to be the biggest marketing campaign of the year so far for an individual video game.
Titanfall will receive a triple-A TV campaign over its launch on March 14th, accompanied by a ‘highly targeted’ cinema push. This is on top of major promotion across social media, search engines and through the Xbox One dashboard.
Titanfall arrives on PC and Xbox One on March 14th, with an Xbox 360 version set for March 28th.

Spinal's introduction to the Killer Instinct roster hasn't been as smooth as Microsoft would've hoped. After adding the character and a new "Jail" feature, where players who habitually disconnect from online matches get paired up with similarly unstable brawlers, players started experiencing consistent game crashes. An upcoming patch from Double Helix hopes to mitigate these issues.
Double Helix says all Killer Instinct "Jail" stats will be wiped by the patch, and that the designated threshold for tossing a player in jail will be raised. Another bug where both players would be sent to "Jail," even when only one of them purposefully disconnected, will be squashed.
This patch will also fix Spinal's teleportation move, a major cause for the game crashes and de-synchronization that has plagued online matches recently. A bug preventing players from retaining progress will also be addressed and perfectly executing an Ultra Combo will soon guarantee a match win in Killer Instinct.
Double Helix hasn't said exactly when this patch will be available on Xbox One.Killer Instinct's next and final season one character, Fulgore, is due in March. Hopefully his addition doesn't yield as many issues as his boney post-launch counterpart.

After a delayed raid, squad-based first-person shooter Takedown: Red Sabre is out now on the Xbox Games Store, priced $15 in North America and £12/15 euros across the ocean.
The Kickstarted shooter from Washington-based indie Serellan was originally due to hit both Windows PC and Xbox 360 last year, but the developer had to delay the console version because it didn't pass certification requirements. That was fixed, but Serellan chose to hold the XBLA game back to add in post-launch improvements made to the PC version. The newly released XBLA version also features the free DLC that was added post-launch, and that includes a range of new maps as well as some additional weaponry to mow one another down with.

Microsoft rejected Rime, the colorful action RPG from Deadlight studio Tequila Works, before the team signed a PS4-exclusive deal with Sony, VG Leaks reports, citing a series of Microsoft pitch documents. Microsoft Studios Corporate VP Phil Spencer considers this decision a missed opportunity, according to a few of his tweets.
The Microsoft pitch describes Rime as "Gauntlet meets Minecraft meets Jason and the Argonauts." Tequila Works sought partial funding from Microsoft and estimated the cost of developing Rime for XBLA at $3 million. The game would have been "fully exclusive" to XBLA. Rime, which was originally called Echoes of Siren, is a third-person crafting, survival, open-world action game first announced at Sony's Gamescom press conference as a PS4 exclusive.
Asked on Twitter why Microsoft rejected Rime, Spencer said, "Part of job is living with mistakes. Passed on Guitar Hero ... I can list many misses regretfully. I try to focus on what we did ship."
A second user tweeted at Spencer, suggesting that Xbox One could use a game like Rime. Spencer replied, "We'll miss some, nature of the beast, it's why I don't hate when games ship elsewhere. Cool to see team's idea turn into [a] great game."

Monolith Productions is doing "whatever we can" to ensure feature parity between the Xbox 360, PS3 versions of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and the Xbox One, PS4 offerings. But the developer admits this may be an impossibility and reveals the game's core hook, the Nemesis system driving its procedurally-generated enemies, will likely lack some complexity on Xbox 360 and PS3 when the game launches this year.
"To break it down, some of the stuff we're pretty confident will still be very similar on current gen: the core mechanics, like combat, stealth, ranged and movements; the basic control and gameplay, that should all be really solid," Monolith Design Director Michael De Plater told IGN. "What it won't have is the same level of depth and variety and simulation within the 'Nemesis system.'" De Plater added that the Nemesis system is "just so huge in terms of content, calculations and AI we'll just have to try and get as much of it in as we can."
The Nemesis system is the mechanic driving Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor's core gameplay loop. Protagonist Talion, on a mission of revenge, explores Mordor and isolates Orcs in order to extract information on Sauron's army. This information reveals not only Orc hierarchy, but also the vulnerabilities and strengths of individual Orc commanders, each of which are procedurally-generated by the game.
We were able to go in-depth with Shadow of Mordor's Nemesis system last month, though admittedly all we saw was the next-gen version running on a high-end PC. Monolith was unwilling to discuss the planned Xbox 360 and PS3 versions at the time.

Street Fighter IV has been added to Virgin Gaming’s real-money multiplayer roster.
PS3 and Xbox 360 players are now able to compete for cash via the service in 1v1 battles in 32-player leagues.
It involves a relatively convoluted process requiring use of both the Virgin website and in-game menu system, and results have to be manually uploaded (taking a picture with your cameraphone is recommended).
“I’m proud to announce our partnership with Virgin Gaming, which will allow players to compete with one another for not only pride, but for money as well,” Capcom’s Peter Rosas wrote on the Capcom Unity website.
“As a child of the arcade era, there was something special about each win I’d earn while on the Street Fighter II cabinet. Since each game was pay to play, every win felt that much more euphoric as I watched my defeated opponent have to pony up more money, whereas each loss stung that much more as I felt my pockets running out of coins.
“Essentially something more than pride was on the line each game, and that made everyone play all that much harder. With the advent of free online play, it’s been difficult putting something on the line other than pride… until now.”

Select Xbox One owners will be invited to install and test system updates early starting Thursday.
Xbox Live director of programming Larry Hryb announced that some users will receive an Xbox Live message which includes a code to register. Those who sign up will receive early access to the friends-focused March system update starting next week.
Early access users can test out the March update's changes to friend and chat functionality, detailed below, and share comments and concerns on a private forum. Registered users will continue to receive early access to Xbox One system updates unless they opt out of the program.
An Xbox One system update distributed on February 11 gave users the ability to manage storage, improved Kinect voice commands, and added several "behind-the-scenes updates." It also added a battery indicator for controllers.[h=3]Xbox One March update features[/h] - Get to your Friends List faster. The friends list will be front and centre on the homepage of the Friends app. Click the Social tile on Home, or say "Xbox, go to Friends" to see who's online and what they're up to. From there you can quickly send messages and get into a party.
- Party chat will be turned on by default: When you party up, chat audio will be turned on by default.
- Chat with friends playing different games: Party chat will be separated from people playing your game, so you can chat with your friends who are online or you can chat with everyone playing the game.
- We're adding an "Invite friends to game" option to your multiplayer titles moving forward: Similar to Xbox 360 titles, this will appear inside a game's menu and offer a simple and quicker way to set up your multiplayer battles. Selecting "Invite friends" will let you invite friends to your game and party.
- We're adding "Recent Players": This is a simple list that shows you Xbox Live members you've recently played with, making it easier to stay in touch with people, or add new friends after your multiplayer battles.

Microsoft's cloud-based media sharing app OneDrive - formerly known as SkyDrive prior to a trademark dispute with British Sky Broadcasting Group - will grant achievements for avid users of the app.As detailed on the Xbox Wire, the achievement "Week one winner" is granted to those who open OneDrive in its first week on Xbox One, while "Long exposure" goes to those who view 100,000 photos, and "Hope those aren't all selfies" is awarded to users who view 10 photos from their camera roll. There's even an achievement for watching five hours of slideshows called "On a roll."OneDrive is universal across Xbox One, Windows Phone, iOS and Android and allows users to share their media across all platforms as well as upload clips of gameplay.A default OneDrive account comes with 7GB of storage, but Microsoft just started a promotion where enabling a camera roll backup rewards users with an extra 3GB of storage, while referring others to the app nets a bonus 500MB per person with a 5GB cap. Thus die hard consumers can upgrade their initial 7GB all the way to 15GB if they're diligent enough.

Co-op action role-playing game Sacred 3 will release on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 this summer.
Publisher and developer Deep Silver released a CGI reveal trailer along with the news on Wednesday. The trailer shows a team of heroes working together to ambush a monstrous convoy and rescue its prisoner.
Deep Silver brand manager Remy van Leeuwen said cooperation between the game's five revealed character classes in two-player local co-op and four-player online co-op was a guiding force in its development.
"The paramount development goal for Sacred 3 has been to create a seamless online and offline co-op experience," van Leeuwen said in a release. "By creating a game built around the central concept of co-op gameplay, we're expanding the series to new audiences without compromising the rich lore and fantasy of the Sacred universe."
Deep Silver purchased the rights to the Sacred series after original developer Ascaron Entertainment entered administration in April 2009. Publisher Kalypso Media purchased the majority of Ascaron's other franchises and a majority stake in Gaming Minds Studio, which was founded by former Ascaron staffers.

A glitch that had appeared in the UK TV ad for Xbox One at the end of last month has been revealed as a competition.
A one-second disruption was apparently inserted into the ‘Invitation’ TV short in January. That one second contained 25 frames, in which were hidden a series of coded clues.
The glitch ad first aired at midday and by the evening has already been mentioned several times on Twitter. It was solved just 36 hours later. The ultimate winner won a Day One Xbox One and various other goodies, including a trip to LA for the Titanfall launch party.
“This campaign was designed with community engagement at its heart,” Microsoft’s Xbox EMEA social marketing manager Graeme Boyd said. “[It] was built around our most popular Xbox games, encouraging gamers to work together, solve clues and ultimately discover big prizes.
“With the excellent work from our agency partners, the Xbox Glitch has reinforced Xbox One as the home for gamers.”

Call of Duty might be popular, but do you know what it hasn’t got? Robots, that’s what.
I have to admit – I was wary approaching the recently announced beta for Titanfall, the upcoming first-person mech-shooter from developer Respawn Entertainment, a studio formed by some of the creators of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare franchise.
My wariness was due to the tie between the insanely popular military FPS and the studio – I burned out on Call of Duty’s particular brand of rapid-paced multiplayer matches a few years ago and haven’t felt inclined to return to the series since.
But, having loaded into my first match of Titanfall, I was instantly won over.
It does share some similarities with Call of Duty – you unlock new weapons, Titans and abilities by gaining progressive levels, and post-death killcams entertainingly show you which 20-foot high robot or pinpoint-accurate sniper took you down this time – but beyond that, Titanfall is by every mark its own game.
Movement is versatile and freeform – as a pilot you can wallrun and vault a la Mirror’s Edge, and even give yourself a little boost in the air using a double-jump.
The changes are minor, but make a big difference. The Titans are surprisingly nimble, meaning that the pilots’ added mobility skills help them even the playing field.
Matches consist of six players on each team, for a total of 12 overall. However, every player can call in their Titan after a given amount of time – reduced with each enemy kill or objective completion – and choose to either jump in and control it themselves, or let it stand guard or follow them around, meaning that 12 players and 12 Titans could possibly be running around the map at any one time.
