According to Microsoft product director Albert Penello, external drive support for the Xbox One has always been on the company's docket to enable in a future update. That refresh looks to be on the horizon after an unnamed Xbox developer took to Reddit to tease an image showing that very feature in action. Members of the Xbox One preview programme are often privy to early features, which have recently included improved Party Chat and manual checks for system updates, but this leak will likely attract the most attention. Although the Xbox One ships with a 500GB internal hard drive, blockbuster games can command 50GB without breaking a sweat. That game storage, of course, adds up over time. Attaching an additional drive will not only stop you from running out of space, it'll also stop you from voiding your warranty with a do-it-yourself replacement.

Fable Legends will have "huge presence" at E3, according to Lionhead.
Speaking at a UK press event on Monday, studio head John Needham said of the Xbox One RPG: ""Fable Legends is an exciting title that's really fun already. We're building it with Unreal Engine 4 and that combined with Xbox One has resulted in us building I think one of the most beautiful games on the platform.
"We're super busy at the studio gearing up for E3. We're going to have a huge presence there. You can come to our booth and play. "
Announced in August 2013 during Microsoft's Gamescom showcase event, Fable Legends will feature co-operative gameplay for up to four players.
Lionhead has described the launch version of Fable Legends as "season one" of the game, with plans to evolve the title over five to ten years.
Although Fable Legends will feature a strong online component, Lionhead has said it's "not an MMO" and can be played offline in single-player.
"You can play with other people in a four-player cooperative experience. Your party could be all human players, or a mix of players and AI-controlled Heroes," the studio explained last August.
"You can switch easily between single player and multiplayer styles of play whenever you decide, or when a friend signs on. During a quest, you can elect to battle a human or an AI Villain."
Legends will also include "mini-games, pub games, and similar activities", some of which may use Kinect motion controls.
Lionhead has said that Fable Legends is the "only core Fable game" in development, with no sequel to Fable 3 planned. A Fable Legends beta test is planned for 2014.

Completely redesigned method of glitching. 4x faster code than previous versions and booting is twice as fast as the fastest glitchers available – yes, including R-JTAG and Slim Proto. Incredibly stable – we glitched the worst boxes we could find in less than 3 cycles (even with Slim Proto or CR3 Pro they wouldn't boot AT ALL). 95% of boxes instaboot.
Not to mention this thing is now TINY !
We have also cracked the Corona v6 Winbond 2KB No-Glitch problem – this bad boy crushes it with no effort.
This is it ladies & gentleman. If you want the best in your 360, accept no substitute. If you are taking your box to a pro installer, demand a CR4. If you are a pro installer – we will make sure you get great bulk discounts – don't rip your customers off with crappy mods and charging them top dollar.
Testing this final prototype right now then should go to production by next month.

Microsoft has revealed a new color variant for the Xbox 360 controller - Arctic Camouflage.
Covered in camp colors that "mimic snow-covered environments" - a mix of white and various tones of grey - and a small Xbox 360 insignia on its left handle, the controller was revealed on the official Xbox website on Friday.
There's no specific release date for the new color - the official site has it listed as 'coming soon', with a price tag of $54.99.
While the Arctic Camo marks the latest in a long line of Xbox 360 controller variations, Xbox fans will no doubt be more keen to hear when the firm will release Xbox One consoles and controllers in colors other than the current black SKU.
According to rumors earlier this year, Microsoft will be releasing a white version of the Xbox One in October.
A small number of White Xbox One units were initially provided for Microsoft employees involved with the console's development. The consoles came with all the launch-day first-party games, a special achievement and the words 'I made this' etched next to the disc slot.
A white Xbox One was auctioned in November and raised $11,300 for charity.

The stars of the Persona series are winding up for another bout in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, which will host its brand of 2D fighting on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Ultimax won't be out until the fall, but you can plan really far in advance right now by pre-ordering the $59.99 fighter at GameStop, EB Games, Amazon, Newegg or Video Games Plus. The associated press release notes that there will be pre-order incentives, but it doesn't offer hints to what those will be, nor does it specify whether any will be exclusive to a particular retailer.
Ultimax is an expansion on 2012's Persona 4 Arena and follows the cast's participation in the P-1 Climax, a round of battles that must be conquered before the world ends. Several new characters will tag in as playable fighters, including Persona 3's Junpei Iori and Yukari Takeba, as well as Persona 4's Rise Kujikawa. There's also a debut from the crimson-haired Sho Minazuki, who will assuredly be pleasant to deal with.
Utlimax is one of four Persona games heading to the West this year, including the Vita's left-field rhythm game Persona 4: Dancing All Night and the PS3-bound Persona 5.

Those patiently waiting for the next software update for the Xbox One won't have to wait much longer. "The latest Xbox One system update has started to roll out," tweeted Xbox figurehead Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb.
The highlight of this update is new, more granular audio controls, which allow users to determine individual volume levels for apps they've snapped onto the Xbox One's main display. To put it more simply, if you're playing a game while also chatting with people on Skype, you can turn the game down, and turn the chat up, preventing your crucial conversation from being drowned out by explosions.
Additionally, the update adds a new feedback tool designed to send information directly to Microsoft from the Xbox One automatically. This program is entirely voluntary, but according to Microsoft the goal is not to snoop on players, but instead to collect audio samples which may be used to improve the console's voice recognition capabilities.
Like all Xbox One updates, Microsoft plans to gradually issue this new software version to users. While some will find the update available at this very moment, others may have to wait a few hours or even a day. According to Hryb, the update should be available to everyone by early next week. Full details on the update can be found on Hryb's official blog.

The newly christened Halo 5: Guardians is coming to Xbox One in fall 2015, giving dev 343 Industries time to ensure it has "the scope, features, and scale we've been dreaming of for more than a decade." Those are the words of GM Bonnie Ross who, ahead of a one-and-a-half years wait, underlined the efforts going into ensuring the Chief's Xbox One adventure fits the bill in 60 frames per second, and with dedicated servers for multiplayer.
"Halo 5: Guardians is a bigger effort than Halo 4," Ross wrote on Xbox Wire. "That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what's now a brand new and more powerful engine. Certainly there are some core elements carried over from prior games, but we've invested a huge effort in retooling our tech to take full advantage of the Xbox One's hardware and ecosystem to create worlds and experiences worthy of next-gen."

No, that isn’t a scene from a horror movie up there, it’s [Oliver Kreylos'] avatar in a 3D office environment. If he looks a bit strange, it’s because he’s wearing an Oculus Rift, and his image is being stitched together from 3 Microsoft Kinect cameras.
[Oliver] has created a 3D environment which is incredibly realistic, at least to the wearer. He believes the secret is in the low latency of the entire system. When coupled with a good 3D environment, like the office shown above, the mind is tricked into believing it is really in the room. [Oliver] mentions that he finds himself subconsciously moving to avoid bumping into a table leg that he knows isn’t there. In [Oliver's] words, “It circumnavigates the uncanny valley“.
Instead of pulling skeleton data from the 3 Kinect cameras, [Oliver] is using video and depth data. He’s stitching and processing this data on an i7 Linux box with an Nvidia Geforce GTX 770 video card. Powerful hardware for sure, but not the cutting edge monster rig one might expect. [Oliver] also documented his software stack. He’s using Vrui VR Toolkit, the Kinect 3D Video Capture Project, and the Collaboration Infrastructure.
We can’t wait to see what [Oliver] does when he gets his hands on the Kinect One (and some good Linux drivers for it).

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare developer Sledgehammer has revealed that it worked on the cancelled third person Call of Duty titles for up to eight months.
Indeed, so impressed was Activision with the Vietnam-themed 10-15 slice of the game that the team created that it offered the studio to jump ship over to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to help out the then-troubled Infinity Ward, which was enduring an exodus of talent in the wake of the Zampella and West scandal.
That, however, meant time was called on the project.
“We had spent at least six to eight months on it. I was really getting into the story. We had some really cool mechanics,” Sledgehammer co-founder Glen Schofield told Game Informer.
“We had the underground tunnels. We were definitely getting some Dead Space moments. I don’t mean that from sci-fi, I mean that was a war that was scary for the [American soldiers]. They didn’t know if in the jungle there was a booby trap, or what was in those tunnels. And there were thousands of miles of tunnel underground. It was a hidden war, right? Everybody thought the war was in Vietnam, but it was in Cambodia and Laos. So we were telling a cool story.
“When [Activision] needed help on Modern Warfare 3 we were the first ones to get it because we had already proven ourselves within six months that we could dive in, learn the lore of the game, understand the rules, and build something that was different.”
Fellow co-founder Michael Condrey added: “Let’s be frank, Infinity Ward was going through some transition. We were growing with a triple-A team here, and the chance to work on the biggest game at that time and this fiction and space was super exciting for us.
“We would’ve loved to have made [the third-person Call of Duty]. It was in a space that we enjoyed, but how does anything compare to the first-person blockbuster release of 2011?”
Nonetheless, Schofield admits that the concept is one he remains interested in revisiting, stating: “If they ever asked us to a make a third-person Call of Duty game I’d go back to what we were doing.”

The fact that gamers “have been more satisfied with the Xbox 360 than PS3” is part of the reason why PS4 has so far outsold Xbox One.
That’s according to chief marketing and strategy officer Yusuf Mehdi, who has told Forbes that there are three reasons he can identify for the fact that Sony has sold 7m PS4s and Microsoft has shipped 5m Xbox Ones.
“It’s hard to really assess the gap in sales,” he argued. “They’re in many more markets right now than we are. They’re in 40+ markets, we’re in 13.
“People have been more satisfied with the Xbox 360 than the PS3, so in that respect people have less of a need to upgrade in the short term due to regular updates for the Xbox 360. We could point to any number of things.
“That said, we’ve heard from a lot of our Xbox fans who say, ‘Hey look, I want an Xbox One, but at $499, I probably have to wait a little while before I can afford to get one.’ I do think we’re going to get people now who move over, and then buy the Kinect later.
“So I do think the [new cheaper Kinect-free SKU] broadens the appeal and hopefully brings more people to Xbox One sooner.”

Did the news of an Xbox One sans Kinect convince you that now is the time to jump on Microsoft's wagon? If so, GameStop is ready to accept you with open arms - arms that are attached to hands, which in turn will offer you a pre-order of a Kinect-free Xbox One in exchange for your money and games.
Online, you can reserve your copy of an Xbox One without Kinect for $399.99. If you need a little extra helping hand financially, you can trade in an original or 4GB Xbox 360 or 12GB PS3 and receive $75 in store credit. Trade in a 360 with 250GB or more of storage or a PS3 with 20GB or larger hard drive and you'll receive $125. PowerUp Pro members receive an additional $10.
Those so inclined to travel outside (though why would you do that - the sun is out there) can also head to their local store to pre-order. We called several GameStops across the country and were told the minimum deposit for the console-only Xbox One package is $100.

"Fixed a small issue where players could still activate the Apartment drinking activities after drinking themselves unconscious." So go the patch notes forGrand Theft Auto 5update 1.13, dubbed "High Life." And don't worry, there's more.
The High Life update, in addition to making sure players can no longer experience an alcohol-induced version of Christopher Nolan's Inception, adds five new high-end properties to own, 32 new suits for male characters, the Bullpup Rifle, new vehicles, the ability to own more than one property, and a Mental State that shows how often a potential matchmaking partner murders fellow players. Because hey, you might be a drugged-up sociopath out for nothing but the next big score, but that doesn't mean you should have to put up with mean people online.
Check out the full list of High Life changes on Rockstar's website.

Just how big is the impact of unbundling the Kinect camera from Xbox One? Analysts weigh in on the strategy
[h=3]Microsoft[/h]microsoft.com
Xbox made big waves today by announcing a cheaper version of Xbox One sans Kinect slated to go on sale for $399 on June 9. Unbundling the camera wasn't entirely unexpected, as numerous industry observers had speculated that Microsoft would make such a move to close the price gap with Sony's PS4, but the fact that Microsoft unbundled Kinect so quickly after last fall's launch did surprise some. And now that it's happening, Xbox One hardware sales could jump considerably.
IDC had already forecast Xbox One to emerge in North America with the largest installed base by 2016 (factoring in a likely Kinect unbundling) but because Microsoft acted so quickly, IDC research manager Lewis Ward told GamesIndustry International that he now believes Xbox One will surpass PS4 in the US by next year.
"This change will be enough to push the Xbox One installed base higher than PS4 in the U.S. and Canada in 2015 rather than 2016. It kind of reminds me of Microsoft's evolution on Windows and IE. The initial design needs some serious help (i.e., last summer's DRM 'Xbox 180') and then improves to point of being a serious contender (this Kinect unbundling) and then vies for market share dominance (although I continue to believe PS4 will have the largest global installed base of any console at the end of 2016)," he explained.
RW Baird analyst Colin Sebastian agrees that Xbox One sales should start ticking upwards now. "We note the Xbox One pricing action is early, by historical standards, for a relatively new video game console. However, we estimate that price cuts on the Xbox 360 in August 2007 and September 2008 each drove more than 100k incremental monthly unit sales," he said.
"Sony will need to re-group to maintain its momentum in the market with the E3 press events taking on even more significance for both companies now"
Piers Harding-Rolls
Former EEDAR analyst and current Tilting Point exec Jesse Divnich noted that consumers are still evaluating the new consoles this early in the cycle, and that Xbox One should gain some momentum from the price drop. "Early in a console's cycle, pricing has shown to correlate with install base. Later in a cycle, the strength of the software library, digital offerings, and social influences tend to have a stronger weight in the consumer decision process. As we witnessed with the PlayStation 2 to PlayStation 3 transition, being the market incumbent doesn't always give you an advantage at the start of a new console generation. It's almost as if consumers hit the reset button at the start of every cycle and re-evaluate their gaming needs from a home console," he said.
Independent analyst Billy Pidgeon added, "This is a good competitive move for Microsoft. Price is an important factor at this point in the console cycle and in the consumer market, and Kinect lacks strong value for most gamers. Xbox One without Kinect should sell strongly at $399 and could out-perform PS4 at the same price on a month to month basis, although I think market share competition between Xbox One and PS4 will remain tight for most of the cycle."
Pidgeon also expects sales of the $499 SKU to "steeply decline," meaning that fewer Xbox One owners will have a Kinect in their living room. So the question has to be asked: does Kinect really have a future? Well, maybe... unbundling certainly diminishes the importance of the camera currently. IHS analyst Piers Harding-Rolls commented, "In effect, Microsoft has reverted to its Xbox 360 Kinect strategy and with a likely drop in interest from third-parties, Kinect for Xbox One has suddenly shifted from central to the Xbox vision to the periphery. However, later in the cycle when adoption is more mass market aligned and entertainment functionality is more heavily built out, Microsoft will be hoping that the value of Kinect will be more easily demonstrated and in demand."
The unbundling of Kinect also has deeper implications for the Xbox business. Perhaps most important of all is that it could make it more profitable for Microsoft, IHS said. "A de-coupled strategy may be more profitable to Microsoft: The cost of the Xbox One Kinect peripheral is well documented, with IHS' teardown team pegging the bill of materials at around $75. By charging separately for Kinect at a similar price point to the original Xbox 360 Kinect - $149.99 - it's conceivable that this may deliver more profitable sales to Microsoft in the long run," Harding-Rolls said.
Furthermore, unbundling the camera gives Microsoft more room to maneuver and stay competitive with Sony. "With two SKUs in the market, Microsoft has reverted to its Xbox 360 strategy. This gives the company some better flexibility with pricing, bundling and product positioning. Microsoft has already described the Xbox One with Kinect as the premium offering," Harding-Rolls noted.
Ultimately, the move sets the stage for an even more heated battle at E3 and the months ahead in 2014. "Sony will need to re-group to maintain its momentum in the market with the E3 press events taking on even more significance for both companies now," Harding-Rolls added.
