Although none too surprising, it looks like Microsoft's gearing up to release at least one new Zune model this year, according to company man Brian Seitz via his Twitter account. Of course, with Ballmer telling an audience last month they're "sustaining our investment" on the product, we're gonna temper our excitement a bit until Redmond shows off the goods, which hopefully won't be long now that the PMP cat's out of the bag.

Now that you've played Resident Evil 5 with each other, it's time to play against each other, as Capcom puts Versus mode up for sale tomorrow on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
The Versus mode contains two different game types. Slayer's Rule sees players trying to down the most Majinis within the time limit, while Survivor's Rule has players trying to down the most other players. Versus will be available for purchase tomorrow on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, costing either 400 Microsoft points or $4.99, depending on how your platform chooses to represent money.
So who's buying?

Microsoft has said the sparkly wireless Lips microphones will soon work with Guitar Hero: Metallica and Rock Band 2.
The compatibility patch should be ready for Metallica's European launch in May, followed by a patch for Rock Band 2 sometime this summer. We're promised support for additional titles later in the year.
The publisher and platform holder also offered a list of Lips DLC arriving this month.
This Friday, 10th April, we'll be given Ne-Yo songs "Closer", "So Sick", and "Hate That I Love You". We'll also get Coldplay tracks "Speed Of Sound", "The Scientist" and "In My Place". Topping these off will be "Looking Out My Back Door" by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
The following Friday, 17th April, promises a Creedence Clearwater Revival bundle featuring "Looking Out My Back Door", "Bad Moon Rising" and "Who'll Stop the Rain". There's also "3 Doors Down" by Kryptonite, "All My Life" by K-Ci & Jo Jo and "Sing" by Travis.
Finally, on Friday, 27th April, we'll be treated to "Love Today" by Mika, "Ocean Avenue" by Yellowcard and "Linger" by The Cranberries.
Prices aren't mentioned, but single Coldplay tracks were offered earlier this year for 180 Microsoft Points (GBP 1.53 / EUR 2.16) each.

It's a morning just like any other, save for one joyous difference. You stumble out of bed, groggy and mildly alarmed by the monstrous shape your hair assumed during the night. A sip of coffee does little to bring your brain out of its fatigue nebula, with a glance at the calendar reminding you that ... wait a minute. It's May! The new Fable II downloadable add-on, "See the Future," is supposed to be out this month!
You quickly don your Bananas in Pajamas dressing gown and rush into the living room, shouting, "Wake up! Wake up you piece of slumbering silicon!" at the Xbox 360. Oh, you simply can't wait to download the new content, which marks the return of Murgo the Trader and the beginning of a new quest to lift a trio of curses placed on mysterious items. What wondrous new wares await you? What new breed will you choose for your post-potion pet? What good (or evil?) will you get up to with new costumes (including a Hobbe outfit!), hairstyles and "psycho Jester make-up?"
Oh, but you're getting carried away. There's still the 560 ($7) charge to pay before you can chase after the "Ghosts of the Snowglobe," save "The Cursed Knight" from his fate or bludgeon everything to a pulp in "The Colosseum." Of course, there are some free items offered to Fable II players (like "Welley's soldier helmet"), but only the premium pack offers ... oh. It's not online today.
You suddenly remember that Joystiq failed to mention what day in May the DLC would arrive. Those incompetent, unreliable bastards.

New for Xbox360 XNA:
This is a game engine writen in xna that I have been working on for a few days and its still in progress and still needs work, but you can download it, and tell me what you think of it so far. It has a map manager, multiple layers can be added, multiple collision layers can be added, and the maps are created from xml documents that are processed with the content pipeline and then converted to xnb files. The maps have their own list of npcs and the npcs have a script that they follow that moves them around on the map and there is also a dialog script for conversations with the npcs. You can navigate between maps too. This is for the XBOX 360

With more and more people taking advantage of the convenience of downloadable content, some might assume that this new trend will start to take away from traditional brick-and-mortar retail. Not so, says Microsoft UK 's Neil Thompson, as he told MCV that there is "growth of the download and digital content market – but it is complementary to boxed content and services." He doesn't see the packaged good business declining at all.
Think of it as the peanut butter on that PB&J sandwich. It's essential, yet complimentary at the same time. And delicious.

A new developer diary has been released explaining the story elements in Radical Entertainment's Prototype. According to the video, the game's main character, Alex Mercer, wakes up on an operating table as doctor's are beginning to autopsy his body. Not one to let himself be autopsied alive, Alex gets the hell out of there only to discover that he has lost his memory and gained inhuman abilities. Alex's task is to find out what happened to him, meeting friends and enemies along the way, by using his newfound abilities.
One such ability allows Alex to consume people. When Alex consumes someone, he not only gains their appearance but also their memories. He can then piece these memories together using the 'Web of Intrigue' system. It uses an interesting visual style, offering what appear to be stream-of-consciousness snapshots of memory. Hopefully the story it reveals will be worth the effort. Of course, if it isn't, you can always drop elbows on tanks.

Team Fortress 2 is set to receive its largest update yet, Valve has revealed.
The next of the shooter's never-ending stream of character updates will be focused on the Sniper, the developer revealed on its blog, and new content for other classes is also planned.
"The next class pack will focus on the Sniper," Valve said. "It's actually shaping up to be the largest TF2 update yet, with multiple new maps and a bunch of gameplay tweaks.
"In addition, we've got another update in the works that should be done before the Sniper, and that one will include some new content for all classes."
Addressing the patch-less Xbox 360 players, who probably feel akin to battered housewives next to their spoilt PC cousins, Vale said that the 360 update "is still being worked on".
"If you're wondering what's taking so long, since the content is 'done' on the PC already, it's mostly been around fitting it all onto the Xbox," it said. "The original version of TF2 in the Orange Box was very close to the Xbox's memory limit, and all the additional TF2 content we've produced has pushed well beyond it.
"We've found a couple of nifty ways to get back a bunch of that memory, but it's turned out to be a lot of work, and that's what most of our time is being spent on. In the meantime, we're going to get a code update out to address the server cheating that's going on."

Bethesda has replaced another faulty version of The Pitt on Xbox Live Marketplace, according to the developer's blog.
Those who had the Fallout 3 content and were experiencing crashes need to delete the existing content and re-download. Those unaffected need do nothing.
To delete The Pitt content, head to the Memory option within the System Settings part of the Xbox 360 dashboard Settings menu. Once there, scroll down and find Fallout 3, select, and then confirm deletion of The Pitt.
The Pitt was released last Tuesday but soon removed as the Xbox Live Marketplace file was corrupted. No sooner was this fixed than the latest bout of crash-related problems arose.
Nevertheless, The Pitt - which costs 800 MSP (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) - is a worthwhile purchase (like myself) and offers considerably more value than Operation: Anchorage - the first of the Fallout 3 DLC.

Now, there's no easy way to break this to you, so we're just going to come out and say it. Dungeon Hero, one of the last remaining remnants of Gamecock's feathery empire, has been delayed. For how long, we can't say, though Firefly Studios assures us that the tongue-in-cheek dungeon crawler still "lives on."
According to the developer, Gamecock's purchase last October "created a number of challenges" for Firefly, forcing the company to put off the game's eventual release. Still, the dev has confidence in the property, writing on its site that in addition to Dungeon Hero, the studio is also working on "a couple of exciting projects built around the Dungeon Hero universe." Firefly also teases that it may be announcing a new Stronghold game in the "very near future." Until then, keep your chin up. It's not all bad.

We've known since last summer that Turbine, developer of Lord of the Rings Online, is working on a console MMO -- just not what said game is. Enter Destructoid, which reports a rumor that the company is bringing LOTRO to Xbox 360.
We contacted Turbine for comment and spoke with its director of public relations, Adam Mersky. "We saw that rumor, too," he told us, adding, "We're not talking about what we're working on specifically, only that we're making a console MMO and actively working with Microsoft and Sony."
Mersky said Turbine is "making good progress" on the title, but any rumors that a console version of LOTRO is close to finished are false. "We plan to make more noise in a couple of months," he responded when asked about its plans to unveil the title. Will it be at E3? "We'll definitely have something to show by summer," said Mersky.

The first installment in a series of developer diary videos for X-Men Origins: Wolverine dropped today, bringing with it a number of heady promises from the folks behind the sextuple-clawed slaughterfest. Included in these promises are reminders of the title's feral protagonist's badassedness (the frequent use of this adjective might make the video NSFW, if you work at like, a monastery or something), and a solemn vow that Wolverine will be "the movie game that finally does not suck." The dev team behind Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game begs to differ.
If developer boasting isn't your cup of tea, the video also provides some nice gameplay footage from the title. However, this footage could leave you worried about Logan's mental health -- we're fairly sure wielding knuckle cutlery whilst traversing a rope bridge isn't the safest way to get around.

A mandatory update has just hit the Xbox 360. According to Microsoft's Larry Hryb, "This update addresses interruption issues that some Xbox LIVE users may have experienced when playing a limited number of Xbox 360 games."
Meaning? "There are no other changes or enhancements in this update…in other words no new features."

Like we said, the Street Fighter IV National Tournament is the biggest SFIV tournament ever (not hard, seeing as its sponsored by GameStop). And this month, it reaches the business end, with the finals.
On April 18 in San Francisco, the 16 best Street Fighters in the United States will converge on the Fort Mason Festival Pavillion to engage in bloodthirsty combat. Every finalist will get a spot in the world finals, to be held in Vegas later this year. But the winner?
Well, the winner gets not only a ticket to the worlds, but also a Street Fighter IV arcade cabinet. Tasty. The action kicks off at 7pm, and it's open to the public.

Well, what's this? A recent Zune job posting says the boys down Redmond-town are looking for someone to come up with "innovative user interfaces for delivering a rich, deep interactive media consumption experience in a living room environment." That sounds to us like integration of the Zune software team into the ConnectedTV division is starting to kick into gear -- the listing also specifically mentions on-demand audio and video content, which seem like a natural direction for ZunePass. We're not sure how any of this is going to pan out, but at least Microsoft is making moves to keep the struggling Zune platform alive -- whether or not that involves actual Zune hardware in the future is still up for debate.

Bethesda, excited by the onset of spring, has halved the price all Oblivion Xbox 360 DLC. All except Horse Armor, that is, which now costs double.
The discount encompasses big and small expansions Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine, plus the long list of miscellaneous extras: The Fighter's Stronghold, Spell Tomes, The Vile Lair, Mehrunes' Razor, The Thieves Den, The Wizard's Tower and The Orrery.
You can browse and buy at the Xbox Live Marketplace for PC. Bethesda says prices will remain halved for the next week.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion provided Xbox 360 owners with their first essential Western RPG. And most retailers offer the game at a much-reduced price these days.

In an interview conducting during last week's Game Developer Conference by Eurogamer, Peter Molyneux hinted that future Fable games may not be RPGs.
"Whatever happens in the future of Fable, I don't want you to think you know exactly what features are going to be in there," Molyneux told Eurogamer. "Don't think about this as an RPG franchise --think about it as the world of Albion. There's a niche for Fable as there's humor in there and there's a Britishness and I think we'll keep that side of it. But whether it's more action or RPG or MMO or some new genre--that's what we have to do."
For Molyneux, it won't do to keep pumping out more of the same. "I think it's not good enough just to say, 'OK, we'll do another Fable.' Because in the end you're just driving yourself off the cliff. At some point, someone's going to turn round and say, 'You know, I'm a bit bored by all this.' We don't want that to happen."
And then Molyneux reverted to his recent habit of coyness, stating that if he were talking about Fable 3, "I would hope there would be three enormously big things about the Fable 3 that would surprise and shock you. Not that I am talking about Fable 3. Hypothetically speaking."
During the same interview, Molyneux teased his next game, which doesn't sound as if it is related to Fable. When asked if he would be able to show anything at E3, he said, "I would show you now if it was up to me." But it's not up to him. Lionhead is owned by Microsoft. According to Molyneux, he first needs to get a thumbs up from MS to continue developing the project and then needs something tangible to show people. However, showing it off internally, he claims to have received "probably the best reaction I've ever seen to anything I've done."
So what is the new game? Let Molyneux's cryptic description sink in. "When you look at it I think you'll say, 'Well, that's just insanely simple. Why has it taken so long?' But what makes it so hard --and this is teasing you horribly--is making it so simple, and yet to have all this unbelievable technology behind the thing."
While it's possible Lionhead's next project could be announced or shown at E3, it's unlikely. Over the past several E3's, Microsoft has focused its press conference on games coming out in the same year and have done very little to promote its future projects.
