An embargo just lifted for a bunch of Star Ocean: The Last Hope media. I gave it glance and didn’t notice anything special. Pesmerga00 who has been following the game very closely did (thanks for the tip!!). It’s subtle, but it appears Square Enix is erasing anything anime in the English release of Star Ocean: The Last Hope.
Look at these battle screenshots and focus on the character portraits. The Japanese version (top) has anime faces while the English version (bottom) has CG models.

Believe it or not there is an RPG with a longer gap between its announcement and pending release than Final Fantasy XIII. Softmax announced they were working on Magna Carta II for the Xbox 360 way back in 2005, nine months before Square Enix officially lifted the curtain on Final Fantasy XIII.
The funny thing about Magna Carta II is we still haven’t seen a single screenshot or teaser trailer for the game yet. We’ll overlook that for now since Softmax finally gave an update about how it’s progressing. According to the developer Magna Carta II is “in its last stage of development” and yes it’s still an Xbox 360 exclusive. Still no word when it will come out, though. 2010? 2011? Delayed to become an Xbox 720 launch game for Korea?

The 360's avatars are, all copy-cat jokes aside, surprisingly endearing. Only problem is, some of the wardrobe and body options are a little...limited. That's something user-generated content could address. So, uh, will it?
According to the team behind the little guys, the answer is a resounding maybe. Rare's Dale Murchie says:
User-generated content is a huge area that would not have been done any justice if we had tried to cram it into the launch release of this project.
There may be features coming that open up the expressive potential of the Xbox community, but we're keeping quiet on that for now.

Simply aping one device at a time has just become too easy for the cloning labs in the backwoods of China, as evidenced by the two-for-one produced here by QQ. The K805 does its best Zune and iPod impersonation, and amazingly, it does so at the same time. The all too familiar click wheel is there, yet so is the rectangular design first made famous by the cats in Redmond. For those looking for the worst of both worlds, you'll be interested in knowing that this here player features a 2.4-inch 320 x 240 resolution display, support for a plethora of files, USB 2.0 connectivity and a microSD card slot for loading up your favorite EMF jams. We aren't clued in on a price, but do yourself a favor and pretend you never actually wanted to know.

February 6th, 2009, 20:45 Posted By: wraggster
Paramount Digital Entertainment has just announced a new Xbox Live Arcade game based on The Warriors, planned for release this summer. The brawler is part of a 30th anniversary celebration that will include a new comic book series and "other products and entertainment". The new game will feature, of course, the movie's trademark gangs, fighting each other.
However, don't expect a sequel to the acclaimed 2005 Warriors game by Rockstar -- this game is being made by developer CTXM and not Rockstar Games.
Check out the trailer after the break! Oh, and "Warriors, come out to play-ay!" Just because it's important to work that into every post about The Warriors

We have them, a good portion of Xbox 360 supported regions around the world have them, but for whatever reason Japan doesn’t have Community Games. In the first half of 2009 Xbox 360 owners in Japan will be able to download stuff like Biology Battle and virtual fireplaces.
Like I said before we already have Community Games, but seeing Japan start the Community Games service could be exciting news. This opens the floodgates for doujin console games. Imagine being able to play one of Team Shanghai Alice’s shooters without having to fly to Japan to dig around for a disc. No specific titles have been announced, but there is already some neat XNA stuff out there like Irritate UFO (pictured) and Mazer Mayhem from ABA Games.

New from Mrmodchips
XCM Wireless controller shell in smoke black for Xbox 360 not only change the style of your pad, but comes with extra features such as special buttons lightning and an improved D-pad for better directional control.
XCM new wireless controller shell now comes with a new D-pad and LED kit set to light up all buttons.
The XCM D-Pad has been redesigned and optimised. The new XCM wireless controller shell uses a much larger D-pad with more room to allow the d-pad to move more when using it. This will make sure you do not accidentally hit another direction on the d-pad while trying to access something else. For example when switching weapons on most first person shooters.

Just got started with R-Type Dimensions and the neatest addtion is the graphics filter. This Xbox Live Arcade “game” is actually two games. Tozai Games remade R-Type and R-Type 2 with prettier 3D graphics for the Xbox 360.
Don’t like them? You can switch back to classic 2D graphics while you’re blasting the Bydo Empire’s swarm of spaceships. The on-the-fly graphics change is instant too so you can flip-flop between retro and future in the heat of a boss fight. You can also tilt the camera so you can see either game at an angle which is a little disorientating. Still, it’s an awesome trick that let’s players visualize R-Type in true 3D. Switching the graphics is a little feature compared to toning down the difficulty by letting new players cruise through with infinite lives and the help of a friend, but I’m impressed by it. More 3D remakes should include a “now and then” filter.

The mother of a Michigan teen who went missing for three days visited Good Morning America today, saying her daughter was "lured" to Puerto Rico by a 26-year-old man she met on Xbox Live.
"He would play a game and just come into the room," said Stacey Rieberger. "If you have a Live account, then anybody in the world can come in and play with you. That's how she met him."
Sixteen-year-old Jasmine Rieberger was detained in Puerto Rico along with the as-yet unidentified 26-year-old man. According to an "I have not been kidnapped" note she left her parents, she was going to Puerto Rico to pursue her dream of being a boxer. Jasmine destroyed her 360 and her computer before she left.

Bad news first: there might be a bit more competition than you expected for that home theater giveaway. Good luck bringing down Netflix's shooting star though, as if last week's good news train wasn't enough comes news that over a million Xbox Live Gold members have already downloaded and activated the Watch Instantly app since its NXE debut last November. That's more than 10% of Netflix's just announced 9.4 million subscribers who've already watched over 1.5 billion minutes of TV and movies through their consoles. They're not the only ones happy, while streaming may be eating into DVD rentals, Xbox Live Marketplace rentals are up 174 percent year over year. The streaming library is up to 12,000 titles, with a "growing percentage" in high definition, for the rest of the celebratory details check the full PR after the break. Nothing left for us to say but congratulations and hey, if you get a minute, could you fix Nilay's HD streaming on the Xbox? Thanks.

The episodic adventure specialists at Telltale Games are making the jump to Xbox Live Arcade this spring, with the help of a bumbling inventor and his hyper-intelligent canine companion.
Telltale's latest episodic adventure title, Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures, is also a grad adventure for the developer, marking their first foray onto Xbox Live Arcade. Primarily developing titles for the PC, Telltale first made the leap to consoles with their last game series, Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People, which was also released on the Nintendo Wii.
"Our episodic series focus on story, character, humor, and cinematic presentation—very much like a television or film production. This all makes for a great living room experience through the gaming console," says Telltale CEO Dan Connors. "We're looking forward to expanding our catalog onto Xbox LIVE Arcade."
In honor of the announcement Telltale has delivered new screenshots of the upcoming dog and inventor show for your viewing pleasure.

Troy Victorino, the ringleader behind the Florida Xbox murders, says that the trial that ended in a death sentence for him wasn't fair.
His attorney Tuesday told the Florida Superme Court that Victorino should have been tried separately from co-defendants, who blamed the now 32-year-old, for their involvement.

Like some other current-gen fighting games, Capcom's Street Fighter IV will be receiving premium downloadable content. As revealed by Japanese magazine Famitsu (via IGN), the latest in the SF series will witness weekly updates of additional costume packs, starting on and following after the Japanese launch date of February 12.
There are five costume packs (priced at ¥400 or 320 each) in total, with each one containing alternate costumes for five different combatants. If you do the math, that makes one extra wardrobe change for each character on the 25-fighter roster. However, it might be more worthwhile for clothing-crazed fans to wait until after all packs are released before grabbing things off the racks. Why? Because Capcom has plans of a "combo pack" enclosing all that content at a discount (¥1,200 or 1,000) sometime after everything is made available. Call it an out-of-fashion clearance sale.
Not everything needs to be paid for, however, as Street Fighter IV will also have a free Championship Mode update offering tournament-style network play. High-ranking players will have their replay data uploaded online for the public to watch and study. Though all of this currently pertains only to the Japanese version, it's likely safe to assume that Capcom will make similar announcements for worldwide releases very soon – especially with the launch so near.

KSEE 24 news is reporting that Xbox Live was the initial point of contact in a case of alleged internet grooming by a Paedophile in America. In brief the allegations are as follows, Edward Stout (27) made initial contact with his alleged victim (15) last April while gaming over Xbox Live. The relationship is reported to have then developed further leading to phone sex and eventually to a meeting in person on January 28th before Stout’s eventual arrest.
This story highlights the need for Parents to be aware that the Xbox 360 and other consoles with online capabilities can be used by paedophiles as a way of meeting children. I sadly doubt this will be the last time that consoles are associated with paedophilia in this way. It should be noted that there are parental controls available on the Xbox 360 that if used properly will prevent your child from being able to be contacted from anyone not on an approved list. Assuming of course that the child can not access the parental master account on the Xbox.
