Timesplitters 4 project 'to be announced for new hardware'
Microsoft will unveil its next generation console at E3 next year, according to new reports.
And Crytek UK, the British arm of the European development giant, is claimed to be building a new Timesplitters game for the next console.
Both claims originate from a news article published on VideoGamer, citing alledged inside sources.
Microsoft and Crytek UK have declined to comment.
"Crytek believes that Microsoft will announce and launch its new machine ahead of rival Sony, though the developer is also investing resources into next-generation PlayStation development," the VideoGamer article read.
A "high-ranking industry source at Crytek" is quoted as saying TimeSplitters 4 is currently being demonstrated internally.
That game, built with CryEngine 3, was shown privately in video form at E3 2011, VideoGamer said.
'100 PER CENT NOT TRUE'
The new information sits in-line with several Develop sources who say new Xbox hardware is on desks at an increasing number of studios.
In May, Develop reported that a new Xbox console was on desks at one EA studio that cannot be named.
EA declined to comment on the matter, though it went on to allege the article was "100 per cent not true".
The next Xbox will liekly appear at E3 next year, the VideoGamer article claimed.
CryEngine is thought will be supported on the console.

Microsoft may be planning a new system of Kinect-enabled advertising for the Xbox 360, following the discovery of a new trademark for "NUAds".
A trademark application discovered by website Techie Buzz refers to a new service called NUAds and although Kinect is not mentioned by name it appears to be instrumental to the new concept.
"Advertising services, namely, promoting and marketing the goods and services of others through online interactive video games by enabling consumers to interact with third-party advertising content through voice or body gestures via computer game console and sensor devices", reads the description.
The description appears to imply advertising via the Xbox 360 dashboard, rather than in-game. Static and video advertising is already streamed via the current dashboard and a new fully Kinect-controlled version of the interface was unveiled at the recently concluded E3 expo.
The website Techie Buzz speculates that the new service may be an attempt by Microsoft to introduce an equivalent to Apple's iAds - a touch-controlled advertising platform for iOS developers.

Microsoft has refuted the idea that core gamers were ever disapproving about Kinect - suggesting instead that they merely wanted the motion device to feature in their favourite games.
The platform holder used its E3 conference last Monday to show off a host of games that it believes will be 'Better With Kinect' - including BioWare's Mass Effect 3 and Ubisoft's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.
Speaking to an audience after the firm's E3 showcase, Microsoft's Kinect maestro Kudo Tsunoda said: "I mean, I never really thought that core gamers were in any way hostile to Kinect. People saying: 'Wow, we'd really love to have Kinect in the games that we love to play and the genres and types of games we like to enjoy,'... to me that's saying like: 'We really love Kinect, and we'd like Kinect to be in the experiences that we play regularly.' I never really looked on it as something that we needed to address.
He added: "The number of Kinect experiences we're going to have are going to triple by the end of the year, so there's going to be more different types of experiences in more different types of genres.
"Let's face it, I've been playing games since I was like five-years-old. If there's anybody who is a core gamer, it is me and I'm just happy that Kinect and developers are excited enough about Kinect - and that core gamers are excited enough about Kinect - to have the technology showing up in all different types of games.
"I think that's one of the real strengths of Xbox: It doesn't matter what kind of person you are, a core gamer or a non-core gamer, if you like controllers or you want to play controller-free, we really make it so people can play games the way they want on our console, and developers can build experiences on the way that they want on our console.
"Again, I never really looked on it as core gamers being hostile. A bunch of people saying: 'Hey we'd really like to have this stuff in our games,' - to me that's much more something that makes me feel good about the technology."'

Microsoft Games Studios VP Phil Spencer has described the PlayStation Network hack that dominated gaming headlines in late April and May as a "crappy" situation that was bad for the industry as a whole, the Xbox maker included.
"It's crappy," he told IGN of the lengthy PSN outage. "What [the hackers] did is against the law, hurts consumers, and doesn't help any of us in the industry.
"I think Sony would say they're out there to create entertainment products and games for everybody. People want to trust that their information online is safe.
"I've had questions about whether or not this helps Xbox Live," he added, "and no, it doesn't help anybody. Having people question the safety of their online information is not good for our industry."
Sony said at E3 last week that activity on the PlayStation Network is back up to 90 percent of what it had been before the security breach.

Console posts 17 consecutive months of year-and-year growth in the US; Sector falls to four and a half year low; 3DS struggles
Xbox 360 has posted its 17th successive month of year-on-year unit sales growth in the US.
In total Xbox 360 has accounted for 34 per cent of the region's total video games revenue so far in 2011 – a seven per cent year-on-year increase.
However, the overall picture is less rosy. The May US video games market was worth $743.1m. That's a fall of 14 per cent and the lowest value since October 2008.
"Keeping in mind that these sales figures represent just the new physical portion of the market for video game hardware, software, and accessories and not the growing portion of the industry that is comprised of digital format content distribution, May 2011 was the lowest month of sales for the industry since October 2006," NPD analyst Anita Frazier stated.
"A light slate of new releases is at the heart of this month's performance."
Overall hardware sales were down five per cent though this is mostly attributable to declines suffered by Nintendo's machines. The 3DS has yet to take off, either.
"Sales of the 3DS were light," Frazier admitted. "But with next Sunday's release of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, we will begin to see a slate of strong content come to market for the 3DS, which should help to significantly boost sales of hardware during the remainder of 2011.
"Combined sales of the PS3 and Xbox 360 are up 28 per cent for the month and 21 per cent year to date. Although the declines in console hardware sales in 2011 are attributable to the Wii, the platform remains the best-selling of this generation at nearly 36 million installed in the US."
At the current rates of growth and decline Wii looks set to remain as the nation's best selling console this generation through 2011.

Does anybody actually enjoy the laborious process of trying out clothes? The sheer physical effort, the risk of breaking a sweat... it's just not for us. We're much more comfortable with virtual reality fitting rooms, which is where Microsoft's Kinect motion camera has found yet another raison for its etre. Razorfish, the folks who already impressed us with some neat Kinect hacking, now have a new shopping platform that's said to actually wrap clothes around your frame and thereby provide a 3D preview of what you and they would look like together. The current iteration only shows some giddy ladies exploring the wide world of handbags, but they do look suitably impressed with the system. There are also sharing options via QR codes and NFC, plus the obligatory social networking tie-ins. Skip after the break to see the KinectShop on video.

Bill Gates doesn't give too many interviews, but the Daily Mail's Caroline Graham sure managed to get a lot out of him during their recent sitdown. Gates spent much of the time discussing his global health foundation, which, according to him, has become "full-time work for the rest of my life." And, while he acknowledged that he's still involved with Microsoft on a "part-time" basis, he reaffirmed that he has no desire to return to the throne. Does this mean he's finally ready to lift his household's notorious Apple embargo and allow his kids to own iPods? Not exactly:
"They have the Windows equivalent. They have a Zune music player, which is a great Windows portable player. They are not deprived children."
Hear that? Bill's kids aren't in need! In fact, they even earn allowances and "do chores," just like your kids. Sure, their pops may have billions of dollars stowed away under his mattress, but he says his offspring will only receive a "minuscule portion" of that fortune. Cue the violins.

After the presentation of a PCB replacement can then flash drives LiteOn DG-16D4S, Team Xecuter has presented the solution for professionals.
The benefit is a $ 20 price, less important than the replacement of PCBs found him at $ 70, but requiring skills in Micro-Welding. Indeed, we must learn to remove the resin, namely desolder and resolder a composting micro-cms (MT1335 IC CHIP) for this solution

News via http://x360.gx-mod.com/modules/news/...p?storyid=3379
After several weeks of waiting, Team Xecuter has unveiled its first solution for LiteOn slim blocked for writing. This solution for the LiteOn 0225, 0401 but also 9504 through a PCB replacement "flashable".
According to Team Xecuter, this type of PCB Liteon DG-16D4S is supposed to replace "easy" PCBs slim drives LiteOn 0225 and 0401 write-blocked or faulty LiteOn slim or grilled. The team suggests that these PCBs are simple to flash via Jungle Flasher using the X360 PRO USB, but also "via SATA. It would be possible to disable / enable write protection via a mechanism that is not publicly known yet.
However, it should indicate that this solution will always require some solder points to connect the cables from the former PCB on those alternatives.
Now remains the question of price. The solution proposed by Team Xecuter is available for preorder for $ 74.95 USD the room. This price decrease as and when ordered quantities to reach $ 45 a piece for over 1,000 units ordered. The availability date is said to set June 30
A solution "PRO", according to a member of Team Xecuter, should be available soon. The latter would be cheaper but will certainly be more difficult to implement.

Microsoft's already brought Xbox Live integration to Windows Phone 7, and it looks like you can count on some similar, if not deeper, integration in Windows 8 as well. Speaking to The Seattle Times, Microsoft VP Mike Delman said that "Live has been successful on the Windows Phone," and that "Live will be built into the PC. It will be the service where you get your entertainment." Delman went on to add that "Xbox Live will the pervasive media service across devices," and that "whether it's us or Apple or anybody else, people want to be able to navigate through multiple devices in a certain ecosystem very seamlessly so we're committed to that." As you might expect, however, he was still fairly light on any further specifics, but he did say that assets like Live and SkyDrive will be unified, and he promised that Microsoft will have plenty more to show at next year's E3 -- according to Delman, "you will not just see consoles and handhelds at this show next year, this show's going to morph into other devices."

tripleevenfall sends in a PCMag story about how Microsoft's problems in driving Windows Phone 7 adoption stem in part from how the phones are represented to customers in carriers' stores. Quoting:
"At AT&T, the salesperson was a recent iPhone to Android convert. She was enthusiastic about WP7 devices, saying that Netflix was on WP7 and not available on her Android, and looked embarrassed when she walked me over to AT&T's unkempt WP7 display shelf. ... At a Verizon reseller kiosk, a salesman clearly tried to deter me from buying a WP7 device altogether. Not only did not he appear to know the fundamental difference between Windows Mobile and WP7, his kiosk didn't even offer WP7 devices and said you'd only find WP7 demo products at a few of Verizon's big retail stores. 'Honestly, only 1 out of 500 customers comes in here asking for a Windows phone,' he said. 'Verizon won't roll them out to kiosks until it performs better on the market.'"

Microsoft asked us to drop by at E3 to chat up a generically identified "Xbox executive," imagine our surprise when we found Kudo Tsunoda hiding behind door number six. Wearing his signature shades, Kudo gave us a brief primer on what makes Kinect great, or at least a heavy endorsement of Kinect Fun Labs. While we can certainly dig the bit-sized gadgetry Fun Labs has to offer, we like to dig deeper -- will the Kinect hardware ever be integrated into other devices? Any plans for Microsoft's 3D tracking camera and Windows 8? Kudo did his best to feed our ravenous appetite for answers.
It wasn't easy on poor Kudo, of course -- more than once we saw him glance longingly at his wrangler, a friendly PR rep keeping him from spilling the beans on anything too awesome. Probing about Windows 8 and Kinect produced one such look, and while our man very lightly suggested that Microsoft does more than games -- and that the dual-camera device might start showing up on other devices -- the big M had nothing to announce at that time. Kudo did go on to say, however, that we can expect to see new, innovative, "oh my gosh, I can't believe Kinect can do that" experiences at E3 year after year, citing this year's keynote for some recent examples. While we couldn't coax any leaks about Xbox or Kinect successors out of the man, it's good to see Microsoft's continued dedication to improving the platform.

Paul Thurrot called out the elephant in the room: there's no trace of Zune branding anywhere that we can see on the new Xbox 360 dashboard design. It's simply "music" and "video" now. Frankly, that makes sense - it's a bit of nonsense that we need to go into the Zune interface to watch videos...
It seems pretty clear that the Zune as a device is dead, and as a service, it's on the way out. Quite a shame really...

Two EA studios will alternate war-shooter releases each year in a new fight on Activision
EA studios Danger Close and DICE are both locked in a project rotation cycle that mirrors how Activision releases games from Treyarch and Infinity Ward.
Electronic Arts will "continue to follow our rotation strategy,” said games boss Frank Gibeau.
"In general, we're giving studios a full two-year cycle to get a game built and polished to maximum quality,” he added.
It means the Los Angeles-based Danger Close is very likely building a new Medal Of Honor game, due for release in 2012, to follow up on its 2010 reboot of the series.
Sweden-based EA DICE will this year release Battlefield 3, and likely – providing the genre maintains its popularity – release a follow-up in 2013.
As quoted by CVG, Gibeau went on to say that the rotation would allow both EA studios to “maximise technology investments like [the high-end game engine] Frostbite 2”.
"The idea is to have that rotation happen with Battlefield and Medal of Honor and keep it fresh so you don't burn the teams down or over-annualise the product lines,” Gibeau added.
The move means a new EA military shooter will be released each year to counter Activision’s rotation policy.
Infinity Ward and Treyarch each build new Call Of Duty titles every two years in the same alternating release pattern.
Meanwhile, EA Partner studio Respawn will be used to compete with Activision’s new partner Bungie.
Both independent developers are thought to be building sci-fi based FPS titles.
"Titles like Respawn - and I think the Insomniac title is a little bit more of an action game than a pure shooter - we'll sprinkle those in where we see opportunistic gaps, either in a release schedule or in a genre standpoint," Gibeau added.

Nyko is showing off gadgets and gizmos aplenty at E3 this year - sadly, the Wii Party Station won't be one of them (and still isn't slated for production). The company's E3 2011 lineup does include accessories like the "Zoom for Kinect," a clip-on lens which supposedly allows those with smaller living spaces to use the Kinect, reducing the distance required by "up to 40%."
For 3DS owners, Nyko has the Shock n' Rock cradle, which offers two times the battery life and four powered speakers, along with vibration feedback. The company is also showing off the Game Boost, an accessory that adds an extra hour or two of battery life. There's also the Power Grip, which supposedly adds three times the battery without removing the device's power.
Most extravagantly, there's the Play Clock for 3DS. A combination: charging dock, alarm clock and powered speaker system. There's also a line-in port for connecting your MP3 player of choice. It's actually pretty nifty, depending on what the final price ends up being.
Pricing and release dates are still unconfirmed for all the products, but all of the items should be available in time for the holidays.

Microsoft's European team is confident the publisher will soon see Kinect titles hitting 10 million units sold.
Speaking at E3 this week in LA, Chris Lewis, VP for Interactive Entertainment in Europe, said that with an installed base of 10 million Kinect units in homes it's only a matter of time before motion-controlled games follow the high sales figures achieved by hit hardcore video games.
"I have to say yes, because I think with 55 million Xboxes and counting, you're quite quickly going to get to an install base where that kind of attach possibility is very real," Lewis told GamesIndustry.biz in an interview published today.
"So I think yes, certainly that's true on the core platform now but it will also be true for a Kinect game."
In a wide-reaching interview, Lewis also suggested that it's not too late to introduce successful new IP to the current generation of home consoles, so long as hardware and services continue to innovate.
"I think Kinect for us opens up a whole new realm of experiences that weren't available for us in the past – whether it's video, whether it's Facebook integration, whether it's Twitter, all of the things that I think make broader digital home-based experiences more meaningful is great, and there's a ton of those coming," he said.

The E3 2011 announcements from Microsoft just keep on coming, though this one's a little more superficial than the rest. An Xbox 360 console, specially refashioned with a set of blood-red Gears of War 3 visuals, is set to launch on September 20th, equipped with a 320GB hard drive, two matching wireless controllers, and the obligatory copy of its headline game (plus some DLC goodies). The whole bundle will set buyers back $400, but if you already have a 360 of your own and just want one of those snazzy-looking crimson controllers, your wait and expense will be significantly reduced -- you'll be able to buy the GOW3 control pads for $60 on August 11th.

t's over. It's done. The green bulbs have been taken out of the light sockets, and replaced with the usual yellow. What follows are a collection of thoughts, some angry and some elated, on the relative successes and failures of the Microsoft 2011 E3 press conference.
For the full run-down on the announcements click right through on this here link, otherwise... read on.
Hated!
So much... Kinect...
It cannot be denied that by the end of the MS conference we were flinching at each and every mention of Kinect. Yes, some hardcore games look to be using the technology well and kids will enjoy much of it. As the green lights went up at the end of the show, however, the CVG office had already built gruesome effigies of the clean-cut actors hired to wave their hands around, and look like tools, on-stage. Someone had already set the one of the kids playing the Disneyland game ("We'll get those other coins next time!") on fire.
Loved!
Tomb Raider
For a start it's great to giggle at the phrase 'Our new game - Tomb Raider', but beyond that the game looks bold, striking and darkly beautiful. We're not usually the types who like to see women knocked around, obviously, but the brutal bone-crunching treatment given to Lara is a stark departure for the series.
What's more the dynamics of spreading fire to solve puzzles, and the flame effects as her torch flickers against low ceilings, is utterly fantastic. There was a real feeling of the film The Descent throughout the game's showing, especially in the final ascent to the surface and, despite this section's linearity, it left us gasping for more. And Lara? Well she gasped, shrieked, moaned, groaned and made all manner of unladylike noises. We'd pay good money to attend one of her recording sessions.
Hated!
No alarms and no surprises
Much as it's wonderful to have a sly giggle at Microsoft accidentally pressing the big red button that released news of Halo 4 et al. to the world several hours early, it sure as hell siphoned the adrenalin from our happy-glands. The Halo 4 reveal itself should have been epic - instead it showed that Master Chief is still alive, that Cortana needed help and... well... here we go again...
Loved!
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
How could we resist that trailer when placed alongside the brilliant, brilliant accent of Ubisoft head honcho Yves Guillemot? That man's so French he probably has the word 'Bof' tattooed on his thigh. The paused-battle fly-by camera movie was epic, while the Kinect integration in the gun creation suite (while simple) was stark, bold and beautiful. It had a real 'Guns. Lots of guns.' Matrix feel - and the weapons themselves looked stunningly realised.
Hated!
Needless Kinect integration
Sure, it's a clever feature - but do you think, in a million years, that you'd ever read Shepherd's response options out loud while playing Mass Effect 3? A button tap is not only quicker and easier, but it won't make your cat and/or real-life love interest stare at you as if you're mental either.
Likewise, the vocal orientation around the new TV options is a great trick (and presumably fantastic for disabled 360 owners) but just because it's another step closer to Back to the Future Part Two doesn't mean the majority of gamers will use it. At the same time, though, it'll be a laugh to shout "Xbox! Bing! Goatse!" when you're visiting friends and then run out of the room.
Loved!
Minecraft on 360 with Kinect integration
Easily the biggest surprise of the Conference. The little indie game that could, and then did, is headed to the living room. It's a game that could work really well with Kinect and means that creator Notch is about to get even more stupidly rich. The big hat-wearing genius that he is.
Hated!
On-rails hand-waving frivolity
Yes, the young (and perhaps the weak of mind) will enjoy them - but from a hardcore perspective it was hard to imagine us stomping around our living rooms playing either Fable Journey or Kinect Star Wars. It's like the FMV on-rails PC games of the late nineties have come back with a vengeance.
All this said, we will be big enough to admit that it's nice to see Molyneux return to the physical spell-casting concept he first explored with mouse-waving in Black & White. We'd also be awful fibbers if we said that Ryse, formerly Codename: Kingdoms, didn't make us want to throw knives in Roman faces.
Loved!
Aquatic derring-do with Gears 3 and Modern Warfare 3
Neither stole the show, but together the gigantic yellow mouth of the infected sea beast biting chunks out of Marcus Fenix's boat and the Frost/Sandman boat chase while a nuclear stockpile fired off from a submarine floating next to Manhattan island were suitably epic. It can't go unmentioned, either, that the moment Creative Strategist Robert Bowling's 360 pad ran out of batteries was priceless...
Hated!
American Child Actors
Children are the future, of course, and they can have their own games. That's fine. The Disneyland game probably doesn't make those under ten want to retch, perhaps not even stab out their own eyes with the box it came in. What children, real children, would certainly not do is spout inane marketing-thought platitudes as they play. "We were so close!" "Get those coins!" "Fistbump!" "Get that big one!" God, give us strength. What's more - it's not just the kids. The guys playing American Football on Kinect Sports Season Two caused us to die inside a little. Usually the phrase "Boo 22! Hit me! Hit me!" is reserved for entirely different party games.
Loved!
Kinect Funlabs
Okay, we'll drop the cynicism a notch. Funlabs Avatar creation, scanning facilities and finger tracking looked engaging - and surprisingly are free to use as of now. Originally we wrote 'Ginger tracking' in our notes though, and we can't help but feel that this could be the next service to society that Kinect provides.
Hated!
Some words should never be used in conjunction ever again
They are as follows: "Visceral combat experience", "Valuable life lessons through the power of Kinect" and "Fistbump!"

Microsoft has unveiled plans to introduce cloud storage for Xbox Live profiles and game saves.
The news was not announced at the platform holder's conference, but tucked away in an open letter from Live exec Marc Whitten.
"We are making it easier for you to sign into your Xbox Live account from any console at any time to access your game saves and full profile," the letter reads.
"Cloud storage will allow you to enjoy the same great Xbox Live gaming experience even when you're not in your own living room by giving you the option to store your "game saves" securely in the Xbox Live cloud, instead of on a portable memory unit or your console's hard drive.
"Gone are the days of "gamertag recovery". Now all you need to do is sign in, no matter where you are!"
Also promised are a new dashboard ("Simpler. Cleaner. Easier to navigate"), expanded voice support and something called "Beacons" - "a way to tell your Xbox Live and Facebook friends that you want to play a game on Xbox Live".
So, for example: "Imagine sending out a Beacon to let your friends know you're interested in playing Halo, while watching a movie on Netflix." Of course you have to imagine having Netflix unless you're American but never mind.
"I can't wait to open the doors to your new home for entertainment this holiday," Whitten's letter ends. Shiver. "Rest assured, there is more to come."

Quick refreshing of Microsoft's E3 landing page has apparently revealed some of the things it will be announcing within a couple of hours at its E3 press conference, including new features for Xbox Live like Voice Search and new look for the service. With the explosive popularity of the Kinect add-on, it looks like the system is being refashioned with support built in from the ground up as opposed to the current menu system that's more of an afterthought. Also mentioned on the page are Dance Central 2, Kinect Sports Season 2 and most importantly, two new Halo games. One is Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary which appears to be the HD (& possibly 3D) remake leaked by Joystiq previously, while the other is Halo 4 -- no explanation needed. We'll surely find out everything when the press conference kicks off live at 12:30 p.m. Eastern and of course we'll be covering all of the news live right here.
Update: Microsoft's just confirmed some of the leaked information onstage at its E3 keynote, with demonstrations of a deeply integrated Voice command setup powered by Kinect. YouTube has been announced as an Xbox Live partner, while Bing is coming to the console to let users search across Netflix, Xbox Live Marketplace, and Hulu all at once. That universal search also extends to new live TV partnerships with Sky, Canal+ and Foxtel.
