Xbox 360 Central recently sparked a promising rumor, reporting that VGM Daily's Wednesday (4/12) podcast revealed "Microsoft [is] hoping to bring N64 title Goldeneye to XBLA." However, upon review, the interview with Xbox Live Marketplace team member Aaron Greenberg (featured in the podcast) casts a dark shadow on the possibility of Rare's classic reborn under the Xbox banner.
Here's our transcription (via Conrad Quilty-Harper):
VGM: It was recently made clear both by Rare and Microsoft that all the Rare owned licenses are owned by you guys now. What's the likelihood of a game like Goldeneye that was on the Nintendo 64 showing up on Xbox Live? 'Cause that game would do rather well ... ohhh, there's the smile! 'Wait for E3!'
Greenberg: No, the smile was just that you guys are asking very good questions. So, here's the best way to answer that: I would say is that as far as I know we don't have plans to bring those types of games on Xbox Live Arcade ... Some of the games that were ... on the N64, those games were pretty large and are still gonna be pretty hard to distribute digitally depending on the title. I think even if you look at what Nintendo's planning on doing in this space ... it's 8- and 16-bit games, it's not 32- and 64-bit games. So yeah, we're excited to have Rare as a developer ... But we don't have a big strategy around bringing a bunch of those games in particular [to the XBLA].

The eagerly anticipated Halo 3 will be a free-form prequel boasting persistent worlds, four-player co-op and non-linear evolving gameplay, and will be named Forerunner.
The Forerunner were techno-savvy aliens who created the colossal Halo artefacts and then disappeared. These details appeared after US gaming magazine Game Informer enjoyed an exclusive audience with Bungie, where it was also claimed that the new game will not continue the Halo story from where Halo 2 left off.
Bungie published a reply soon after the magazine hit the shelves last month, stating that the wild news piece was nothing more than a journalist's April Fool's Day joke.
But the latest issue of Game Informer again claims that it reported the truth about Forerunner, and that it was never intended as a joke. Then, for good measure, the mag threw out another info-bomb by revealing that a massively multiplayer Halo game is also in development.
Still, Bungie is notorious for pulling the wool over the eyes of the media: there have been rumours of a pirate game seeping from the developer's homepage for years - and that's just because it loves pirates.
It's almost certain that a new Halo game is in the works - Bill Gates would look pretty stupid if there wasn't - but the odds are that we won't hear anything until the E3 games show in May. Until then, everything else is just smoke and mirrors. Perhaps even this story...

Microsoft has revealed that for one week in May, it'll be offering free access to Xbox Live Gold, and all that's required to take advantage of this fit of generosity is your Xbox 360 hooked up to a broadband connection.
As of Monday, May 8 at 8am and running through to Monday, May 15 at 8am, all Silver Xbox Live accounts will be automatically upgraded to the Gold level of service. What this means, of course, is that, for free, you'll be able to enjoy all the giddiness that Gold has to offer, including playing Xbox 360 games online against other users.
Funnily enough, the free Gold access runs during E3 week, so we're expecting Microsoft to unleash a whole mass of Xbox 360 delights on Live that'll tie in with its major announcements at the show. Keep 'em peeled for plenty of downloadable content, the likes of trailers and game demos set to be released every day during the jamboree.
Microsoft's freebie is all part of an event called Xbox Live Football Free-For-All, which is sponsored by adidas:
"The Xbox Live Football Free-For-All will celebrate all things football in a non-stop, connected world. You can play EA's 2006 FIFA World Cup - in stores from 28th April - with or against your friends over Xbox Live and if you feel like some tougher competition you can register to qualify for the Xbox Cup - taking place right now. The Xbox Live Football Free-For-All also gives you the chance to represent your country in Berlin this summer by qualifying for the Xbox Cup through Xbox Live. All you need is an Xbox 360 console, a copy of EA's 2006 FIFA World Cup and a broadband connection," says Microsoft.
Plus, as part of the Football Free-For-All, there's the chance that you and a team of ten friends could bag 11 limited Xbox 360 World Cup edition consoles, 11 free subscriptions to Xbox Live, 11 copies of 2006 FIFA World Cup and 11 adidas Teamgeist footballs - the official match ball of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
Don't forget: to take part in the Free-For-All event, all you need to do is plug a broadband cable into the back of your Xbox 360 console. Doing this will give you the standard Xbox Live Silver membership which will be upgraded automatically to Gold on May 8.

April 13th, 2006, 18:34 Posted By: wraggster
Kevin Bachus, the man formerly in charge of Microsoft's original Xbox effort, has been putting pen to paper, or rather fingers to keyboard, to give his thoughts on how the next-generation battle will shape up, describing the almighty tussle between Sony and Microsoft as simply too close to call.
Speaking to respected UK trade mag MCV, Bachus began by dissecting the recent slew of PS3 announcements which saw Sony confirm the debut of the console at the end of this year, opining, "I think that Sony really had no choice but to announce a global release for PS3. At this point, any delay to the launch in any territory is going to create bigger challenges both for Sony and for its publishers.
"Sony's greatest strengths historically have been manufacturing and retail and one would expect them to muster everything they can between now and the November launch to take full advantage of those strengths."
Moving on to talk about online, which many seasoned industry watchers see as one of the key battlegrounds in the next gen, Bachus seemed to fly against perceived wisdom saying that, "Sony is clearly playing catch-up in this area, but it's unclear whether online is the console purchase driver that Microsoft believes it to be. There seems to be a growing awareness that bad behaviour of online gamers has become an impediment to gameplay."
Still, Bachus did go on to say he rated Microsoft's chances this time around, although victory for the Redmond giant was far from a given. "360 still has a chance of winning the next-gen battle, but it's far from a certainty," said Bachus. "If Sony can leverage its brand, aggressively cut prices on both hardware and software, and deliver just a few platform-driving franchises as they've done in the past with Final Fantasy, GTA and others, they can quickly reverse Microsoft's early lead"
"If our industry's brief history has taught us anything it's that there are no set 'laws' regarding console adoption - despite what the manufacturers might claim."
So what factors will really determine the winner this time around? Well, Bachus believes it comes down to what gamers want: "At the end of the day, the questions on the minds of the gamers are: who has the best selection of games, whose games look and play best, which system can I afford, and which system are my friends buying? Neither Sony nor Microsoft can yet lay claim to those answers with certainty."
However, like most industry watchers, Bachus believes the competition will only benefit you, the ordinary gaming punter, concluding, "As always, the winners will be the consumers and the publishers ....This generation will be decided not on production capabilities or on technology, but on brand, price and content."

Since Tomb Raider II, Lara Croft's adventures have been on a steady decline, almost to the point where reruns of Relic Hunter were a better use of time. The last entry was so weak, many thought Lara had raided her last tomb. This actually turned out to be the case at long-time developer Core Design.
Enter Crystal Dynamics. Now it's time to forget about Angel of Darkness, the umpteenth Lara Croft model, the Guinness Book induction, and all the hype that has surrounded the rebirth of one of gaming's most famous franchises. Tomb Raider Legend is finally here, Lara is as irresistible as ever, and the game is worth the $40-60 you're about to shell out for it.
IGN (82/100) on all versions: "Crystal D's fresh approach, erudite design and execution, and its focus on good controls, smart puzzles, and competent combat, do the trick. They've resurrected an icon and a legacy from its tumultuous past by making the best and most definitive Tomb Raider yet."
TeamXbox (80/100) on the Xbox 360 version: "Lara looks mighty fine. Even on a non-HD television, the increased clarity of the bump mapping and lighting effects add to the entire Tomb Raider feel."
1UP (80/100) on all console versions: "Where Legend truly excels is in its sense of pacing. Gun battles are used as a sort of punctuation, bookends to the exploration and puzzle-solving at the core of the game. Legend's designers have an excellent sense of how a game should flow, and the result is an adventure that never becomes dull and rarely feels forced."
GameSpot (78/100) on all console versions: "Legend looks great on each of the consoles, with convincingly dark and decrepit environments and plenty of detail and lighting effects. The controls are a lot more fluid and responsive than they have been in previous Tomb Raider games, which makes Lara movements feel much more natural than before."

April 12th, 2006, 18:22 Posted By: wraggster
Microsoft is reportedly eyeing Eastern European, Middle Eastern, and South African launches for its console in the next 18 months.
After bringing the Xbox 360 to market in America, Canada, parts of Europe, and Japan last holiday season, Microsoft set to work filling in the territorial gaps in between. Already this year the console has launched in Mexico, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Colombia, Taiwan, New Zealand, and Australia, and at least one Microsoft suit has indicated a desire to launch in China in 2006. The list of Xbox 360-equipped countries looks to grow even more, as The Financial Times is reporting that Microsoft has plans to launch its system in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and South Africa in the next 18 months.
In particular, The Financial Times focuses on the Eastern Europe launch. It says Microsoft is aiming to target Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Russia with the Xbox 360, and that Microsoft's plans call for it to initiate the launch through specialty game retailers and international retailers like Germany's Media Markt or DSG International, the British owner of Dixons, Currys, and PC World. Outside of the UK, DSG's retail brands include Elkjøp, UniEuro, Kotsovolos, Electro World, and PC City.
Chris Lewis, Microsoft's head of Xbox operations for the regions in question, told The Times that the expansion into new territories was instrumental in the company's strategy to fend off Sony and its forthcoming PlayStation 3. He also said Microsoft, which has already made high-profile acquisitions of European development studios Rare and Lionhead, would continue to cater to European tastes, and possibly might create niche offerings for specific countries.

Multi-picture deal secured with Paramount Pictures
Significantly expanding the range of content available through Xbox Live and creating a unique cross-marketing initiative, Microsoft and Paramount Pictures have unveiled the new Xbox Movie Showcase service.
Beginning with the release of an HD trailer for Paramount's forthcoming summer blockbuster, Mission: Impossible III, the Movie Showcase will offer the rapidly expanding Xbox Live community a selection of free-to-download content that includes film trailers, exclusive themes, graphics and customisation content for the Xbox 360.
Additionally, featured movie stars including Jack Black (star of the forthcoming Nacho Libre, the trailer and digital content for which is soon to appear on Xbox Live) will also be taking part in Microsoft's community-based "Game with Fame", where gamers can enter for a chance to play an online game with their favourite celebrity.
Aaron Greenberg, group marketing manager, Xbox Live, commented: "Paramount shares our commitment to providing an entertaining and meaningful gaming experience for Xbox gamers. We're excited to be starting out on this multi-picture campaign and look forward to continuing to provide compelling entertainment experiences to gamers everywhere."
As part of the agreement, Paramount DVDs will also be promoted in Xbox 360 kiosks using a Digital Entertainment Lifestyle video in over 30,000 retail stores worldwide.
Gerry Rich, Paramount's president of worldwide motion picture marketing, added: "This ground-breaking agreement takes interactive marketing and digital entertainment to new heights, representing the perfect match between gamers and the summer movies they can't wait to see."
Microsoft's Xbox Live service, which is an integral part of the multimedia and community features of the Xbox 360 console, has achieved tremendous success so far, boasting a subscriber base of more than 2 million consumers worldwide, which continues to grow each day. According to the Microsoft, Xbox Live is used to send more than 600,000 text messages each day, and its Marketplace service has recorded over 10 million content downloads to date.

Alongside pirates and cowboys, Dwarves are highly-favoured amongst the CVG team. They covet shiny things, they live underground, drink like famished camels, but most importantly they're really good for crushing snooty elves in RTS skirmishes.
There's not many Dwarves in these new Battle for Middle-Earth II 360 screenshots sadly, but they've got our demand for pointy-eared war games surging none-the-less. We've already sampled the game on PC through a mouse and keyboard, but the 360 version promises tussles over Xbox Live and joypad controls that hopefully won't have us throwing our TVs out of the window in frustration.
The Battle for Middle-Earth 2 lands on Xbox 360 in June, hooded riders will no-doubt not be far behind.

This is a nice little mod, unfortunately it is for the original Xbox. Let’s just hope BrutalByte over at iHacked finds a way to do it for the 360. He installed a Netgear Wi-Fi adapter internally in the Xbox to allow a for a wireless connection without having messy adapters adding to the tangle mess already behind your entertainment center. Nice work, but forewarning, this may void your Xbox warranty and this mod does take a little bit of electronics know-how.

Now that Microsoft has finally managed to iron out its production issues for the next-generation console, the Redmond giant appears to be stepping up a gear, ramping up the orders for Xbox 360 chips from its Taiwan-based partners.
According to a report on the Digitimes website, translated from the Chinese language Commercial Times, the company has notified its Taiwan-based semiconductor partners that chip orders will be seriously ramped up, beginning this month.
The report claims that orders in the second quarter of the year are likely to double those of Q1, suggesting that Microsoft is making a determined effort to ensure that supplies of the machine are not only sufficient to cater for the current consumer demand, but plentiful enough to meet the traditionally hectic holiday season at the end of the year.
The company suffered considerable shortages in several territories following the tri-continent launch which began in the US last November, and continued component shortage issues have led to the retail supply only just beginning to filter through in any meaningful amounts.
With the imminent launch of both the Nintendo Revolution and Sony's PS3 in November, the last thing Microsoft needs is any further stock shortages that could damage its considerable market lead on its competitors.
The company recently announced plans to target Eastern Europe with the console, and following less than impressive sales in Japan, Microsoft has reaffirmed its commitment to conquering the Japanese market, making a concerted move to drive sales in the region with new promotions, locally relevant software launches and the introduction of a number of exclusive bundles and limited edition packages tied in with the World Cup.

It's table tennis. On Xbox 360. And it's coming from Rockstar. Although we'd love to reveal the presence of hidden car-jacking and crack-whore bashing mini-games and between-match bouts of throwing phosphorous grenades at cows, the project's all being served up (sorry, sorry) strictly straight-laced. By all accounts, it's a stellar virtual representation of the sport with equally stellar visuals coming courtesy of the power of Microsoft's next-gen machine.
Rockstar's bounced some new screenshots from Rockstar Games presents Table Tennis our way, so have a bit of a ping and a pong on us. We've also got the packshot for the game, which we're understandably very, very excited about. Enjoy.

Many of you will know i used to have an Interview site with Great Interviews with Coders from many Homebrew Scenes.
Well with that in mind, im going to try something unique and whilst it may fail it is something that ive never seen done before and thats a mass interview of all the members and thats 40,000 + members , whats going to happen is that ill ask maybe 10- 12 questions, one a day over a 2 week period to see who we are and what we love about emulation and homebrew.
So to start the ball rolling (remember never give personal info out unless you feel safe doing so) ill ask a question and answer it myself then its over to you the members of the only Console Homebrew Network in the world.
Question #1 - Can you tell us about yourself, where you're from, and about your job, school, etc?
(yes easy one to start but it lets people know about you)
Well im the webmaster of a group of sites now totalling 18 (mad git), ive been a fan and more of emulation and homebrew since at least 1997.
I am from the city of Nottingham in the UK, famous for Robin Hood, Torvill and Dean and Nottingham Forest and sadly Gun Crime capital of the UK (it seems that way anyway).
Went to school at 2 sites in probably the roughest part of the city but on the whole enjoyed school but was glad to be rid of it .
For my job ive been a Gardener on an award winning park for nearon 18 years (i am 34 btw) and whilst i enjoy my job i cant see me doing it for years to come.
So thats my answers, feel free to join in this experiment of a mass interview on the DCEmu Network, answer via the comments.

Jury selection will begin today in DeLand, Florida for three of the four men charged in the August 2004 murders of six during an attempt to retrieve an Xbox. Troy Victorino, 29, Robert Cannon and Michael Salas, both 20, and Jerone Hunter, 19, allegedly used aluminum baseball bats to beat to death Erin Belanger, 22, Michelle Nathan, 19, Francisco Ayo-Roman, 30, Anthony Vega, 34, Roberto Gonzalez, 28, and Jonathan Gleason, 17. The victims, some of whom were sleeping, did not resist the attack, which was charged by Victorino's insistence upon reclaiming his Xbox from Belanger.
Canon already pleaded guilty and will receive life in prison in exchange for his testimony. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for the remaining three defendants.

Localised Xbox Live service planned
Microsoft plans to launch the Xbox 360 in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and South Africa via both specialist and mainstream retailers by the end of 2008, according to European Xbox boss Chris Lewis.
Speaking to the Financial Times, Lewis said that launching in new territories was a key part of company strategy with regard to securing a strong foothold in the console market before the PlayStation 3 arrives in November.
Lewis identified Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland and Russia as key territories within Eastern Europe. He said that the Xbox 360 will go on sale in high street electronics retailers through deals with multinationals such as Media Markt and DSG International, as well as specialist retailers.
Lewis went on to say that each territory will have access to a localised version of Xbox Live, enabling them to communicate with other gamers using their own language, and that local helplines will also be established.
Europe is undoubtedly a key region for Microsoft with regard to the battle of the next-gen consoles. With the Xbox 360 performing well in the US but poorly in Japan, European sales could be the deciding factor in determining which of the big three leads the market following the release of the PS3 and Nintendo Revolution.
