If Fox news can help to secure an oaf as President of the most powerful nation on the planet, it sure as shit can announce a portable games machine from Microsoft and in the Seattle area on the West cost of the US - and it has just done exactly that.
Q13 Fox just stated as fact that Microsoft is 'developing a new portable games console, from the team that bought you the Xbox' offering no room for grey area in its report whatsoever. Given Seattle is the base of both Microsoft and Q13 Fox.

Xbox 360 will continue to deliver new online gaming and entertainment experiences including the "Battlefield 2: Modern Combat" game demo (Electronic Arts), the "Burnout Revenge" game trailer (Electronic Arts), and the "Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Horse Armor Pack" (Bethesda Softworks/2K Games) which will all be available this spring on Xbox Live Marketplace.

New technology designed for use by studios of all sizes
Microsoft has delivered a pre-release version of XNA Studio at the Game Developers Conference, also taking the opportunity to announce that Xbox Live is to be opened up to developers.
The event also saw the unveiling of the XNA Framework, which is designed to make life easier for developers working on multi-platform titles for the PC and Xbox 360.
Chris Satchell, general manager of Microsoft's Game Developer Group, said that XNA Studio will prove useful to a wide range of developers, regardless of the size of their company or project.
"Developers need a better way to make games and manage the production process. XNA Studio enables all developers - from major development studios to the two guys moonlighting on a dream project in their garage or dorm room - to create games in new, more efficient ways," Satchell said.
The preview version of XNA Studio includes what are described as "key components" of the system, such as a pre-release version of XNA Build, which is used for "orchestrating, debugging and optimising the game build pipeline," according to an official statement.
In an announcement regarding the opening up of the Xbox Live Server Platform, Microsoft stated: "Using this platform, developers can create their own back-end servers to run alongside Xbox Live."
The company hopes that the move will encourage more innovation in the field of online games, and provide more support for MMOGs. The tools required to create servers will be included in the new Xbox Development Kit, which is currently down for a release in May.

Since late last year when the first volley of Xbox 360s sold out near instantaneously we've been hearing the noise of Microsoft's wheels in motion to crank out more consoles. Well, today apparently they've "turned a major corner" as Peter Moore announced -- four to six weeks later -- that as of this week they're doubling to tripling their output to retailers. In other words, if you've been having a hard time getting your hands on a device (and are now especially disinclined to wait around until fall / winter for a PlayStation 3), this could be the week you have to call mom and ask for that loan after all.

It has taken a while, but at last, those Xbox 360 shortages appear to be a thing of past. Microsoft has announced that, starting this week, it will begin to distribute two to three times as many Xbox 360s to the retail channel on a weekly basis.
Naturally, the company's Peter Moore - now revelling in the impossibly arcane job title "corporate vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division" - could not contain his excitement: "Today we have turned a major corner. With more consoles on their way to retail, 80 games available by June, and new content and experiences coming to Xbox Live all the time, there has never been a better time to own an Xbox 360."
Microsoft also announced that new downloadable content is coming to the Xbox Live Marketplace, namely new cars and achievements for Project Gotham Racing 3, and multiplayer maps for Perfect Dark: Zero. And, the Seattle giant says, Kameo: elements of Power is about to acquire "new online cooperative gameplay options", while Kameo and her cohorts will be able to swan in new costumes available via the Xbox Live Marketplace. Another goodie due to make an appearance soon on Marketplace is the Horse Armour Pack for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Personally, we'd never dream of mounting a virtual horse unless it was heavily armoured.
Finally, Microsoft has pointed out that the Xbox Live Marketplace will soon be augmented by the games Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting, Uno and the free full version of Riverbelle's Texas Hold 'Em Poker. Can't wait.

The Xbox 360 Hacker has been interviewed heres the info - Source Xlife.nl
Key Points from the Xlife.nl Dutch interview with The Specialist
* The Specialist is 30 years old and is of Dutch origin, his occupation was not revealed in the interview.
* TS and his team began looking at the original Xbox firmware last year, and had a hunch their were similar patterns with the Xbox 360 firmware, there previous work on the original Xbox resulted in knowledge spill-overs with regards to Hacking the Xbox 360 firmware.
* They decided to really get stuck into hacking the Xbox 360, after Microsoft reps made statements about how hack-proof the Xbox 360 would be.
* TS and the rest of the contributors motivation was a personal challenge to find the exploits on the Xbox 360 and expore if it really was hack-proof.
* The firmware hack is way beyond the average user as specialist (cool pun eh ?) is required as well as correlating hardware.
* Microsoft can easily halt the firmware hack via as a back-up is much different to original, each and every one is different. To create emulation to allow universal Xbox 360 backups to be run without being detected is out of their scope.
* If other people can manage to replicate the Xbox 360 firmware hack, a cat and mouse game will develop between the hackers and Microsoft live updates. I guess in simiar fashion as to what is going on between Sony firmware updates and homebrew software blocking.
* TS went dived straight into the Xbox 360 firmware when looking for an exploit, he was very knowledgable in this area after the origial Xbox and was confident of finding a weak link in there.
* TS reassures everyone the video is not fake, for example look at the outer side of the disc that shows that the security placeholder data is read and if this as a fake in the video he only could fake it with a lot of work and very expensive equipment.
* He has no plans to go hacking any other parts of the Xbox 360, so Microsoft can breathe a sigh of relief over that one .
* Towards the end of the interview he adds, any game worth playing is a game worth buying. He doesn't want to take the moral high ground, the previous saying was from an old Amiga release group.
* He loves how his country is represented in the Xbox hacker scene, and hopes to see more natives around the scene.
Choppy Translation of the Interview from Xlife.nl
1. Xlife: Proposal you even to the visitors of Xlife.Netherlands (who are you, what does you for work, age etc.).
TheSpecialist:
The age question is frequently most indiscreet, but in this case some which I want answer, complete, I am 30 years.
2. Xlife: With hoevelen you have worked for the hack?
TheSpecialist:
In the team 6 hackers sat. However I do not find that you can state that it only these 6 persons have that this for each other had been got: without all contributions of others on XBH it had never succeeded or had it in any case much had been longer lasted.
3. Xlife: How long have you been effectively busy with the hack on X360?
TheSpecialist:
To say with difficulty how many hours will sit there in its eventually. We its end previous year started with the analysis of the Xbox 1 DVD beveiliging, since still nothing was here nearly confessed concerning. The expectation was, as it happens, that the beveiliging in the Xbox 360 be based on this and a good term of this beveiliging would give probably valuable insights in the beveiliging in the Xbox 360 (what proved be indeed this way). The reason that we with the Xbox 1 have started firstly, were mainly because the kernel were of this simply at rippen and we could retrieve thereby when the Xbox 1 kernel go ' agreed ' with DVD.
4. Xlife: Have you already had contact with Microsoft concerning the hack?
TheSpecialist:
No
5. Xlife: Why decided don't these hack have you make public?
TheSpecialist:
The Xbox 360 were announced Microsoft as if it the best protect console would be in the world and that the hackers scene be surprised by the unprecedented high level of beveiliging. This type statement does the heart of most of the hackers be correct of course more rapidly It seemed me personally an enormous select challenge or the beveiliging REAL this way well was. I think that this motivation applies to nearly all hackers on XBH. Zoeken to beveiligings breaches was therefore the aim an sich. Spreading hack has my inziens do NOTHING with hacken and also never our aim has been.
6. Xlife: Aren't you frightened that you have brought now people on ideën and that tries these now still your imitate hack and public make?
TheSpecialist:
I think first that the hack in current form little will be interesting for the average user, since you have specific hardware and knowledge necessary for the drive at flashen. Furthermore the current hack are easily at patchen by Microsoft, since the backup on several points differs from original and here on gechecked can become. ' impermeable ' emulator, which a backup in ALL possible manners presents exactly the same to the Xbox 360 falls outside our scope and this would will cost also rather much work. However, the possibility that a cat/mouse game will arise, where Microsoft with new patches come exists, hackers these will crack etc. This keeps however in that this way long there no ' impermeable emulator ' is, users of Xbox Live for example always risk runs become gebanned and will be obliged if they do not want this risk run, still original buy discs.
7. Xlife: You did right start firmware to the hack of the dvdrom or does have you has been tried still firstly other components of the console at hacken?
TheSpecialist:
No, right with the firmware. The project on XBH appears apart from for example the attempts of the men of free60.
8. Xlife: Is it also possible by means of Xboxlive play with your hack?
TheSpecialist:
At present therefore, however, until Microsoft come with patch.
9. Xlife: What find do you of it that it is speculated on many forums concerning the authenticity of the small film?
TheSpecialist:
The proof sits m. in the hardware details which do not stand on the forum, in the video. Meanwhile the original video gereleased, which makes in any case an end to the speculation of Xbox 360 in the reflection of the TV, is Furthermore I think that if you look at movements well to the laser yourself no longer can claim that it concerns fake. If you a backup in standard Xbox 360 stops, the laser will not move in such a manner (to see for example the movement to the outer edge of the disc, where security placeholder are read dates). Only with complete expensive equipment and much work and costs a video would be such as this at faken.
10 Xlife: Do you intend still further components of X360 at hacken?
TheSpecialist:
At present for that no plans are.
11. Xlife: There still is something that your lost wants to people who read this interview??
TheSpecialist:
Such as the release groups in former days on the amiga already said: ' a game worth playing are a game worth buying ' I do not want aboluut happen moralistically, but I always have been possible find itself and I hope others also. Furthermore I it found very nice to that see Netherlands were well represented on XBH and I hope greet in the future still more interesting Nl-ers to be allowed in this wereldje.
Thanks for this interview!

March 20th, 2006, 17:46 Posted By: wraggster
Respected San Jose Mercury gaming news journalist Dean Takahashi has unveiled some interesting details about Microsoft’s forthcoming handheld gaming device, which he uncovered in the reporting for his forthcoming book The Xbox 360 Uncloaked: The Real Story Behind Microsoft's Next-Generation Video Game Console.
Rumours have persisted for some time now that Microsoft is planning to leverage the Xbox gaming brand in the handheld sector - designing a product that combines video games, music and video in one handheld device – the so-called ‘iPod-killer’.
It seems that Microsoft apparently has some of its top gaming brass working on the project, with the ever-popular J Allard leading the project, Greg Gibson (system director on Xbox 360) in as project director, and Bryan Lee looking after the financial side of the business.
Greg Gibson is a 35-year-old electrical engineer who joined Microsoft in 1997 and in 2002 became the system designer in charge of the overall design of the Xbox 360.
Allard needs little introduction to regular SPOnG readers; a 36-year-old progammer who has commanded much of the hardware and software teams who put together the Xbox 360. Lee joined Microsoft as finance chief for the Xbox a few years ago.
Details on the project are still pretty thin on the ground, but the fact that Microsoft has assembled this dream team to head up the project clearly tells SPOnG that this is a key aspect of their strategy for the future of the Xbox brand.
Microsoft considered making an 'Xboy' game player a few years ago but shelved the idea. The Redmond-based behemoth also considered making a handheld videogame console at the same time it devised plans for the Xbox 360 in 2002 and 2003, but again decided to delay its entry into the handheld gaming market.
As SPOnG reported back in January, Peter Moore had said in a Business Week interview that the device, "...can't just be our version of the iPod'' and that the Xbox brand "...is an opportunity'' if and when Microsoft decides to enter the handheld market.
Microsoft unveiled the handheld Windows computer Project Origami last week, but that device is not being positioned as a portable entertainment centre.
According to Takahashi, Microsoft is still figuring out which strategy to pursue in music technology. 'Alexandria' is currently the code name for its music service, currently being mooted as the equivalent of Apple's world-ruling iTunes software.
Takahashi also states that: “One benefit of waiting longer is that the handheld will likely have sufficient technology in it to run a lot of original Xbox games from a few years ago. Hence, it wouldn't be hard to create a new library of games for the handheld.”
What with the recent announcements of PS1 games being made available for users to download onto their PSP, it’s not really hard to imagine a handheld running Xbox games being a technical and commercial reality in a relatively short space of time.
Takahashi also notes that Transmeta, a maker of low-power chip technology used in handheld devices with long battery lives had assigned 30 engineers late last year to work with Microsoft on a secret project.
All that remains to be seen, according to Takahashi, is when Microsoft will launch the device: “It could be 2007 before the device hits store shelves. That gives rivals such as Sony, Nintendo and Apple considerable time to consolidate their position and come up with their own new gadgets in the meantime.”

If US magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly is to be believed, Microsoft will soon offer Bungie's classic FPS Halo as a pay-to-play download via Xbox Live Marketplace, opening the floodgates to a massive back-catalogue roll-out for adopters of Xbox 360.
Halo is slated to be the first game offered by Microsoft, with other sources stating Ninja Gaiden is expected to follow within weeks. The games are expected to hit the increasingly concise online gaming portal in August of this year, with every first-party and Tecmo title release for Xbox likely to become available before the end of 2006.
No pricing was mentioned by either EGM or those talking to SPOnG over the weekend, though sources close to Microsoft did hint that the revised delivery of Xbox back-catalogue would herald the roll-out of larger 360 hard drives. Don't be at all surprised of you see HDs hitting retail that come with pre-paid Xbox game bundles in stores this summer.

Dean Takahashi of The Mercury News breaks news this morning that Microsoft is working on a portable gaming device that--like the PSP--does video, music, and games too. This news confirms numerous rumors that such a device was in the works.
J Allard is leading the team, with Greg Gibson (system designer for Xbox 360) and Bryan Lee (finance chief for Xbox business), according to the report.
The device is still in its early stages and may not hit store shelves until 2007, writes Takahashi. That's just about enough time for Sony's redesigned PSP and Nintendo's re-re-redesigned DS to be right there with it.

Beginning this Thursday, Xbox 360 owners will be able to download a demo of Battlefield 2: Modern Combat using the Xbox Live Marketplace service. The game is basically a graphically enhanced version of the PS2 and Xbox titles that shipped in October, but is a highly anticipated next gen release given the 360's thin library.
EA says the demo will include a sampling of the 24-player multiplayer action that is expected to drive sales. The launch date for Modern Combat is April 11.

Microsoft's J Allard is currently working on a new project to develop the company's first handheld console, according to Dean Takahashi, the author of a forthcoming book about the launch of the Xbox 360.
In an article for the San Jose Mercury, Takashi claims that "sources familiar with the project" have revealed that the new device will allow users to watch movies and listen to music as well as play games. Unlike the recently announced Origami tablet PC, the handheld's focus will be solely to deliver entertainment.
Takahasi said that Xbox executive J Allard is heading up the project together with Greg Gibson, who was system designer for the Xbox 360. Finance chief Bryan Lee will oversee the business side.
Takahashi also claimed that chip manufacturer Transmeta has already assigned 30 engineers to work on a "secret project" with Microsoft, and that Transmeta has experience of reducing chip power so that they can be used in handheld machines without causing too much of a drain on battery life.
Apparently Microsoft also intends to set up an iTunes-style digital music distribution service, codenamed Alexandria, and is currently considering its options with regard to music technology.
According to Takahashi's sources, the new handheld will not appear on shelves for at least a year, and possibly two, since those working on the project have only been free to devote their time since they finished work on the Xbox 360 in the autumn of last year.
Takashi is known to have high profile contacts within Microsoft - he published a book chronicling the story of the original Xbox in 2002, titled Opening the Xbox, and a similar book about the Xbox 360 is slated for publication later this year.
Microsoft has yet to comment on Takahashi's claims. However, in comments made earlier this year, Xbox boss Peter Moore hinted that the company might consider developing a multimedia handheld - adding that any such device "can't just be our version of the iPod."
