According to OXM.co.uk, a game developer recently tipped off CVG.com after seeing Microsoft's elusive Xbox 360 camera in action. The developer claimed to be impressed by the videochat feature. However, no comment was made about other possible functions of the camera—and no, users will never be able to customize their gamer pictures with the device. Is Microsoft finally ready to the release this peripheral?
Since unveiling the camera last year at E3, Microsoft has been reluctant to offer up any new details—suggesting that the idea might have been shelved. Many sources speculated that the recent dashboard update was going unlock the camera peripheral, but that hope has since come and gone. The delay is certainly associated with a concern for what the camera can be used for. Considering how one media outlet recently sensationalized the danger of the DS's Pictochat application, think of the media circus that would ensue an Xbox 360 peep show. Definitely not the kind of PR Microsoft is looking for. It may be an "impressive" device, but the Xbox 360 camera could never get past the inner offices of Xbox's most trusted.

The military will do everything it can to get a taste of what its armies will go up against when they are preparing to wage war. Espionage, satellite imagery, and historical reference all come in handy when scoping out potential battlegrounds. Thankfully, all THQ will ask of gamers is to simply wait a few minutes while a demo downloads.
The California-based publisher and developer has announced that it will be releasing a demo for The Outfit, the upcoming Xbox 360 World War II shooter from Relic Entertainment. The game pits players behind enemy lines, as they take on the Nazi regime in destructible environments. THQ has not yet announced when the demo will be available.
The sampling will be multiplayer-based and let six players enter the skirmish. Choosing either the Axis or the Allies, soldiers will play as one of three squad leaders, each with their own weapon set and abilities. THQ is also hyping the Destruction on Demand feature, which gives players the option of calling in heavy artillery in the form of tanks, air strikes, and more.
The publisher will also be outfitting the Xbox 360s of those who preorder The Outfit. A free, Outfit-themed faceplate will be given to those who put money down for the game at EB Games, GameStop, GameCrazy, or GameRush, while supplies last.

Yoshihiro Maruyama, the Microsoft executive who oversaw the launch of the Xbox 360 in Japan, is to take on a new role in the company's entertainment and devices division.
He will be replaced by Takahashi Sensui, who has been at Microsoft Japan for four years and worked closely with Maruyama on the Xbox 360 launch. Sensui, who was previously director of Xbox Japan's marketing department and game content group, will hold the title of general manager.
"Mr Maruyama played a key role in launching Xbox 360 in Japan," said Xbox executive Peter Moore
"He secured vital partner relationships that are crucial to the long-term success of the business in the region. Having achieved this, Mr. Maruyama will transition to a new role where his unique vision and foresight will be applied in a strategic capacity within the Entertainment and Devices organisation."
Sensui has committed to bolstering consumer take-up of the Xbox 360 in Japan, which has been slow since the console launched there in December. However, Sensui said he is confident sales will improve as more software titles reach the market.
Moore added: "Mr. Sensui will lead the business forward in Japan to build momentum at a time when key Japanese-developed games for Xbox 360 will soon be available."

Though the Xbox 360 hasn't seen many new full retail games in stores since its launch in late November (Dead or Alive 4 was released in late December), the latest game will no doubt be smashing. Sega's Full Auto, from developer Pseudo Interactive, shipped to stores today, says the publisher. The game is rated T for Teen and retails for $59.99.
In the game, players get behind the wheel of cars and race through cities in an attempt to cross the finish line before their opponents. The catch? Each car is outfitted with a menagerie of weapons. Not enough of a catch? The environment is fully destructible. Still not enough of a catch? Drivers can use the game's "unwreck" feature, allowing them to rewind a portion of time and race part of a track again.
The game features both single-player and multiplayer modes. The single-player mode has 80 different "events," and split-screen and Xbox Live modes allow up to 8 players to compete in different race types. In the game, there are 18 tracks to destroy, eight different weapon types to fire at enemies, and 21 vehicles to drive and wreck.

EyeToy's success showed that a wider gaming public had an appetite for innovative peripherals, and so it was really no surprise to discover Microsoft's plans for an Xbox 360 camera - a camera that may be drawing closer to release than we thought.
Originally pencilled in as part of plans for the console's launch, the 360's camera was jettisoned to make room for a smoother debut. However, the appearance of the camera is now apparently drawing extremely close, as it's been debuted and demo-ed to leading developers in the last week. It might even be unveiled at this year's Game Developers Conference in March, although E3 may be more likely.
Speaking exclusively to CVG, development sources said they'd been impressed by the camera's credentials, although anyone expecting an EyeToy-style gameplay revolution may have to hold their fire for the moment. The demo was largely confined to Messenger-style chat functionality, allowing you to see as well as speak to your friends and relations across Xbox Live and of course indulge in live video chat.
However, we have to say it probably won't be too long before MS and its various devs start to unveil code which utilises the camera in more innovative and imaginative gameplay ways. Still, even if it's a chance to taunt your opponents face to face for the moment that'd be a welcome start, but we'd put a cheeky tenner on some form of movement recognition software and EyeToy-style games accompanying the camera's release.
No word of course on what it'll be called either at the moment, so we're going to dub it the X-Toy - but it seems it won't be too long before you can cry 'lights, camera and action!' And maybe you can give MS some ideas - how would you like to see the X-Toy deployed to enhance your 360 gaming experience? Let us know in the comments field below.

Source - Gamesradar
We've received an official confirmation that Football Manager 2006 for Xbox 360 will require wannabe coaches to install a hard disk drive into their machines.
"We wanted to give Xbox 360 users a superior game experience with the same richness and tactical depth that Football Manager has traditionally offered," a Sega spokesperson informed us. "We asked Microsoft whether we could develop Football Manager 2006 to be a hard drive-only game."
Microsoft agreed to the request, enabling developer Sports Interactive to create the "complete Football Manager experience for console gamers, for the first time in the franchise's history". Xbox Live elements are also included in the game, along with a totally overhauled interface specifically designed for 360.
While this will irk owners of the core package - which didn't include the all important hard disk drive - it's a positive step towards fully utilising 360's incredible power, other than just making things look extra-specially pretty.
Football Manager 2006 will be released for Xbox 360 on 13 April

News from Lik Sang
Lightgun for Plasma TV. Lightgun for 100 Hz Television. Lightgun for LCD screen. Lightgun for VGA monitor. Lightgun for DLP projector TV. Lightgun for HDTV... If one of these was either on your Santa wish-list or in your recent Internet searches, you've been waiting long enough for this! The LCD TopGun for Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PC is coming to the rescue as it fits with just all the needs described above, running on any screen or television set you can imagine, old or new. Hell, it even is supposed to work with a retroprojector or with the upcoming SED technology from Toshiba! Presented for the first time to us at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair last Christmas, the LCD TopGun finally came out two weeks ago. The bad boy is selling like hot cakes ever since, and in between intensive shipping sessions, we also took the time to test it out with various screens and configurations. That's right, it's been two weeks we got paid to shoot zombies with an attitude, while listening to pumpin' 'n' pimpin' gansgta rap music real loud... "Lik Sang Clan ain't nothin' to f#@k with!"
The LCD TopGun is changing hands for US$ 34.95 only, quantity discounts are available for quantity purchases. We suggest getting an extra controller extension cord while you are it, to make sure you have the necessary comfort when playing from the recommended distance. We have stock of such cables for very low prices on both PlayStation 2 and Xbox.

Gael360 released a new GUI tool that will allows you to easily read/navigate the files/data on the Xbox 360 HD with a win32 PC. The application can't write files on the HD/Dump yet.
There are 2 ways to navigate (read) the Xbox360 HD:
* With the first button (Open File) to open a dump of the disc (faster and more secure)
* Or you can read directly from the disc (in that case the Xbox360 disc must be selected as default) by using the icon on the right (Open Disc)
This is the first version, the program will evolve in the coming days, including support for PIRS files.
Some info about the content of the disc:
* Cache: as the name says ... used for caching
* Content: sub-dir 0000... contains the demos and other things you downloaded from LIVE. The other sub-dirs are user profiles.
* mindex: contains music files (both the original music files that come with the HD and those you recorded/transfered)
* H2: unknown (something with Halo2?)
* Compatibility: Xbox 1 gamesaves
* $systemupdate: Last weeks system (kernel/dashboard) update? (seems to contain the dashboard/system files (xex files) flashed on the Xbox360 TSOP during the update)
Gael360 also released an update of wxTheme, a tool used to extract the content of Xbox 360 theme files.
The biggest difference is an improved handling of the PIRS format to allow extracting theme files located on the Xbox 360 HD.
You'll find the themes you downloaded from LIVE in this directory on your Xbox360 HD (atleast that's where they were on my console):
\Content\0000000000000000\FFFFE07D1\00030000
You can also use this software to open PIRS files other than themes files, but with some bugs. I'm working on a more stable application dedicated to PIRS files.

360gamesaves team have written a new piece of software which will allow you to acess access all 3 Xbox 360 Hard drive partitions, Memory Card or dumps, and better yet with write support.
"With the first batch of bugs coming in, one being a bit problematic. We've wrapped all those fixes up into this build. This is beta software and should be used at your own risk until Final versions are available.
*Bug Fixes*
-Off by one error in filename length check fixed
-Recursive delete functions fixed / Delete from tree fixed
-Injection of file with same name fixed. Asks to overwrite.
BUG: One confirmed bug has been found and can be harmful if not known. Do not attempt to insert a file with the same name into a folder. If the filename already exists, delete it then insert your new one. Look for an updated/fixed build soon.
Here it is! The highly anticipated release of Xplorer360. This is beta software and needs testing. What better way then let you guys find the bugs!
Too many features to list but here are a few:
*FULL Read/Write to 360 HDDs.
*FULL Read/Write to 360 Memory Units.
*Physical and Logical drive access.
*Support for opening of dumps of both devices.
*Backup/Restore dump options."

Another day, another compromised closed-source project. The XBox 360 filesystem has been cracked wide open and you can now move saved games to and from your 360 using a piece of software called xplorer360, a SATA cable, and/or a hacked USB cable.
The program allows you to browse the entire 360 and even lets you drag files from your original XBox over to the 360, which, as we know, used to be impossible. There is even a new site, 360gamesaves, where you can trade saved games with others. This doesn’t mean you can copy retail games, but it’s a nice trick and offers up some interesting potential for future byte-diddling.

Supply problems over "within four to six weeks"
Microsoft's Peter Moore has announced that Xbox 360 shortages should soon be at an end, stating: "Within the next four to six weeks, anybody will be able to walk into a store and buy an Xbox 360."
Moore's comments came as part of his keynote speech at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas. He attributed the stock supply problems to component shortages, adding that these issues have now been resolved.
"Now we're starting to cook. We're building a vibrant, rich and profitable business model for the future," Moore said.
He admitted that the problems were also caused in part by the fact that the console launched in North America, Europe and Japan almost simultaneously, but said while this strategy was controversial, "It was the right decision."
"It's what we needed to do to bring next-gen gaming to a global audience. There have been short-term shortages, but we're driving a clear advantage as we go forward," Moore said.
He went on to highlight the success of the Xbox Live service, stating that more than four million pieces of content have been downloaded since launch. While only 10 per cent of original Xbox owners have used the service, 54 per cent of Xbox 360 owners have connected to Xbox Live - and Microsoft intends to "maintain that all the way through Xbox 360's life cycle."
Moore also said that Xbox Live Arcade, which he billed as "The Sundance of independent games," has proved extremely popular with Xbox 360 owners. So far there have been 2 million downloads, and more than 35 per cent of gamers who downloaded the playable demo for Geometry Wars went on to buy the full game - an impressive statistic, said Moore.
"Nothing normally converts from sample to purchase at a rate of 35 percent. It's proof positive that we are dragging gaming into the online era."

February 9th, 2006, 19:06 Posted By: wraggster
Korean developer Blueside Studios is trying something new with its Kingdom Under Fire franchise. Its next game for the Xbox 360, Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom, isn't just taking the series onto a new platform--it's taking it into a new genre.
Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders and Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes were lauded for their mix of action and real-time strategy elements, but Blueside is deviating from the formula by making Circle of Doom an action role-playing game. Instead of taking to the field of battle in command of an army, players will explore randomly generated dungeons, learn new abilities, customize their weapons, and stave off enemies "swarming the screen in thousands," according to Blueside.
One thousand-on-one doesn't sound like a fair fight, but players will be able to better those odds by forming a four-player party through Xbox Live to hack their way through Circle of Doom together. Blueside is promising that players will be able to take their solo characters online for the multiplayer action or form a party of new characters that may have more complementary skill sets.
While the developers are taking a new tack for Circle of Doom, Kingdom Under Fire purists can take some solace in that this is not a direct successor to the series. Blueside has said that it is merely a link between the previous Kingdom Under Fire titles and the next, still unannounced, proper installment of the series.
