At last you can kiss disposable batteries goodbye! The Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit is all you need to juice up your wireless controller, even in the midst of battle.
Play & Charge Kit with NiMH Battery is simple to use. Just fit the supplied battery pack in your wireless Xb360 controller, and connect your controller to your console with the Play & Charge cable. The rechargeable NiMH battery pack is charged while you play! A red light on the cable indicates it's charging. When this turns green, you're fully charged - disconnect the Play & Charge cable and return to wireless gaming.
Fully charging the NiMH battery takes up to six hours, after which it will give 30 hours of uninterrupted wireless action. Why not buy one for each hand controller so all your friends can join in the fun?
Play & Charge Kit with NiMH Battery is in the shops this month, and costs £14.99/$14.99.

Here’s some news for fans of massive fighting robots. If you are gagging for some metal-on-metal online action exclusively on your Xbox 360, then perhaps Namco Bandai’s just-announced mech-fighter Mobile Ops: The One Year War is going to be all of your dirtiest, over-sized robotic dreams all rolled into one.
Check out the first screens, which SPOnG has just received: they make us want to clamber right up into the head of a big robot and smash the living daylights out of other Metal Mickies the world over.
The game is described as "...a next-generation mechanized shooter exclusively for the Xbox 360 …. [featuring] beautifully detailed graphics, a wide array of giant mobile suits, and intense multi-player combat to deliver an exhilarating experience in mechanized warfare."
The story – always kind of incidental to the main action in Mech-bashing - opens with the space colonists' brutal battle for independence from The Earth Federation: “Advanced ECM (Electronic Countermeasures) has rendered range sensors and communications useless, resulting in the rise of new war machines called mobile suits. These ultimate instruments of destruction, capable of metal-clashing hand-to-hand combat, completely redefine modern warfare.”
Oh, here we go! Modern warfare has been re-defined AGAIN! By huge robotic machines. Yoshi Niki, business director at Namco Bandai Games America Inc., had the following to say about the title: "With dramatic cockpit views and exquisitely detailed mobile suits, we fully expect 'Mobile Ops' to immerse gamers into a futuristic world where giant mechas loom against a war-torn horizon…. players can choose to engage enemies on foot, in vehicles or in mobile suits."
Storyline aside, Mobile Ops Team played over Xbox Live is sure to be a winner. The game also promises loads of customisation options, including beam sabres, heat hawks, and other melee weapons. From the looks of these first screens, the highly detailed HD graphics - right down to the brown rust on metal and stress damage from combat – promise to deliver a Mech-fighting, steel-on-steel orgy of pretend violence, the likes of which has never been seen before.

April 24th, 2006, 19:33 Posted By: wraggster
Several gallons of fuel have be chucked onto the Xbox 360 E3 gossip fires today, OXM.co.uk, is reporting, sending the worldwide renowned 'What the hell is Microsoft to announce at E3 2006?' rumour-cum-speculation-o-meter into red as the major videogame event creeps closer.
According to OXM.co.uk, the Xbox 360 pre-E3 rumour overload originated in a post in the forum of Spanish-language website MeriStation.com, with the source - apparently said to be "very trustworthy" - providing the details claiming that the info will be made official at E3, which kicks off with Microsoft's press conference on May 8 in Los Angeles.
None of what's been 'revealed' has been confirmed officially by Microsoft naturally, but the source has detailed such Xbox 360-related E3 happenings as price cuts for Xbox 360 Core and Premium packages to be announced, Halo 3 being shown in video form and an unveiling of Rare-developed Kameo 2.
In fact, there's so much rumour that's dropped out the internet bomb bay doors that, even it's all actually been constructed by a hyper eager fanboy, it's possible some will strike true.
Obviously, have that truckload of salt to hand, but below is the tastiest of what's being whispered in darkened corridors about Microsoft's Xbox 360 E3 announcements (and many thanks to the OXM.co.uk chaps for their opinions on the rumours whipping around).
Rumour: Microsoft is planning to slash the price of the Xbox 360 Premium Pack and Xbox 360 Core Pack by around 80 Euros (55).
Truth or bollocks?: It's very soon for Microsoft to be cutting console prices, especially by around 25%. But the price of the original Xbox was cut by a similar amount only months after it was released in 2002, and a 150 Xbox 360 would be a real problem for Sony when they launch the PS3 in November...
Rumour: Halo 3 will be at E3 in video form, but will not be available until March 2007.
Truth or bollocks?: The whispers we've heard point to Halo 3 definitely putting in a non-playable appearance at E3, and although Microsoft would love to get it out in time to spoil the PS3 party we reckon a March 2007 release is pretty realistic.
Rumour: Microsoft is planning to cut the cost of a subscription to Xbox Live Gold, or make it totally free if you agree to receive advertisements on your dashboard. This is expected to happen in October.
Truth or bollocks?: Waiving the cost of Xbox Live Gold in exchange for receiving adverts is a business model the games industry wants to move towards - Tiger's ill-fated handheld Gizmondo tried it, but that's a bad example. And cutting the cost of Gold? Seems like a good idea, especially in the month before Sony's new and untested online service goes online.
Rumour: Rare has been working on Kameo 2 since before the first game was even launched. It will take better advantage of the Xbox 360's power and will be fully Xbox Live.
Truth or bollocks?: Kameo has sold very well on Xbox 360, so a sequel isn't a surprise. Plus, the original game is more or less a straight port from the old Xbox version, so we imagine Rare would like to build a new game from the ground up to stretch the Xbox 360 fully. Rare also recently released a coop Xbox Live patch for the original game.
Rumour: The external HD-DVD drive will be available in September, will connect to the console via USB 2.0, and will be priced at around 95 Euros (65).
Truth or bollocks?: Microsoft Europe exec Chris Lewis said last week that the drive would be at E3 so that's looking good. USB 2.0 (a much faster connection than standard USB) makes sense too. And that attractive price line up with the price of the first PC HD-DVD drives, so it's not out of the question.
Rumour: The Xbox 360 Camera will be called "My Eye On You", will be available in September, and will cost 47 Euros (30) on its own or 77 Euros (50) with a game.
Truth or bollocks?: We were expecting the Camera to be at E3 and to be available around September. The pricing is just about in line with Sony's EyeToy camera, so that also looks good. But that name? It's not very good, and it's a bit creepy...
Rumour: Microsoft has signed a partnership with US TV network NBC to broadcast Xbox Live games and tournaments on television as if they were spectator sports.
Truth or bollocks?: Recent Xbox Live updates have moved towards this kind of service, and Microsoft is planning far more Xbox Live tournaments in the future (the Xbox Cup and the Project Gotham Racing 3 Global Tournament are two current examples). Broadcasting these tournaments on television like sport could be a good way to reach a more mainstream audience.
Rumour: Before October you'll be able to play classic arcade games from companies like Sega on a 'virtual console'.
Truth or bollocks?: This sounds a bit daft considering the Xbox Live Arcade system is already in place (and is already delivering classic games like Smash TV and Joust). Sega has mentioned to us that it has plans for Xbox Live Arcade too, so we reckon something's got mixed up here.
Well that's quite enough rumours/truth to be getting on with, so let the forum comments frenzy commence!

Capcom has released a clutch of shots for its upcoming sci-fi shooter Lost Planet, which will be released early next year for Xbox 360.
Set on a hostile ice planet, Lost Planet follows the story of a young pilot called Wayne (great hero name) as he and a small band of humans try to repel the attention of the monstrous indigenous life forms, as well as an aggressive invading alien army.
The action is presented from a third-person perspective as the humans brave the elements to get hold of the thermal energy they need to survive. Aiding them in their quest is an impressive array of futuristic weaponry and a collection of all-terrain vehicles.
As you can see from the screenshots, Lost Planet is an incredible looking game that uses 'advanced light sourcing' to create the realistic look. There are also incredible weather effects which leave you in no doubt about the ferocity of the elements.
Lost Planet will be Xbox Live enabled with cooperative and competitive play, as well as downloadable content.
From the demos we've seen already, Lost Planet really does look spectacular and, with the creators of Devil May Cry and Onimusha on the development team, we're expecting big things from this frosty shooter.

Can't wait for the World Cup? Xbox Live gamers with a copy of EA's 2006 FIFA World Cup, on sale in the UK from April 28, will be able to play multiplayer games (usually only available to Xbox Live Gold members) for free during the week of May 8 to May 15, 2006.
To access Xbox Live during the Free-For-All, all you need to do is plug a broadband cable into the back of your Xbox 360 console. Sign up for the standard Xbox Live Silver membership, and it will be upgraded to the gold package automatically on May 8th. Gold members will also be able to download the premium content only available to subscribers during the week.
As well as the chance to take on other players at 2006 FIFA World Cup, there will be limited edition consoles and free subscriptions to Xbox Live up for grabs during the Football Free-For-All.
The upgraded membership during the Free-For-All also gives players a chance to register for the Xbox Cup. The Xbox Cup, launched by Xbox, adidas and Electronic Arts, aims to find gamers to represent the UK in Germany this summer during the FIFA World Cup Finals. Teams from around the world will compete for prizes that include tickets from adidas to the FIFA World Cup. Whoever has the top spot on the Xbox Cup leaderboard on May 24 will be representing the UK in Germany.
Tottenham's Ledley King said: "The Xbox Live Football Free-For-All Week is a great chance for everyone to take on their friends over Xbox Live and I'll certainly be looking out for some of my team mates online to give them a game!"

Game Republic is working on another Xbox 360 game, according to charismatic front man and former Capcom type Yoshiki Okamoto.
Sadly though, the cat isn't so much out of the bag as faintly outlined against the exterior - Okamoto's simply said that while the game hasn't been announced yet, "it's safe to say that this game is well worth looking forward to". Sounds excellent!
Game Republic's already worked on Xbox 360, of course, having delivered Japanese launch title Everyparty - something we're still waiting to see over here.
That itself was a bit of a departure though; Game Republic's biggest recent title is PS2 exclusive Genji: Dawn of the Samurai, an action game with an inventive combat system that nearly did the trick for us, but not quite.
There's no word on when we can expect to hear more about Okamoto's project, but given the proximity of E3 it's entirely likely it'll be something Microsoft shouts about during its press conference on 9th May.

Eidos' World War II title Battlestations: Midway will debut on Xbox 360 and PC this autumn, the publisher's announced, while current-gen console title Urban Chaos: Riot Response has been given a solid release date of May 19th on PS2 and Xbox.
Developed by Eidos Studios, Hungary, Battlestations mixes Pacific air and sea battles - both on and under the surface - and gives players control of dozens of units in a free control environment, allowing players to hop from the deck of a battleship to the controls of a fighter plane or the bridge of a submarine at will. It'll include both single and multiplayer options - the latter including co-op. PS2 and Xbox versions are also planned.
Meanwhile, Urban Chaos, developed by Londoners Rocksteady Studios, puts players into an elite police counter-gang unit called T-Zero as a former US marine. You'll team up with firefighters, paramedics and regular police to take on all sorts of threats, bombs and hostage scenarios.

Those of you still undecided about Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter have another chance to try it out on Xbox 360.
With a multiplayer demo already available, Ubisoft's released a campaign mission single-player demo to give you an idea of how it all works offline.
It weighs in at 747MB. You pick your loadout, admire your squad-mates' faces and then swoop low over Mexico City in a chopper before landing in the streets and making off with your team.
The full game features a decent-length campaign as well as a large variety of multiplayer options over Xbox Live.

Microsoft is set to move the manufacturing of the Xbox 360's CPUs to a more advanced 65 nanometre process, and has signed a new agreement with Singapore-based Chartered Semiconductor to build the chips using its advanced Silicon-On-Insulator technology.
Chartered Semiconductor is currently manufacturing the CPU using 90nm SOI processes, and the upgrade in technology to 65nm will potentially reduce both heat and power consumption, as well as lowering manufacturing costs for Microsoft's next-generation console. The first consoles incorporating the new CPUs are set to appear in the first quarter of 2007.
Kay Chai Ang, SVP of fab operations at Chartered, commented: "We are excited to expand our manufacturing relationship with Microsoft and leverage the innovative 65nm SOI technology made available to us through our agreement with IBM. By working closely with IBM to enable manufacturing compatibility and dual-sourcing capability, our goal is to continue to be a reliable manufacturing source to Microsoft."
"We look forward to working with Chartered on the production of such an important component of our Xbox 360 system," added Larry Yang, GM of Xbox console development at Microsoft. "We plan to continue with our strategy of dual sourcing from Chartered and IBM's fabs, which are operationally aligned and compatible, to give us the consistent product quality and flexibility we will need."
The move marks another step in Microsoft's concerted efforts to increase its production capacity for the Xbox 360, the company recently doubling Xbox 360 chip orders from several Taiwanese manufacturing partners, with Zhongshan-based Winstron Corp announcing an expansion of its manufacturing facility to meet the demand for 1m Xbox 360 consoles per month.

April 21st, 2006, 00:52 Posted By: wraggster
So word on the street is Microsoft's all set to announce the Xbox 360's external HD DVD drive at E3 -- which makes perfect sense, in all reality. They did, after all, claim it would be released "this year" when Gates unveiled their plans at CES, and since they launched the 360 at E3 last year, they've got to have something to show off this year while Sony and Nintendo get closer to their respective impending PlayStation 3 and Revolution launches. Chris Lewis, Microsoft Regional Vice President for Europe, the Middle East and Africa sat down with Spiegel Online and let them know that we'll more than likely be seeing an HD DVD announcement at E3 (in addition to that Xbox camera we heard would launch next month), and alluded to the inclusion of HDCP compliance for the Xbox, which could only imply they'll finally release that freaking DVI cable. On the PS3 and Blu-ray, Lewis even volunteered that "Blu-ray right now reminds us of another technology from Sony: Betamax." without even being directly asked. Oh, this war is on, friends, make no mistake about it, and we'll see you at the battlegrounds of E3.

Nes6502 has released a new version of his port of the Zsnes the Super Nintendo emulator to Xbox:
Whats New:
The wrong frequency (44100) was being used for sound output. The correct frequency for the SNES is 32000. This is corrected. The result is MUCH more accurate sound. To hear the difference try Starfox and shoot the buildings with the new version. It makes the correct metalic ping sound. Then compare this to the same sound generated with the 1.0 version.
New features added:
1) Save States
2) Fast Forward
My TOP priority now is a resizable/movable screen. I will try to get a 1.2 release out with this feature in the next couple days.

Hmm, bored of looking at that plain white 360 faceplate or already fatigued by the view from your latest game's 360 skin? Well why not create your own using your own designs, custom artwork, naughty pictures, or the scribbles you make when they allow you sharp instruments once a week.
Yes, well now you can live that particular dream courtesy of those nice folks over at Nyko, who've produced a DIY 360 faceplate kit which allows you to create 360 skins in the comfort of your own home, or indeed padded cell.
What you get for your $19.99 is six pre-printed designs, plus 15 blank templates and a two piece faceplate which houses the skins upon which you can make your grand 360 designs. A quick download from Nyko.com, provides the software to build your templates, then you print them out and within minutes probably, you could be snapping a brand new custom designed faceplate onto your 360.
Several lurid suggestions have already been made by the CVG team as to what they'd have on their custom 360 faceplate, most involving imaginative use of the ring of light, but a straw poll rapidly revealed a PlayStation 3 one would be a surprisingly popular option.
"Microsoft designed a product with a removable faceplate; Nyko is answering the gamers' call to fully exploit the fun option of personalizing the 360," commented Susan Corben Cox, vice president of marketing, Nyko Technologies. "At Nyko, we listen to the gamers, and design products to enhance their gaming lifestyle."
Unfortunately, it looks like the faceplate is only being released in the States at the moment, but we're just in the process of finding out if it's going to make its way over here to Euroland. In the meantime, if you just can't wait, there's always the magic of mail order.
