They also announced a screenshot contest:
Welcome to our first screenshot scenario contest! For this scenario, you will be fighting a grenadier in the Medical Pavilion of Rapture. You are armed with your trusty wrench and a shotgun, but unfortunately the shotgun has only one cartridge left. You also have the electro bolt plasmid, and the telekinesis plasmid.
The grenadier is armed with handmade grenades which he is throwing at you.
Happy submissions! Click the link below to email your 1000-word-or-less solution to me.
Remember: There is no "right answer" for this contest -- We have counted at least six different ways to take down this grenadier.
We'll be posting the text of all the possible solutions we receive, and I will choose one of the most creative options to film and post in two weeks time.

It takes a certain amount of spirit to be a Zune user in the first place, so when the few, the proud discovered odd bugs in their precious "social" DAPs, and then learned that Microsoft was not only not fixing these problems, but not even confirming a fix was in the works, you can imagine the outcry was rather vocal. Well, the Zune Insider blog has finally spoken up on the subject, and is promising a 1.3 firmware update around March 20th to fix the most obvious of problems, such as Zune Marketplace content skipping, FM tuner battery drainage, and syncing hassles. Unfortunately, the other vocal half of the social, the ones with few bugs, but a whole lot of feature requests, is going to get shafted with this update -- still no wireless syncing, still no podcasting, still no transmogrifier. At least Microsoft has confirmed those requests, and says the Zune team is "working on making Zune better," and not just blowing all the Zune cash on hip-cool ads.

Signs are indicating that Grand Theft Auto IV will feature ground-breaking technology used in LucasArts' new Star Wars game, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
Rockstar has partnered with NaturalMotion to use the latter company's euphoria engine in "upcoming next generation" games.
Employed in the recently revealed The Force Unleashed, euphoria simulates the human body and motor nervous system. It means that in-game characters are fully interactive and always react differently to external influences, ultimately leading to a more life-like experience for the player.
Specific reference to how euphoria "uses the processing power of PLAYSTATION 3 and Xbox 360" to simluate the human body and motor nervous system was made in the announcement.
While Rockstar is yet to name games using euphoria, its integration of the tech is well advanced.

A rumour is beginning to spread around the internet suggesting that there will be two different Halo 3 Betas.
If the rumour turns out to be right, the first session of the Halo 3 multiplayer Beta test will only be for competition winners and will commence on March 21, just days before the launch of PS3 in Europe.
Those that bought Crackdown, which includes an invitation to the beta test, will have to wait a little longer, as the rumour on The Above Domain says that a second session for those gamers will kick-off in May.
Microsoft and Bungie have yet to state when the Beta will officially launch. The date is currently set at "late spring".

The first details have emerged on Stuntman: Ignition, the sequel to the PS2 original previously published by Atari.
The premise for the new Stuntman has essentially remained the same. As a Hollywood stunt driver you're tasked with performing action-packed film sequences with your precision driving skills, dragging your career higher the more spectacular your stunts are.
Over 25 vehicles are promised for the PS3, 360 and PS2 sequel, and 36 stunt runs spread across six themed films and commercials, reports IGN.
The most interesting part of Stuntman 2 however appears to be the online mode, which lets you challenge up to eight other stuntmen and steal stunts from them in multiplayer arenas. With the stunt construction toolkit you can also plan out your own stunts online and see if anyone can meet your challenge, or miss the mark and crash in to a house like some kind of stuntman nancy.
Bob Aniello, senior VP of worldwide marketing at THQ said, "The game brings a unique approach to the genre, encouraging gamers to perfect their racing technique while creating their own personalized Hollywood stuntman experience."
Stuntman: Ignition is currently pencilled in for this summer. Look for the first screens and movies soon.

Sensible Soccer, the classic arcade football hit, is headed for to Xbox Live Arcade using the gameplay from fan favourite Sensible World of Soccer 96/97.
In this Q&A, Codemasters director of casual gaming, Nick Pili details exactly what new features will be built into the game, such as Xbox Live support, and what aspects of the classic will be left untouched.
Could you briefly outline your involvement with the Sensible World of Soccer (SWOS) project?
Pili: During a series of meetings last summer with Microsoft at the 2006 Casual Games Conference in Seattle we were discussing a number of XBLA game opportunities.
Microsoft were keen to have an easy to pick-up-and-play football game for the XBLA platform - a Sensi type game seemed like the obvious choice.
After presenting the business case internally for a SWOS XBLA game, supported by the overwhelming interest of the SWOS community it was a no-brainer to take this project forward.
Is this version of SWOS just an online version of last year's Sensible Soccer?
Pili: No - the game is different from last year's. We have listened very carefully to the Sensi communities' comments after last year's game and I'm pleased to confirm the following:
In this version the user will be able to play two main modes of SWOS. Mode 1 will be the original Amiga game (we haven't touched the core game code) with enhanced graphics and enhanced game features.
Mode 2 will be the actual original Amiga game from the mid 90s. Again we haven't altered the game code in any way.
Will the gameplay differ from the Amiga/PC/SNES version?
Pili: No - as stated above it will be the EXACT core gameplay that we all remember from the Amiga/PC/SNES versions.
Which version of SWOS does this game's code use (either of the all-conquering 95/96 or 96/97 versions hopefully)?
Pili: To produce the authentic SWOS experience we'll be using the original source code used in SWOS 96/97, so you can celebrate now! The core gameplay will be untouched, and therefore identical to that within the SWOS96/97 game.
Is there any new or changed audio (crowd chants or songs)?
Pili: Yes - in Mode 1 of the game (see question 2) we're improving the audio and crowd chants.
Will it feature Xbox Live functionality? What online tournaments and features can we expect from this?
Pili: Yes - you'll be able to play online and there will be high-score tables all as standard. We'll announce more details in due course.
Can you reveal any of the achievements planned for the XBLA version?
Pili: Watch this space - details to be announced in due course.
Can I play the game in HD resolution?
Pili: Yes - the game will support HD resolutions as standard.
Is there going to be a PC release?
Pili: Yes - we can confirm that later in the year we will be releasing a PC version for Vista-based machines.
Is the PC release just for Vista or can people on Win2k and XP play it?
Pili: So far just Vista. We hope to provide the game for more OS in the future though.
What online tournaments and features can we expect from the PC version?
Pili: We are currently working with Microsoft to understand exactly how the new Windows Live functionality will work. Once we figure this out we will be able to confirm what online tournaments and features we can apply to the Vista version of SWOS.
When do you expect to release the game on XBLA?
Pili: Summer 2007. We'll confirm a more accurate date in the very near future!

Microsoft will introduce a £19.99 Platinum Hits range across Europe this month, which coincides nicely with the PS3 launch.
"Platinum Hits lets gamers enjoy a broad portfolio of titles at an amazing price and ensures that gamers can get the most from their Xbox 360 with a great library of blockbuster hits," said Jeff Bell, corporate VP of global marketing.
The Platinum Hits range has been doing the rounds in the US since last October. Forthcoming titles due on the budget label will include Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, Burnout Revenge, Fight Night Round 3 and Top Spin 2.
Chances are these will form the second wave of Platinum Hits games for Europe.

Tomorrow Battlestations: Midway players will get the chance to engage in fresh new Pacific battles as two new historical battle maps and brand new vehicles become available on Xbox Live Marketplace.
The new battle maps will re-enact two epic battles from the Pacific war: The Battle of Sibuyan Sea and The Raid on Truk. Both maps and five new vehicles will be available to download from March 1st.
The Battle of the Sibuyan Sea provides a new multi player experience based on one of the major battles of the Leyte Gulf Campaign, the greatest naval warfare battle in history that effectively destroyed the Japanese fleet in October of 1944. Players command either the US Fleet featuring the USS Iowa and USS Enterprise or Japan’s finest fleet, Kurita, featuring the super battleships Yamato and the ill-fated Musashi.
The single player battle, The Raid on Truk, is based on Operation Hailstone, a massive naval air and surface attack launched by the United States Navy against the Japanese naval and air base at Truk. The devastating attack took place in mid-February 1944. Players command the US Fleet in a four phase battle starting with a P-38 air strike and leading to the command of the USS Enterprise and her screening force.
The new battles will also feature a new and unique set of air, sea, and undersea vehicles that will challenge the player’s skills and naval strategies:
P-38 Lightning
A fast, powerful and distinctive twin-engine interceptor and one of the most important American fighters of the Second World War. Its long range and twin engines made it well suited for duty in the Pacific.
Nakijima J1N1 Gekko
The first Japanese aircraft designed and built specifically to intercept and destroy other aircraft at night. It was deadly against Bombers and as a powerful kamikaze plane against ships.
USS Iowa (BB-61)
The lead battleship of its class. Nicknamed ”The Big Stick”, this famous flagship fought in numerous and significant battles in World War II and the Korean War.
IJN Shimakaze
The IJN Shimakaze (“Island Wind’) is considered to be the fastest and most powerful Destroyer of World War II and she was the only one of her class built.
Type A mini-sub
The Type A mini-sub was a two-man submarine. Difficult to detect, the Type A submarines were used during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and throughout the war.

via IGN, Reader Q&A with Casey Hudson, Project Director of Mass Effect
Does “Mass Effect” fit on one disc?
Yep, but just barely. This is a monstrous game. In fact, there was a time – not too long ago – when we pretty much scoffed at the idea of fitting onto one disc. But, there’s an art to optimizing the data that goes on a disc – plus we have a few programmers that seem to pull off magic tricks right when we need them.

While we appreciate Microsoft's concessions to the DIY gaming community with the XNA Game Studio Express, that's still small compensation for the fact that at the end of the day, that $400 white box in our living room isn't quite "ours" -- Microsoft still calls the shots as to what code can push that hardware around. At least until today. Apparently a vulnerability has been discovered, and while the jargon is rather over our heads, it doesn't take a hax0r to understand the potential upshot: homebrew on the 360. The word is that there's a "critical vulnerability in Microsoft's Xbox 360 that allows privilege escalation into hypervisor mode." Toss in a method to "inject data into non-privileged memory areas" and you've got "an attacker with physical access to an Xbox 360 to run arbitrary code such as alternative operating systems with full privileges and full hardware access." Sounds like a good time for all! The exploit works in kernel 4532 and 4548, but Microsoft is aware of the flaw, and has patched kernel 4552, which was released on January 9th. We can't quite tell if this will actually mean that Joe consumer will end up with homebrew as a result of this hack, but it's promising all the same.

February 27th, 2007, 20:30 Posted By: wraggster
Xbox Microsoft boss Peter Moore has hinted at a change in strategy for Xbox 360 going into 2007, to compete with the mainstream appeal of Nintendo's fun-focused Wii.
"From a first-party point of view, it's not just about E-rated games, it's going to be about the experience that, quite frankly, Nintendo has done a tremendous job in capturing, in bringing back fun - if you will - to the gaming platforms," said Moore in an interview with Game Informer.
"But we've got a few tricks up our sleeve as well to be able to do that. It's not something that we're going to be shy about, and it's not something that we're not painfully aware of that needs to be changed by this holiday. That has been the strategy all along, and we'll be making some more announcements in the coming month or two."
Could Microsoft, the only company in the console war without a motion-sensing controller, be cooking up some sort of motion-controlled trickery?

An analysis report on the current console war leading up to 2010 cites PS3 and Xbox 360 will dominate over Wii in all major territories.
The report by Screen Digest's Ed Barton, forecasts that the leading console will differ for each territory, predicting the PS3 to overtake Xbox 360 in Japan and Europe, but come in a close second to Microsoft's offering in America.
The analysis puts Wii in a significantly distant third in all three territories.
In an interview with Gamasutra, Ed Barton explained: "The one thing I would admit is that Nintendo's strategy with the Wii is, at the moment, the great unknown," later saying: "The numbers that we're seeing now for the Nintendo Wii, they've come out of the blocks fantastically strongly - no one would deny that.
"However it's incredibly early in the hardware cycle. There's still another five or six years to play out on this one, and the first big battleground will be Christmas of 2007."
Barton cites exclusive third-party support as a crucial issue for Wii in the next gen war: "We've already seen things like Dragon Quest going exclusive on the DS, but if we see those kind of tipping points on the Wii, we'll have to amend our view, clearly. But at the moment, this is the view we're taking."
Barton points out Wii's cheaper development costs to be a huge advantage but, considering the console's limited technical ability, Barton speculates, "As to whether more cheaply developed games can continue to drive Wii sales momentum, when you put it against the kind of game pipelines we're seeing for the Xbox 360 and PS3, I would argue that the jury's still out."

A rumour coming straight out of the Official Xbox Magazine suggests that gamers will be able to download and rock out to the Halo Mjolnir Theme Song, which greets you when you fire up Halo 2.
The opening guitar in the theme was recorded by seven-string guitar virtuoso Steve Vai. We've put in a few calls to the right people but they couldn't help us either way.
But seeing as though a Spartan featured as an unlockable character in Dead or Alive 4, we reckon there's every chance of this happening. We officially want Guitar Hero II on Xbox 360 even more than ever.

The GRAW 2 multiplayer demo that was promised last week is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. Clocking in at around 300 MB, the demo allows up to 16 players on one map called Outpost. It's arguable that this demo is more important than the recently released campaign demo, as players will be spending most of their time in multiplayer. The demo is currently only available to gold members.
In a surprise twist, a much larger MLB 2K7 demo is available as well. Go forth, download, and enjoy.
