There's inhumane, and then there's despicable, but unfortunately for a 17-year old cancer patient receiving treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital, he knows all too well about both of them. A Vermont-based teenager had been suffered from osteosarcoma, bone cancer in the leg, and was "recovering from surgery" a few hundred miles away from home. Apparently, someone(s) the family actually knew broke into their home while they were obviously away, and proceeded to jack his Xbox 360 as well as "over $1,000 worth of games and DVDs" while they were at it. Local police suggest that they "do have some good leads involving current and former students at local high schools," and while none of the culprits have been apprehended just yet, folks have been more than generous in helping Jeff return to some state of normalcy by donating funds to help with family expenses, and one individual actually dropped off a new Xbox 360 console for a local radio station to deliver.

News/release from bryanlivingston:
the first NES emulator for the xbox 360 and XNA.
If you'd like to talk about this project my gamer tag is Lone Coder or you can email me at bryanlivingston@gmail.com
The project page for this project is at: http://code.google.com/p/xnasharpnes/
The latest release can be downloaded from: http://code.google.com/p/xnasharpnes/downloads/list
You can get the latest source from our subversion repository at: http://code.google.com/p/xnasharpnes/source
This is a conversion of SharpNES by Jonathan Turner. Converting it only took a couple of hours. http://jturner.tapetrade.net/sharpnes/index.html
It runs at 60% or 70% of normal speed on the 360, so it's playable but slow. There's probably some very easy optimizations and cleanups to be done still.
Right now there is no rom loading menu, so to switch roms you have to include the rom in the SharpNES360 project and set it to 'Copy to Output Directory', then edit the filename in Program.cs.
This requires a creators club account which runs $99 a year or $49 for four months. You'll also need Visual C# Studio Express which is free.
Buttons:
A = A B = X or B Start = Start Select = Back Up, Down, Left, Right = D-Pad Exit Emulator = RB (Right Shoulder Button)
What's Missing:
Second Controller Sound Saving or State Saving Rom Loading Menu
Supported Mappers:
Mappers 1 (mostly), 2, 3, 4 (mostly), 7 (partial), 9 (mostly), 10,
(partial), 22 (partial), 34, 64 (partial), 66

While speaking to investors, Lazard Capital says a price cut on Xbox 360 hardware is "unlikely in early 2007." However, they do believe a price reduction could come by the end of the year depending, of course, on the "competitive landscape." As a refresher, here's how Microsoft historically dropped the price of the original Xbox according to Wikipedia:
$299 (November 15, 2001, Launch Price)
$199 (May 15, 2002)
$179 (May 14, 2003)
$149 (March 29, 2004)
The first drop came only six months after the console's initial release. But remember, this was the time Microsoft had gotten into the console game so very aggressive pricing is understandable. The second drop came a full year later, followed by 10 months to bring us to the current MSRP of $150. So can we expect a first 360 price drop this year? Perhaps. That all depends on the "competitive landscape," namely what Sony and Nintendo have up their pricing sleeves.

Midway Games today unveiled its new Unreal Engine 3-powered FPS Hour of Victory, which mixes up the tired genre with Commandos-style character classes and multiple paths through missions.
The trio of soldiers at your disposal are a knife-wielding stealth user, an elite marksman with a trusty sniper rifle and an SAS weapons expert who's naturally hard as nails and has a British accent to boot.

The Dos emulator for the Xbox has been updated yet again:
Heres whats new:
Previous joystick-as-mouse fix was affecting USB mice. This
is fixed. USB mice should work like they did in v9.
It was still possible to change software filters via the In Game Options menu. Software Filters are disabled in DOSXBox due to memory constraints. This is now fixed. (Meaning that if you try and change the software filter via the In Game Options menu, nothing will happen.)
Pressing the BLACK button on the game selection menu now properly deletes all of the settings files associated with a game.
When a new stub-file is created (when it asks for a game name) the directory is rescanned so that the file will appear in the listing. The stub-files have an extension of ".DOS"

Next-gen auto enthusiasts are still waiting for the first car tuning simulation to get out of neutral. With the Gran Turismo series taking a pass on a full release until Gran Turismo 5, the first next-gen hyper-detailed racer is setting up to be Forza Motorsport 2, developed by Microsoft Game Studios.
Car racing photgraphers all deal with bad cases of vertigo.
Provided the game isn't beset with another delay, Forza Motorsport 2 will hit the streets of North America this May, says Microsoft. The game was originally scheduled for a November 2006 release.
"Our schedule right now has us hitting Xbox certification around the middle of April and going gold soon afterwards," says Forza community representative Che Chou. "We want them to put the game on shelves as soon and fast as they can humanly muster. So optimistic estimates have us at retail in the first half of May--obviously the sooner the better and that's our goal."
Microsoft also revealed the 12 tracks that will be featured in the game: Mugello Autodromo Internazionale, Suzuka Circuit, Sebring International Raceway, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Tsukuba Circuit, Road Atlanta, Silverstone Circuit, Nürburgring Nordschleife, Maple Valley Raceway, Sunset Peninsula Infield, New York Circuit, and Test Track.

Ahead of the public beta for Halo 3, the website I Love Bees has come back online. Could it be the beginning of an underground Halo 3 movement?
The I Love Bees website originally popped into our existence around the build up to the first images being released on Halo 2. It confused most people (us included) but the seriously hardcore Halo and Bungie fans out there went on to crack all sorts of codes the website threw at people whole viewed the site.
Well, it looks like it's back and it's as strange as we remember. Come Monday people will have figured that it's a countdown to something special or at least revealing something about Halo 3 in some form.
We're confused already by just looking at it. Does it make sense to you? Write your thoughts in the comments section below. This is going to be better than The Da Vinci Code!

According to the Netherlands' Xboxworld (via NeoGAF), Double Dragon is headed to Xbox Live Arcade in March, for 400 MS points. Like other aging classics before them, the Lee brothers and foes look to be receiving a visual touch-up. But as is often the case with real-life makeovers (and we're talkin' the scalpels, staples, and tubes kinda makeovers), the "enhanced" look just seems to always miss the mark. Never mind how jarringly flat the characters appear, just look at that "English Tear" sign, it's pristine! This is no longer a rumble through the ghetto, it's a prance around some sterilized ghost town infested with botox mutants. Can we get an "A-men!"?
We'd much prefer the time and resources be spent on tuning the online co-op, which continues to be a frustrating ordeal with each XBLA release.

It's now possible to install third-party hard drives into the Xbox 360, but there are some caveats. A hacker created a DOS-based program that, for now, only works on Western Digital BEVS hard drives. Also, the 20GB storage limit is still in place. It can only be surpassed if Microsoft officially releases a larger hard drive (so the 360 "knows" to look for a larger hard drive) or someone hacks the system's kernel. Since a larger hard drive has been rumored for a while now, waiting for the official Microsoft patch is likely your best bet.
So what's the point of all this if you can still only use 20GB hard drives, and can only use one series of hard drive? You can save money. Right now, the official 20GB Xbox 360 hard drive costs $100, while for around $60 you can find compatible 40GB hard drives (and for around $100, you can find 100GB hard drives). This is a good start and complements the other Xbox 360 hacks we've seen.

The recently revealed Ghostbusters game, unveiled by developer ZootFly in the form of several YouTube clips, has been shot down by Sony Pictures Entertainment, which owns the rights to the ghoul-hunting films. But you can help bring the game back from the dead, by signing up to an online petition campaigning for Sony to allow the game to go ahead.
At the request of Sony Pictures, ZootFly has removed all mention of Ghostbusters from its official website and taken down each of the videos that were uploaded to YouTube last week. ZootFly had hinted before that talks were in progress with Sony in order to gain permission for a Ghostbusters game, but from the looks of things we're not expecting the news to be good.
With just over 100 signatures at the time of writing, the petition doesn't look too healthy either - but you can help change that by signing up and getting everyone you know to do the same. There're no guarantees, of course, but if you don't try then you'll never know. You know?

Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices division has posted a US $289 million (EUR 223.6m) loss for the second quarter - and cut fiscal year estimates for Xbox 360 hardware.
The company now expects to ship a total of 12 million units by the end of June 2007, down from the original estimate of between 13 and 15 million.
"We are just being cautious about the second half," commented Microsoft CFO Chris Liddell to news agency Reuters. "There's a reasonable amount of inventory in the channel."
Despite the US $289 million loss, the Entertainment Devices division was responsible for US $2.63 billion (EUR 2.03) profit during the second quarter.
The Entertainment Devices division not only incorporates the Xbox 360 and software, but also the newly launched Zune media player, PC games, TV platform products, and mobile and embedded devices.
According to Microsoft, repair expenses and the extension of the 360 console warranty from nine months to a year in the US and Canada ate into the division's profitability.
Microsoft posted a revenue increase of US $1 billion (EUR 773m) for the division during the second quarter, with a US $1.3 billion (EUR 1bn) increase for the first half. Revenue for the Xbox and PC game departments grew 76 per cent and 82 per cent, respectively.
Results showed that the company has sold 10.4 million Xbox 360 consoles, as previously revealed by Robbie Bach at this year's CES. The second quarter saw 4.4 million units shipped ended December 31 2006, boosting the first half total to 5.4 million units.
The overall company profit was down to US $2.63 billion (EUR 2.03bn), a drop of 28 per cent, compared to US $3.65 billion (EUR 2.82) in the previous year.

Microsoft has reassured gamers worried about not finding a Halo 3 beta invitation in their copy of Crackdown.
"The initial shipment of Crackdown at retail will include access to the Halo 3 beta," a spokesperson wrote on Gamerscoreblog. "The 'initial shipment' is pretty huge, so there will be enough to go around."
And yes, that does include UK versions of the game.
It all reminds us a bit of Zone of the Enders 2, really: truckloads of gamers chomping at the bit to get their hands on one game so they can gain demo access to something else. Let's hope Real Time Worlds' effort can keep people satisfied as well as offering them a way in to another Master Chief runaround.

The Dos emulator for the Xbox has been updated, heres whats new:
Configuration data for games is now stored based on the path in which the game is located. This allows you to have separate configuration data for, say, E:GAMESKQ4SIERRA.EXE and E:GAMESKQ3SIERRA.EXE Earlier versions of DOSXBox worked this way, but somehow that code got overwritten, so I've had to make a new method. Basically this means that you're going to have to reconfigure your games.
If you assign "Text Browser" to an in-game button combination and use it to pull up a text file, then when you do so the file that is automatically loaded is the same as the game name you selected plus .TXT. For example, if you selected to play GAME.EXE and the file GAME.TXT is
located in the same directory as it, then GAME.TXT will be the file you see when you press the in-game button combination for the "Text Browser"
Can manually enter the game name during the configuration process. When you do this, DOSXBox will create a dummy file in the same directory as the file you selected that is named the same as the name you entered. This is the file that you'll need to launch for future runs.
IMGMOUNT command now works the same way as DOSBox-for-Windows.
New configuration option "Enable IPX/Network". You need to set this to "Yes" for the network to be available.
New function on the "In Game Options" menu : "Change CDRom". This will allow you to change the CD while playing a game.
Useful for multi-CD games.
Fixed joystick-as-mouse problem in Gabriel Knight
Fixed EMS initialization error with games like Blackthorne

Last Monday we put up a preview of Blue Dragon - make sure you check it out if you missed it. It's the hottest RPG for the 360 so far this year, a tale of adventure that blends the classic styling of pre-Final Fantasy VII role playing greats, with top-notch animation and art direction. We dig it.
But enough words. Today, we're blowing out three new movies that show off three big, big aspects of the game: exploration, boss battles and cutscenes. We take you through the world, towns and dungeons. We also fight just a very few of the game's incredible boss battles... and show off a sliver of its most exciting cinematic sequences. If you're completely spoiler-phobic, you might want to avoid that last video.
Hit the Movies tab up above to pick your poison. Remember, there are 85 more hot new screens where this one came from. Just hit the Images tab to get your hands on the rest - and don't forget to check them out in high resolution by clicking the "supersize" button below each individual image.

No one can argue that Gears of War hasn't been a massive success. The title has sold more than 3 million units worldwide--it was the third best-selling game of 2006 in the US and the 18th best-selling game in the UK. It also won GameSpot's Game of the Year award and overtook Halo 2 as the most popular game on Xbox Live.
Now the Xbox 360-exclusive title can boast another feather in its cap. The game was released on January 18 in Japan--a region where Western-developed shooters have historically not proved popular. However, Gears of War managed to break into the country's top 10 sales list, selling 33,212 copies in its first week and debuting in the charts at number seven, according to Media Create.
There were a total of eight new titles in the top 10 of the Japanese charts last week, with .hack//G.U. Vol. 3 making it to number one, having sold 136,790 copies since its release.

Another mistake my Sony? Oh dear
via majornelson
Until they fix it, you can see that clearly the main image used on Sony’s PSP Connect site to promote the Gran Turismo HD Preview was [s]stolen[/s] borrowed from the Xbox 360 title Project Gotham Racing 3. You can find the original PGR3 shot they used over from Bizarre Creations here.
ok, not a big deal, but still funny

Microsoft has snatched the publishing rights to From Software's Japanese ninja game, now known as Tenchu Z.
Reports from the US have confirmed that Xbox 360 is to get a ninja game before the what-is-bound-to-be-awesome Ninja Gaiden 2, in the form of From Software's Tenchu Senran (as it's called in Japan).
Whether it will be as good as the bound-to-be-awesome Ninja Gaiden 2 remains to be seen. Actually we'll call it now in favour of Ninja Gaiden 2, even though we haven't played it or seen a single screen. Yes, we're that confident in Tecmo's ability.

All UK copies of the upcoming 360 release Crackdown will contain a Halo 3 Beta invite, Microsoft has confirmed to CVG.
Crackdown is due for release on February 23 and each copy will give you details on how to jump on the Halo 3 Beta bandwagon. Obviously once Halo 3 ships or the Beta closes, invites would be redundant. To counter this, Microsoft will slap a sticker on every Crackdown box with info on the enclosed Beta.
That's that then. Crackdown could be on to sell a billion.

The recently released Ghostbusters movies from an early-in-development Xbox 360 game have been pulled off the web at the request of Sony Pictures Entertainment.
All references to the game have also bee removed from ZootFly's website. When trying to track down the videos, YouTube greets you with, "This video has been removed at the request of copyright owner Sony Pictures Entertainment because its content was used without permission." Whoops...
CVG contacted the developer and was told that the videos were indeed removed at the request of Sony Pictures and all references to the game have been removed from its website while negotiations over the rights continue behind closed doors. Fingers crossed Sony doesn't pull the plug, it was looking good.
