A new, slick looking kart racer has been revealed for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and Games for Windows Live, called Kart Attack.
Coming from Blimey Games - responsible for race sim series GTR - the racer promises full online modes, intelligent AI and a driving model that's "both easy to get to grips with and fun to play." No red shells, though.
Graphically, it looks incredible - especially for a XBLA/PSN title. With visuals like this you have to wonder how they're going to squeeze Kart Attack to fit Xbox Live's tight file restrictions.
We're still hoping for big rockets and crazy banana physics by the time the final game rolls around, but if they don't make it in at least we'll have the pretty trees to look at instead.
Read all about it on the Blimey Games website.

IBM confirms that its well on the way to delivering 32nm chips to its partners in late 2009...
IBM, in conjunction with its development partners (AMD, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd., Freescale, Infineon, and Samsung) today announced that it has achieved a new approach to assist in the production of 32nm processors.
The approach, which could theoretically find itself employed in cheaper and quieter Xbox 360's towards the end of 2009, marks an industry first by using high-k/metal gate (HKMG) process technology in 32nm processors.

Web forums were ablaze this morning because of a controversial report by Rich Greenfield of Pali Research, saying in 2008 Warner Bros. would cease support of HD DVD and become Blu-ray only. As a syndicated newspaper columnist I have contacts within the industry and found the whole thing suspicious and oddly timed. My PR contacts put me in touch with Jim Noonan, Warner Bros. Senior Vice President and General Manager, for clarification. I received a response almost immediately and his reply is as follows:
"Dear Mr. Lindich, We have made no decision to change our present policy which is to produce in both HD DVD and Blu-ray."

Microsoft Corporation today affirmed its place as global leader in downloadable high-definition gaming and entertainment content, as its Xbox LIVE Marketplace Video Store service launched in five new countries - Canada, France, Germany, Ireland and the United Kingdom. Following a highly successful launch in the United States last year, all Xbox 360 owners connected to the internet in the above countries can now download to rent both high definition and standard definition movies direct to their console using Xbox LIVE Marketplace Video Store.
Following last week's launch announcement where Microsoft revealed partnerships with Warner Bros and Europacorp in Europe to bring exciting films to rent on Xbox LIVE including 300, Zodiac, Harry Potter and The Good German, Xbox 360 owners can also expect to download to rent additional Warner Bros films such as Batman Forever, Batman Returns, Analyze That[1], by the end of the year. Cost per download for a catalogue film is from as little as 250 Microsoft Points (ERP £2) for Standard Definition movies and from 380 Microsoft Points (ERP £3.20) for High Definition movies.
If all these film titles that we've got lined up aren't enough to whet the appetites of Xbox consumers, then we've teamed up with Warner Bros to give eligible Xbox customers a special Christmas treat. From 00.01a.m. on Friday 28th December until 11.59 pm the same day (24hrs only), people will be able to download a mystery title in HD for 99p in the UK. Stay tuned for more information on this soon.

Microsoft has shot out a new batch of Lost Odyssey screenshots and is it just us, or did it look a lot better 12 months ago?
The Mistwalker RPG has just launched in Japan and is currently keeping Far Eastern 360 owners (both of them) busy with its stat counting and dungeon-crawling antics.
And apart from taking the mickey out of its stupidly-long loading times that's about all we can tell you about it, and reckon you should read this preview if you want some decent info.

Xbox Live Arcade will be alive with the roar of flying car engines and the steady rumble of subterranean thumping tomorrow when Sidhe Interactive's GripShift and Sierra Online's Arkadian Warriors announce themselves at 9am GMT.
The former is an already celebrated PSP and PSN release on Sony formats thanks to its blend of physics-twisting racing and puzzling, and arrives on Xbox 360 with a new deathmatch mode to complement its excellent single-player challenge mode.
Arkadian Warriors, meanwhile, is a hackandslash of randomly generated dungeons with co-operative multiplayer for two players over Xbox Live and a progression structure built around acquiring loot, mastering spells and gathering weapons.
Both games are set to go for 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.30) and will be accompanied by the usual 12 unlockable Achievements for 200 gamerpoints and demo versions to help you make your mind up.
If you want some help making your mind up about GripShift, of course, you could always read our GripShift PS3 review or last week's interview with Sidhe boss Mario Wynands. Look out for reviews very soon.

Ever wondered why you can only have 100 people on your Xbox Live Friends list? Probably not. You're not very popular, after all. But apparently there is a limit, and Xbox 360 group product manager Aaron Greenberg says it will be lifted "in the future".
Speaking to 1UP, Greenberg said that "it's something we definitely want to do and something we're looking at doing in the future, but it's been more technically complicated than anyone anticipated". For why, Aaron?
Interdependencies, he says. Apparently some original Xbox games "have friends lists hard coded in", among other things. However, he says, the majority of users don't have 30 friends, let alone 100.
Of course, nowadays you can check, thanks to a feature in the most recent Xbox 360 dashboard update that allows you to spy on your friends' friends lists. At least until they opt out of that by pretending to be a child and putting "OPERATION ORE" in their biography information.
How many friends do you have, Eurogamers?

The Halo 3 Heroic Map Pack has gone up on Xbox Live Marketplace, offering three brand new battlegrounds for 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.30).
The pack, unveiled last month, will be made available for free in spring 2008 ahead of another map pack's release.
The three maps included are Standoff, Rat's Nest and Foundry - a symmetrical valley map, an "indoor vehicular paradise" and "the ultimate Forge map" respectively, in Microsoft's view.
As reported yesterday, Halo 3 players will be able to download an update to introduce new playlists for the maps from today.
Bungie has also said that the new maps will not interfere with the game for people who do not download them - although the new maps can be included in playlists, they will be excluded if one player in the group does not have them.
For more on the maps, check out our Halo 3 screenshot gallery.

An update on the rumor that was posted yesterday.
Someone who is more than close enough to know such things has tipped us off over the weekend that, yes, Treyarch are indeed hard at work on Call of Duty 5. And that, yes, the series is heading back to World War II. That's the stuff we'd heard already. What we didn't know is that, according to this tipster, the game's set in the under-utilized Pacific theater, something only one major WWII shooter - the awful Medal of Honour: Pacific Assault - has tried before. While (if true) the move back to well-worn WWII is mostly disappointing, if this game can branch out and explore some of the less "popular" aspects of the conflict (China, Burma, New Guinea), it might not be so bad.

Turn 10's previously announced download content has hit Xbox Live, giving virtual racers a new course and a selection of sweet new motors to drive.
The Road America Track Pack contains one new course (called Road America, funnily enough), based on the real course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, where Champ Car and American Le Mans series races apparently take place. It's 100 MS Points (85p) for that.
The December car pack will hook you up with a bunch of new super cars, including the R8 Audi Sport Quattro, BMW Motorsport M3 E30, Ferrari 599 GTB, Fiorano Ferrari FXX, Koenigsegg CCGT, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Pontiac Trans Am SD-455, Porsche 911 GT1 (996) and the rubbish Renault 5 Turbo Renault Clio Renaultsport 197. We're guessing that last one is made by Renault - just a guess.
That lot will cost you 400 MS Points (roughly £3.40), but if you're a cheap skate and like playing with rubbish cars in games where you could be driving Ferraris, then you can grab the Renault 5 Turbo for free in a separate Renault Clio 197 pack.

Bungie is revamping Halo 3 playlists to coincide with the release of the Heroic Map Pack download content tomorrow.
In its latest update the developer explains, "This playlist is going to include a playlist specifically for the new Heroic DLC maps (so that early adopters can get their fix in), as well as incorporating those maps into the general playlists".
In continues, "In addition, we're reasonably sure that variety updates to almost all of the playlists will be included. This includes some long requested BR Start variants, wider map selection in the Ranked playlists, and a couple of map variants that we're going to try in BTB to start with.
"We're a little hamstrung on this first update because the studio resources are giving priority to finishing and testing the Heroic DLC maps, but we do have more in mind for December."
What that "more in mind" equates to is a second update due December 18 that'll include the Team Hardcore playlist. Further details on this are to be released in due course but Bungie has said it's "trying to stay true to Halo 2's THC playlist, which means nothing crazy, but a solid variety."
"In addition," the dev adds, "the current plan includes an overhaul for Team Objective. This playlist will henceforth be focused on CTF (both One Flag and Multi Flag variants, as has been frequently requested) and Assault (One Bomb, Multi Bomb, and Neutral Bomb) variants. VIP is out, until we have some time to bang on it and get something we're happy with."
It goes on the explain that it's introducing Team Control playlist - "which is based on zone control gametypes like Territories, Land Grab, and a little bit of Team King" - and that early in the New Year a Ranked BTB (Big Team Battle) playlist will be introduced.

In a bid to encourage the gaming culture in India, Xbox 360 has launched a first-of-its-kind "Xbox Entertainment Lounge" within the 'Mobile Store' at Walkeshwar in Mumbai.
The Mobile Store, which is an Essar initiative in telecom retail, stands for all that is young and is fun. The launch of the first ever Xbox Lounge within this store is a sure step towards making it a popular youth hangout.
As it is, the Mobile Store offers a wide choice of mobile phones, mobile connections and recharges, mobile repairs, mobile accessories, value adds, plus music and gaming devices.
And, the Xbox Entertainment Lounge promises a perfect setting for family and friends to hang out and spend time together. Customers can even buy their favorirte game and/or console after trying their hands at it.
Rajiv Agarwal, chief executive officer and director of the Mobile Store, said the complete entertainment provided by Xbox 360 will add to the experience of their valued customers.
Meanwhile, Mohit Anand, country manager (Entertainment Devices Division) of Microsoft India, said they are steadfast in popularizing the gaming genre in India. He said the Xbox Lounge concept is the next step to make gaming as an entertainment option accessible to a broader set of audiences.
Recently, Microsoft held the Xbox 360 Gamer's Night in various cities, including Mumbai. The Xbox Entertainment Lounge initiative is intended to take-up where the Gamer's Night left-off -- as one more step towards building a gaming community in India.

Firstly, this article does not mention that is mentioned franchise is Call of Duty, so don't go ballisitic.
Secondly, Treyarch is the developer
And Finally, I really don't mind WW2 games, if they can put a new angle at it like Medal of Honor Airborne, they can make a really kick ass game!
http://kotaku.com/gaming/rumor/treya...wii-331645.php
The gang at UK pub Gamer picked up on a job listing from Call of Duty 3 developer Treyarch that might point to the series returning to its World War II roots. The posting at Activision's career opportunities page is looking for a level builder to work on an "industry leading First-Person Shooter action war franchise" with serious experience. Later in the job description, Treyarch writes "if you're a fan of World War 2 shooters, then even better!"
Quite the leap, no? While we're positive that Call of Duty 5 is coming, we aren't sure whether Infinity Ward or Treyarch or another developer altogether will be holding the reigns.
From: Kotaku
Edit: If anyone here didn't like the third game, what was your reason? I didn't find anything wrong with it, besides it was the first COD game not to feature the Soviet Union.
Edit 2: Their's nothing wrong with them going back to WW2 anyway, mabye they don't want to be labeled another recruitment tool (I know they added fake elemtns to the story, but still), and other modern shooters like GRAW represent modern warfare a bit better when they go into the Soilder of the Future program, although their storylines are usally fake aswell.

A team of class action attorneys has launched an investigation into complaints that Halo 3 was falsely marketed as a high definition product, but does not actually render native high definition resolutions. These complaints are that, although Halo 3 was advertised as having a 720p resolution (720 pixels), it natively renders at 640p (640 pixels) and is simply scaled up to 720p. Read more about it here. If you purchased the Halo 3 game, you may be entitled to recover money.

A new release of ixtreme firmware, for all versions of drive (except v78/79 hitachi, which maximus will release shortly)..
Features
(v1.4) Disc jitter fix
Note: Everyone is wondering why people were getting banned a few weeks back. Here is a short summary of our speculation:
There are specific timers within the challenge/response protocol that may be checked by MS to determine as criteria for banning. We believe they are measuring one or more to find discrepancies. While a lot of this is speculation, and a lot of data is inaccurate as far as replication due to different mechanics, there may be specific timers that can be easily read. One that we are focusing on has to do with the degree's of disc rotation, which will generate a sum (0,90,180,270) and embed that data within the Security Sector file. Now, we recently have noticed a change within games in regards to that Challenge/Response timer.
We recently found out that new games ripped with kreon drives will give back a degree, that in combination with ixtreme jitter, will produce a 360 degree value. This would be a unacceptable range (should only be 0-359). This is a detectable and possibly a criteria for the recent ban waves. Also, this would explain why some users got banned playing the same games that others played, and did not get banned. The point of jitter is to randomly give back proper values. With that in mind, a random jitter value from a kreon drive, with a random jitter from a ixtreme drive will rarely give back a 360 degree value. This new ixtreme will wrap that value to ensure that no 360 degree value can be submitted.
Now, a note of recommendation, due to statistical findings. We have spent days ripping *thousands* of security sector's with various drive/software combinations and have come to the following:
The most accurate/valid SS replication is done with a samsung drive using Schtrom 360 xtract or XBC. So far, we have seen only a very small percentage of 6701 rips in comparison to kreon. Now, given that, i think it is important to inform that this value was previously normal with older games. It may or may not be normal with *every* new game, but with some so far.
So, if you are planning on backing up your purchased games, please try to use samsung with schtrom 360 xtract or XBC for the most reliable replica possible!!!! This *could* mean the difference from being banned on xbox live, or not.
Now, as always, remember that you are modifying your console *at your own risk*. If you make a backup of your game and play it on xbox live, you will always run a risk of getting your console banned.
This release also comes with firmtool 1.2, here is the changelog:
- Added support for Samsung ms19
- Added prompt for Samsung firmware to copy version strings.
This will allow for those who want their ms25,ms21,or ms19 to report as a ms28.
- Added Xtreme/iXtreme version detection in the hacked source
- Added extra check of BenQ key range for odd BenQ firmware revisions
- Rewrote firmware and version detection. Works properly with all spoofed firmware.
- Added spoofed firmware detection
